  • I have downloaded itunes, but whenever I try to play a song that I have already purchased I get a message that tells me that my computer isn't authorized. How do I authorize it? This is a new computer.

I have an itunes account with a lot of songs. I just bought a new computer, and whenever I try to play a song that I already paid for it tells me that my computer is not authorized. How do I authorize it? I had a new computer before and never had any problems playing the songs. Please can anyone tell me how to authorize my computer?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

What do you mean by 'registered it on iTunes' ? You've authorised your account on your Mac's iTunes via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option ? And you've copied your library onto the Mac ?

  • ITunes is telling me my computer isn't authorized anymore.

iTunes is telling me my computer isn't authorized to play purchased songs anymore. I tried to go in and re-authorize my computer, but I just get the following error:
+We could not complete your iTunes request. An unknown error occurred (-42408)+
I checked and my software is up to date. Any idea whats going on?

Sorry, I don't have a response. I just wanted to say that I have the exact same problem. It started about a week ago and a number of songs that I've purchased have been deleted from my ipod when I sync.
    It's very frustrating.

  • How to play music that my computer isn't authorized to play?

A couple years back, I had an account (using my dad's credit card/email) on the Itunes store on which I bought a couple songs. I now want to listen to those songs, but iTunes is telling me that my computer isn't authorized to play it. I don't remember the password and my dad has deleted that email account since that time so I can't authorize it...anything I can do?

    Download VLC player http://vlc-media-player.en.softonic.com/mac...
or if youre lucky enough to have a program such as compressor, wondershare, or anything that converts files. convert it from apples itunes m4a to MP3 or anything else. that way you can use it on your itunes or anyone else's without having to authorize.

Think you got to reboot or relaunch iTunes after the Authorization.

You can transfer all the iTunes purchased music from the iPod Touch to your new computer.
From iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod has your purchased content from the iTunes Store, you can transfer the content to a computer that is authorized for your Apple ID.
Note: This option only works for content you purchased from the iTunes Store (as opposed to content from other sources, such as CDs you may have imported). For content you did not purchase from the iTunes Store, synchronization occurs in one direction only. This means your content can be copied from a computer to your iOS device, but cannot be copied from your device to a computer.
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
In the dialog that appears, the Apple ID button is selected by default. If you have an AOL account, select AOL.
Enter your Apple ID or AOL account and password. Then, click the Authorize button.
Connect your device your computer. If it is synced with another iTunes library, the following may appear:
If this alert appears, click Transfer Purchases.
If you were not offered the option to transfer purchases:
After connecting your device to the computer, its icon appears in iTunes. Click the icon.
From the File menu, choose "Transfer Purchases from 'Your device name.'"

My macbook pro is already authorized, but a purchased song from iTunes keeps stating that my computer is not authorized to play it. I enter my apple ID and password, upon which a window confirms that my computer is already authorized. Yet the song still won't play and continues to state that my computer is not authorized.

If you live in a country in which you are allowed to re-download purchased music delete the track from the library and the HDD and re-download it.

  • Some of my songs in iTunes show up but they won't play. I get the message that my computer isn't authorized to play them when I only have one computer.

I recently did the update for iTunes and after I did that I got the error message: MSVCR80.dll file not found.  I followed the suggestions from someone in this community to fix it and now some of my songs aren't playing.  And they are the ones that I purchased from iTunes not CDs that I have and ripped to my iTunes library. I can see the songs listed in my iTunes library as well as on my iPod but yet they won't play.  On my computer I get the message that this computer is unauthorized to play them and to authorize it.  I only have one computer, so I have no idea why I'm getting this message.  And does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get all of the iTunes songs to play again?

    Hello Angel82co,
It sounds like you have some songs in your library that are not playing, and when you try to play them you are being told the computer is not authorized to play them. I would start by verifying that your computer is still authorized, and take note of the Apple ID that you sign in with:
To authorize a computer, follow these steps:
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You may need to show the menu bar to see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.
If your Apple ID uses an expired MobileMe account, you can still authorize your computer.
From: iTunes Store: Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
If the issue persists, next I would use the following article to double check that these songs were purchased under the same Apple ID you used to authorize the computer:
Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1920
    Open iTunes
Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
    Choose File > Get Info.
    Click the Summary tab.
The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
If it is the same Apple ID then I would next delete the song, and re download it from your purchased history, with this article named:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • ITunes 8.1 says my computer isn't authorized anymore

Ever since the update, iTunes won't let me play my non-iTunes Plus songs and says this machine isn't authorized. It brings up that window to enter your info in to authorize it, but when I do it brings up this message:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. A required iTunes component is not installed. (-42401)
Something did mess up near the end of the 8.1 install, but I figured it just left me with the old version, but when I tried opening again, the new user terms came up and so I guess it did install. I tried to re-install but there was an error so it didn't work. Anyone else experiencing this? What should I do?

I just created a playlist yesterday with one of my audible books in it and itunes told me I couldn't synch that playlist with my shuffle. I didn't sweat it because this was my 1G shuffle and I have the book on my nano, but now today there isn't even an icon in the Library for Audiobooks and when I use search in iTunes it can't find any books, but they're all in my itunes folder. What gives? I'm not feeling courageous enough to re-install based on other people's results (ala, crashing).

  • ITunes suddenly told me that my computer isn't authorized to play my purchases, but it is!

When I tried to sync my iPod the other day, iTunes suddenly decided my computer was no longer authorized to play my purchases.  Then when I authorized it, it said it was already authorized.  After clicking "okay" it took me back to the original message (the "this computer is no longer authorized" one).  It just goes round and round in circles.  I've tried several of the suggestions on here, but nothing seems to work.  Any ideas??
