Itunes unable to open because of audio configuration

I recently installed windows updates for XP as well as itunes updates. Ever since then I receive the following message: "itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration." I tried to repair itunes as well as reinstall itunes with the new version and I still get the same message. I also reviewed my audio config in windows and nothing is different from before. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thanks!

    What should I do?

that's typically caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)

Oh, you do have the C2D! That's great!
I'm no technical expert, I just like to help out whenever or wherever I can so... I don't know if this can help you, but let me tell you about how I got my Snow Leopard to run in 64 bit mode. When I got my (late 2008) iMac it was running in 32 bit mode under Tiger (2.4 GHz/Core 2 Duo). I eventually upgraded to Snow Leopard & it was running in 32 bit mode (by default) w/1 GB RAM.
Somewhere along the line, I happened to watch a YouTube Video that showed how to upgrade an iMac's RAM, so I ordered two - 2GB sticks of Crucial RAM and then - under the guidance of the 14 or 15 year-old young man who posted the video on YouTube; wearing a rather fashionable static-electricity-neutralizer-wrist-strap, I removed 1GB of RAM & plugged in the 4GBs of RAM. So - boom like that, it was like I bought a brand new machine.
It was over a year later when I stumbled across a way to boot Snow Leopard into 64 bit mode. Turns out that if you boot while holding down the 6 & 4 key combo (the ones above the QWERTY keys), then the machine runs in 64 bit mode. Go figure. Now my Snow Leopard and just about all of my applications - with the ironic exception of iTunes - runs in 64 bit. iTunes seems fine though; if there's a performance bottleneck, I really can't tell.
    Well, that's about it..
I hope that something I've mentioned can help you achieve your overall goal.
Finally, it's hard to jump onto a train, a large cat, or a surfboard that's already moving. But don't be surprised when someone a fraction of your age shows you how to.

  • ITunes Won't Open Because of Quicktime

I have a computer with Windows 7 Pro and I can't get iTunes to work correctly on it.  I was getting an error message that was saying that iTunes couldn't open because Quicktime wasn't installed.  However, quicktime is installed and working properly.  I've uninstalled everything related to apple and reinstalled it, and after doing that, iTunes worked, but today I started getting the same error message.  I'm not sure what the issue is because there doesn't seem to be an issue with Quicktime.

I'm going through the SAME ****. I install Itunes and quicktime seems to go ok until the end of the installation and then all **** breaks loose. Some error comes up saying that I can't install it. THEN It says the installation finished successfully. So I click finish and what happends now is that it specifies that I need to update my quicktime to open itunes... I dont care about Quicktime, i want itunes to work, anyone have a link to an older STANDALONE version of itunes? Where you don't need quicktime?

  • My itunes wont open, because of audio configeration?

Since iTunes uses QuickTime to play audio/video content in iTunes, that error message most likely indicates that there's a problem with Quicktime installation.

  • Itunes starts but fails to open due to audio configuration problem

    Hi
I have been running itunes 7.1 quite successfully until today. Running on windows xp/toshiba laptop.
Problem occurs when i select itunes on desktop, itunes appears on task bar below, after a number of seconds the following error message appears "itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration", once I click ok on this message itunes terminates.
No changes have been made to my audio configuration (to the best of my knowledge), i can run Windows Media Player and that works fine, so too real player.
I reinstalled itunes, but this did not resolve the problem. I also ran itunes from another logon on my laptop and that presented the same error. I checked all my audio settings in the control panel and also ran the diagnostics on each device and all appears to be fine.
Has anybody faced the same issue, and could anybody advise on any diagnistic tool that could assist in pinpointing the configuration problem?.
    Thanks

    Hi
Got it resolved, thanks for the prompt responses all!.
Resolved by removal current version of Quicktime thru the control panel (add/remove programs), and then reinstalled from the website.
    Phew!

  • HT5654 when I go to my Itunes update I am unable to open because of the message MSVCR80 is missing...which is why I am doing the research...to discover how to recover the missing file.

I keep getting the familiar message "MSVCR80  file is missing...I have read that the most recent update of I-tunes around January had a compatibility issue with Windows 7.  Consequently the updates did not load properly.  I am unable to open my I-Tunes Updates because of this stated file missing.  Like a dog chasing its own tail.     I have seen several suggestions including copying my I-Tunes tunes and totally dumping I-Tunes and all related files then downloading it as new. I also read that I may cause other programs to have issues  as some files are shared across programs/apps and so removing ALL of I-Tunes can cause loss of operation of other apps .  Can anyone verify the latter and assist with the initial problem of getting rid of the message regarding MSVCR80 with a good and lasting fix?

  • Itunes can't run bc of audio configuration problem

Well I've been using itunes for about 2 years now and just recently i installed the newer version. It was working fine until today when my computer told me ther was some kind of computer error and that i should do a system restore. So i did a restore to about 2 weeks ago which was before i updated my itunes. And then i was getting the message that my itunes was missing files and could not run. So i ran a repair on it and still got the same error. Then I deleted it adn reinstalled and I got the error "Itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration.
So then I undid the system restore and tried itunes to see if it would work. And I was still getting the same message that itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration. So then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still getting the same message.
Can someone help me out? What problem would it be with my audio configuration? I haven't changed anything. Is there something i can adjust to fix the problem? I'm clueless....

the message is typically produced by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)
perhaps let's start with the following document:
iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes had detected an audio configuration problem
... but if no joy there, try this alternate technique for swapping out your QuickTime:
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • ITunes doesn't launch - problems with audio configuration

I have tried launching iTunes but every time I have tried opening it the following error message appears, "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration". I have never had a problem opening iTunes until the last couple of days. Any ideas?
