ITunes update causes program to lock up.

I just updated iTunes on a windows 7 64 bit system and it now locks up half way into playing a song, or 5 songs into copying a CD to my library.  I never had any challenges with this until this update.  I am going to try to re-install, but wondering if the new version has a bug.

Found the resolution to the problem.   Follow this thread...https://discussions.apple.com/message/16803836#16803836

  • CS3 Updates cause programs to not work with Windows 7?

Has anyone else had their programs stop working after an Adobe update was installed?  Although I have been told by 5 different Adobe staff members that CS3 is "not at all compatible" with Windows 7...it somehow worked on two machines for 6 months.  Then a recent Adobe update caused it to not work.  I could understand if it never worked with Windows 7, but it stopped working after Adobe's update.  I am sure that Adobe has the resources to test their updates on Windows 7 machines and would have found this problem.  What would make them proceed with giving their customers this update...hmmm maybe the release of CS5???
I also asked if they could send me a CD (since I chose a download) of the original CS3 suite without the updates and they told me that they don't have any.  Really??? Adobe doesn't have any copies of a program that is only 3 years old?

Try this page to download a copy of the original...

  • Itunes update causing weird problem for apple tv streaming songs

In itunes 10.5 when I choose apple tv as the external speaker and send songs through it plays the song and displays the cover of the album, title, song, name, and artist on the tv screen.  When I updated to 10.5.1 it does the same except that after the first song the cd cover is one behind what is playing.  For the sake of clarity, say I start the streaming songs on random play.  The first three songs might be "Misty" by Kate Bush, "Rolling Along" by Lucinda Williams, and then "The Foggy Foggy Dew" by Greg Brown.  When the first song plays it will be correct.  "Misty" will be playing, Kate Bush will be displayed as the artist and the cover of the Kate Bush album will be showing.  But when the next song comes on it will be playing "Rolling Along", Lucinda Williams will be displayed as the artist but the Kate Bush album cover will be displayed.  Then the next song comes on "The Foggy Foggy Dew" will be playing, Greg Brown will be displayed as the artist but the Lucinda Wililams cover will be displayed.  And so on.
I've experimented with it and feel certain it is the itunes update.  I still have version 10.5 on my laptop and that is working normally.  It is only the computer that I updated to 10.5.1 on that his having this weird thing occur.
    Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem.  Thanks for describing it so accurately.  My Apple TV underwent a software update last evening, but the problem remains.  Will be anxious to know when a fix has been applied.

  • ITunes update causing error messages

    Hi all.
This is my first time posting, please forgive any faux pas.
I installed the new update from itunes.
It would not install and told me there was a problem, but i did not write down the problem. I restarted the computer in the hope i could fix it with a tweak.
However i then received the APSDaemon.exe System error.  The programme can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from the computer. Try reinstalling the programme to fix this problem.
I uninstalled iTunes, tried reinstalling but keep getting  a message to check my privileges.
I have done a sfc/scannow, in command prompt in safe mode and normal mode, which is not showing any problems.
Used the MS fixit tool to completely uninstall iTunes, tried reinstalling, still the same message.
i seem to have followed all the advice advertised under the APSDaemon.exe. error messages.
Restarted, 4 more attempts and installing with the admin message. I am using the admin account to do all of this in.
It has now been 3 days since it happened and i still cannot find a cure.
I have had suggestions to plug my phone into the pc in the hope it may resolve the issue, but i am worried in case it mucks up the phone as well.
There seem to be a lot of people who have suffered the problem but most of the recommended actions have not helped resolve my issue.
( it could be me i guess).
    Thanks for any help offered.

    Me again.
I have spent all day working on this problem.
I have finally fixed it by myself!!
As no one responded to my plight, and in case anyone else has the same problem, here is how (i think) i sorted it.
The only way that i could reinstall iTunes successfully was to go into the control panel and under publisher uninstall each and every item that had an Apple inc. name by it.
After reinstalling it, i had to then download quicktime etc and reinstall that too.
Hopefully when i restart the computer all will be ok.
If not i will be back.
    Thanks anyway

  • ITunes update caused my iPhone to FAIL. I was only wishing to connect to my pc iTunes, then I was told I could upgrade to the latest iTunes for the mobile. Bad idea! I'm abroad, and now I'm stuck in grey screen-- how can I get my iPhone back?

Please help me, I am verging on desperation! I am flying tomorrow, so I was only trying to add some music to my iPhone.
During the process, connected to the latest version of iTunes for Windows, I was asked a seemingly innocent question-- would you like to
update your iTunes for iPhone?  If only I could go back and ignore this question,
But no, I am now stuck in purgatory-- no use of iPhone, at al! -- the upgrade FAILED. Perhaps because I'm in Asia? At any rate,
I was told that I needed to reformat my phone to factory settings (losing all data!) That was the info on the pc. My phone would ONLY display
a phone cord pointing to iTunes (beckoning to connect), but I was connected to the pc already. So I had to click to reformat.
There was no other option, I browsed tha forums, was semi-assured that iCloud would help back me up. I heard about iTools,
but that also proved a dead end.  My phone ended up in this grey screen, where choices are limited. They originally asked if I wanted to connect
with iTunes, but I chose WIFI. I tried many times to "activate" the phone this way, and it always fails. ( I wanted to try activating through
iTunes, but I can't go back to that original option. At times "Connect with iTunes" is only very briefly shown, but disappers before I can select
    it.)
Every time I'm left with the message "Your iPhone (failed) bec. the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting phone to iTunes"
    But HOW?

    Why did you disconnect it?
You will have to restore it.
Your data is gone if you failed to make sure it was on your computer before updating, as you always should you.

  • New Itunes update causing Ipod crashes

Since installing 10.6, Itunes has now regularly crashed when my Ipod is plugged in, leading me to have to force quit after giving it ample time to right itself (which it never does). This of course has wiped my ipod down, even tho DiskWarrior and Disk Utility recognize the drive, tell me its ok, and has the correct number of files, etc. But whenever i try and open Itunes, it crashes, tells me my Ipod is corrupt and needs to be restored, which I do. Then it works fine for a while, but then a day or so later I will plug it in and kapoof, nothing on my ipod, itunes hangs up, and so on. Its been going on for a couple weeks now, and I have tried rolling back to Itunes 10.2 which I have on my Time Machine backup, but it makes it laborious as I have to import the text files of my playlists one at a time, and being that i have a hundred or so playlists, i just give up.
I have done all the permissions correcting, rebuilt directory on my ipod, done various wipes of the drive, and so on, and I am out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem or any solutions?

meh. i am tired of itunes. there is my solution. uninstalling it once and for all, as it is a memory hog and has always given me problems when i update it, and so forth. never had these kinds of issues with it, but i need my music and need to be able to listen to it, so that's my solution. thanks.

  • Latest iTunes update caused static and skips in music

I'm not quite sure how to check what update I last did, but ever since I did it, my music has had a static sound and skips on occasion. I know my friend who also does not have a Mac is experiencing the same thing and I'm wondering if it's connected to the latest update.

There is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues - including problems with Bluetooth devices - that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).
Another possible remedy relates to a potential clash between the 64-bit version of iTunes 12 and Google Chrome; some users have reported that uninstalling Chrome (not just not having it running) resolves the iTunes playback issues without having to install the alternative version referred to above.
Finally, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • Update causing programs to stop responding when loading

I wasn't sure what forum to put this so i I put it here...
anyway, I recently updated my OSX with the newest update and now I'm having a ton of problems. My computer seems to be running slower but more importantly several of my programs will stop responding while they're loading up. This includes the two I can't live without: InDesign CS and Microsoft Word. I'm a student in graphic design so these are SUPER important to me.
I've tried quitting all other programs, or even having my linotype fontexplorer open (it seemed to have worked once but not anymore).
I really don't know what to do! Is there a way to maybe uninstall updates? because my system was perfectly fine before @_@
    please help!!!

Hi clemmontine, it was good you were able to isolate the issue to fonts. I don't think the issue is number of fonts but it's possible that one or more of them got corrupted.
If you have a copy of all the fonts in ~/library/fonts then just drag the fonts in the folder to the trash and drag your backup back in. Restart and retry your apps.
If not, you need to test the fonts a group at time (if your feeling lucky go for half of them on the first go).
You can also do this through FontBook.

  • Itunes Updates cause album problems

Why is it when you update your itunes library, it doubles up all the album songs so you have to spend an eternity deleting all the doubled songs because it uses twice the memory.
Any help would greatly be appreciated as this is very annoying and totally unnecessary.

I had posted in the printing forum, but no one responded. Your post was far more helpful than anything I've seen. I wasn't aware that the security updates messed with the printer drivers, which is a bit frustrating.
I will see what I can find.
    Thanks
That last security update enforced already-existing security police, called PIE as in Apple PIE
It stands for "Position-Independent Executables" which makes apps begin in different places in RAM each time the start so a hacker can't easily find it. Older software that is not written/compiled to use this feature will now not work or at least not work correctly. Leopard has always had PIE, and to give SW vendors some time to update, did not enforce it until this latest update.
My Epson printers and scanner continue to work properly. Updating your drivers/software will most likely solve your problem.
Maybe this forum is the best place for printer answers ????

  • With Windows Vista, the most recent Itunes update 1/30/2014 has caused Itunes not to work, with a Mscvr80.dll not found error. Uninstalled all Apple programs, and installed fresh Itunes. Same problem. Tried to reinstall using an older install exe nogo

Recent ITunes update has caused ITunes not to work. Tried uninstalling all Apple products and reinstalling fresh. Still doesn't work. Tried reinstalling from an old install.exe. Install went nicely but program won't start as it says it can't open the library file.

Now that I have no way of accessing any of the products I have purchased from ITunes, I will most certainly never use ITunes again for any reason. Why throw good money after bad?  I will use another MP3 player that is not as cumbersome or proprietary.
    Lesson learned.

Can anyone help me? The iTunes update corrupted my program. I uninstalled, and then reinstalled iTunes; only to find an error message about iTunes Helper. After several fruitless, repeat attempts, I am at a loss. Please help…

    Many thanks.
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes 7.3.2 and security 1.0 updates cause Airport

Updated to iTunes 7.3.2 and installed security fix 1.0 Rebooted fine, but now my Appletv no longer appears in iTunes and neither does airport express network. Base station can not be detected in the Airport admin utility.
Everything was working fine before the update. The AppleTV is an Airport issue I guess.
Anyone have any ideas on whether its the security fix or itunes update thats causing this? Have tried reinstalling iTunes 7.3.1 but no change.

No, I hadn't tried creating a new user identity, but I just gave it a try. No luck. In fact, no calendar items at all would sync from that user identity (neither ones that I create nor ones--such as holidays--that Outlook adds itself). Furthermore, sync finishes very quickly, even if I import all of my "real" account's calendar items into the test account.
So, I assume something else is wrong relative to the test account, but I can't find it. I don't see any interesting events in the system or application log. The "iTunes Outlook add-in" is active within Outlook. (By the way, as of iTunes 7.3.2.6, after I removed and reinstalled Apple Mobile Device support, the other addin, "Outlook iTunes sync add-in," appears to be gone. Indeed, the OutlookSyncClient.dll file that used to be in c:\program files\common files\... is now an executable, so the deployment architecture has changed a bit.)
I ended up with an empty iPhone calendar using the new test account. When I switched back to my real account, reset the sync history and replaced all calendar items, the iPhone calendar was restored to its usual incomplete state.

    Hello jh901,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you have not been able to update the iPhone. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Latest update causing problems with my itunes update on my computer,

Have had to delete itunes on my computer to try to get this update to upload. I cannot even access an earlier version.  I have tried everything from uninstalling to cleaning my hard drive and still it will not install.

ITunes update 11.1.4 would not install and I received the following error message.
"The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem".
A temporary solution was to restore my system to a date before the 11.1.4 update was applied.
This worked and I was again able to use iTunes except that synchronisation between iTunes, my iphone and ipad was frustrated. I received an message to the effect that “you need to turn on synchronisation in isync preferences before you can sync contacts and calendars.”
Further research on these boards revealed that this problem too was apparently caused by the Apple update could only be resolved by installing the latest version of iTunes i.e. 11.1.4
Thus  a clean install of iTunes 11.1.4 was obviously necessary for complete functionality.
Thus I followed the procedures detailed by Turingtest2 here
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6562
I carefully deleted all of the Apple related programs and folders I could find as suggested.
I had problems deleting Apple Mobile Device Support.  I eventually managed it though by variously
using CONT-ALT-DEL  to enter Task Manager and then Processes and then halted(ended) any Apple process I was able to find.  It eventually deleted but not without a struggle!
I then performed a clean installation as described ensuring I right clicked on the download and selected Run as Administrator.
Itunes 11.1.4 was then installed with no loss of previously downloaded material – books music etc.
Not impressed with this Apple update at all…… a seemingly very cavalier approach to customer care.

Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

Please let me know how things are going.
    Cheers!
