Itunes unexpedly closes when i try to sync

I have an iphone and ipods. I have tried several times to sync each one and every time I get to step 2 or 3 out of 7 or 8 and then itunes "quits unexpedly" please help this is really frustrating! thank you!

Basically, its removing everything to do with the old iTunes preferences (from the new update), and then going back to the previous iTunes setup, your files etc are all still there, you are then just reinstalling a fairly old version of iTunes, 10.5

Thanks for the info, anyway i just tried all of the options it gave me and its no good. It seems to be only in my account, since I could sync it in my sisters account. The only way to gat an older copy of iTunes is through a third party site. Try to Google some. Hope this helps.

I restarted itunes and tried again (based on a similar question/solution from 2012).
I don't get the error message anymore, but it's really sort of odd that after step one of sync, it looks as if sync stopped, and then all of a sudden you see step 4 of sync.
Also before the upgrade I had 7+ gigs of space free and after the upgrade I have 10 gigs free. seems like something is amiss, but it's not like I have anyway of determining that.

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

If your phone is jailbroken, we can't help you, as already stated.
If you're new to this and you're trying to download apps to put on your phone and it is NOT jailbroken, you can't do that.
You must go through the iTunes app store.

Itunes encounters an error and closes when I try to sync pictures

When I try to sync pictures to my itouch itunes encounters an error and shuts down. I have the itouch attached to the computer and my settings are to get pictures from file folder. I have done all the updates and have searched the support discussions for some ideas, but have had no lock. All the software is current. Any help would be greatly appriecated.

That would be an unusual error message to be getting if you were having a problem with a photo cache ... but just in case ...
Try deleting your iTunes photo cache, as per the following document:

... can you get a photo sync to go through without the crash after that?

This error message shows up on my computer when I try to sync. I do have iTunes on my laptop and on my desktop. Could this be the problem? I already backed up my iPod. You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library. If you sync the iPod to another library, such as another computer, iTunes will erase the iPod.
Just continue to sync with the other computer.

yesterday i downloaded the most recent version of itunes. i successfully synced my ipod the first time. but now when i try to sync my ipod, itunes freezes up and eventually quits sync-ing.
i've restored my ipod twice, but it hasn't helped -- each time i trying to sync the ipod, it will begin the process, but freeze after 7-30 songs of 2200.
and now i just tried to scroll through my ipod songs to see how many were actually there, and it froze up.

I'm having an similar problem after updating to iTunes 7.1.1.5, Windows XP. I'm using a 3rd Gen 40G iPod. I have reinstalled iTunes several times and restored the iPod so that all data in it has been erased. When I try to synch the iPod to iTunes, first of all it copies very slowly, and then, it will fail after about seven or eight songs and I get the error message that the synch failed due to an unknown cause (error -124). I am able to eject the iPod and iTunes appears to work correctly. I've tried this several times and the same error keeps occurring.
