ITunes U on Apple serves

I trying to clarify when Apple changed from hosting content from universities for iTunes U on Apple servers and where specifically that is in the documents. If I am misguided, please do tell.
Thanks

As far as I am aware it was January 2009. There isn't anything in the documentation, which confused me for about the first month as I couldn't find the options it mentioned in the documentation in the administration interface.
I only found out about the change in policy after doing a search of these forums.

  • I am unable to restore my iPad. iTunes keeps coming up with "unknown error (3004)" I have updated my Windows, tried searching for apple updates, but keep being told "cannot connect to apple server" HELP PLEASE

The whole problem started when I was syncing my iPad to update it. iTunes for some reason, put it into recovery mode. I have done all the hints and tips for the error code, checked my internet connection & tried to restore on another computer, but it required an update of iTunes and would not connect to Apple server either.

    Here is the work around:
When and if you get the same error it will prompt you to select one of three choices:
You have to select the LAST choice ---either Cancel (if you do this you will keep going around in circles), Restore to YOUR settings (which is really a trick question), or Restore to Factory (sorry I can't recall exact language)
Then in itunes select your ipad under "Devices" if it doesn't automatically...(YOU CAN SKIP TO #5)
There will be 3 Boxes in the "Summary" screen for you to choose from:
VERSION: DO NOT SELECT RESTORE, BACK.. I selected "Back up to this computer", OPTIONS: click on which ever box you desire (I did #1 & #2). Then I selected "CONFIGURE UNIVERSAL ACCESS" and hit "OK".
In the bottom right hand corner you will see two choices, select "SYNC" and your ipad & computer should start the syncing process which could last a LONG time depending on how much data you have backed up.
Sorry if this doesn't work for you but it's working so far for me! Good luck...and Apple please don't do this again! So very confusing!

  • ITunes Match 4010 Error - Apple Server Issue?

I've been using iTunes Match since the day it was available, and have had no issues.  Late last week I started getting the 4010 error some others have been reporting. The library information is gathered and upload to Apple without any apparent issue.  It gets hung up at the point when the iTunes message "Waiting for Apple to deliver your iTunes Match results..." has been up for about 30 seconds.  After that, the 4010 error appears.
I've tried all the usual tricks and resets, including signing out, creating a new iTunes library, etc., with no success.  The error appears multiple computers under my account.
I'm guessing this is an Apple server issue, but I'm not hearing a lot about it, so I'm beginning to wonder if it's happening to a small number of us.  Does anyone know if this is a widespread issue?
    Thanks!

Thanks.  I checked out those discussions before starting this one. Although they might be related, the other threads seem to mostly be about trouble initially setting up the match, trouble with uploading song information, or in one case, apparent duplicate charges from Apple.
The problem I'm seeing is slightly different in that it happens during a download, when the server is attempting to send the match info back to iTunes.  The suggested fixes didn't work, nor did some others I tried.
I thought the issue might be fixed with the last iTunes update, but it wasn't.  I had the same issue with 10.5.1 and 10.5.2.  It sounds like there are multiple problems on Apple's side.  It's been a week, but I guess we'll continue to wait and see.
    Thanks, again.

Can't connect to the iTunes Store
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down???

I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down or what? I need to download some things and update some apps...

I've been getting the same message for like an hour now.  Since everything was working fine a few hours ago, and nothing changed on my end before it stopped working, I'm guessing it's something on Apple's end.  They probably already know about it by now, and are hopefully working on fixing it, so there's probably not much we can do but wait for them to fix it.

  • Data usage when streaming from iTunes library to Apple TV?

I'm trying to manage my GB data usage through my ISP and was curious if, while streaming between my iTunes library and Apple TV television shows I have previously downloaded, is that using any data whatsoever? I know I used data to actually download the show initially, but once its just sitting in my library, and I call it up from my Apple TV later and start playing it, is there data usage going on?  Thanks!

Home sharing and AirPlay don't use any data, they are done over the local network. It will then depend on the source. If any content in your iTunes library has a cloud icon then it will be streamed, if it resides on your hard drive then there is no internet connection required apart from iTunes purchases (pinging server for verification)

  • Use macbook to manage 1 itunes library in a server

Hi all, I'm planning my move to MAC but need the answer to some key questions before.
I'm planning on having a itunes installed on a mac mini (server) connected to an external USB hard-drive holding all my music. I don't want to use this server itself (via mouse, keyboard, screen), I want to use it exclusively via my macbook/wifi (which will hold no music itself).
Is this possible? to have only one itunes library in the server and fully use and manage it via the macbook. Also I would need to move files and run programs on the server via macbook.
To throw in another variable... what if instead of a mac mini server, it was a regular PC with windows XP? would all this be possible too?
If this information is somewhere else, please point me out and I'll read it.
THANKS in advance for your input, it is greatly appreciated.

a wise choice, Jorge83 ! welcome to Apple discussions and the bright side of computing.

yes. you may need to have mouse, keyboard and monitor connected to the mini for the initial setup. but once that is done, you can access/control the mini vis +screen sharing+ from your MacBook.
To throw in another variable... what if instead of a mac mini server, it was a regular PC with windows XP? would all this be possible too?
it would not be a simple as with the mini (there's no screen sharing possible between Mac and PC AFAIK) but it should be an option, yes. i can't provide any steps for that scenario but perhaps another user can.
good luck and happy holidays !

  • Run iTunes on a headless server

I am wanting to run iTunes as a Music server on a headless server without an audio card. I have installed it copied over my entire library and turned on Homesharing. It works awesome with my Apple TV and any other iTunes computer but there is one problem. Since this is a Homeserver box (HP EX495) there isn't an audio card so every time I launch iTunes it first says there isn't a audio device. I push OK and everything works. I want to enable autologin and put iTunes in the start menu so I never have to remote into the box to push ok. Is there a command line switch with iTunes to not check on Audio/Video hardware?

I finally found help for setting up itunes on startup with no sound card. This worked for my HP Smartmedia server so it may work for you as well.
    Copied from another forum (Mediasmartserver)
    Step 1: Remove iTunes
Remove any install of iTunes form the server by logging in using RDC (Remember: Administrator, servername /console or /admin), After iTunes uninstall, go to Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel and also uninstall the following:
"Apple Application Support", "Bonjour", " Apple Software Update" and "QuickTime" (don't worry if some are not there to uninstall)
    Now restart the server.
    Step 2: iTunes Service Errors
Dial back into the server using RDC, Download the latest version of iTunes installer (32bit) from Apple, Run the installer, when the installer gets to "running services" it will hang for a bit then a error message will pop up regarding "ipodservice failed to start", Click IGNORE and the iTunes install will complete.
After install has completed you may get several windows error messages regarding "iPodservice 32bit" and, or "iTunesHelper" simply keep clicking "Don't Send" until the messages stop appearing.
Now disable iTunesHelper and the iPodService. Do this by:
    iPodService:
Start > Run > type msconfig > Services Tab > Uncheck iPodService.
    iTunesHelper:
Startup Tab > Uncheck iTunesHelper (you should also uncheck "Logon Warning" also to stop the annoying popup warning every time you login using RDC)
    Apply Changes, Click Restart LATER.
Step 3: Add iTunes to the DEP list
Now you need to add iTunes components to the DEP exempt list. Do this by:
While in your server desktop using RDC,
Right click "My Computer" > Properties > Advanced Tab > Under Performance section click Settings > Data Execution Prevention tab >Ensure "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" is selected > Click ADD > Add "iTunes.exe", "iTunesHelper.exe", "iPodService.exe", "iTunesPhotoProcessor.exe"
    you will find iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe and iTunesPhotoProcessor.exe at C:/Program Files/iTunes/ (default location)
you will find iPodService.exe at C:/Program Files/iPod/bin/ (default location)
    Restart the Server.
You may think why not just select "Turn on DEP for essential windows programs and services only" I thought the same but I can ensure you, you will run into issues if you do this!
    Step 4: Audio Configuration Error
Login in using RDC, you should hopefully not see any iTunes/iPod related error messages when logging into Windows. If you do check your DEP list to ensure all of the above are on there, OR you could try disabling Windows Error Reporting:
Right click "My Computer" > Properties > Advanced Tab > Error Reporting > Disable Error Reporting.
Launch iTunes, You will notice you get a " iTunes had detected a Audio Configuration Error" Click OK, iTunes will launch. Close iTunes
this happens because the server has no Audio Hardware, You need to install a "virtual audio cable" Download the following free program:
http://www.softpile.com/Multimedia/Audio/Review13135index.html(this is the virtual audio cable)
Now disconnect from the Server by closing RDC connection
Now for this to work you must change a setting in the RDC program: Sound output MUST be selected to: "from the windows based computer only" (RDC for Mac) or "leave at remote computer" (Windows RDC) you need to do this for the Virtual Audio Cable to install correctly on the server. Log back in using RDC and run the Virtual Audio Cable setup file. Now start iTunes, you should not see any Audio configuration error messages.
    If you do,
close iTunes, go to: Start > Control Panel > Quick Time > Audio Tab > Select "Direct Sound" > Apply settings and close > Try iTunes again.
If you still have a issue make sure you changed the sound option in RDC correctly or try a restart of the server.
This should now mean iTunes can start without any user input.
You should also add your iOS remote device now if you are going to be using one.
Step 5: iTunes auto launch on startup
Now that iTunes is free of errors, we need to make it auto start up when your server starts without needing to login into your server via RDC every time to start iTunes.
Simply add iTunes to the Start up folder, by either dragging the desktop shortcut to the start menu > all programs > and drop it into the startup folder OR place the iTunes shortcut into C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
Now to make the Administrator console login automatically on Windows start up, To do this you need to edit the registry of windows, Don't be afraid its simple and easy!
    Start > Run > type regedit.exe > HKEYLOCALMACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT >CurrentVersion > Winlogon
Double-click the DefaultUserName entry, type Administrator, and then click OK.
Double-click the DefaultPassword entry, type your password, and then click OK.
NOTE: If the DefaultPassword value does not exist, it must be added. To add the value, follow these steps:
On the Edit menu, click New, and then point to String Value.
Type DefaultPassword, and then press ENTER.
    Double-click DefaultPassword.
In the Edit String dialog, type your password and then click OK.
    Now Double-click AutoAdminLogon entry
In the Edit String dialog box, type 1 and then click OK. (delete the zero (0) if there is one)
    Quit Registry Editor.
As a nice touch (you don't have to do this)but if your like me, when logging in using RDC you see iTunes open, really you want it to startup minimized to the tray right? Yes! Do so by downloading and installing iTunes Control onto your server, its a free program.
You can get iTunes Control form here:
    http://itunescontrol.com/download.php
Once installed, open iTunesControl > Startup & Shutdown > Select Minimize iTunes on Startup > Apply setting and close.
Also in iTunes go to: Edit > Preferences >Advanced > Select "Show iTunes icon in system tray" and also select "Minimize iTunes window to system tray"
Your Done! if you restart the server it should automatically launch iTunes without ANY user input, easy way to check is by using a iOS device remote app to see if it connects after a server restart. or by using your apple tv to confirm iTunes is running. If you are streaming to a AirPort Express make sure it is selected as the speaker output from iTunes or via Remote App.

  • Last night i downloaded two t.v. shows and it took over 8 hours.  Is there a problem witht the apple server?

Last night it took 8 hours to download two t.v. show, and today it says it will take 8 hours to download the lastest upgrade to ITunes.  Is there a problem with the apple server?  I am not having problems downloading from any other web site and i have excellent wireless strength and a very fast download servive from Verizon.

Are you going over Wi-Fi or do you have an ethernet cable plugged in to the ATV?  If ethernet, unplug it and reconnect the ATV using Wi-Fi and re-run the update.  There is a known bug regarding updating the ATV with ethernet, using Wi-Fi fixes it.  I had this problem on my brand new ATV and after searching the web I found this resolution, and it worked.  After the update (which took about 20 minutes total) the ATV rebooted itself, I then shut it down, reconnected with my ethernet cable, and now all is well.

Multiple Apple IDs (2) with Purchases & iTunes Match. Apple TV Purchases. Not happy to have to log in/out to view and enjoy my Purchase Contest. What's the solution?

    Hi
i ran into the same problem. surprisingly though, i am not using multiple apple id and just one mac.
i did change both the account (apple id) and the computer (from pc to a mac server), but home sharing is on and the apple tv (1) is synced with the new computer.
i can connect to the itunes store and browse through it (signed in at all times). i cannot purchase any content and cannot play transferred rentals from the computer (apple tv is not authorised...)
somehow, it seems the apple tv was stuck with a previous id.
i have just now re-authorised my computer on the account and will give the apple tv another try. i did notice a message during the re-authorisation process. the apple tv is being authorised. this gives me hope.
in any case, your setup seems to be a dream come through. i decided to phase out my high end multiroom linn kivor system (over 20k back 6y ago) to an itunes based system. apparently you managed to build something.
i tried an itunes based nas but gave up due to complex operation (and overheating on top) and went for a mac server. i will be using windows clients though.
most of my content is cd based. can you sync purchased content between pc's? or with a server?

There is no such thing as an "unlock code" for an iPhone. It's done through iTunes after being approved by the carrier it is locked to.
Go back to the carrier it is locked to and find out what the status is. If you paid someone else to unlock it, you got ripped off.

  • IPhone update:  "Cannot connect to Apple Server"

First time I got that message when I tried to update the iPhone software!   iTunes works fine, all downloads and updates.  Used the iTunes connectivity tests, all worked fine.  My security software and all setting haven't changed.  Nothing's changed.  Sync works fine.  When I plugged in my iPhone and started iTunes, it said an update is available, but then when I click update, it tries to connect to the server but then I get the message "cannot connect to apple server."  Help!  Thx

I disagree with the above two posts.  It is probably the same issue as  described here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17784700#17784700
Try adjusting the DNS servers on your PC to 8.8.8.8 and then trying it.
Edit: another post with the same problem/solution: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3789415?tstart=0
