Itunes update install - new problem - help before I jump out a window :)

Okay, so I should have learned the first 2 times I had this problem when trying to update to the newest version of itunes, but I decided to upgrade to 6.0.5 and when I did, everything installs hunky dory, and itunes starts to open, shows me the TOCs and asks me to agree or decline. When I hit agree, the window closes and NOTHING happens. I then am unable to open internet explorer, or mozilla, or any browser window, and can't kill the process for either itunes or quicktime....I end up having to manually shut off my system. So I've tried uninstalling and completely cleaning out the reg...tried installing standalone QT (which is what worked for me in the past), and get this...I even tried going back to 6.0.4 (still had an install of it on my jump drive) and....IT STILL DOESN'T WORK (only with 6.0.4. it doesn't ask me to agree to the TOCs and just does nothing without that step involved).
SERIOUSLY!!! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I TOSS MY MACHINE OUT OF THE WINDOW OR INTO THE POOL!!!
PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSE (I'm close to losing it (not really, but still))

Wow...I can't believe I'm saying it...but I think I'm giving up....
so after exhausting every possible option, I decided to hunt for a good registry cleaner (which I found, which was the one silver lining in this dark cloud of an experience - this cleaner being regvac)
so I cleaned up a bunch of poop, and itunes, quicktime, ipod related poop just hanging out in the registry, uninstalled some other programms that I decided that I either installed or re-installed since the last working install of itunes.....still the same **** thing
I think decided to remove all and go back to square one and try 6.0.4...same thing, only no TOS that I have to agree to after it tries to load
then I try 6.0.3 (this one has a TOS, but does the same **** thing), then 6.0.2, then one more version after that
NO LUCK!!!
so then I say screw it and decide to go for 6.0.5 one more time, with a standalone QT install to go with it
which I do...and I start to think that the TOS won't even load, as it took a second, as it's loading, I'm watching it's process, and I see it rise from 10k slowly up to 22k (which is usually where it hovers at with my problem I've been having)...well it then rises to 38K!!!!!
hmmmmm.....I've decided there's just a ghost in my machine that I can't exercise or send back to his/her peaceful rest (the ghost in the machine)
I mean I uninstalled norton, uninstalled nero, uninstalled limewire (again, wasn't used to pirate music), uninstalled some other stuff I can't remember...get this...I even disconnected from my wireless router (netgear with build in firewall and running WPA (I thought that HAD to have something to do with it) and plugged straight in to the cable modem......and guess what??? still no luck
unless a guardian angel comes to rescue me, I'm afraid I'm reduced to only running itunes from my laptop sigh (at least it works there) and then I'll have to use my desky as a file server for my music (my laptop HD isn't big enough to tackle my music library)
oh alas....a week or 2 of troubleshooting and stressing...wasted.....
the least apple could do for my troubles is send me a free ipod to add to my collection :P

    Diana,
This could be a delay while internal service records were updated. Check it out again - is it okay for now?

My iTunes update install failed. Error message says MSVCR80.dll is missing from my comuputer. What is that and where do I get it?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I went on Itunes to install new software and backup. It has been running all night and still saying preparing Iphone for restore. How long is this suppose to take?

Preparing your iPhone for restore its supposed to be about 1-2 minutes! Do you see any errors the time you plug in the wire from your iPhone to iTunes?

  • ITunes Update 7.6 Problems

I am completely amazed like so many of you about ITunes Update 7.6 problems and the failure of anyone from Apple or anywhere else to, at least, acknowledge the problem. I sent the following note to Appleinsider:
"I was wondering why there has been absolutely no mention of the current problems with i-tunes since their recent 7.6 update. There have literally been hundreds upon hundreds of complaints piling up in forums (particularly Apple's). Despite this all major Apple information outlets have been completely silent. I think that most of us long time Apple supporters are getting tired of hearing about I=Phone this and I-Phone that, Apple TV, and more I-Phone as if these are the only current Apple issues. The level of frustration from i-Tune users is palpable out there. We've now even got Apple information sites reporting on the problems of Microsoft's "Office 2008", but still no mention within these sites of i-Tune's problems. No answers or acknowledgement of problems from Apple, none from sites such as Appleinsider, Macrumours, etc.. Apple users are just flabbergasted by all of this. Would you please take a look at this issue yourself. I think you will be shocked. As more and more people continue to download i-Tunes Update 7.6 this is getting worse and worse and Apple thusfar seems to demonstrate it either doesn't care or that it's a problem with a few people. If they read their own forums they have to know that this is far, far from the truth. Apple needs to at least acknowledge the problem or better still pull the update until the problems are fixed with Update 7.7."
Probably won't do anything but I can tell you that I feel just a little bit better!!!!

Every time Apple releases an update to iTunes, there is a large number of people who have problems. But my guess is that this number is a tiny percentage of the hundreds of millions of iTunes users there are (analysts think a million copies of iTunes are downloaded every day). http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/06/12/appleserving_up_1_million_copies_of_itunes_eachday.html If you don't believe me, search these boards for "iTunes 7.5" "iTunes 7.4" "iTunes 7.3" etc.
I'm not trying to minimize your pain. I know it *****, but I have been watching these boards for years now, and this release is no worse than most others.

  • ITunes "automatically install new apps" vs. iOS "automatic downloads"

Can someone please explain me the difference? I was tempted to say they both do the exactly same thing, as the itunes "automatically install new apps" is present only when my idevices are connected....until I compared it to my iphone when it was syncing...on itunes was off, but on my iPhone was turned on.

  • Problem After iTunes Update Installed

Software Updates did its automatic check and I noticed the window on the desktop that said there was an update.  I looked at the details and I thought it said itunes update 10.6.3.  I read the details and installed it.  After it installed, I restarted the computer and befor the aple appeared but there was still the gray screen I did NOT hear the tone.  After about 30 seconds the apple appeared and the gear and it booted to the desktop.
I looked at the version of iTunes by going to About iTunes and the moving box said (althought it was really small this time) but I checked it again and it said 10.6 (4.0).  However, I thought when the Updater said there was a newer version of iTunes, I thought it said version 10.6.3, with no paranthesis.
I restarted the MacBook Pro again, and still there was no tone but the gray window was present for about 10 secs then the Apple, and it booted to the desktop.  I thought I should get a tone so I shut the MacBook Pro down and pressed the Power button to boot up in Safe Mode, but I did not hear the tone so I did not press the Shift key.  I checked the version of iTunes that was installed (assuming a newer version was installed) and it is 10.6 (4.0).
I tured the computer off and tried to do a SMC Reset.  I turned the MacBook Pro of left for a couple hours, came back, plugged the MagSafe Adapter in and tried to boot up the computer, no tone heard, the gray screen appeared for about 20 secs, then the Apple, then the gear and it booted to the desktop.
Something has been recently occuring.  when I plug in the MagSafe Adapter initially, next to the battery up in the menu next to the Bluetooth icon it says "Not charging" but after about 5 secs it has the charging sign in the middle of the battery.  Not sure if this is related or what.  I tried to do an SMC Reset when I saw this "Not Charging" when I plugged in the Mag Safe  but it did not change anything as far as when I plug in the Mag Safe Adapter it still initially says "Not Charging" for about 5 secs and then it goes away.
I am concerned what to do about hearing no tone and the version of iTunes I thought it said it was going to install but when I checked About iTunes it says 10.6 (4.0)
any help in this matter.  I am not the best when it comes to computer knowledge.
    thanks

Your explanations have clarified some things (including one misconception I had from not reading your post carefully enough -- I thought you had "hard shut down" by holding down the power button, no in rereading your post, it sounds like you did not do that but rather shut down in an orderly way, that was my misconception).
I too was not aware of the Magsafe Power Supply issues, but it sounds like you would be well off to use that settlement check to obtain a new one. Hopefully that will resolve the charging issues you saw. I work somewhere where there are literally hundreds of Macbook Pro and Air laptops, all with these Magsafe adaptors, and I haven't seen any such complaints, but perhaps yours was part of a bad batch, it sounds like you're not the only one. (I have seen such chargers just wear out after 4-5 years, but then they just stop working altogether, versus the "charging/not charging" business you were seeing.)
I am going to surmise that none of the Magsafe issues have anything to do with iTunes because iTunes is just an application that is not related to the way the laptop charges. I suspect it is a coincidence that the iTunes update happened around the same time. The Magsafe behaviors probably would have manifested themselves even if you had not done the update.
Is your sound working in iTunes? Do you still not have boot up sound? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, you may want to read this Apple article  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379  and consider doing a reset of your PRAM and/or NVRAM. I noticed that PRAM does control some sound settings and "attention tones" of the computer (which might include a startup tone perhaps).  Something to consider, it's hard to offer advice in these cases without being there in person to observe things. Good luck with all this.
Before you do any resets on PRAM or NVRAM, do re-check your sound settings to confirm that the mute box is not checked. When my Macbook Pro mute box is checked, I get no startup chime also. You might consider checking the mute box, restaring, then unchecking it again just to see if that matters. One last thing -- some other posts in the Discussions involved Macs without a startup chime and people got their chime back after disconnecting or fixing a peripheral that was plugged in via USB or Firewire. I don't understand why that would be, but that is what they reported -- something else for you to consider.

  • Itunes has encountered a problem. help please?

ok this is making me really angry. i am obsessed with itunes and now mine doesnt work. when i click on the icon a little box comes up saying:: itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. blah blah. and then if you click see what the data report contains it says--- this error report includes information regarding the condition of itunes when the problem occured; the operating system version and computer hardware in use- your digital product ID. which could be used to identify your license and the internet protocal address of your computer... and there's more..
I NEED HELP NOW i'm desperate. it's really bothering me i've deleted my itunes three times completly off my computer and downloaded it again and the same thing comes up... help pleasee!!!??
    thanks so much
---I have the new version of itunes installed. and I uninstalled it by going into add or remove programs and deleted it completely off my computer. I reinstalled it by downloading the new version of itunes off the website.. also I'm not quite sure whether my itunes is external or secondary drive.. i'm thinking external..

    hi Alessia!
actually, that's a good sign. the registry issues are tricky ...
okay, let's try to cleanly remove all your itunes and quicktime program files and folders. use the full uninstallation instructions given here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
and use the windows cleanup utility if you run into trouble.
then download and save a standalone QT 7 installer to your hard drive. we'll run the installation from there. here's a link through to a standalone:
Scott Patrie, "Installation hangs on "installing QuickTime"", 10:33pm Oct 7, 2004 CDT
after you've got that installed, download and save a new itunes installer to your hard drive. then run the installation from there, skipping the QT part of the install when given the option.
keep us posted on your progress.
    love, b

  • Errors C  library install attempted improperly during iTunes update install?

Several times I encoountered an error message indicating that during the iTunes update installation that the C+ library file was atttempted to be installed improperly. I tried to eliminate the errors by uninstalliing iTunes and downloading a new complete iTunes. This would not install either. Tonight the newest version (11.1.4) update message showed up. I tried it, but with the same error messages and the same result: installation failed. Any suggestions?

Tonight the newest version (11.1.4) update message showed up. I tried it, but with the same error messages and the same result: installation failed
Rather than using Apple Software Update, we'll try instead using a full installer downloaded from the Apple website.
Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

  • Can't install new mini HELP!

Could some kind soul give me step by step instructions on how to install my new mini. Having read through some of the topics I seem to have a common problem. My pc will not recognise the new device and consequently it seems the rest of the install program doesn't work. My daughter has a mac laptop(with i-tunes and her own mini) so perhaps I could use that to help get mine to work.
    Thankyou

I have installed i-tunes on the kids computer that runs Windows xp with no probs. Followed the instructions and everything happened as it should,it recognizes my ipod and I downloaded all my music( which I had to transfer from my laptop!)My daughter has an Apple Mac laptop and is away from home at boarding school, so that was not an option.
It must be something in my laptop that is not configured correctly. I can install from the ipod mini cd rom provided, it just doesn't install the drivers. I have been into Device Manager and it shows a yellow folder called ipod mini and I 've tried installing from there but it still comes up with the message that it can't find the drivers....even when I load the cd rom. It really is maddening....I hate it when I can't solve probs! Mind you I have had an interesting journey into the deeper workings of my laptop!
    Thanks for your advice anyway.

  • Itunes update causing weird problem for apple tv streaming songs

In itunes 10.5 when I choose apple tv as the external speaker and send songs through it plays the song and displays the cover of the album, title, song, name, and artist on the tv screen.  When I updated to 10.5.1 it does the same except that after the first song the cd cover is one behind what is playing.  For the sake of clarity, say I start the streaming songs on random play.  The first three songs might be "Misty" by Kate Bush, "Rolling Along" by Lucinda Williams, and then "The Foggy Foggy Dew" by Greg Brown.  When the first song plays it will be correct.  "Misty" will be playing, Kate Bush will be displayed as the artist and the cover of the Kate Bush album will be showing.  But when the next song comes on it will be playing "Rolling Along", Lucinda Williams will be displayed as the artist but the Kate Bush album cover will be displayed.  Then the next song comes on "The Foggy Foggy Dew" will be playing, Greg Brown will be displayed as the artist but the Lucinda Wililams cover will be displayed.  And so on.
I've experimented with it and feel certain it is the itunes update.  I still have version 10.5 on my laptop and that is working normally.  It is only the computer that I updated to 10.5.1 on that his having this weird thing occur.
    Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem.  Thanks for describing it so accurately.  My Apple TV underwent a software update last evening, but the problem remains.  Will be anxious to know when a fix has been applied.
