ITunes U playlist on my iPod video

I feel like this is a really dumb question, but...well...here it is. I've downloaded and synched a bunch of iTunes U content. But on my iPod it shows up as just another playlist, and all of the content is unceremoniously dumped into that single playlist.
I can't tell which podcast goes with which course, or in what order, or anything.
And I can't find a setting to organize it properly, or make it show up as a podcast (like it used to).
I updated my software (iTunes and iPod). What on earth am I missing?

No. This problem is not "Solved". same problem here. This seems obvious it is an iOS 4 issue given the start dates of this and other threads. The workarounds are just that and should be temporary until this bug is fixed. We don't pay the Apple premium for kluges like manually changing the media kind on each iTunes U file as it comes in on so basic a problem. Apple?
The problem is not iOS 4, which supports iTunes U just fine, but rather that, having introduced the iTunes U feature into iTunes they didn't either issue firmware updates to add a corresponding section into all older iPods or simply make iTunes change the media type to podcast on-the-fly during sync as it copies items to the device. Of course it's not too late for either of these approaches but the fact that it has been ignored for so long already suggests nothing will happen now.

  • One or Two ITunes Account?  -- Own both iPod Video & iPhone 3GS

    Hi
I've just bought an iPhone 3GS (this is my first iPhone, so everything is new to me). I also own an iPhone video, which I bought a couple of years ago. My question is, do I need to set up two different iTunes accounts (i.e. a new a/c for my iPhone, separately from the a/c I've been using for my iPod video)? I cannot imagine using the same account for two different devices... maybe it's possible, I don't know. I have lots of podcast downloads and also movies on my iPod video account. I'm afraid of messing it up. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have one account and an iPhone, an iPod Touch, and 4 other iPods. iTunes recognizes each as a separate device and I can select the sync options I want for each. I don't do any manual management. I select the playlists I want on each device.

  • ITunes - Connecting more than 1 IPod Video

If there are 2 IPod videos owned - a 30gb and 80gb, how can you prevent Ipod 30gb from updating with all the material in the ITunes Library Downloaded / Imported for IPod 80gb and vice versa? the owners have different music tastes and don't want the others music on their own IPod.

    Hi Trekker,
You can set preferences in iTunes to synchronise your iPods manually rather than automatically:
To set iTunes to let you manage music and video on iPod manually:
1 In iTunes, select iPod in the Source pane and click the Summary tab.
2 In the Options section, select “Manually manage music and video.”
    3 Click Apply.
Note: When you manage songs and video yourself, you must always eject iPod from
    iTunes before you disconnect it.
To add a song, video, or other item to iPod:
1 In the iTunes Source pane, click Music or another Library item.
2 Drag a song or other item to the iPod icon in the Source pane.
To remove a song, video, or other item from iPod:
1 In iTunes, select iPod in the Source pane.
2 Select a song or other item on iPod and press the Delete or Backspace key on your
    keyboard.
If you manually remove a song or other item from iPod, it is not deleted from your
    iTunes library.
To make a new playlist on iPod:
1 In iTunes, select iPod in the Source pane, and then click the Add button or choose
    File > New Playlist.
2 Type a name for the playlist.
3 Click an item, such as Music, in the Library list, and then drag songs or other items to
    the playlist.
To add songs to or remove songs from a playlist on iPod:
m Drag a song to a playlist on iPod to add the song. Select a song in a playlist and press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the song.
I copied that from the manual - hope that helps!

  • Getting this weird message when connecting to itunes w/my 5th G Ipod Video

Hi was wondering if anyone has encountered this. I just purchased this ned 5G Ipod video connected to my itunes 7.0.1 and worked fine. While I am downloading video podcasts I got this error saying that Itunes has detected and ipod in recovery mode and that I have to restore before I can use Itunes. I did and it reset and I still get the same error message. I tried the 5RS and they do not seem to work either. Any ideas?

Already did at least 5 times.I also folowed the video link you sent me (thank you) and noticed that instructions are different for windows OS!! For windows I am actually instructed to keep the ipod connected until it shows up on itunes. This is when I get the same error I got prior to restoring (ipod in recovery mode). When I press ok it says do not disconnect on the Ipod display.
BTW I cannot see my ipod in my computer either.

  • ITunes can't read my iPod Video 5th Generation

    Hey guys,
So my iPod was messed up for a while back, but I managed to reset/restore it so it's basically at a clean slate. Now when I plug it into my computer, it shows the normal "Do not disconnect." screen and it even shows up on My Computer.
The problem is: iTunes can't read it. It shows nothing on the side panel of iTunes. I tried doing all the device manager things and everything seems to be good. I have an iPod Nano 3rd Generation and it works perfectly well on my iTunes when I plug it in.
Any suggestions on how to get my iTunes to read my iPod Video 5th generation?

    Watcha,
I haven't had any of these problems yet, but getting ready to download the newer version of Itunes. I have a HP Pavilion PC-based laptop with Windows 7, and also an IPOD Video 5th Gen. So I really hope I won't get any problems. Sorry I didn't have any solutions and hope your problems were solved.

  • ITunes doesn't see my iPod video 30 gb! Please help me!

When i connect by usb 2.0 my iPod, the pc see the iPod as an external drive and It seems to be empty, while iTunes says that there isn't any iPod connected. The latest iPod software is installed. Opening the iPod while it isn't connected to the pc, there isn't any file but in the settings is written that almost 10 gb are full and 20 gb are free: this should be ok because before that these problems appeared that was the memory used. Of course I can't update the iPod or reset it to default because the iPod updater doesn't see any iPod connected to the pc while it is really connected... Well, windows sees my iPod while iTunes doesn't see it so i can't make any operation on the iPod and when it isn't connected to the pc i can't listen to the music... Please sombody help me!

  • ITunes does not see my iPod Video 60gb

I just recently bought a Powermac G4 AGP off eBay and installed Panther on it. I re-initialized my iPod for Mac format on my wifes iBook (the G4 said I needed to use firewire to do it, even though the iPod doesn't support firewire). I used the latest iPod updater, downloaded today and installed the latest iTunes revision. Anyway, Plugging the iPod into my G4 shows the iPod on the desktop but doesn't auto-launch iTunes. When I launch iTunes, the iPod doesn't show up in the list. It seems it's in disk mode since I can double-click it's icon on the desktop and see the Calenders and Contacts folder, etc. Anyone know why iTunes won't see it? Thanks.
    Dave

I would start by reading the iPod 5 Rs and see if what is suggested there helps.

  • My Computer and Itunes won't recognize my iPod Video

I've just recently gotten a replacement iPod because my other one had a click wheel problem... as I was trying to register my new one iTunes doesn't recognize it and neither does my computer... but it shows that it's charging... Please help!

FIrst make sure you have iTUnes version 6.0.5.20 by going to help>about. If not install it from apple.com Make sure you have the latest ipod updater 06-28-2006, if not download and install it here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Now WITH THE IPOD DISCONNECTED, out it in disk mode http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 open the ipod updater (In start>all programs>ipod) THEN connect the ipod and hit "Restore"

  • Does anyone know a converter from the new iTunes TV/movie file type to one that will work on my 5th generation iPod video?

I just tried to load some new TV shows from my iTunes onto my 5th generation iPod video and it says the video format is not supported. I currently have dozens of TV shows and movies on the iPod, I just wanted to put some new stuff on there. So I need to know if there is anyway of converting the new iTunes video format into one that will run on my 5th generation iPod.
    Thnaks in advanced.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • Using iPOD video and Nano on one PC

Need help. I just got a 60 gb iPOD video and have been using iTunes on my PC for my Nano. If I download videos from the iTunes Music Store for my iPOD Video, will it cause a problem when I later plug in my Nano to update? I.E., is there a way for me to use my same iTunes library for both the iPOD Video and iPOD Nano without the Nano crashing because of the video content? Sorry, I'm new to this. I appreciate anyone's help. Thanks.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library and in the case of the Nano you will not have a problem with videos as it is not designed to use them. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually. With the first option it will update everything. With the second option only the tracks in the selected playlists (rather than the entire music library) are downloaded to iPod when you connect. With the manual update option, you manage what goes into your iPod by dragging and dropping selected songs or playlists into iPod:
    Loading songs onto iPod automatically
    Managing content manually on iPod

  • IPod Music Library "Greyed Out" in iTunes when I plug my iPod in... help!

Hi... not sure how to explain this, so I'll do my best... if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!
When I plug my video iPod into iTunes via USB, I can see all of the songs in my iPod's music library in iTunes, but they are all "greyed out." The songs in my iTunes are fine and can be accessed, but when I look in the iPod's music library in iTunes, all of the songs show up but are inaccessible. Any ideas??? I'd really appreciate any help!

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
