ITunes to ATV2 - movies worked once but now some no audio and some no video

I Bought and successfully hooked up my ATV2 and got it linked up with my iTunes home sharing via airport extreme. Everything was working and playing nice. I think it was even working after the update to 4.3. Now, Several of my movies play on the ATV2 with no sound, and one plays with sound but blank screen.
The videos work fine when viewed on my computer, and also when hooked into the television via DVI. For some reason the ATV2 has ceased to recognize the video on some of my movies and the audio on at least one. The other videos work fine on the ATV2, and they were all re-encoded to work with ATV2 using the same software (Handbrake).
I could list off the things such as re-installing/unplugging/resetting that I have already done but this is long enough already I don't ant to wear your patience too thin -yet! If anyone has had the same problems and has found a solution, please help me and my family!!

*Same problem here!* There is one particular movie, the title of which I am too embarrassed to share, sourced in a BluRay that I converted to ATV2 format using Handbrake and watched the first 20 minutes of it on my ATV2 before work. Later in the day, I updated my ATV2 and intended to finish watching the movie but, to my despair, the picture was completely black, although the audio seems to work fine and the timecode ticks away at the bottom perfectly. After making another attempt to play this one file, every now and again, when I return to the menu, I will get a brief flash of one frame of the picture... so the video signal is reaching the ATV2 system.
This problem is really interesting because, not only does no amount of restoring factory settings and reinstalling things seem to help but, I have dozens of movies which I've converted to and from identical formats, using the identical method and the ATV2 seems to be discriminating this one out of all others
The only difference I can see is that this one movie was being watched and had recently been buffered. *Is there, perhaps, some way to clear the ATV2's memory!?*

Your source video file is probably muxed.
Neither QT Pro or iTunes has the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
See: iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
Try MPEG Streamclip.

How did you install GarageBand on your Mac? Did it come preinstalled with the other iLife applications?
If your MacOS supports the AppStore, you should be able to redownload GarageBand from the AppStore, see this support Article: OS X: About OS X Recovery on how to download again:
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

When you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. This article describes how to manage these associations.

Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days.
Note: Removing a device from your Apple ID does not override the 90-day timer. You must wait 90 days from the day the device was first associated with your Apple ID before it can be associated with another Apple ID.

Sorry, but movies cannot be downloaded more than once without charge, so if you don't have a viable backup, you may be out of luck. You can, however, contact the iTunes Store, explain the situation, and see if they can make an exception for you.

I can confirm the problem you are hitting. The XML test trace does not get recognized at all, and it defaults to Eclipse's basic Open File behaviour. I am not sure if it's because the format definition is missing, or if it's because something prevents the trace type from being recognized. I will open a bug about it.

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

I am having a similar problem, that has just started recently. I am on OS 10.5.8 with all security updates run. My Mail account is an IMAP account. When I check my mail through webmail on Safari, my new messages show up immediately. However, Mail does not show them. Clicking the "check mail" button does not bring them in. I have to quit Mail and re-start it, then the messages show.
I tried to implement Ernie's solution of turning off "Use IDLE". That command is ticked in my preferences, however it is greyed out and I can't change it. Why is that? If it helps, my IMAP path prefix is blank, I'm using port 133, and "use SSL" is not ticked. These are all default settings that I have used successfully for years and haven't fiddled with.
