ITunes thinks I have authorised 3 computers - I haven't

iTunes 7.0.1. is under the impression that I have authorised 3 computers to use the iTunes store. I haven't.
As I was downloading a track, my already authorised G5 popped up a message saying authorisation had been OK. Checking my account shows 3 authorised machines. I foillowed Apple's guide "One computer using multiple iTunes Store authorizations" on both this and my notebook. Both show that each machine is only authorised once. As I have no other computers, this is baffling.
Another problem with iTunes? How do I get it back to recognising that I am only authed on the two machines I own?
Any thoughts, guys?

Have you added any RAM/hardware or reinstalled the OS?
These can cause iTunes to think it's a different machine, thereby using an other authorization.

This is not really a problem (although it can be irritating) unless you need that authorization back to use on another computer.

Apparently you can have 5 computers registered for iTunes.  I have 3 active computers but I guess I have other computers that are still activated that I no longer use and I no longer have as they crashed.  Is there a way to delete or see what the other computers are so that I can go in and delete them?  I've tried to email Apple directly but apparently I need my hardware # and obviously I do not have that # since I don't have the equipment any longer.  Any help is greatly appreicated.  I am trying to add another computer and it won't allow me to as they say I'm at my limit.  Please help!

    Sure.
Just open up iTunes on your computer -> Go to the iTunes Store -> Click your e- maill address (top right corner of the window) -> Type in your password for your Apple ID -> Under Computer Authorisations (underneath your Apple ID account balance and address) -> Press 'Deauthorise All'
-> This will deauthorise all computers and devices from your iTunes account -> you then need to re- authorise any computers/ devices you would like to use with your Apple ID for iTunes content -> to do this, select the Store tab along the menu at the top (where 'File', 'Edit', 'View' etc..... are) -> Then click 'Authorise this Computer' -> Type in your Apple ID -> Voila!
For any iOS devices (non- computers) you wish to re- authorise, these will automatically do so when you go to play iTunes content, download an app or anything like that on those devices!
    Hope this helps!

iTunes says I have authorized five computers so I can no longer play music I have purchased. I have not replaced my computer once. Why does iTunes say this?

    Hey Christownsend,
Thanks for the question. To troubleshoot this issue, you may want to try deauthorizing all computers:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
To deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
    1. Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    3. Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Had to reload windows, now itunes thinks I have a new laptop.

Had to reload windows, now itunes thinks I have a new laptop.
I cannot now delete or load songs onto iphone unless I wipe them all and start again. Is there anything I can do to get round this problem?
Strange how I do not have this problem with my ipod nano!!
    Many thanks all.

+Strange how I do not have this problem with my ipod nano!!+
What folders did you back up and then restore after reinstalling Windows? The nano does not use a few folders that iPhones/iTouch/iPads use. But they both use the same library database file, iTunes Library.itl. That is the main file that tells itunes if a device has been synced to it.

  • I have 2 itunes accounts - one work a/c and one home a/c, but when i sign in at home only my home songs appear even if I sign in my work a/c. I have authorised both computers to show both a/cs. How can I get my work a/c songs to appear at home?

I have 2 itunes a/cs one at work and one at home. Both computers are authorised for the 2 a/cs, but I can;t get my work a/c songs to show on my home computer, even though I sign in my work a/c, and I can't get my home songs to show up on the  work computer even though I sign in my home a/c. V. frustrating!

    Hi,
You will have to manually copy your music. Get a pen-drive big enough to accommodate all your music. And follow these steps:
    1. Create a new folder on the pen-drive.
    2. Copy the music from your work computer to the folder you just created. It's in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media>Music if you're using a Mac, or in C:\Users\(yourusername)\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music if you're using Windows.
    3. Now on your home computer quit iTunes, and copy your music from work to the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media.
    4. Start iTunes. It will automatically start to process the files and move them to the appropriate place.
Repeat these steps with your music from home on your work computer. Also I suggest to use only one iTunes account if possible.
    Hope it helps

  • I only have 2 computers but itunes says i have authorised 4

    Can i reset this?

De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • How to reload itunes, itunes thinks I have it loaded and will not reload

I need to reload Itunes on a windows 7 computer.  I have deleted the progam and any other files I can find to delete associated with itunes, must be something left because itunes will not reload because it thinks it is already loaded.
What do I need to delet that is not obvious.

Well I only recently started with win 8 but I have also seen a few messages warning of concern about files I had downloaded but the dl was permitted but when i tried to execute the setup there was an option to go ahead with the install or abort, so I did and all is well. My thoughts are as long as you trust the origin of the download, and I think you can trust apple.

  • IPod not showing up on desktop or in iTunes, thinking I have to re-install.

My iPod isn't showing up when I plug it into my iMac G5 and going through the help menus, I've found that it suggests re-installing iTunes before trying to restore my iPod.
I have a color screen 20 GB iPod that I purchased about a year ago.
Now, will re-installing iTunes dump all my ratings and notes and cover art I've collected and modified over the past year?
It seems to me that my iPod is full of songs I might not like to listen to as much and podcasts I'm never going to listen to in the first place, so it seems to me that I'd be better off just restoring the iPod instead.
Any suggestions or people who have the same problem?
I will reward helpful hints, and this will be posted on the iPod board as well. Thanks.

Now, will re-installing iTunes dump all my ratings and notes and cover art I've collected and modified over the past year?
No, it won't. Cover art is embedded in the song files and ratings and comments are stored in the 'iTunes library' file, which isn't replaced or deleted by re-installing iTunes.
Before re-installing iTunes, you might read this article.
It contains lots of useful information about fixing these kind of problems.
Personally, I would try the 5 R's first (Reset, Retry, etc.)
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes thinks I have a new iPod Touch

    Hi
I got a new iPod Touch yesterday. I connected it to iTunes, synced it, updated to 2.0 firmware and charged it. Now, every time I connect it to iTunes, I get the welcome screen as though it's the first time I've plugged it in. When I click ok, it goes to the normal iPod screen and all my content is there and my sync preferences are ok, but it's a bit annoying having the welcome screen come up every time. I don't know if this is something to do with the update or not.
Has anyone else had this? Would restoring help?

I had this problem and a restore did resolve it, but I had to restore as *a new ipod* as restoring from backup didn't work... which meant I had to restore all settings manually .
What I think caused this problem is probably interrupting the first sync. Try restoring it as a new iPod, and don't sync any music, videos etc. to it just yet (i.e. uncheck all the boxes on the startup page or you'll be waiting a very long time for all of your music to sync) then wait until the iPod has synced completely. Then disconnect and re-connect again to find (hopefully) that the problem has gone away. Then you can sync everything back on your iPod.
The above is just my two cents. I might be entirely wrong.

  • ITunes thinks I have a 4th Generation iPod when it really is a nano

Hey, so I downloaded itunes 7.0.1 and the plugged in my iPod Nano (1st generation). Then it says: "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "My iPod" because your iPod software is too old. Go to Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update". So I went to the summary tab and first off I notice that the picture of what my iPod is looks a whole lot more like a 4th generation iPod than a iPod nano (it used to show a iPod Nano). Can any help me with why my iTunes is acting up?

  • I have authorised 5 computers for 2 years a go..

waht can i do if i dont have them now?

Use the Deauthorize All command (see below), and then re-authorize just the ones you are still using.

  • When I update my motherboard BIOs itunes thinks I have a new PC

I had a previous X79 EVGA SLI motherboard and everytime I updated the BIOs itunes thought I had a different computer. OK so I changed motherboards to a new X79 Dark and everytime I update the BIOs on this motherboard I get the same thing from the itunes store

As far as I recall I'm not aware of a BIOS update causing an authorization issue for me, but if it happens every time you update your BIOS then it is a reasonable conclusion that there might be a connection. I don't know how Apple authenticates a computer, but I assume it involves some kind of checksum derived by inspecting various components of the system. Perhaps a quirk of your BIOS/motherboard is involved.

  • I have a 4GB Nano, but that's NOT what iTunes thinks...

iTunes thinks I have 58.33GB of free space, 15.64GB of other, and 514.2MB of Audio.
    What's up with that?
It's constantly downloading subscribed Podcasts that I cannot see on my Nano, under Podcasts.
I had 2 recent freeze ups, so I have formated & restored my Nano a few times already.
Oh, and it's constantly on'DO NOT DISCONNECT' when plugged in to my PC
Do I have to uninstall i-Tunes or something?
