ITunes Update Install Error

Tried update and it looks like it sucessfully installed (although the mobile device error message did come up during the install).  Get Windows error 193 message - ITunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.  Tried reinstall and get the same message.  Any ideas out there?  Thanks

Thanks. I actually used the Uninstall process to repair my older version of iTunes, and it seems to work fine. Guess, I'll cross the update bridge when needed.
Again, MANY thanks!

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Errors C  library install attempted improperly during iTunes update install?

Several times I encoountered an error message indicating that during the iTunes update installation that the C+ library file was atttempted to be installed improperly. I tried to eliminate the errors by uninstalliing iTunes and downloading a new complete iTunes. This would not install either. Tonight the newest version (11.1.4) update message showed up. I tried it, but with the same error messages and the same result: installation failed. Any suggestions?

Rather than using Apple Software Update, we'll try instead using a full installer downloaded from the Apple website.
Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

  • When I try to install Itunes updates, an error code always comes up; HRESULT: 0x800736FD. What do I do to resolve this? Thanks.

I have tried un-installing and re-installing, but it hasn't worked.
The error code is coming up as HRESULT: 0x800736FD.

That's a less common one (in this context).
Perhaps try the following Microsoft document:
    Windows Update error 80246005
Does that get your Windows Updates installing again? If so, stock up on the ones you're behind on (restarting the PC if requested to do so). You might have to do this in more than one batch (depending on when the 80246005 started happening and how far you're behind).
Once you're up to date, try the iTunes install again. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Security Update Install Error

Help!!! Software Update keeps telling me that I need to load Security Update 2009-005 (Intel) ver. 1.0, but every time I try to install it I get all the way to the end and this message pops up:
The update "Security Update 2009-005 (Intel)" can't be installed" Sorry, an unexpected error occurred. The Installer package has been moved to the trash. To try again, open the package from the Finder.
I have tried about 20 times and get the same result every time! I cannot go to the iTunes store in iTunes because it says I need version 4.0.5 of Safari, but I cannot load that Safari version because it says I need the latest security update.
Can someone please help me and tell me how to get my stupid security update installed? Thanks, in advance.

    Updating
Certain steps appear to minimize the risk of an update producing problems.
Number one is to make sure you have a bootable clone backup of your computer in case you do need to back out of it again. This is the only guaranteed way of not having to worry about the results of an update.
Some like to boot from their installer discs or an external backup and verify (and if necessary repair) their internal drives as well as drive permissions. This is done with Disk Utility. You can verify a drive while booted from the same drive but sometimes this produces spurious errors. Repairing a drive (if necessary) has to be done while booted from another disk.

You can also go to the step of booting into safe mode to do the install.

[Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107394]
I like to download the update onto my computer and install it from there rather than let Software Update do it. I know a few people who had problems with doing the update via software updater found a manual install to work.
    Repair permissions again afterward.
It helps to only install one update at a time and to run the computer for a while to make sure it is behaving well.
The more cautious even like to unplug third party peripherals (see [comment by BDaqua|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9040746#9040746]).
Almost all of the above steps (except backup) have been questioned (e.g., [Permissons repair|http://www.macworld.com/article/52220-3/2006/08/repairpermissions.html] as to necessity. Probably many people have done successful updates without doing them. I say they can't hurt, they can very likely do good (especially if your computer isn't regularly maintained), so why not do them to be safe?

  • Itunes update aborts - error "signature could not be verified"

I have attempted several times to download and install the latest iTunes update (11.2).  The install keeps aborting with the error message "itunes signature could not be verified."  I tried downloading only, and still get a similar error message.  Please don't ask me for the error message number - I didn't record it.
I am running iTunes on Windows 8.  I've been able to install previous updates since migrating to a Windows 8 machine.  Is this a known issue?  If so, how do I solve it?

I notice this has happened with previous versions of iTunes as well as previous versions of Windows.  I don't see any posts as yet about 11.2.  Am attempting to download via the Apple website as suggested in replies to previous instances of this error.  I will let you all know the result.  I'd really like to know WHY this happens!  Is it related to iTunes or Windows?  If someone could explain in reasonable layperson's terms, that would be helpful.  This is obviously a known issue for quite some time (posts going back to 2010-2011); why hasn't it been addressed?  We should be able to download iTunes updates from within iTunes!
    Thanks!

  • Itunes update issued error USBEthernethost.kext ...

Recently I did a routine update of itunes and received "the system extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update."
    1. reinstall how?
    2. It looks like Apple's product.
    3. I have installed nothing but Apple and Flash updates since the previous itunes update which did not issue an error.
    4. Should I care?

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following paragraph:
do shell script "chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" with administrator privileges
If it doesn’t work, throw that item away and then reinstall iTunes.

  • HT202213 Trying to activate home sharing with new iTunes update, says error #5506, any ideas?  Worked great before this update!

I'm trying to use home sharing with the latest iTunes update.  Keep getting error message 5506-any idea how to resolve this error and share at home?

Well, I tried a few other things and one worked but again just the first time I tried connecting to the desktop PC with iTunes. I flashed my router with the latest update and the ATV2 could see the iTunes library and I was able to play media. Later in the day I was going to show off to my daughter that I had fixed it and, to my dismay, no go. I tried opening the suggested ports but no luck.
I then tried loading iTunes on a Win7 laptop and it works perfectly with the ATV2. Both the laptop and the ATV2 are connected to the router wirelessly while the Desktop is connected to the router by Ethernet. Not sure if this is part of the issue as it sounds like this didn't work for others. The only other difference between the laptop and desktop is that the desktop has Win7 SP1 loaded while the laptop does not; now I'm scarred to load it though I don't think that's the issue. All in all, a very vexing situation. Hopefully Apple comes up with a solution soon.

  • Problem After iTunes Update Installed

Software Updates did its automatic check and I noticed the window on the desktop that said there was an update.  I looked at the details and I thought it said itunes update 10.6.3.  I read the details and installed it.  After it installed, I restarted the computer and befor the aple appeared but there was still the gray screen I did NOT hear the tone.  After about 30 seconds the apple appeared and the gear and it booted to the desktop.
I looked at the version of iTunes by going to About iTunes and the moving box said (althought it was really small this time) but I checked it again and it said 10.6 (4.0).  However, I thought when the Updater said there was a newer version of iTunes, I thought it said version 10.6.3, with no paranthesis.
I restarted the MacBook Pro again, and still there was no tone but the gray window was present for about 10 secs then the Apple, and it booted to the desktop.  I thought I should get a tone so I shut the MacBook Pro down and pressed the Power button to boot up in Safe Mode, but I did not hear the tone so I did not press the Shift key.  I checked the version of iTunes that was installed (assuming a newer version was installed) and it is 10.6 (4.0).
I tured the computer off and tried to do a SMC Reset.  I turned the MacBook Pro of left for a couple hours, came back, plugged the MagSafe Adapter in and tried to boot up the computer, no tone heard, the gray screen appeared for about 20 secs, then the Apple, then the gear and it booted to the desktop.
Something has been recently occuring.  when I plug in the MagSafe Adapter initially, next to the battery up in the menu next to the Bluetooth icon it says "Not charging" but after about 5 secs it has the charging sign in the middle of the battery.  Not sure if this is related or what.  I tried to do an SMC Reset when I saw this "Not Charging" when I plugged in the Mag Safe  but it did not change anything as far as when I plug in the Mag Safe Adapter it still initially says "Not Charging" for about 5 secs and then it goes away.
I am concerned what to do about hearing no tone and the version of iTunes I thought it said it was going to install but when I checked About iTunes it says 10.6 (4.0)
any help in this matter.  I am not the best when it comes to computer knowledge.
    thanks

Your explanations have clarified some things (including one misconception I had from not reading your post carefully enough -- I thought you had "hard shut down" by holding down the power button, no in rereading your post, it sounds like you did not do that but rather shut down in an orderly way, that was my misconception).
I too was not aware of the Magsafe Power Supply issues, but it sounds like you would be well off to use that settlement check to obtain a new one. Hopefully that will resolve the charging issues you saw. I work somewhere where there are literally hundreds of Macbook Pro and Air laptops, all with these Magsafe adaptors, and I haven't seen any such complaints, but perhaps yours was part of a bad batch, it sounds like you're not the only one. (I have seen such chargers just wear out after 4-5 years, but then they just stop working altogether, versus the "charging/not charging" business you were seeing.)
I am going to surmise that none of the Magsafe issues have anything to do with iTunes because iTunes is just an application that is not related to the way the laptop charges. I suspect it is a coincidence that the iTunes update happened around the same time. The Magsafe behaviors probably would have manifested themselves even if you had not done the update.
Is your sound working in iTunes? Do you still not have boot up sound? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, you may want to read this Apple article  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379  and consider doing a reset of your PRAM and/or NVRAM. I noticed that PRAM does control some sound settings and "attention tones" of the computer (which might include a startup tone perhaps).  Something to consider, it's hard to offer advice in these cases without being there in person to observe things. Good luck with all this.
Before you do any resets on PRAM or NVRAM, do re-check your sound settings to confirm that the mute box is not checked. When my Macbook Pro mute box is checked, I get no startup chime also. You might consider checking the mute box, restaring, then unchecking it again just to see if that matters. One last thing -- some other posts in the Discussions involved Macs without a startup chime and people got their chime back after disconnecting or fixing a peripheral that was plugged in via USB or Firewire. I don't understand why that would be, but that is what they reported -- something else for you to consider.
