ITunes top songs lists, calculation?

Does anyone know how iTunes "top songs" lists are calculated? Obviously they measure downloads, but over what time?
Also, there's one listing on the "portal" page of my country's iTunes store, but when I click it, songs are listed in another order. When checking the web site (with top songs by country), there's still another list. Why the differences, and which one is correct?
A related question: is it possible to see the number of downloads for a certain song?

Slightly more automated method:
Drag in the new song titles from the Store.
File > Display Duplicates.
Sort by Date Added. All the ones that are dupes and have a Buy button will now be together. Click the first, hold Shift, click the last to highlight the whole row, then Delete.
File > Display All. At this point, the remianing ones with a Buy button are known not to be dupes.
Since they are still sorted by Date Added, all the remaining ones with the Buy button will be together, and you can buy them!
Try this out with 8 or 10 new songs, including some that you know you already have and some that you don't. Give it a test before you do 200 songs.

How do I get rid of obscene album art from the top songs list on Apple TV

Under the Music app on Apple TV there appears a selection of "top songs". Frequently the album art for these "top songs" is obscene, or an abomination according to God. Is it possible to remove this "top songs" reference list from my Apple TV or at least hide it? Is there a rating setting for music such as the one that is provided for movies?

Unfortunately not.
Even though you can set up parental controls for the store to prevent preview/purchase of more adult content unfortunately the album/movie art will still show when browsing the store or your iTunes library via Computers.
I was a little annoyed with the Vevo apop the other day as a track with an expletive ridden title showed the text without ****s despite the option for showing more adult content being off.

How is the "Top Downloads" list calculated?

Does any one know how the "Top Downloads" on the iTunes U site is determined? The "Top Downloads" list has some correspondence with our weekly iTunes U report (I'm looking at the "Tracks" sheet in the report), but they're not nearly identical.

I don't know how "Top Downloads" is calculated exactly, so this is just a guess…
iTunes U usage data is held for the last sixty days. This corresponds to 8 weeks and 4 days. The weekly usage stats spreadsheets, on the other hand, go back just 4 weeks. In other words, if you request it, Apple can tell you what was going on with your site 60 days ago…even though the spreadsheet you get "this week" will only show activity for the past month. The admin guide also hints that "Top Downloads" is re-calculated one or more times each day, likely using the past 60 days' data.

Itunes 10- Song List View is just a black screen!!

I recently updated to itunes 10, initially it was working fine. Today, my computer bugged out while shutting down and I had to hold the power button on it. When it rebooted I scanned for viruses, errors, adware, etc... I have re-downloaded itunes and selected the 'Repair' option, but it did not help. I have made sure I am up-to-date on both itunes and quicktime updates. I have not seen any similar problems such as this while searching the internet, so I am posting here. If I hit the play button it will still play the songs from whatever playlist I am currently in, and the grid view works, but when I want to view the song list (which is the way i always use my itunes) it just turns the window within itunes, the window that has the song list, completely black. This happens for all of my playlists, recently added, full music collection, any playlist that can be viewed using the song list view. Is there anyone who has also experienced this? What can I do? It took me over 10 hours to create this playlist with the large amount of music I have and I would not be happy to have to sit there an go brain dead again creating it.... please help!

Tylerdowner, as a moderator, one would think that, prior to adjusting comments/solutions, especially when not having a Mac, you would do more research (bet you know someone with a Mac, to duplicate problem), or pass responding on to a moderator who does have a Mac (I am amazed that you are even a moderator on Mac problems/situations, if you only have access to a PC). Had the solutions above worked, I would not have needed to figure out another solution (we all know the newest release of anything is the most secure). Finally I am open to any fixes (tested) that you can provide, that improve upon mine. As a moderator, maybe you have pull with the Foxtab and/or Adobe people to get them to work out compatibility, and lastly, maybe add a warning at the Foxtab add-ons page, after verifying the problem yourself, with an associate's/friend's Mac.

Itunes shuffle song list

i cannot get itunes to shuffle my song list. I have installed latest update and used both the button at the bottom and drop the down menu to toggle the shuffle and it will not work.

Does it play the songs shuffled?
If you sort on the first column with the numbers and click Shuffle, it will shuffle the songs and change the display/sort order & play them in that order.
If you sort on any other column and click Chuffle, they will stay displayed/sorted on that column but when you play it, the playlist jumps around (shuffling) the songs.

ITunes top songs differnet on hope page than when you go to it

On iTunes store's home page it shows these songs but when I click on the little arrow pointing to the right to see the full list of songs, it has a completely different list. See,
So anyway is there a way to report the error because when I clicked on help on iTunes then on iTunes Service and Support it just took me to the main support page instead of to a form to fill out like it used to do about a year or two ago.

I've upgraded songs to the drm free iTunes plus kind but I no longer remember which they are.
How do I find them without going through my whole collection?

You don't need to worry about bit rates. iTunes plus music has a "Kind": Purchased AAC audio file - Reagular iTunes tracks have a "Kind": Protected AAC audio file. AAC tracks imported from CD have a "Kind": AAC audio file.
So the one rule Kind is Purchased AAC audio file gets the iTunes plus music.

Export Song List -itunes- to Excel (with BPM)

Hi, trying to export my Itunes library song list to excel. When I do it, it exports most of the info but not the column BPM (Beats per minute). I need this one more than any as a DJ. Why is it not exporting? Any ideas? Everything else looks fine.

OK, let's try the hard way.
iTunes keeps an XML copy of your Library data in Music:iTunes:iTunes Music Library.xml. iTunes only writes to this file as a quasi-backup of the real database at the heart of iTunes - "iTunes Music Library".
The XML file does contain the BPM data. Depending on your familiarity with XML you may be able to easily parse out the data yourself rather than relying on iTunes' Export command.

Recovering iTunes Song List (iTunes Library.xml not updated)

How do I recover the iTunes library song list? My computer recently crashed, so I had to get this new one. The old hard drive is working fine. I just need the song list to be able to identify the songs that I have yet to copy unto my iPod (I arrange the library by 'Date Added'). Since my music files are located in a variety of places, it would be very difficult for me to locate each without being guided by the list.
For some weird reason, the iTunes Library.xml is not updated. It's still dated 2009, so that fix goes out the window, I guess.

Why does song list print over itself on CD cover?

When I try to print a CD cover for a CD purchased from itunes, the song list gets printed over itself e.g. 10 song titles printed on top of each other. Why? How can I cure this. (It didn't happen with itunes previous format)

Yes its possible it happens when there is a Duplicate Field on top of itself. I helped someone last year that had several fields that were duplicated.
Open Acrobat.
Go to tools menu
Choose Forms.
Click on Edit.
Click the field(s) that appear to have duplicated text.
If your keyboard has arrow keys click on the field then use arrow key to move to left, right, up, or down. If field shows underneath is not moved, delete the field selected.
Repeat as needed.

Ipod nono song list grayed out

We just got an ipod nano 2g. When we connect it to our PC and select it in itunes, the song list is grayed out. Any suggestions?

This is normal, by default your iPod/nano is set to "Auto update" where when you connect the nano to the PCiTUnes automaticly loads new songs and updates existing ones on the nano. With it on auto update the iPOd is in basic terms locked off. Usually theres no need to access songs off the nano cuz the original songs are on your PC.
If you do want to access and play songs from your nano, you will rightclick it in iTUnes, select "iPod Options" and in the following window set it to "Manual Update" With this feature on the list will not be grayed out and you can play songs from the nano. Only down side to this is you will have to manually add songs and playlist by dragging them over the ipod in iTunes and then dropping it. also with this feature on you will have to manually eject the nano from the PC EVERYTIME you connect it to a PC.

Since the last update to ITunes 11, my jewel case insert will not print correctly. The song list is copies one song on top of another.

Two questions:
How do I back up my library onto a DVD? I currently have iTunes 11 and am using Windows Vista

I have the exact problem and reported it to Apple 12-6-12. They were able to duplicate the problem on a Windows computer there. It apparently works fine on Macs, but not Windows. They are looking into it and hopefully will issue a software fix soon.

My question is Itunes related. How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from alphabetizing the song list created. I wanted to keep the original order, and somehow everything was alphabetized without requesting it.

That's just the sort order. It's displaying the media alphabetically because you have clicked on the NAME column near the top of the iTunes window.
Click on the little triangle above the column of numbers (usually on the far left side of the main iTunes window) and the media will sort in the order in which you added each item to the playlist.
You can easily reorder songs within a playlist: Click and HOLD on the song you wish to move, then drag-and-drop it wherever you like.

"Top Songs" category, on an artist's cd, on Itunes? What does it mean?

When I look at a cd, on itunes, there is a "top songs" category, for the cd. I notice that the order of the songs changes, week to week, in the "top songs," categgory, for the artist's cd. What does it mean? For example, does the first song listed mean it is currently the top selling song, for the artist's cd?

Song list in iTunes "out of bounds"?

Hey.
I have had this issue the last couple days, the song list in iTunes is out of its bounds. It goes all the way to the top, hiding the search field and making life a real pain.
I have tried restarting my PC and repairing iTunes, with no luck. Might have something to do with my dual monitors?
I'm not sure whether the installation's repair option just looks for damaged files or reinstalls the whole program. If I had removed iTunes and reinstalled it, would it erase my library?
