ITunes Update broke index - Need to recover music - Apple No Help
We have our music on an external drive and downloaded music on the local drive along with iTunes. A recent update to iTunes (last two weeks) seems to have lost the external drive setting then started migrating music (instead on pointers) to the local drive. It also seems to have changed the index to point to the local drive for all music where there is not enough room so the pointers do not match the data.
Solution - fix 2500 songs 1 by 1. Bleahhhhhhh!!!!!!
Reimport does not work.
I already have 6 hours wasted on fixing the problem created by the updated software. And I have gotten nowhere except to frustrate myself.
Do I have to delete all music, redownload the purchased files and then reimport the 200 albums. That is, spend about 50 hours fixing a bug Apple sent out and will not comment on without being paid?
Apple will only respond to the problem with a $30 service call to "possibly" fix the bad update they sent out.
What has happend is not clear from your post.
When you talk about migrating music do you mean iTunes has been copying music from your external drive to your c: drive?
This could happen if your iTunes Music folder is in My Music\iTunes on the c:drive and you either selected "consolidate library..." on the advanced menu or you tried to add music on the external drive to your library and had "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked in your preferences.
You can check the location of your iTunes Music fodler in "Edit>Prefernce>Advanced>General.
These problems are difficult to deal with from a distance without precise information about how you have your iTunes set up and what you have done.

I had to restore all the files on my pc using carbonite. I reinstalled iTunes and was able to find my music with the help of Apple support. How do I find my podcasts?
This helped, I restored them, but when I go to iTunes they are not there. Is there another step?

Latest iTunes update caused static and skips in music
I'm not quite sure how to check what update I last did, but ever since I did it, my music has had a static sound and skips on occasion. I know my friend who also does not have a Mac is experiencing the same thing and I'm wondering if it's connected to the latest update.
There is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues - including problems with Bluetooth devices - that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer). The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).
Another possible remedy relates to a potential clash between the 64-bit version of iTunes 12 and Google Chrome; some users have reported that uninstalling Chrome (not just not having it running) resolves the iTunes playback issues without having to install the alternative version referred to above.

Ipod nano stuck in recovery mode, NEED TO RECOVER MUSIC OFF
I have an ipod 4th gen, and it is stuck in recovery mode and it says do not disconect. I need to recover the music off of it to my pc.
If it went into recovery mode then the music is already gone.

As consequence of my update to iTunes 6 from the previous versions all links to my songs are broken ("the original file cannot be found"). They have always been and still are on an external hard drive (E:\). Are the links lost completely or can one try to restore all of them by pointing iTunes to the right directory without doing "Add file to library..." (reason: there are way more files in the directory than I want in iTunes...).

You'll have to add them singly, if there are a lot you don't want to add to iTunes. Or you could add them all then delete the unwanted ones from iTunes. -
My phone is stuck in the middle of an itunes update... it will not reset or return to main screen. Can anyone help?

The iPhones are recognized by the computer (and can backup to the cloud), but on connection, nothing happens with iTunes.
With the iPods I get the not-very-helpful message:

An iPod had been detected, but could not be identified properly.
Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.

On clicking More Info, I am presented with 10 steps to take.
I have done every single one of these steps, with the following added bonuses: each time I have carried out any of the steps, I have disconnected the device; disconnected the leads; turned off the device; I have also uninstalled iTunes and installed 'the latest version'; I have restarted the computer, connected the device with brand new cables (the iPods require two different Apple cables: have tried both old and new versions of each).
Nothing I can do will make iTunes want to talk to these devices. It all worked perfectly up until the latest v. of iTunes.
I am perfectly prepared to insert a new HD into the computer, build a new version of the station (either Win8, Win7, XP .... even Vista to make my day even worse), but feel that this is a little extreeme!
Am I alone in this Apple-strewn myre?I kept working at this after posting. On the sync page for the ipod on itunes library I chose to remove the iPods association with my old computer. It erased all the old content from the old computer and then put all my checked songs from the new computer on my iPod nano.

Itunes update 12.0.1 causing crackling music on playback.
I updated my itunes with the new 12.0.1 update. I started playing music and noticed weird crackling in the playback of songs, not unbearable static just odd crackling noises that you can easily notice and ruin the music experience. Sometimes the crackling is worst then other times. I checked my speakers they were fine and also played my music through Windows Media Player and it was also perfectly fine and clear. What could this be?

New Itunes update "can not locate file" for music videos
Every music video I have ever purchased is gone! WHat the heck happened? Everything I have purchased before the recent 10... update is no longer in my library. The vidoes are still on the devices (IPad, Iphone, and Itouch) but not in the library. I have tried to transfer purchase from these devices and the videos do not transfer. The two videos purchased after the update are the only ones there our 100+ videos and movies. Anyone have any ideas? IMy computer is a WIndows 7 64bit based operating system.

In iTunes, are you looking for your music under Library> Music, in the left bar?
You can't play music from your iPad thru iTunes. If you select your iPad in iTunes, then click the disclosure triangle, then select, say a playlist, the contents of that playlist will show up in the main window, but will be displayed grey and can't be double-clicked to play. So I don't understand what you mean.
On the iTunes Summary page for your iPad, do you have Manually manage music and videos checked on? -
Latest iTunes update broke my iPod 3rd gen connection
Recently, iTunes decided to send an update to break my iPod connection. Well, it worked. It broke any connection to iTunes, as well as my system.
I have;
- tried resetting the iPod. (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363)
- UnInstalled -ALL- Apple software
- Re-Installed iTunes
Result - iPod shows connected on the iPod, but not in Windows.
What else can I try??

Latest iTunes update broke Nano 7G detection/sync
The latest update to iTunes (v11.3.0.54) for PC has broken my ability to connect my Nano 7G and sync.
First let me give you the conditions.
I have 2 PCs. Both are running Windows 8.1 with all Windows updates installed. PC 1 is my main desktop and I recently updated iTunes to the latest version, 11.3.0.54. PC 2 is a laptop that is still running v.11.2.2.3. After the update I attempted to connect my Nano to PC 1 and was given this error message.
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again"
After clicking OK, the iPod does not appear to be detected or connected to iTunes. It also does not show up in My Computer as an attached device, and does not show up in Device Manager as either a USB device or Portable device.
At first I thought I had just broken the Nano, but I attempted to connect it to PC 2 running the earlier version of iTunes and it works 100% perfectly. I have indeed tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes multiple times, rolling back to an earlier version on PC 1 (which won't load due to the library file being modified by the later version) and then upgrading again. I have tried connecting on multiple USB ports and used 2 different USB/Lightning cables. All work fine with PC 2 running the older version, none work with PC 1 running the latest. I have tried doing a reset of the Nano while disconnected and connected. Both fail.
Again the iPod worked fine before the update and still works fine on a PC with an identical operating system/updates running an earlier version of iTunes. Is this something I can fix myself? How? Or is it something I will just have to wait for Apple to patch?Hello joejoehoppy,

Latest iTunes update moved some (but not all) Music Videos to Film catalogue.
iTunes has moved 1 of my music videos (Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.) to Films so now it appears in my film list instead of my music list. It had somehow changed some of the detils to match one of the films in my Films list (Simon Peggs 'Paul') including it's name (at first I though it had just replaced Pauls image with one from the Gorrilaz song).
Going into the Get Info menu option to change file types from Film to Music Video is impossible as the 'media kind' dropbox is set to 'Film' and greyed out.
I've tried deleting and re-downloading it from iTunes but it puts it in the same place. Any ideas how to get this to move back to the music list?
I've noticed that a lot (although, not all) of the music that I've purchased through iTunes is now duplicated (with a cloud download icon) and was wondering if it was related to this?Sign out of the store, sign back in again.
