have reformatted my Imac using original discs (installed leopard (10.5)) tried to do the software update but it cant download the itunes update and when it gets to the configure update screen after restart for main update, it just gets stuck. HELP!
The configure bar gets about an 1/8 full and then just does nothing. I think its lists the update as combo update? cant remember with out checking.
I have tried to do the disk verify and repair but this has made no difference.
Please let me know what i need to do, I have reformatted the mac just to start over as was clogged with a lot of useless data, I had installed lion (10.7) from the app store previously and now cant seem to find a way to re install lion. I hope I dont need to pay for it again?

If you erased your hard drive, you'll need to reinstll OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to access the App store. You won't have to pay for OS X 10.7 Lion again. Did you try booting to the recovery partition by holding the command and r keys down? If that's still there, you can reinstall OS X 10.7 from there.
If you're looking to install the current iTunes, you need OS X 10.6.8 at a minimum.
If you're still trying to update OS X 10.5 Leopard, you can download the combo update from here.  Download, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, apply the update, then repair permissions again. That will take you to OS X 10.5.8.

  • My new iPod Classic will not sync with my new Mac Book. My iPhone 5 does, so does 2nd gen. iPod touch. Apple Store cannot figure it out. Tried different Classics on different Macs, same thing. iTunes update issue ?

The iPod Classic I bought a month ago is not synching with my new Mac Book I bought 3 weeks ago. All the software was immediately updated. My iPhone 5 synchs fine, and so does my 2nd generaton iPod Touch. The original computer I synched all of these devices on was my HP latop. I bought my Mac and Classic to the Apple Store for a 'Genius Appt' and they could not figure out what the problem is. The connected my Classic to another computer and the same thing happens. It says device is not recognized. They also took other iPod Classics and connected them to my Mac and other Macs. The same thing was happening. They took notes and said it probably is an iTunes update issue.
I can manually drag songs into my Classic but I lost all playlists because it cannot be backed up as well and they had to restore it. For now I am holding on to it but it's usless to me if I cannot use it the way I liked too. I used it for the gym and bike riding and my last iPod battery died after 6 years. A charge would last 45 miutes. I love the Classic for what I use it for but it's a $275 brick to me now. At least the renewed by receipt so I can get a full refund.
Is anyone else seeing this issue ? The Apple Store employee said he saw a first generation iPad havng the same issue. As of now the Support Dest is unaware of this. As much as I love my new Mac I am disappointed I cannot sync my new Classic to it. Total bummer.
    Any help would be apprecated.

By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.

  • Startup issues after restart

    Hello,
Since updating to 10.6.7 (probably) I am having strange issues with my Mac Pro 2008 Nehalem.
The issue is that after a restart (from menu) the system always freezes on a login screen. Sometimes the screen is totally blue, sometimes it freezes in the middle of login screen appearing, sometimes right after it appeared, but freezes always.
    This happens ALWAYS after restart
This happens NEVER after i kill the computer holding power down for a few secs.
    Any guides for troubleshooting?
    Thanks

    You might try this:
You will need to type some Unix commands. If you are not comfortable with this, I don't know of anything other than a re-install. But if you are careful, you should be OK. I recommend you print this out in a largish mono-spaced font so you don't miss any spaces (or add extra ones). Note that case is important.
Be careful. Some of these commands are dangerous, since you are going to be root.
Start up in Single-User mode by restarting the computer. After the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-S keys until you see white text on a black background. When this has finished you will see a prompt ending in '#', although there may be other messages. Enter the following commands after the prompt:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Press RETURN. Wait a few seconds for 8-10 lines of output. If the last line says repairs were carried out, repeat this command until you get a message 'The volume <yourdiskname> appears to be OK'. Then continue with:
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /Library/Preferences
    rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    rm com.apple.windowserver.plist
    cd /Library/Caches
    rm -r *
    cd /System/Library
    rm Extensions.kextcache
    cd /System/Library/Caches
    rm -r *
    reboot
    Press RETURN after each command.
This should now take you to a proper login screen after the normal boot sequence. You should then Repair Permissions by using Disk Utility (in your /Applications/Utilities folder). If you don't find all of the listed items then ignore them. They don't exist in all OS versions.

  • Today's Itunes Update Issues

Anyone else have issues with this week's Itunes update? I'm totally locked out now as the update failed. I even tried downloading and installing from the
    website and no luck?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • Itunes update issue

I updated iTunes but receive the following message: AVCFPlayerItemDurationChangedNotofication...  Now iTunes will not run.  I even tried the repair option on the iTunes download website.  Any suggestions?

Does this happen if you start iTunes in safe mode, hold Shift and Control while launching it?

  • Software Update Issue-After Leopard Installation

I installed Leopard yesterday and ran the first software update; everything worked OK; the first software updated included three updates: Remote Desktop Client update; iDVD update and Garageband update.
Today I tried to run another update and had this issue: while the Software Update is displaying a message saying "New software is available for your computer" there is nothing listed below and the install button is disabled! Then I went to the Software Update Preference and saw a message there saying Last Attempt Failed; error occurred while checking
Does anyone have the same issue while trying a new software update after Leopard installation?
I do understand there is another new update issued yesterday by Apple regarding login key
Grateful for any insight re this problem

Hi. I had the same problem after doing an erase and install of Leopard yesterday. When I go into Terminal (actually iTerm) and type "softwareupdate -l" (to list all updates), I see:
    XML parser error:
    Encountered unexpected EOF
    Old-style plist parser error:
Malformed data byte group at line 1; invalid hex
This appears to be a problem with com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, the property list for Software Update, but I'm not sure. If I type "find ~/Library/ -name '*plist' -exec plutil {} \;" to check all the plists, however, the Software Update plist checks out as OK. Furthermore, deleting that property list and rebooting to force the OS to create a new plist does not fix the problem. Weird. Now, if I type "sudo softwareupdate -i -a" to install all updates (change "-a" to "-r" to only install recommended updates), it works fine. I still get that same error when I try to run Software Update normally afterwards, but if I go to the preferences, all of the updates are listed under Installed Updates. So, I can get the OS to update automatically, but only through the Terminal. This is very weird, and I hope someone can shed more light on this situation.

  • Itunes update issued error USBEthernethost.kext ...

Recently I did a routine update of itunes and received "the system extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update."
    1. reinstall how?
    2. It looks like Apple's product.
    3. I have installed nothing but Apple and Flash updates since the previous itunes update which did not issue an error.
    4. Should I care?

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following paragraph:
do shell script "chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" with administrator privileges
If it doesn’t work, throw that item away and then reinstall iTunes.

  • Itunes wont open after restarting while updating

I canceled the update and while it was canceling, I restarted computer. I tried to redownload it but the update is on hold. No clue how to resume or fix problem. Help?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

    THANKYOU SO MUCH.
I update this morning at work, on VISTA with iphone 4. Same thing, i restart, it tells me Itunes cannot start as files are missing.
I seached EVERYWHERE, with lots of stupid long winded possible solutions.
THIS WORKS, and its ONE SIMPLE CLICK... WHY DO APPLE NOT HAVE THIS LISTED ON THE FRONT OF SOLUTIONS

  • Update lion after restart white screen, no logo

    I have a 2 weeks old:
MacBook Pro 15", Intel Core i7 Quad 2.2 GHz
Yesterday i tried to update Lion with the update apple released that day. It downloaded the update and it asked me to restart the computer. After hitting the restartbutton my screen turned white. The only thing left was the mouse arrow.
I waited at least an hour but nothing happend. I tried to restart my computer pressing the on/off button. It tried to restart but got stuck at the startupscreen with the apple logo. Today i had to reboot my computer and installed lion again. Finally i got back on my desktop. But the software update still asked me to instal the new macosx. So i tried again. And now i have this white screen again.
What can i do to fix this?

i called apple today and i got this problem fixed
I was not able to restart my computer so I had to hold down the alt key when i turned on my computer. Than these 2 harddrives appeard and i had to choose "recovery harddrive"
In the next step i could choose in a menu to reinstall os lion. So i did.. That took almost 2 hours.
Ik finally got back in my computer.
In the menu "system updates" i still got the announcement of a new Mac OSX update. But also 4 other updates.
    • lion recovery update
    • update remote desktop
    • itunes
    • something with raw files
The lady on the phone told me to seperately install these updates and that did the trick.
There seemed to be a conflict between those updates. I dont know why. But she told me that i had to install the small updates first and the recovery update as 4th and as last the mac osx update.
So maybe if you reboot your computer with the alt key and try to install lion again, and than install the updates seperately it will work. And the most important thing.. Your files will still be on your computer. You wont lose anything by doing this.

  • Z97 GD-65 Bios issues after restart Win 8.1

First off, I am running bios 2.7 and I used the M-flash method. It went through perfectly, but when I restart from in Windows and try to enter the bios I have an issue. As soon as I try to move anywhere the bios freezes with weird numbers and letters all over. The temp is still reading and changing, but I have to hold the power button down to leave the bios screen.
If I cold boot, I don't have this issue.
Something I noticed was that when restarting and hitting the button to enter the bios the motherboard flash screen is in a 4:3 format. When I cold boot the motherboard flash screen is in 16:9. The problem only seems to occur when the flash screen appears in 4:3 before entering the bios.
I have tried reflashing with M-flash and live update, and the problem still persists. I have also tried reverting to version 2.5 of my bios. Same issue. It only happens when restating windows. Known bug? Any setting I need to change in the bios to resolve this issue?
PS: Everything seems to work fine while in Windows. No random restarts or lockups, temps are all good, and voltages are right where they should be. Games all run fine with no performance issues, lockups, or crashes as well.

I'll look again when I get home, but I was pretty sure I only saw bios update and nothing about the ME. I believe I had only one option come up and it was the actual .rom file I saw.
just double check if its BIOS+ME, else yes think should the 1 option only for recent boards like yours

I just want to ask you while you are here. Have you heard of or seen this bug before? I tried googling it up, but I couldn't find anything similar at all which I found weird.
    nope
but you have to confirm where this bug exist,
flash back to your old working BIOS 2.5 and see if the issue will remain
First off, I am running bios 2.7 and I used the M-flash method.

have you flashed back to 2.5  with M-Flash or?
and have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed after that?
