Thanks for the reply. I'm on an iMac running OSX 10.8.5 -- but I don't think that iTunes was ever removed from the Applications folder … and so I'm not clear on whether I should pull it out of the folder and then transfer it back in. Essentially within iTunes I am prompted to download the upgrade, but when I accept it kicks me over to my Software Updates menu on the iMac, where I am told "No updates available."

I am experiencing the exact same issue during the installtion process for iTunes 10.5.

I was able to uninstall and reinstall QuickTime 7.7.1. During the reinstalltion process I received the same message (There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

You have a mid 2007 iMac. All Intel Macs are 64 bit architecture.
If you upgrade your OS X version and upgrade your RAM, you can certainly run Adobe CC apps.
How well it would run those apps would be the variable.
Your iMac model can be upgraded all the way to OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

If you have a slow connection speed, update will not download.
Are you using broadband and are you close to the modem?

The update is not available via software updates. However, if you are doing multiple updates, you can bypass the Windows Store.

Since upgrading to Leopard, can't check for software updates or iTunes stor

since upgrading to Leopard, i can't get software upgrades. I get error messages "software update can't connect to the update server. make sure you're connected to the internet, then try again. software update can't check for updates because of a network problem." My network connections are fine.
Also get "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. the network connection was refused. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." when I try to go to itunes store. Again, my network connections are fine.
Any ideas?

the solution is to use Little Snitch Configuration.app, which monitors online activity and gives option to allow/deny access of a given program.

I have a macbook pro and have just updated my itunes to the 10.5, it has been sitting on the 'software update' box for 2 and a half hours and only has about 3mm of space left that is not blue. Is it normal to take this long downloading this update? Help!

I have been sitting looking at the blue line almost finished for over 2 hours. It says Writing files... underneath and Installing 11 items above the blue box. What should i do? You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

I am trying to install Itunes again but it wont let me. So i was uninstalling all the apple and itunes programs to start over, i have everything uninstalled exept Apple Software Update. HELP PLEASE

I have tried resetting, turning on and off, making date and time right etc. the first day we got the iPod touch the app store worked but not since.

So it WILL run on 10.5, 10.6, and Lion which is 10.7.
That is why is shows up under "software update" on 10.6 computers.
The problem is with the installer on some computers.
I went to an Apple Store and a Genius had to us the "root" administrator account to install iTunes 10.4. It is a hidden administrator account.
So go to an Apple store or call Apple Care if you are still under warranty.

Interesting. Sometimes updates just don't show up for folks in SU, even though their machine fits all the requirements, and other people with the same kit can see the update in SU. (Sort of a "patchy coverage thing" ... I don't know the cause, I just try to get folks up to date using the .dmgs instead.)
... but in your case, it's plausible that iTunes 10.7.0.21 isn't showing up for you because the specs for it say it requires OS X 10.6.8 or higher.
If you update your Snow Leopard from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8, does iTunes 10.7.0.21 show up as an available update for you?
