  • Newest itunes update deleted my entire library and playlists.

Im extremely unsatisfied, so could you think of a solution apple? All i did was download YOU'RE update, and it reopens with 0 playlists or songs in any libraries. minus some of the purchased songs i dont even want. These updates are getting more and more terrible, so do you think you could actually fix you're mistakes? thank you!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Would you mind telling me which anti-virus package you use? It may be that it is disturbing iTunes when it tries to write out the fresh database, as it does after almost any activity with your library. I'm noticing more of this type of problem than usual and trying to see if there is any pattern. It may help to prevent a repeat of the problem if you look at the advanced options for your AV package and see if you can find a way to exclude the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.

  • Itunes update deleted msvcr80 dll. file

My latest itunes update deleted the msvcr80 dll. file.   Itunes suggested uninstalling and then reinstalling itunes.  However, now the reinstall will not work.
    I have a windows 7 64 bit OS.

  • ITunes 8 deletes unopened podcasts

    Hello,
I just updated to iTunes 8, and discovered that it now auto-deletes podcasts to the settings I've chosen (which generally is fine of course), but it does so even for podcasts that have not been opened yet. Wouldn't it be more logical NOT to delete podcasts that have not been opened, since the user just was not able to (due to lack of time etc.)?
Personally, I'm glad I have not synced my iPhone yet, so I can still watch some TikiBar TV episodes even though they've already been 'killed' by iTunes...
Maybe it would be good to have an 'Do not delete unopened podcasts' checkbox in the Settings? Thanks for your response.
    Cheers,
    oxxie

I have the same problem. I tried to get around it by deleting the offending podcasts (it only seems to happen with 2 or 3 of my subscriptions), unsubscribing/resubscribing and downloading all available episodes. They stayed for a while, and then arbitrarily vanished from my podcasts list AND the folder that houses them in my iTunes library. (It's the LATTER problem that's really disconcerting...)
Any insight into this would be hugely helpful.

  • ITunes Updates Keeps Modifying the Library

The last two iTunes updates I have allowed to run (9.1x and today, version 10) have mangled my library. The 9.1x download wiped about 2 hours of user-input cover art. The Apple cover art function is awful, to be kind. When I spend hours updating the holes and mistakes it leaves behind, I don't appreciate the next version wiping it out during the update.
I reluctant;y put in Version 10 today. Immediately afterward, I opened my library to find that not only did this version randomly delete my cover art AGAIN, it also randomly separated my albums into multiple entries. Now I get to spend 2 to 3 hours scouring my library for the missing and wrongly assigned cover art, I also have to knit entries back into single albums.
Who does your software QA? If I put the cover art in manually, LEAVE IT. Don't rearrange my library entries. Don't break up albums into multiple new albums. Next time you feel the need to make an iTunes upgrade, think Hippocratic, and first do no harm. AND GIVE ME A BLOCK ALL UPGRADES OPTION. I really don't need your help any more.

SAme problem here. Did you ge tany fixes, other than manual?

  • Update deleted my music library

First, I tried to manually sync 2 songs but it said "Iphone could not be synced. Internal error has occurred." So I tried to update both itunes and my iphone. It didn't work nd it deleted my music library. Help

@shadow221, unfortunately that method only retured my previously backedup photos and nothing else. After attempting restoring it back to a few Backups with failed attempts, I just gave up.
Some users mentioned doing a complete restore to factory setting and do a backup but it just screwed with my ipod and no music back.  So i just let it be.  I reloaded my old tracks from iTunes, my Apps, unfortunately iTunes doesnt give me any option to reload any of my videos FML.
I did the above and wasted a good day and a half of my life reloading (on my pc) 300 songs, now I only have 1,200+ more to download to match my previous library contents.  Thanks Apple.
PS: i called Apple a week before the iOS 5 release and an associate explained that it will NOT delete my library if I do the update---thanks much for the warning!!!

  • How to keep a podcast in a playlist, but delete from Podcast library?

If I move a podcast to a playlist I've created on a certain subject, and then delete it from the podcast section of the library, it disappears from the playlist, as well. How can I move podcasts to a playlist and keep them, and at the same time delete them from the podcast library list?
    Thanks!

Playlists are just links to songs, videos or podcasts that are in your iTunes library. If you delete something from the library it can't be in a playlist. You can have something in the library but not in a playlist but you can't have something in a playlist that isn't in the library.

  • Itunes have deleted songs in library; cannot download; cannot understand previous comments.

Sob Story: My mother just died. I want to listen to my songs on my iPhone to destress myself. However, itunes has deleted half my playlist on my Mac. I went to my library. I did lots of searching for hours; I read all the comments here - half of them I don't understand.Too much talk; too little help. I tried dragging albums to itunes - NO!. Half of the songs in my so called library have weird names  - not the previous song titles. I dont know what has happened. I have not changed software, updated anything, changed anything etc. There are more songs on my iphone that are not now in itunes so I can't even sync because then I will lose the precious songs I DO want to listen to. I really can't cope with this. I read someone saying they will buy a huge MP3 player and download songs the old fashioned way and others laugh - but you know what? When your mother dies, he will be laughing and itunes users... I hate Apple SO much right now.
If anyone has a really simple solution for an IT dummy (funnily enough I was quite clever on the old IT front until this happened) please spell out. Do not say: go to library, do this with file blah blah -- I have tried it all and plus, there are dozens of itune library files...

It's very simple. I turned on my MacBook Pro, went to itunes and noticed half of my songs were missing, albums etc. I looked online and people said go to X folder i.e. itunes library etc etc... But when I go there, there are dozens of folders all with the same name. I tried all the techniques, dragging, dropping, from A to B, but no good. Then I found a Music Folder - great I thought, as all my albums seemed to be there. But when I looked at them all the tracks have weird names (i.e. they have lost their titles) and they could not be dropped into iTunes. I never buy anything from ITunes so all my albums are ones I bought on CD and downloaded. By MP3 Player I mean, one of those old fashioned devices where you can just manually drop albums into, that don't bother synching, unlike the ipod on my iphone which now contains completely different albums and tracks than in the itunes on my Macbook Pro meaning I can no longer sync. To be honest I've now given up but thanks for your response.

  • ITunes update deleted my playlists. Songs still there, playlists wiped off the Earth.

Last night I updated iTunes and I decided to restart later. Today after I restarted it, all my iTunes playlists were deleted.
All my songs are there, but the playlist is wiped off. Is there a way to restore this/anyone else have this happen to them?

  • New iTunes update and old podcasts

With the new iTunes update, all of my OLD podcasts are back on the list, apparently in the cloud. I do not want all of these old episodes showing up after I delete them but there is no longer a delete option when I highlight the unwanted episodes and right click. How do I hide old episodes from my podcast list?

I have the same problem. My podcasts show up under podcasts in itunes but not on my ipod and I have to search under music when I want to listen to them. It's a pain. Someone please help.

  • My iTunes has deleted my music library- how do you fix?

I tried importing a disk into my iTunes library, and it asked me to name the file.  So I did, but now my iTunes has that name displayed on the top and all my music and playlists are gone.  I tried uninstalling and re-installing, but it didn't fix the issue.  How do I revert back so I can have access to all my songs, videos, books, etc?  HELP!!

  • ITunes Update deleted everything!

My iTunes updated yesterday and when I restarted my computer this morning my entire library was GONE! AND my iPod Shuffle was reset and my playlist was gone! What Happened? Where is my music? What about the music i paid for from the store and downloaded?

Did you do a search of the harddrive?
Soapbox: It sounds like you don't have any backups if you are so worried about the music you bought from itms. I would HIGHLY recommend that you change that. Harddrive can/will fail without warning.

  • ITunes update deleted my LAN Network Devise and drivers

every time I attempt to update iTunes, it deletes my LAN connection and needed drivers.
When I tried to reinstall the drivers it would get a message that no associated device could be found on my system.
I have Windows XP Home SP2 and an Intel(R) Pro/100VE Network Connection that disappears when iTunes is installed.
I have had to do a system check point restore to get my LAN connection back, but lost iTunes all together.
Is there a way of re-installing an older version that still worked on my computer?  If so, where can I download it from?
Why is my Network Devise being deleted??

Same happened to me Yesterday. I updated my itunesand  upgraded my iPad OS to iOS 5.01 and all my backups gone. This is too much. Apple must consider this seriously. If you found any solution please tell me. It's really frustrating.

  • ITunes 11 deleted my entire library

iTunes 11 just deleted my entire library. It was working fine yesterday, but when I turned on my mac today, everything was wiped. The files are still on my Mac, but all the data has been wiped from iTunes, playlists, play counts, rankings. I've imported everything again, but nothing is organised. TV shows are not grouped together by show, season etc. I had spent a load of time organising audiobooks and now these are all appearing in the music section.
Anyone know how / why this happened and how to fix it?
    Thanks

They changed the way but its still very easy. All you have to do is copy your music by using keyboard commands.
    Steps (for MAC)
    1. Click (ONLY ONCE) on your chosen music files outside of Itunes.
    2. press Command + C
    3. go to your itunes
    4. press Command + V
    For PC ,its the same
    - the same stuff but instead of pressing the Command key, its Ctrl .
