ITunes Temp Files and previous libraries

In ~Home/Music/iTunes folder are many Temp Files, (some text, and some iTunes database files), each about 1.2 MB. I also note a file "iTunes Music Library.xml, a text document 2.3 MB, and a folder "Previous iTunes Libraries" containing "iTunes 4 Music Library" and iTunes Music Library (Old). I am using iTunes 6.0.1. Can I safely delete these Temp Files and Old Libraries?

You could always move them from where they are to the desktop, and then launch iTunes.
If everything seems ok then they aren't needed.
Or is that too simple? No, it's a Mac

Music and Video on Nas in folders but how do i set up itunes on multiple computers to see and use these files and create libraries?
So i have had a itunes set up on my old PC, bought a NAS and copied the folders over to the NAS, i did this incorrectly and so then even when i told the old PC to use that folder it saw all the songs but wasnt able to play the songs as it was looking in the incorrect place.
So now i want my Mac as well as my PC and others to all use the music, videos etc on the NAS they are in itunes friendly folders (as they were compiled this way by the itunes on the old PC.
When i tell the mac to use the itunes library.itl file it sees the song list (about 100gb) but cant see any songs, so i have removed this file to another location for now with the hope to set up a new file and then get it to see the songs on the folder from the NAS.
Can someone tell me how to do this for all the Mac's and PC's on my network as i really want one master library that all use and add too.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I have the same question but I am using two pc's

  • \iPod_Control\iTunes\Temp file corrupted -- what now?

I'm using my new iPod with iTunes 7.0.2.16 on Windows XP.
For the first few days I used this iPod, it synchronized just fine when I connected it to my PC via the USB cable.
However, yesterday I got an error message at the end of the synch. It read:
    Windows -- No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive E:
Then, after I pressed Continue, I'd get what appeared to be an iTunes error, stating that the iPod "cannnot be updated. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
Finally, today, after getting that iTunes message, a different warning box popped up in the lower right corner of my screeen. It read:
    iTunes.exe -- Corrupt File
The file or directory \iPod_Control\iTunes\Temp file is corrupted and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
Now, from what I can gather, the chkdsk utility is a command line Windows utility that I might not even have on my PC, and don't really want to mess with.
Does anyone know how I might have gotten into this mess, or might possibly get out of it, without messing with the innards of Windows?
Are the three error messages, described above, somehow related?
Would downloading the latest version of Itunes and installing it be a solution?
    iPod   Windows XP   Windows
    iPod     Windows

Running chkdsk is not "messing with Window's innards." It's just a command line utility that checks and can correct directory issues on a drive.
Click on Start and go to Run (this is with your iPod connected, of course.).
In the Run prompt type "cmd" without the quotes, and hit okay.
At the command prompt, type the following:
    chkdsk E: /r
and then hit enter. The computer will scan the iPod disk and fix any directory mistakes it can. When that is finished, eject the iPod and disconnect it, then reopen iTunes and reconnect it. Hopefully it should be working fine after that.

  • TS4213 Why can't iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iTunes Library files and Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iPhoto Library files now that I upgraded to '11?

Why can't iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iTunes Library files and Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iPhoto Library files now that I upgraded to '11?
Examples of what is going on:
    1. In Pages, Numbers & Keynote, when I go to the media browser the Audio section reads "Open iTunes to populate this list" even after iTunes has been opened, .xml file has been replaced/repaired, etc  AND Photo section reads "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list" even after iPhoto Library has been replaced and new default library created.
    2. In iMovie, similar thing ... when I go to add photos or music to a movie the iTunes files aren't present and the iPhoto photos are missing with similar messages as in #1.
    3. In iPhoto, similar thing ... when I go to add music to a slideshow it says to "Open iTunes to populate this list".
It is shocking to me that Apple would let something as simple as a pathway link to associated library files get this messed up on an upgrade, but what's even more surprising is that with the number of people who seem to be having this particular issue (and I can tell from all the research that I've done for weeks online that there are a lot of them) that there doesn't seem to be a single clear answer to fixing it anywhere on these community support forums.  Most of what I've seen is rehashed advice from outdated issues.  What I need is a simple answer to how do we get these programs to look for the correct location of the photo and music files because I sure can't seem to find any logical place to do that through the programs' preferences files or the system preferences window?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    P.S. Here's the details on the software/hardware:
    MacBook Pro
    Mac OS X
    Version 10.7.5
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    iTunes 11.0.4 (4)
    iPhoto '11 9.4.3 (720.91)
    iMovie '11 9.0.9 (1795)
    Keynote '09 5.3 (1170)
    Pages '09 4.3 (1048)
    Numbers '09 2.3 (554)

I have the same problem on a new MacBook Pro. I have not been able to access the iTunes library from iPhoto since I got this computer. I looked in the Preferences file and deleted the com.apple.iApps.plist but there was no com.apple.iApps.lockfile so I just deleted the iAPPs.plist and rebooted the computer.  Still no iTunes available in iPhoto.
All my music is in iTunes and plays. After reading the above I brought up Pages and I was able to access music and insert a track into a document.
    Do you have any suggestions.

  • Confusion on iTunes Plus Files and Computer Authorization

I wonder if someone could help me alleviate some confusion surrounding iTunes plus files and computer authorizations.  I personally also have iTunes match on my account.
Reading online it appears that all iTunes Plus files do not not have DRM. I have this setup on my main iMac in my house. Now, I am copying music to my wife's laptop via home sharing. She is not using iTunes match because she has her own iTunes account. The home sharing is using her iTunes account. What is confusing me is that her laptop asking me to authorize the computer for playback of the audio files under my iTunes account. Why is this occuring if there is no DRM on the files?
I understand that I need to authorize machines for my iTunes match account, but these all should theoretically be DRM files that I am dragging and dropping via home sharing to her machine. Can anyone clarify what is going on in this situation?

Go to Store -> View Account. Log in to your account and click Purchase History. Then click Report a Problem. Then choose your upgrade purchase and explain your situation.

  • How to Delete Temp files and Cache on MBP 15" Late 2011

    Hi,
Off late i am experiencing a lag in my mac and it runs bit slowly. Wanted to get a clear picture on how to clear the unwanted temp files and cache to make my mac run smoothly. Any other suggestions to make it run fast are welcome and would be of great help.
    Regards,

The assumption that unwanted temp files and cache are causing poor performance is unjustified. OS X does not maintain unwanted cache files. They exist to increase performance and are updated or deleted as necessary. So are temporary files. Certain font cache files are moved to the Trash during Safe Boot: OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support. Do not use any other utility.
If your Mac is running slowly, determine if the same symptoms occur in Safe Mode.
Back up your Mac if you have not done so already. To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.

  • Essbase temp files and cache files

    Hi All,
where essbase creates its temp files and cache files so that i can delete them. What is the path.
    Regards,
    Mink

The DBAG lists the files (and types) used for various reasons. Some can be deleted, others should be left there for recovery attempts when the database is started up. If your database won't start, the temporary files that can be safely deleted are also covered, although this part might be somewhere else in the technical reference.
There are also some backup files that could play a role, for instance, if the db file is the reason a database won't start, the backup file (dbb) can be used to replace it. For this reason, I don't recommend you just blindly delete all "unneeded" files if you are having a problem.
If you are referring to temp files like what the OS uses, I don't believe essbase uses any of the "%temp%\randomname.tmp" variety. I could be wrong on this, but it keeps file usage fairly straightforward, with server files in the database folder and client files in the %arborpath%\essbase\client folder. Client files can indeed be deleted if you don't have anything open, but they are rarely orphaned so you shouldn't see enough to cause performance degradation.
Hope this helps, between the perceived contexts and other potential intentions, there are other answers that may be more appropriate.

  • Itunes seems to be unable to locate original file to play songs. Songs are in the itunes media file and playable direct from file. Preferences/advance file location is correct. Some files are playing and others aren't with no obvious pattern.

Itunes is unable to locate original file when attempting to play music. Songs are in the itunes media file and playable direct from there. Preferences/Advanced file location pointer is correct. Some songs play but most don't. I did move files around a bit in an attempt to share music with another account on same computor, however this did not work so have returned file to original location. Please help, I am way outside my feild in this one. Ta.

I have solved the problem. i think when I moved the media file back out of public to my account, I put it back into the wrong place and ended up with a media file inside a media file, inside another media file!! So I moved it again and fixed!! Now I just need to work out why i can't share with another account user of same computor.

  • "iTunes Media" file in "Previous iTunes Library" taking up 50Gb of much-needed hard drive space.  Can this be safely deleted?

    Hi everyone,
My 3.5 year old 15" Macbook Pro is running out of hard drive space, so I have been trying to clean out some of the dross.  I recently found that there is a file called "Previous iTunes Library" in my iTunes folder that is taking up approximately 50Gb of space.   I would love to delete this folder and reclaim the space, but I am not sure what it is or where it came from, and I don't want to lose music files accidentally. Can someone tell me (1) what this folder is and (2) if I can safely delete it?
Here is a screenshot of these folders and their sizes:
    Thanks for the help!

    Hello facetious1212,
Take a look at this part of the article named iTunes: What are the iTunes library files? Found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1660.
Tip: New versions of iTunes sometimes include enhancements to the iTunes library. When you open the new version of iTunes, iTunes upgrades your existing library to the new format and places a copy of the old library in the Previous Libraries folder. If everything goes fine during your upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, you can delete the older iTunes Library files.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • In Adobe Acrobat X, can you save a PDF to a temp file and forward the email back out?

    I'm running windows 7 Professional x64
    Adobe Acrobat X Professional
    Microsoft Office 2010 professional
While  using Adobe Acrobat 9 with Office 2007, I have a user that was previously able to receive a PDF in Outlook, sign it, save it to the temp files, then forward the original email to a different user with my signature and changes saved within the PDF.  Now that I have upgraded to Acrobat X and Office 2010, that capability is no longer available, but I can complete the aforementioned process when using Microsoft Excel.
Is there a way to do this with Adobe X and Office 2010, or was that capability removed with the upgrade to one of the 2 software packages?
The error that I get when signing a document is:
    document_name.pdf
This file is set to read-only.
Try again with a different file name

These are the screens that I am presented with when trying to save or open a file in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. I am logged in with my account and have mobile sharing activated on my iOS app.
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit.

  • The File "(file name)" is an iTunes Store File and can't be burned to MP3cd

I am using the most recent updates to OS 10.4.8 and iTunes 7. I am getting this error stating that iTunes Store Files, which are also protected AAC files, can neither be burned to MP3 CD or converted into MP3 files. I also tried using Roxio Toast, most recent version, which converts the files to QuickTime AIFF files, which will not even play in QuickTime. I did not have this problem with older versions of iTunes. It is only songs purchased from iTunes Store that have this problem.
    Any suggestions?

Which version of Toast 6 are you using? Roxio made the change with the 6.1 update to "fix" Toast to no longer burn purchased iTMS content.
    http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/toast/version_history6.html
"Following discussions with Apple, this version will no longer allow customers to create audio CDs, audio DVDs, or export audio to their hard drive using purchased iTunes music store content."
If your CD version is previous to 6.1 and you updated it after the fact, you could try deleting it and reinstalling it and this time NOT updating it and see if you can now burn the iTMS songs.
