ITunes trying to reinstall....

I have installed iTunes.
I then restarted the computer.
Upon restart, I tried to run iTunes.
It says "Please wait while Windows configures iTunes" and tries to reinstall.
I have uninstalled all Apple/iTunes related software, deleted all files, cleared out registry, and tried to reinstall.
It does the same thing....
Suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem as this on my partners machine. I figured out that the install was not working properly and re-created the shortcut so that iTunes ran. This leaves me with the following problem...
Every time I launch iTunes it tells me that it is not the default application for music files and would I like to fix this. When I say yes, Vista launches the default application dialogue. The problem is that iTunes is not listed as an application.
The second issue is that when I try and log into the iTunes store it tells me that my email address is not verified (which it is correct - I have set up an apple ID for my partner) - I follow the links, get the verification email resent and click the link in that email. An explorer window then launches inviting me to download iTunes. I know this is not right, because on my machine it gives me a message saying that my address has been verified and launches iTunes (if it's not already launched).
I think that the two issues are related - it seems as if iTunes has installed, but for some reason Vista does not think that it is.
I have tried uninstalling iTunes, and also followed Apples recommendations for unistalling all Apple software. I have then re-installed iTunes. I have done this several times all with the same result. I did notice that when I uninstall iTunes it leaves behind hundreds of registry entries, and a load of files (especially in the hidden Application Data folder).
This is very frustrating, as although iTunes functions, my partner cannot get into the iTunes store. It also needles me as I know something is not right.
I have googled and googled this problem, but cannot find the answer. I have installed iTunes on a lot of Vista 64bit machines and never seen this problem before!
Can anyone help?
Ps. UAC is turned off and I am logged in as an administrator.

Hi there  - I've spoken with Apple and here is their response (worked for me). You need to uninstall not only iTunes, but also (in this order):
    1) iTunes
    2) Apple Software Update
    3) Apple Mobile Device Support
    4) Bonjour
    5) Apple Application Support
    Then you restart your computer.
Then you install the latest version of iTunes (which will reinstall all those things you uninstalled).
Then you restart your computer again.
Mine is working perfectly again now.
I hope it works for you,
    Carmen.

  • I get error message trying to reinstall ITunes.  Error 7 (Windows Error 193), I get error message trying to reinstall ITunes.  Error 7 (Windows Error 193)

I get error 7 (windows error 193) when trying to reinstall itunes on all my devices: computer, Iphone, Ipad Air.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • I am trying to reinstall iTunes but everytime I try to reinstall it, it is telling me that I can't because I have a newer version of Quicktime installed. The problem is that I cannot uninstall this, please help.

I have just purchased an iPhone 4, but it wasn't connecting to my iTunes, so I took advice and uninstalled iTunes. But when I am trying to reinstall iTunes, it keeps telling me that I cannot because I have a newer version of Quicktime installed. I cannot find this newer version anywhere, and have gotten rid of the Quicktime folder, but it is still refusing to install iTunes.
Please help, I have tried everything.

But when I am trying to reinstall iTunes, it keeps telling me that I cannot because I have a newer version of Quicktime installed.
That's usually caused by damaged QuickTime installation configuration information on the PC.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • I uninstalled itunes to fix some ipod issues, and now I tried to reinstall it but it says that it's already installed.

I uninstalled itunes to fix some ipod issues, and now I tried to reinstall it but it says that it's already installed. When I went to find the "icon" I can"t find it. When i looked in the download files I saw the downloads, but not the actual itunes "app". Please help thanks!

How did you uninstall it and what were your IPOD issues - that may help clarify the problem.

  • I keep getting an error while trying to reinstall itunes?

I am trying to reinstall itunes and i am having an issue. I keep getting an error while trying to install and I keep getting very far but I always seem to end up with this.

I was attempting to reinstall due to an error message appearing when I opened itunes
"Itunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support Please uninstall
both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I have tried a few solutions and for the first error when installing one was an attempt at editing a registry file which I do not think succeeded because I am running windows 8 and was being directed for windows 7.

I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes it says i have to restore my iopd touch to factory settings and will loose my files. I have a few films on there and they show up on my purchases. If i restore, will i be able to get my films back ? as at the moment my ipod wont work now untill i restore anyway.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

well i have to be honest, but i don't know if it the vista you use has any significance for this. but you can try.
    okay follow:
1: click "start" on the status line on the buttom of your screen.
2: then click on "all Programs" and find "Accessories" and find the "command prompt"
3: Right click with your mouse "command prompt" and click on "run as administrator"
(as you has click'd on "run as administrator", "command prompt" should appear.)
4: when it appears you need to type this "netsh windsock reset"
5: wait for your computer to registrer the command you gave it, and restart your computer.
then erverything should be pretty much as good or better then new.
