ITunes taking forever to burn a CD

I recorded a CD yesterday without any problem.
today I have tried to burn another one and iTunes is taking forever, stuck at the stage of "finishing".
The only thing i have done differently wat that i ticked the box to record CD track names today.
iTunes 10.6.3
Running OS 10.5.8 on a G4 Power PC.
Any help welcome,
C. W.

Thanks Cali.
I eventually lost patience, tried to stop burning the CD, but that hung too.
Force quit iTunes, tried to restart the computer, failed, forced a shut down, restarted, ran disc utility.
The CD after all that remained blank, and I was able to record onto it later, though I had meantime made myself a CD on another computer.
Just to play safe I did not this time tick the check box for CD track names, and I recorded it slowly (8x).
Hey ho.

  • IPad and iTunes taking forever to sync out of the blue

My iPad synced in 'normal' time, just under 10 minutes, yesterday. Today, the syncing is taking forever! Appears that a completely new backup was done, and now it barely moves. I did not download anything to iPad between these syncs. I used it, charged it, and shut it down and restarted it. Any suggestions?

    HI...
In the iTunes window with the Summary tab selected, check the bottom of that window to make sure there's enough free space available.
If there's enough space, check out the information here for managing content manually.

  • ITunes taking forever to load up

    Hi
Suddenly my iTunes is taking forever to load up. When I click the icon it bounces as usual, and then the little black triangle appears to show that it is active but there is no sign of iTunes it self. About 20-25 seconds later it finally appears. I recently added about 600 news songs to it bringing my total to about 3000 is it this that is slowing it down?
Any ideas anyone? It's not desparate but pretty irritating.
    Thanks!
    Jim

That's about how long iTunes starts up for me but I have over 42,000 items. I definately do not expect the program to open up instantly. The amount of RAM and virtual memory you have available will also determine how fast the application opens and functions. I recently freed up a bunch of space on my start-up disk and that helped things quit a bit.

  • MOV to Blu-ray Taking forever to burn

    Hello - I am currently on FCP7.
    I am editing 1920x1080 footage.
    Exporting to MOV
Dropping the MOV to Toast 10
For some reason. Toast 10 is taking almost 24 hours to burn a 2 hour blu-ray.
I was wondering what method are you guys using to create a blu-ray disc.
    Thanks for your help.

Some forms of HD can require a lot of time to encode, but it's hard to say in this case...
MOV (or mov) is a generic tag used with most QuickTime codecs, so it is as specific as saying "clip."  Before anyone is going to be able to help you, you need to post some specifics.  Open your MOV in QuickTime player and Get Info (⌘+i) and it will give you all the gory details.
My guess is that Toast is having to transcode your output codec to one that is supported for Blu-ray before it can begin the actual burn. If your footer info is correct, the problem is aggrevated by a slow machine and perhaps a slow hard drive.
    good luck

  • Itunes taking forever to restore my Ipad

trying to restore my Ipad 2 It almost completes then just stalls

I assume that you trying to restore with iTunes on you computer. You may have a corrupt backup that is causing the restore process to stall. You can delete the backup and try again. You can move the backup to another location on your hard drive if you do not want to delete it and then try to restore.
To delete the backup, launch iTunes on your computer and at the top to to File>Preferences>Devices and find that backup and highlight it. Then click on delete backup.
If you want to move the backup to another place on your computer you can find it here. This is copied from this site.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

    Determine Gapless Playback Information...
I just did a fresh reinstall of my whole computer and put windows 7 on it. And after I downloaded the new iTunes, I uploaded all my music... And then when it says "Determine Gapless Playback Information" it freezes the window and is considered "Not Responding" by Task Manager. I left it alone for two days hoping that would be enough time, but it was still on the same song... Any tips?

  • ITune taking forever to Open

Until recently, iTunes opened quickly when I double clicked the icon on the Menu Bar. Now, when I double click iTunes on the Menu Bar I'm now getting a box saying "Loading iTunes Library" and then the Watch symbol.....after a fairly long time, iTunes opens up. What the heck did I do to cause this to happen (must be human error)?
    Thanks

    Have many playlists?
Also, you should update to 10.6.3.

  • Open/Save Panels taking *forever* to open

    Hi all
The last few months, the open and save panels have been taking forever to open on my mac (by forever, I mean I will have to sit and watch the spinning beach-ball for at least a minute while the computer thinks about it). It normally (well, always) happens the first time any app has to open them, but then they open fine after that. (until the next application wants to open one).
Is this a global problem with the recent builds of 10.4? Or is it my computer being weird?
    Adam

    Ah yes.
I seem to remember back in the 10.3 days there was a similar problem with certain applications (actually, I think it was iTunes taking forever to open if you had the iDisk mounted). Anyhow, I shall simply have to change how I store my files (i.e. not on the iDisk by default).
    Thanks for the suggestions!

  • ITunes 10 is taking my money!  And taking forever!

I've updated to iTunes 10, now when I try to purchase a song, it never actually does it, but it still takes the money off of my account! It is also taking forever to do anything...what do I do???

You are experiencing a problem many others have reported.  Basically, during the matching process, if there is a "clean" version of an "explicit" song, Apple is matching to the "clean" one.  The explicit track is still on your computer unless you've removed it.
As for who would want a "clean" version of anything, only people who have purchased it could tell you why.  Consider the legal implications, however, if someone who wanted "clean" versions suddenly found all their music had gone, well, nasty!
Apple's legal department may have forced engineering to put some measures in place to keep that from happening.  If they did, they're working a little too well.  Hopefully with time Apple will get it straightened out.

  • ITunes all of a sudden taking forever to d/l podcasts

As of yesterday iTunes is taking FOREVER to download podcasts. I mean a podcast that usually takes about 40 seconds to download is now taking over an hour. Anyone else having this problem?
I've done everything I could think to do. I deleted podcasts (I had lots on there I hadn't deleted). I updated to the newest iTunes version (no improvement). I checked my broadband speed (3072.3 kbps). I'm not having speed problems with any other application (e.g., Mozilla, Outlook. Real Player).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    tpsbmam,
I try not to assume anything. That is part of why I asked what kind of connection you are using, despite the speed results posted because speedtests, especially if they are run one after another can be inaccurate. Some ISPs cache data for example. In addition browser caching can contribute to them being inaccurate. I specifically sent you to a large Podcast to try and get sustained download information.
A 3079 kbps connection should take approx 45 minutes for the Podcast I mentioned to download (3.0 Mbps cable) using a couple of different online calculators, assuming there is no other internet traffic on the connection (browser windows, email downloads, instant messaging, etc). In addition some ISPs prioritize traffic, or limit bandwidth for large downloads. For example the connection I use at home is 6.0 Mbps, but used to throttle any download over 200 MB.
The podcast I referenced is two parts 1.5 hours of audio only, and 1.5 hours of the same thing with video. The video portion itself almost 1 GB. It is not directly comparable to other audio only 3 hour podcasts. A typical audio podcast that is 1.5 hours will be under 100 MB (or approx 1/10 GB).
So far this looks like an issue with the source you are downloading from with your regular podcasts since you can download a large podcast, albeit with what appears bandwidth throttling at one end or the other.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • ITunes 8 taking FOREVER ( 12 hours) to process artwork thumbnails

Anybody else seeing this? Its taking forever to process the artwork thumbnails. It looks like its going out on our shared drive and processing all the media on all the computers on the network (~300GB). Or at least those that are shared. I can't tell for sure because the spinning color wheel of death won't pause so I can see what is going on.
Next question is will each of the computers in the house go through the same painful process with the shared media when upgraded to iTunes 8?
What an idiot I was. 8(

Same problem here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1701877&tstart=0). What worked for me, finally, was to quickly hit Stop before the spinning ball appeared and I then checked off for this never to happen automatically in the subsequent dialogue window. It seems to get hung with albums that start with S.

  • Qosmio X500-128, taking forever to boot also Toshiba service station error

    Hi
My toshiba qosmio x500-128 is taking forever to boot up these days, iver rolled back the system using system restore, ive stopped any unessential startup services that i know are not req at startup but the system still takes forever to boot, ive also updated to the latest BIOS etc
Another thing is that everytime i login i get the error that Toshiba Service station has stopped working...
any help would be greatly appreciated

So if I am to do a system reformat. I am no novice with computers but by no means completely efficient at everything. What is the "best-practice" when doing a system reformat?
Burn a reformat disc from the system utilities?
Is there a way to reformat that would install the latest drivers/BIOS?
I am going to have a headache with the stuff on my HDD, eg. iTunes, photos, university work don't think I have enough space on my extra HDD's to store it all then to re-transfer it all back... :(
Lets just say I'm not looking forward to doing it, and I am the one everyone goes to to do these sort of things for, I don't mind if I mess up their computers that much but this laptop is my baby :D

  • ITunes takes forever to open!!

When I open iTunes in my Dock, it takes at least five minutes to open. I timed it tonight. This is a fairly recent problem, maybe for the last month or so. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this could be because I have a LOT of iPhone Applications in iTunes now?
I'm also having problems with other apps on my Mac, such as iPhoto running very slow, but only iTunes takes forever to open. iPhoto opens quickly, freezes a lot while using it, and takes several minutes to close, probably due to having over 20,000 photos in it.
So I'm thinking the iTunes problem probably isn't related to the iPhoto problems.
Also, I just did an "Archive and Install" with the Leopard OS at the advice of an Apple store Genius, but it didn't fix or change anything. In fact, the Install took six hours, which I believe is longer than normal.
Does anyone know if a large amount of App store apps in iTunes can affect how long it takes to open?
Or should I be asking this question at the iPhone forum?
    Thanks in advance, Deb

Hello back, and thank you both for responding. I had no idea there was two separate iTunes forums. I guess I'll go post to the right one.
I'm the only Mac user in a house of PC users, so my three guys are no help to me. Well, one of them has a Macbook, but he uses his desktop PC the most. Anyway...
I have 50 Gigs left on my hard drive and that's only because I had to do two "Archive and Installs" on my iMac last week. That left me with over 20 gigs in two "Previous System Folders". I'm going to delete them eventually to get that space back, but my problems were happening before when I had almost 75 gigs, and are still happening now. Nothing has changed.
My iTunes has maybe 10 gigs of stuff total, with most of it music, then maybe iPhone applications (probably 2 or 3 gigs), but only one short 45 minute video, and a couple of podcasts. Nothing else. I'm a middle aged mom, so I'm not much into iTunes except for my iPhone stuff.
So, I'm confused by iTunes reluctance to open, but will go post on the Mac iTunes forum.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to me!
    Greatly appreciated... Deb

  • My ipod touch is takeing forever to update to IOS 5.01

i have an ipod touch and its a 4 gen and i have a new computer and it realy fast but my ipod update is takeing forever to update i have done everything i even changed some internet setting it still takes forever please help me. ,Thank you

If your iPod does not have camera it is a 3G iPod. Those can only go to 5.1.1. Its hardware does not support a higher version.
As other have said, a 4G (first one to have cameras) can only go to 6.1.6
A 5G can go to the current 7.1.2
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
