ITunes tells me my iPad is synced to a different library. It's not.

We bought a new iPad Air and immediately synced it to our iTunes library, hand choosing 3000 songs. I went back later to add some books, and iTunes tells me that the device is synced to a different library (it's not, same library) and that to sync books I have to erase all data and start over to make it compatible with this library. It's not a crisis, and I can do it, but to go back and choose the music all over again is time consuming. And I have no idea why it is not recognizing this device as being synced to this iTunes.
Possible relevant info: We have two users and two iTunes, but only use one for syncing devices. On my other side I have another Apple ID for iCloud, but have not used it for this iPad. We have several devices synced to this iTunes (2 ipads, ipod, iPhone). All updates are in place.
Any ideas why this happened and if there is a fix other than erasing all data?
Thanks!

I have a similar problem - transferred from an older iPad to a newer one.
Once over the hurdle of the backup being encrypted with a password that was never set, the new iPad thinks it is synced with a library on another computer that will not be up to date (it was an old backup made on the original device).
Some of the backup information has not fully restored the new iPad to the same state as the old one - if I connect and sync to the computer with the older library, will this;
a) erase any data - i.e. should I not automatically sync?
b) will it recover the missing data - or is it 'lost'?
c) will it always require synching to this library - I intend for the device to be synched with another PC because it is faster and more convenient - this is the one where the backup and restore has been carried out rather than waiting for an iCloud sync.
The old iPad has already been reset - will this process have to be completed from scratch again? i.e. is there a way of divorcing the old iPad from it's old library then backing up and getting a full transfer.

  • My computer crashed and was rebuilt. I tried to sync the music from ipad back to my computer but I keep getting a message that says the content on my ipad will be erased. It also says the ipad was synced to a different library.

My computer crashed and was rebuilt. I tried to sync the music from my ipad to my computer but get a message that says the content on my ipad will be erased and is synced to a different library. All the music purchased from itunes synced but I need to get the music that was not purchased on itunes. How do I do this?

You don't.  the ipad is not a backup/storage device.  it simply mirrors the selected content of your computer.  The sync is one way - computer to ipad.  The only exception is itunes purchases.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your computer?
    If so, not good.
You may be able to purchase  a third party program, not supported by Apple, to get the other music.

  • When I connect my ipod to my computer, Itunes tells me the ipod is synced to another account.  I only have one account.  My only account is blank now.  I'm not sure what is going on but I don't want to plug in my iphone or ipad now.

I need help to sync my ipod.  When connected to my computer, itunes tells me it is synced to another account.  I only have one account.  I had tons of stuff stored on itunes, now my itunes account is blank.  I fear connecting my iphone or ipad now.  I would like to use my itunes to download movies and shows to my ipad2' but I'm not sure I want to risk it.  I have signed onto my husband's computer and tried to assess my itunes account but get the same result!  Help!

" I had tons of stuff stored on itunes, now my itunes account is blank."
    How did this happen?
Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.
You can sync iphone/ipad to one and only one itunes library at a time. Syncing to another will indeed erase the iphone.

  • HT1386 I turn on itunes, plug in my ipad - but what appears is my list of songs, not the screen witht he 'devices' option that is shown in the instructions.  What do I do to get that screen?

I am having a problem getting music from my computer to my ipad, though it works the other way.
I can't get the set up screen.  I turn on itunes, plug in the ipad, and my music list comes up --- not the screen with 'devices' that the instructions say will come up.  How can I get to that screen?

With iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC. When the iPad is plugged in it should then appear on that left-hand sidebar under 'Devices' so that you can select it, and then use the tabs on the right-hand side of the screen to select what to sync to it.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

You don't have a backup, not because your hard drive crashed but because you chose not to have a backup.
And yes, you have to erase and sync.

  • Syncing ratings from an iPod synced to a different library?

So here's my problem... As of earlier this morning I lost all the data on my hard drive. Among that was my iTunes Library file, not the music which was on my external. The problem is all my ratings weren't stored with the tracks themselves, which means now all my songs have no ratings. This is a problem as the majority of my playlists require ratings in order to work.
They're the exact same song files as before, but now my computer is identified as a different machine and thus it wants to erase my iPod before it syncs. Needless to say, I do not want this. And there are too many songs to go through and re-rate them all.
Is there some way I can fool my iPod into syncing over my playlists and ratings? Or some way I can automate the rank syncing with something other than iTunes?

There are quite a few 3rd party freeware/shareware tools you can use to recover music from your iPod. There should be one that allows you to keep your ratings intact. Search around http://www.versiontracker.com/

  • ITunes won't backup iPad when syncing

I've had the iPad since May. Soon after, when syncing, the back-up phase seemed to stop progressing. iTunes hadn't frozen - it looks like its doing something... but the green bar stops moving.
When I click the little (X) on the itunes display, it then skips the backup phase and continues to sync. This is how I've been doing it for a while.
With iOS 3.2.1 and a backup is mandatory, once again it sits... no ipad upgrade for me.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it easy to correct?

Yesterday I put the iPad in to backup immediately. 5hrs later i got an error message after the bar had got 50% along... "itunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later.
This article clued me in: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2690
I have Endpoint Protection for a clients network I VPN into. I uninstalled the checkpoint programs and voila!, backup took about 15min and then another 10min to upgrade to 3.2.1
I wouldn't say this issue is wrapped up... next time I connect to this VPN the Endpoint Protection will re-install itself, which I will have to uninstall to backup and sync the ipad... and round n round it goes.

  • I just bought a new computer, now itunes tells me I can only sync with one computer.  It only offers me the choice to erase and sync.  I do not want to erase my ipod, I just want my music on the new computer.  Can't I just transfer the songs from the ipod

I just bought a new computer.  Itunes only offers me the option of erase and sync, as I can only have it sync'd with one computer.  I want to move my music to this computer from my ipod.  Is this possible, or do I have to go back to my cds and upload everything from there?  I just want to be able to move my music from my ipod to the new computer.

You need to transfer your iTunes Library from the old computer to the new one - then you can carry on syncing as normal. You can't move non-purchased music from an iPod to iTunes using iTunes. For purchased music, choose iTunes > File > Transfer purchases...
