ITunes - trouble burning Playlist converted to MP3?

tried burning a playlist, received error that the songs had to be originally MP3 to burn to a CD disk.  Followed instructions on how to convert those songs to MP3, which I did, and when I tried to burn the converted playlist, received that same message.
anyone able to assist?
thanks
Don

Zimmer,
When you convert tracks with iTunes (or most any other conversion program), it creates new files in the indicated format, but leaves the originals in place.
In your case, you have to go into the playlist, remove the originals, and add in the new MP3s.  They you will be able to burn an MP3 CD.

If they will play but will not convert, you probably have DRM "protected" files.  Were they purchased prior to mid-2009?
If so, and you don't want to burn, your choice is either to replace them, or to upgrade them by using Match.  For the latter option, see
iTunes Store: iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
and look at the section on "Can I upgrade my previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?"

  • Itunes 8 can not convert to mp3

I just updated to itunes 8 and now I can not convert to mp3 anymore! The CREATE mp3 version is greyed out and I can not pick it. I have checked and the import mp3 option is checked in the settings.

    Howdy!
also, it appears that Apple did not update the "iTunes Help" screens when they made iTunes 8 -- those screens still refer to the "advanced" tab in preferences, even though the importing functions are no longer located there:
    THEY READ as follows:
    *Choosing import settings*
You can choose the encoding format and other settings that iTunes uses to import songs. Your choices affect the audio quality and size of the song file (the higher the quality, the larger the file size).
    To choose import options:
Choose iTunes > Preferences and click Import Settings.
ETC. Well, at least they didn't do an iMove-style "revamp" to iTunes.! 8)

  • ITunes 11 - Burning Playlist to Audio CD fails when including CD Text

I just started running into an issue where I am unable to burn an Audio CD and include CD text.
I tried everything including different burn speeds and cannot get it to work.  I get the error:
The attempt to burn a disc failed.  An unknown error occured (4000).
Luckily nothing is ever written to the CD, so I am not making coasters.
For kicks to make sure iTunes CD burning was working for anything, I selected Data CD instead of an Audio CD, and the Data CD succesfully burned.
Then I attempted to burn the Playlist and unchecked "Include CD Text", and the CD was successfully created.
It has been a while and that means it was with a prior version of iTunes, but I have successfully burned playlists with CD Text.  How come this is not working in iTunes 11.0.0.163?
Anyone have any recommendations how to fix the CD Text Issue?

  • Trouble burning playlist onto cd using Itunes on Imac

I am trying to burn an audio playlist from my mac i tunes to a blank disc, all it says is 'attempt to burn disc failed, the disc driver didnt respond and cannot recover or retry' please help

It could well be the factor. I have some cheap DVDs  and only every other burn is successful with those.  You might get them to work if you slow the burn speed.

  • Itunes creating many playlists when dragging mp3's to itunes library

I have an external hard drive, and hooked it up to a new computer.  Whe I dragged the mp3 collection to itunes, it created hundreds of playlists, some being albums and some being artists lists.
Is there a setting I can change to keep itunes from randomly making playlists?  I've never had this problem after several years of using itunes.

The current build of iTunes (10.4.1.10) appears to have a couple of issues with M3U playlists. The first is that when you import an M3U playlist, the list is created, and any files not already in the library it are added to it, but for some reason they just don't get added to the playlist. Secondly, when adding folders to the library, iTunes is also attempting to add any M3U playlists that it finds as well as any other valid media files not already in the library. The upshot is that iTunes may create a bunch of empty playlists corresponding to any M3U files you have scattered through your folders.
Use iTunes Folder Watch to scan your media folders for new files (and also for dead tracks) to avoid the issue. This is a more effective way of importing new media than simply adding in the entire media folder over and over again.
If you already have empty playlists you are struggling to delete manually then I've written a script for just that purpose called KillEmptyPlaylists.
As and when the time comes that you do want to import an M3U playlist then I have written another script to workaround the current difficulty called ImportM3U which does just what it says. It will also convert and add any WMA files present in the list on the fly whereas iTunes would normally ignore these.

  • Trouble burning playlist

purchased "jersey boys" soundtrack from itunes store made my playlist but cant burn it to a CD doesn't give me the option are there some purchases that can't be burned to a cd??? and if so how can you tell before you purchase??

You can burn purchased songs as either an Audio CD or a Data CD. It sounds like your settings may be for an MP3 CD, which cannot be done.
You can check (and change) your settings at the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > Burning sub-tab.

    help

I now have the SAME issue. My sister just started having it on her p.c. about two weeks ago. I've been looking around the 'net, and am finding this is a very common problem, going back sometime now. (Going back to version 4?) I have yet to find a resolution to the problem posted anywhere though. I thought since it was such a common problem I'd find an answer here, but only found more people with issues. Can anyone point me (us) in the right direction? People pay pretty good money for this service, I would expect someone at Apple to step up and offer a solution. Anyone?

  • CONVERT from iTunes to other FORMATS (AAC, AIFF, MP3, WAV)

Came across a problem in trying to get music purchased from iTunes to be recognized by other media players (Quicktime or Final Cut Express). I found how to get iTunes to export to cd/dvd disks in AIFF format (and other formats).
    Steps used:
    From iTunes:
Create a new playlist folder in iTunes (under file)
Drop the songs you wished to use into the playlist folder
Go to the iTunes main menu,
    select 'Preferences'
    select 'Advanced'
    select 'Import'
using "Import Using" select the format (AAC, AIFF, MP3, WAV) you desire
Input your CD/DVD disk to burn
highlight your Playlist file in iTunes that you want to convert
    select 'File' in iTunes,
    select "Burn Playlist to disc"
What you end up with is a CD/DVD with the music files in the format you selected -(I needed AIFF) from there you can use the disk or copy your converted files back into Final Cut or other software for use.
Hope this helps others having similar issues

Have you tried other formats, besides AIFF?
You can only burn purchased music to an
    b Audio CD
and the Finder will tell you the files are AIFF. Actually the files on an Audio CD are PCM, but Mac OS 'sees' them as AIFF.
You can't convert purchased music in other formats, because it's protected.

  • Why are you not able to convert to mp3 anymore

I have just made a drive playlist to burn onto cd for a very long drive.  Went to convert the songs to MP3, so it fits on one CD, but itunes no longer allows this, why is this?

Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings > Set to MP3 & desired bit rate.
Select songs to convert to MP3, right-click, select Create MP3 version.
    Add songs to a playlist.
Right-click playlist > Burn Playlist to Disc > MP3 CD.
Or use the Data CD format and skip the conversion if your player is flexible.

  • Since I updated my itunes I can't burn a disc in MP3 format.  I converted the list to MP3 but it still won't burn., Since I updated my itunes I can't burn a disc in MP3 format.  I converted the list to MP3 but it still won't burn.

Since I updated my itunes I can no longer burn a playlist to disc using MP3 format.  I clicked on converting the songs to mp3 format but they still won't burn to disc.  The computer says it is checking media and then stops.

same problem. Im using itunes version 10.6.3, I converted wavs burnt from cd, to mp3 using itunes, these were  NOT PURCHASED from itunes, and when I try to burn an mp3 cd using the new mp3 files, they convert to wavs before my eyes every time i create a new playlist of the mp3. The mp3 revert to wav within less than 30 seconds. As if itunes is saying, let me help, I substitute the higher quality 1411 wav files for you. And of course, now they wont burn to mp3, because "they must be converted to mp3 first" before burning.
But every list of the mp3 version of the files keeps reverting to 1411 wav files?
    WHats going on? Thanks

About to back up iTunes to XHD. Have old version 10.6.3.  Have been afraid to update with 40GB of music. Been digitizing vinyl.  In this version, playlists export as m3u, which needs to be converted to MP3-Song by song??? Goal is to also be able to burn MP3 to flash drive and to XHD as usable data.
Help?? What do I do first?  Could export as m3u-then figure it out later? Or will this data be unreadable junk in a new version of iTunes?
Does new version 11.whatever., have a provision to make all into MP3? Obviously past applecare contract.
Been looking at forums-not clear what to do.
Is there a simple way to convert/export m3u as MP3 in the newest version of iTunes?  Am I asking the right questions???

  • ITunes 10.6.3 keeps generating incomplete downloads AND it rearranges the order of the playlist when I burn a playlist to an mp3 cd

iTunes 10.6.3 keeps generating incomplete downloads AND it rearranges the order of the playlist when I burn a playlist to an mp3 cd.
I purchased an album on iTues from my MAC book Pro & the song downloads were incomplete. The song length shows correctly in the column, but they cut off between 1/4 & 1/2 way through the songs. Now, I dwonloaded it on my iPhone 4 through my itunes account after the purchase & the songs play fine. This happened with the very next song I purchased, as well.
I got around this issue, then created mp3 versions of all the songs, put them in their own playlist, then "Burned an mp3 disc." When it completed, the songs were in a different order.
Are there any fixes for either of these problems/bugs?

  • ITunes, Burning Cds, Converting to AIFF

I am using a Mac Mini with MacOS 10.4.3 and I cannot get I tunes to burn songs to
    CD.
    I do the following:
    1. Make a playlist
    2. Select all items (either by ticking box or clicking the title. I have tried
    both.)
    3. Click the burn disc icon
    4. Insert a blank disc
    5. Click burn disc icon again.
An alert window appears saying: there are no songs to burn on this playlist.
    Add songs . . . etc.
When I try the same process on our other computer (an eMac with MacOS 10.3) I have no problem. The burn takes place as expected.
I have also tried with the Mini, using Toast 6, by converting the songs to AIFF
from the Advanced menu. This appears to happen, with the orange button and bell
ong signal, but when I check through get info (Command I) it says they are
still Quick Time movie files. Toast will not accept them as audio files.
Can you suggest any solution to either or both these problems?
    Regards,
    William Johns

Did you set the burning perferences to the correct disc format?
What type of disc are you trying to burn (Audio CD or MP3)?
You can find step by step instructions in the iTunes help.
After launching iTunes Help, go to Contents>Burning CDs or DVDs.
There you will find several topics about creating CDs.
If you convert tracks in iTunes, they will not be 'converted', but iTunes will make copies of these track in the format chosen by you.
These copies will appear in your Library.
I can (faintly) remember reading some posts about troubles with mp3's recognized as QT movies.
Searching these forums may give you a hint.
Maybe someone else can clarify this.
