Itunes update has caused my library to be updated

This has taken up to an hour on both recent I-tunes updates- why is it doing this? what is it doing? I will not update again if it continues in future- there should at least be a warning and option to cancel and start it later.

it tries to up date my library and then I get a message that iTunes has stopped working and this keeps happening and starts again on its own with the same results
soliscjw, if you're getting that message during the library update, that sounds like an issue either with your existing library file or one (or more) of your content files.
There's advice on troubleshooting those two possibilities in the following document:

  • ITunes 8 has deleted my library & playlists..............

......not only has iTunes 8 deleted my entire library and playlists, my iPhone has also died after upgrading to v2.1.
Question now is: how do I get my iTunes library & playlists back?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    I have the same problem.
I installed iTunes 8 and it deleted my entire iTunes Library and playlists.
Now...How can I move the library & playlists from my iPod back to iTunes? and not just the purchased content but ALL the content?
iTunes says that my iPod is sync with another iTunes library...non-sense.
    Please...help needed!

  • ITunes Match has reverted my library

Imagine my surprise when I went to listen to music this afternoon only to find that iTunes Match for some inexplicable reason has deleted all playlists I created within the last 3 weeks from all of my devices, it has also resurrected playlists I deleted 3 weeks ago!!! Everything was fine this morning.
All meta data in my library has also reverted without any explanation. Recently played songs are ones I listened to 3 weeks ago. I'm using OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 and iOS 7.1.2 on my devices, no iOS 8 betas or Yosemite betas so there's no reason for this to happen!!!
To say I'm irate with iTunes Match is an understatement. I'm turning iTunes Match off permanently and advising people I know to avoid it at all costs it's not worth the hassle, one of the worst apple products I've ever had the misfortune of using.

It's too bad that things have not gotten better on iTunes Match.  I cancelled my subscription last year, after running into similar issues.  iTunes eats your music and sometimes doesn't give it back.  I agree, it's one of the worst products they have right now.  If you want a system that works well with keeping your music safe and uploaded, Google Play, is quite good, and even has an iOS app.  Good alternative and also auto-uploads your iTunes music purchases whenever you purchase new music.
    Just an idea.....

  • Now that iTunes Match has hosed my library completely...how do I EASILY get back the albums and songs they didn't match from my hard drive?

iTunes match is a mess.  I am not going to go into all the details unless specifically asked but it's useless.  Now that I've turned it off I have found that the songs that iTunes could not Match to the iCloud iTunes is no longer able to find!  So it wants ME to manually match each song to the location on my hard drive.  This is an Apple joke right?
There has got to be a better way!  Restore from backup...love to!   Will that pull all my music if I was using iTunes Match at the last synch?  Help a girl out...I just want my music back.
    Sincerely,
And Irish girl who is NOT smiling!

The details are important - you'll have to spill them all, at lest the relevant ones, because this isn't a game of 20 questions. But I'll bite anway -
Are you using iTunes on a Mac or a PC?
    iTunes 10 or iTunes 11?
Did you add the files before turning on match, or after? or both (if both, which batch were the missing files in)?
After you turned on match, did you delete your files thinking you no longer need them?
Did you have iTunes set to copy and organize your files, or had you taken the manual route? (the settings are in iTunes Preferences, under "Advanced")
Have you recently renamed your hard drive, or some of your folders, or moved a folder that had music in it?
Does the location of your music library in iTunes Preferences --> Advanced match the actual location of your music?
Right-click one of the missing songs, and choose "Get Info" - does the location of the file match where it really is on the hard drive? If not, what's different?
Do you care about things like play counts, last played dates etc.? If not, you can just re-add all your music files (basically, start over fresh)

  • With Windows Vista, the most recent Itunes update 1/30/2014 has caused Itunes not to work, with a Mscvr80.dll not found error. Uninstalled all Apple programs, and installed fresh Itunes. Same problem. Tried to reinstall using an older install exe nogo

Recent ITunes update has caused ITunes not to work. Tried uninstalling all Apple products and reinstalling fresh. Still doesn't work. Tried reinstalling from an old install.exe. Install went nicely but program won't start as it says it can't open the library file.

Now that I have no way of accessing any of the products I have purchased from ITunes, I will most certainly never use ITunes again for any reason. Why throw good money after bad?  I will use another MP3 player that is not as cumbersome or proprietary.
    Lesson learned.

Just did the iTunes update that iTunes said was available, now iTunes won't open.  I just keep getting a Runtime Error message.

An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.  Please contact the apps support team for more info.
Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried to re-install and got the following message:  iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 1114)
Does this mean I have now lost everything?

I just had the same error:

I went to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 and did a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. You MUST follow the directions here exactly...it's more than just iTunes that must be removed, and it MUST be done in the order in which the support article says.  I followed the exact instructions, and iTunes is back on my machine (no more C runtime error) and you do NOT lose your music...it's all in my library, as it was before.
    Good luck!

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components; this won't affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Hi Doug! I was having the same problem but after reading a lot of answers I found the solution. First of all you need unistall ALL THE SOFTWARE OF APPLE from your computer, I mean BONJOUR, QUICKTIME, ITUNES, APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE, APPLE MOBILE DEVICE SUPPORT and the other one that is from compatibility with apps of apple, after that you must verify if this folders are removed if they don't then remove it:
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\
    C:\Program Files\iPod\
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll need to confirm that the following folders have been removed:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod\
Then if you have ccleaner you can use it to clean all registers left, then reboot and try to install iTunes 11.1.4 again as administrator... That works for me, I hope that helps you too...

  • ITunes 11.3.1 update has caused subscribed podcasts to stop downloading.

Before this most recent iTunes update, my subscribed podcasts were updating fine. Then after the most recent update to 11.3.1, my subscribed podcasts will not download. Neither via automatic download or when I manually refresh the podcasts. This is exactly the bug that the release notes claimed the update was supposed to fix.
The only workaround that I have is to open the podcast page in the iTunes store and manually download the latest episode from the store.
    Any ideas?
    iMac, OS X 10.9.4

My problem is exactly as you described, except one of the podcast feeds I have is not in the apple store but directly elsewhere. I was able to view the RSS feed and it was updated wednesday (3 days ago) with a new podcast, but itunes has yet recognize it. I even exited and restarted itunes. It won't refresh the podcast. Since it's not in itunes store, I can't manually select the podcast from the store.
I was able to manually download the podcast through the RSS feed's source code, and drop it into itunes (so I could watch it on my apple TV).
Apple is really going down the sh*tter if they put out a release causing the very problem they claim to be fixing.

    Hi abbiesetty,
If your iPhone is showing the Connect to iTunes screen and you are unable to restore because your iPhone isn't being recognized by iTunes on your Windows machine, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • New update has caused itunes not to run

i clicked on the new update for itunes, and successfully went through all the new install, but when i go to run itunes it comes up "itunes updating". It wont allow me to click on anything else and freezes the screen. I have tried uninstalling itunes several times and re-installing but this does no use, and i am left with the same message.

I just did some research and found the answer to my problem. It might be the same as yours.
    Try this website: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856
I found out that my problem was user-specific, and when I moved the itunes preference file to my desktop my problem was solved. itunes no longer froze when I opened it. Good luck!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried something like the above then try opening iTunes in safe mode (press and hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases. You may find that iTunes opens normally now.

  • HELP! Lost my entire library of over 700 songs with my last iTunes update. I had a lot of trouble even getting to update, and when it did it took out my entire library. Even after signing in with my apple ID it will not pull up my music. VERY frustrated.

It started with my iTunes not wanting to update at all. I kept getting an error that read "cannot access %appdata%". Ok so I let that go, still had my music, podcasts, books, etc...I just didn't have an updated iTunes. It still worked so I was cool with that. Then my phone broke this week, and I had to get a new one. When I came home to register, it didn't give me my songs like it did the last time I backed a device up to my account. So I had to do it manually. Not even half way through, it just stops and won't let me add anymore of my songs, and the few songs that I tried to drag over are gray in color on my phone and you can't listen to them when you tap them. Never mind all my other songs that I lost as well. I mean, come on! I had almost 300$ worth of music that I feel has been stolen. My kids received iTunes gift cards every Christmas and birthday for the past 3 years, and now it's gone. ALL OF IT. VERY VERY UPSET! Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself, so back to the issue. I'm beginning to get flipped out when it stops working altogether. iTunes, computer, everything. It finally says, iTunes has an update available that will solve the issue (yeah right). Me being dumb, I guess, I begin the steps to again try and download this update. Still getting the error mentioned above, so I start finding out what to do to get rid of that error so I can GET MY SONGS ON MY NEW PHONE. Go to apple support, and it says to delete iTunes and all its similar components, and it won't even let me do that!!! I go into administrator side, and it says I need permission. I had already gotten into our administrator side to which only my husband and I know the password so I already have permission. I give up on that for a while, and see if windows has any updates. There were a couple so I download those. Try to go back into iTunes once that's all done, and it shoots up this license aggreement. I'm excited at this point thinking my ordeal is over. So I click agree and iTunes comes up. That's when I discovered all my music, apps, podcasts GONE. I click on iTunes match, and it says something about matching music for $24.99 a month?! I WANT MY MUSIC BACK THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR. If this does not get resloved, I WANT MY MONEY BACK that was spent on this music. If this isn't resolved I also will never, NEVER reccomend iTunes, or any of its other music/app/book/podcast related business to anyone ever again. I have been an iTunes user for almost 4 years now, and I have never been this disappointed. When my phone broke we almost got a regular phone to save money, but because of all my music/books/podcasts already in my iTunes account we got another iPhone. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO TO RECOVER MY LOST LIBRARY!

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo
