ITunes thinks podcasts are unplayed

I use other methods to play the podcasts downloaded by iTunes (I use a Squeezebox). iTunes will stop automatically updating my subscriptions because it thinks I haven't played them since however long. Is there any way to tell iTunes to quit this obnoxious behavior?

It is indeed irritating that iTunes stops updating with no options available to change this. I have iTunes set to keep last four episodes, so that i'm always up to date. Even if I haven't listened in a while, I'd like the unlistened to, older episodes, to be replaced by the four most current.
Just wanted to add to this thread in case Apple is looking...

  • ITunes thinks movies are still on iPad

I recently moved from iPad 2 to the new iPad. On my old iPad, I had 2 movies synced to it when I did my final backup. When I restored the new iPad from cloud backup, it restored everything except the 2 movies, but still thinks they are on the iPad. In iTunes, no matter how many times I check and uncheck the two movies, they automatically check and show the space used, but does not copy the moves to the new iPad. I even tried deleting the moves from iTunes and re-downloading them, tried marking them unwatched and syncing unwatched movies, made sure the movies were checked in all lists, etc. Yet no matter what I do, I cannot get the moves to re-copy to the new iPad. I even tried clearing the iTunes Store cache.
Anyone else have this issue? Any other suggestions I could try (short of restoring as a new iPad and putting everything back on)?
    Thanks...RK

See if any of the following fix it :
    - close the iTunes store app via the multitasking bar and see if you can redownload the film when you re-open it : double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the iTunes store app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
    - a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    - turn Settings > iTunes & App Store > Videos (under 'show all') 'on' and see if the film then shows in the Videos app with the cloud icon for downloading.

  • ITunes thinks tracks are empty when they are not

    Hi--
My problem is that when I try to burn imported (original) tracks to disk from iTunes, iTunes says "tracks are empty." iTunes recognizes and plays the tracks; can import them; but seems unable to recognize them when asked to burn to CD.
    Any advice??
    thanks--

Yes, they are in a playlist--and they play back. I think the files were SDII or WAVs originally off Pro Tools.
    Thanks!

  • New here! Importing two CD sets? iTunes thinks they are separate albums.

Hi! I'm new here, and I can't find this topic. Sorry if it's already been asked:
I have many CD sets with two or more discs. Itunes thinks that each disk is a different album, and iTunes not only puts them in different folders, but often with different album covers.
So, how do I merge these CDs into one "album" with the right cover art and all the songs of the albums.
    Thank you!

  • Songs on ipod randomly disappear but itunes thinks they are still there on ipod

my ipod recently randomly deleted all my songs on my ipod except for an ep i bought directly from my ipod. I had not synced it in a while so that has nothing to do with it. when i did sync it to try and retrieve all my songs, my itunes still acts as though nothing happened and all my songs are there. i tried turning off and on my ipod and no one seems to have had this happen to them so i dont know what to do. all my apps work and none of my photos got wiped though.

Does your iPod touch show the shows as still there if you check Settings > General > About? Does that match the number of songs synced from iTunes?
You can always search Spotlight on the iPod too, to see if its still on there somewhere.
If you think there is a problem with the software on the iPod touch, try restoring it.

  • ITunes thinks songs are missing when they are NOT...

I've written about this in the past and I thought I had fixed it manually. For some reason a large number of my songs (about 1300) in iTunes are not able to be found on the drive when I try to play them. Once I try to play them I get an error message saying "The song "song name" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it" and then the "!" symbol shows up next to the song. The songs files ARE there though.
In the past I thought I solved this problem because I "re-added" using all the songs in my library (about 4500) "File->Add To Library". If the song was one of these "missing" songs it was re-added to the library. The songs that were not "missing" were not re-added. (and again, the song files iTunes is re-adding are the exact song files it is saying aren't there in the first place) After the "re-add" I essentially had two of all the missing songs. One with the "!" and one without it. The newly added songs did not have any of the stats the original song had. So I used a script I was told about that goes through and syncs the song's statistics. Then after the song stats were synced I removed the "!" song from the library. I had to do this one song at a time. Of course, this took a VERY long time and I don't really want to go through it again... especially now that I know it may not be a permanent fix anyway!
However here is something new I noticed now that I have Leopard: The files that are showing up as missing are also the ones that don't have a "thumbnail" icon of the album cover in the finder. Also, if I go into coverflow view in the finder those files don't have the album as the other files do. However, there should be no differences between the files. For example, one album where each song was ripped at the same time in the same way will have some songs that have the cover icon and some that don't.
As I reported last time, this is not specific to one machine and has noting to do with the drive the songs are on. This also was happening on both 10.5.1. and 10.4.11 and lower.
So, why is this happening and how can it be fixed. I'm not going to re-import the songs because then I loose all my stats, ratings, etc and have to re-do the long method of fixin the stats.. There needs to be some way to permanently fix this problem. Is it with the song files or the library? Is there some sort of validation script that can be run?
Oh, on a side note... pre-leopard the "!" would show all the time. Now, if I close iTunes and re-open the "!" are gone until I try to play the song that should have the "!". This makes things even more challenging because I can't quit iTunes if I want to know which songs are "missing".
    Jeff

I have this same issue. I use an external HD connected to an Airport Extreme Base station to store my music. On Tiger 10.4.11 iTunes created a music database just fine and found every mp3. I just installed Leopard last night and left iTunes to create its database overnight. It found every song, but there are plenty with the exclamation just as you described. If I want to play these songs I must hit "Yes" to locate the song manually. I can then play any other song with an exclamation point in that particular album, but if I go to try to play another song with an exclamation point from another album I must repeat the process again.
It's definitely a problem with Leopard as I just got my mac back from the Apple store with a replaced hard drive. I created the iTunes database in Tiger on one day, then the next decided to purchase and install Leopard. So one day passed between each instance of building the database and it worked fine on a clean install of Tiger but not on a clean install of Leopard.

  • ITunes Podcasts are transferred to AppleTV as MOVIES...  They are PODCASTS?

AppleTV software Version 3.01. All iTunes U Podcasts are downloaded to AppleTV into the MY Movies section not into the My Podcasts section. iTunes U Podcasts never appear in the Podcasts section. All my other Podcasts appear normally in the My Podcasts section. Software problem or my problem?

    AppleTV Software I believe.
You'll see iTunes U podcasts listed separately in iTunes to either podcasts or movies.
I just think AppleTv doesn't know about them, but it would make more sense for them to be in podcasts or an iTunes U genre of Movies.

  • Podcasts are showing up under Albums, Songs and Artists categories on iPod

I recently purchased an iPod - 80gb. I used iTunes to subscribe to several podcasts.
On iTunes the podcasts are in the podcasts folder, the music is in the music folder - happy days!
However, on my ipod, as well as being listed under the podcast category, they are also accessible from Albums, Artists and Songs. This is seriously annoying.
Is this a bug? A girl who worked in the Apple store seems to think it might be when I brought my ipod in for them to check.
I use iTunes only to manage podcasts and music. I tried a restore and it's still the same.
The related issue is that while the podcasts sync fine and appear as desired in the podcast category, the played podcasts are still available via Albums, Artists and Songs even though I've instructed iTunes to only sync unplayed items.
Will this be fixed? Is there a workaround?

Unless Apple changes the software, there is no real fix. If you don't want podcasts to play when you're shuffling your music library, make sure the podcasts are set to Skip When Shuffling (under Get Info). And you can send your feedback to Apple here:

  • New podcasts are not marked as unplayed

    Hello,
With the Podcasts app some new podcasts are not automatically marked as unplayed in the iPhone and iPad apps with iOS 8 and iOS 7 (there is no problem with iTunes in my mac/windows laptops).
I have realized that it depends on the format of the date of episode. For example, if the format is something like "22 nov 0014", the new episodes won´t be marked as unplayed and I have to do it manually.
However, if the format of the date is something like "15 of november", the new episodes will be marked as unplayed.
I have tried to modify the format of the date of the iPhone to U.S. (I am spanish), but nothing changed.
Do you have any idea about the reason of this behavior? Checking all the new episodes manually is very annoying.
    Thank in advance.

I don´t know why but the problem was solved two days ago. Now, the format of the date in the app is exactly the same for all the podcasts, the "correct" one.
I guess that apple has modified something in the database to use the same format that it was using the iTunes app of OSX.

  • With iTunes 10, Computer Still Freezing When Podcasts are Downloading

For the last several versions of iTunes, my computer has been slowing down a LOT while podcasts are downloading, especially when a new iT version is first installed. Then things improve over time. Now, with iTunes 10.1.1.4, it's horrendous. ITunes takes forever to open, and then causes my computer to become completely unresponsive. It doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard inputs, so I can't minimize it or shut it down.
Sometimes when that happens, I can't even open Task Manager, but when I can, it indicates that iTunes is using between 95 and 98% of CPU. In that circumstance, I can't even shut down iTunes with TM. After 15 or 20 minutes and all the podcasts have downloaded, I'm able to use my computer again, even with iTunes open.
It happens with all podcasts, but obviously it's more of a problem when a big pcast is downloading.
Today, I got the famous blue screen of death. All my programs had frozen and I was trying to shut down iTunes. The blue screen said "kernel data inpage error," whatever that means.
With past versions, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iT, but that has not helped.
All my other programs are working fine. Today I ran CCCleaner, AdAware, RegCure and Malware Bytes, but nothing changed. My McAfee anti-virus max scanning time is 10 seconds.
Any idea what could be going on here? Or how to begin troubleshooting this mess?

    Hi,
finally worked! I found this post and it has finally worked I understand it is the same as WHATHECK's answer so thanks WHATHECK!
You have to be certain that you have backed up your Library's and Playlists and that you are doing the one in the root (if like me you use a HD any old library/playlists instead of deleting them put them some were safe just incase and make sure you are re-creating the library from your root folder i.e user/music/itunes
    Anyone trying thishttps://discussions.apple.com/message/15093132#15093132
    Good luck!
Seriously thinking of not updating itunes next time...

  • Played Podcasts are not removed from iPhone despite iTunes settings?

    Hi,
In iTunes I have set my general Podcast settings to only sync unplayed podcasts to my iPhone. However, when synced, the played podcasts remain on my iPhone. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks

I have exactly this problem. Alongside the podcasts I subscribe to via iTunes, I download some random ones from time to time via the iPhone itself. Now I simply can't rid myself of the files - they show on the iPhone screen but not when connected to iTunes and they are restored to my library every time I reconnect to the Mac. There seems to be no way of deleting the things - I even tried de-synching all podcasts and re-synching again but this didn't work either.
This only seems to have happened since I upgraded to iOS 5. Mine is a 3gs by the way.
    Any answers anyone?

  • Podcasts are without video after iTunes 702 update !!

After updating to iTunes 702, my previously downloaded podcasts are not viewing any video, just the audio.
Anyone has the same problem ??

When I navigate via Music/Podcasts (or Podcasts straight off the main menu if you have your iPod configured that way), I get the audio and video podcasts and these are then played back audio-only (ie any video podcasts are played back from that menu as thought they were audio-only, which isn't a bad thing if I have my iPod in my pocket, as I guess it uses less power than generating the video which I'm not watching?).
To watch video podcasts including the video, I have to navigate through the menus via Videos/Video Podcasts, then I see only the video podcasts and any I select from there are played back audio+video.
If that isn't the case for you too, I don't have any suggestions because I don't think I am doing anything particular to make it work that way. This is with a 5.5G 80Gbyte iPod and the latest firmware and iTunes software.

  • Podcasts are on iPhone and pc, but not in iTunes

I have a problem with podcasts which I don't think is already being discussed on here.
I have a whole load of podcasts which I have previously downloaded through iTunes. The podcasts are on my iPhone and are stored in my PC in the appropriate folder, but when I look at them in iTunes they all have the icon telling me I can download them but they cannot be played from iTunes. It's as if they want to be downloaded again, but I have spent hours downloading them all the first time and can't afford the time or the money to do so again. Since the files are on my PC and my phone, how can I convince iTunes that I have them?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have listened to podcasts from iTunes many times before and there are still a few podcasts in my iTunes and I can play those as I always have. It's just the ones from one particular folder that I can't play in iTunes.

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.
    Need Help!!!
