ITunes update, no longer default player?

iTunes updated today. Now when I put in a music cd, iTunes doesn't open and it's not even on the list of optional music players. When I go to the settings in iTunes, it is checked as the default player. Something isn't right. It usually opens and plays the cds. I opened iTunes and then put in the cd and it still didn't come up. I reinserted the cd and it worked the second time. How can I tell if somethings messed up in the update? Very frustrating as I'm actually trying to listen to a book on cd (18 cds).

Well this bites. I've never had issues with iTunes and never thought anything about updating it. I've always been able to trust them....until now. I wish I had read the LONG forum post about all the problems people have had with the new version.

  • ITunes not listed in default player list.

Running iTunes from an external, suddenly about 10% of my music is missing. iTunes also notified me that it wasn't the default music player. When I try to change the association, iTunes is not listed in my default player list, even when I point it to the external. I've had issues with WMP hijacking my music files in the past, but never to the point that I couldn't find them and reset the default. I'm baffled, any help out there? Thanks in advance if you have a clue.

Hi, I also submitted a podcast and it has not shown on iTunes store yet nor have I received any response or confirmation.
Please if you do get an answer on this can you email me to [email protected]
    it will be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes update no longer writes purchased songs to external drive

I have my iTunes library setup on an external networked drive. I have been purchasing music from the iTunes store and they have been written to my networked drive until I did the latest iTunes update on 7/18/08 (v 7.7.0.43), now all of my purchased music are waiting to be downloaded in iTunes. The error I have is "You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" even though iTunes is still using the library from the external networked drive and I can do a browse to that drive. How can I resolve this or reinstall the last version of iTunes?
    TIA

You say the bar scrolls.  It really is playing a track?  You can see a title and it shows elapsed time?
There is the option to adjust volume on files in iTunes options, as well as a volume equalizing feature.
Have you tried playing another audio file on your computer with iTunes? With Quicktime?   Tried playing one of the problem files with Quicktime? Does your system beep work? Let's see if the problem lies in iTunes or in the files themselves, or in the computer in general (e.g., bent headphone jack -- and you did unplug the headphones didn't you?)

  • ITunes update no longer connects to AirPort Express

Sympton exists on both iMac and iBook even after permissions updated with Disk Utility. Anyone have any thoughts?

I am using Airport Express also but have not had any trouble with the iTunes 6.0.4 update. Is your AE firmware up-to-date? Try resetting the AE (look in Airport Help for instructions) You may want to post to the Airport Express discussions. Good luck.

  • Latest iTunes update =  No Sound

    Hi all !
just thought I would share this little issue,
I've just updated to the latest iTunes build running on 10.6.5 on my MacBook Pro 4.2,
Downloaded directly from the download page on the apple site as the software update couldn't find it,
Installed fine, then restarted as you would normally.
    Then the ISSUES started.
No Sound at ALL !!, from iTunes . Volume keys , headphones, YouTube site, all the on screen playback was fine, But no sound.
    Run Disk Utility,
To find over 150 errors All iTunes and sound related plugins,
I had to restart my machine 3 times before it returned to normal
    Thanks

Hello this is the nearerst to my issue that i can find. I am running a 64 Bit Windows 7 PC and have had itunes running on my computer problem free for years. Now there is no sound at all from Itunes. This started when i downloaded version 10 a month or so ago and today the updater told me 10.1 is available - I downloaded it hoping that it would solve my problems - nope just the same.
All other web pages and media players like VLC and windows media player work fine - any ideas?
Oh yeah the other unusual thing is that every time I open iTunes it says that iTunes isn’t the default player for lots of music files - I reset it back to default every time but the next time I open it I get the same message...
    Help would be much appreciated

  • Software Update/iTunes Update does not show any new updates

My mac is on a new internet provider and OS X update, and even iTunes update, no longer work properly. The OS update reports no new updates (even though new updates exist: TimeMachine and Airport Update v1.0, Security Update 2008-002 v1.0,...).
The problem has been isolated to an outgoing IP address: 24.29.138.* (cpe-24-29-138-??.nyc.res.rr.com, where ?? is a range of ip addresses 11 to 96) used or referenced whenever OS Software update or iTunes update is run. Whois reports the IP range as Road Runner, presumable residential services (and not apple). The outgoing service provider has that range of IP addresses blocked.
Anybody else see this? Anybody know why the mac update services reference *.nyc.res.rr.com? Any solution besides taking my mac to another internet provider service for updates?
    Thanks.

    Kappy,
Yes, cable modems were switched. Never had RoadRunner/Bright House service (now or then). Went from Cox to Uverse. Believe the MacBook was added after service providers were changed, but nonetheless, have reset the mac at least twice (upgrade from Tiger to Leopard required tech support to get it working, which included several "hard" resets), the modem/router has been reset several times (with several instances of +24 hours between shut-down and restarts). The fiber service has the modem and router combined, so resetting is a single operation.
From Network Settings, I have valid IP addresses and it is using DHCP.
I have VirusBarrier installed, along with NetBarrier, which is how I learned about the odd outgoing connection via RoadRunner during mac/iTunes updates. VirusBarrier reported no spy/malware.
When you run Mac OS Software Update or attempt to download iTunes updates, your system does not connect (or attempt to connect) to any non-apple IP addresses? Just like to confirm if anybody else see this or not?
Even posting to this discussion board causes an outgoing connection to cpe-24-29-138-65.nyc.res.rr.com TCP Port 54450 and working up to 54537, appears to be an outgoing message every 30 seconds to the next Port in sequence.
Any ideas what is happening? Booted up the Powerbook G4 on the same network, has the same outgoing connection to nyc.res.rr.com.

  • ITunes is no longer listed in Default Programs in Vista

After accepting the latest update to iTunes (7.6.029) + QuickTime this afternoon, there are several registry keys associated with iTunes and QuickTime that no longer have the appropriate permissions set which I believe is the main reason why iTunes is no longer listed in Default Programs in Vista. It also constantly alerts me that it's not the default player for audio files and if I'd like to go to Default Programs control panel to fix it. If I say yes, I get a blank screen in the details because it's trying to point to the properties of the once-listed iTunes in the Default Programs screen. I know I can disable the notification, but it's just evident of larger issues with the software.
Anyone else experience this with a fix? I've seen many, many posts when Googling this problem about the Default Programs in Vista not listing iTunes, other problems associated with registry keys for iTunes and QuickTime that aren't editable, etc.
I actually discovered this after the update when one of my sidebar gadgets would no longer launch iTunes. I performed a system restore to this morning before the update and most everything worked again. However, I had to reinstall iTunes because it warned me that it couldn't launch because some of the necessary files were missing. After reinstalling it, the sidebar tool was able to launch it again but the tool isn't listed in Default Programs now with some of the registry keys locked. I can unlock them and adjust the permissions but there are 50+ entries and their child keys that all would need to be unlocked.
It would be nice to have this problem resolved. I'm concerned about future upgrades as I've seen other users mention this problem in 7.4 and 7.1.

I have the same exact problem and same exact symptoms. I tried uninstalling and re-installing and no luck. Did you ever find a solution?

  • "An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types"

Getting ready for a deployment of version 9.2 of iTunes for 1400+ users.
Getting this error when a 'normal' user goes into Edit/Preferences of iTunes and makes no changes.
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. you do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I've elevated privileges of the C:\program files\itunes directory for this user to Full Control however problem remains.
Tried to modify the folder to remove 'read-only', as found this suggestion on here, but read-only keeps applying itself.
User has full rights to the location of the media as specified under Advanced Tab. If I tick 'Set as default media player' and remove tick and then click OK I do not get the error. From what I've read it's affected older versions of iTunes also.
Doe anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar issue. Turned out that - somehow - one of the directories or files in my iTunes music folder had gotten set to read only. Fixing it was easy.
    Go to Edit/Preferences.
    Choose the Advanced tab
in the General subtab select the contents of the box labeled "iTunes Music folder location"
    Click Start, choose Run
    Paste the location
Press the button to move up one level
Right-click the music folder, choose Properties
If this is your problem, the read-only box will be a solid color or checked. Set it to empty and choose the default "apply to folder and all subfolders and files." This will set everything in there readable, which after I did so I stopped getting the error.

  • Upgraded to 10.3.1.55, now can't set iT as default player,"An error occurred when updating the default player for audio files types.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." How to fix?

After I upgraded iTunes, iTunes doesn't recognize CD in the drive, apparently isn't the default player.  It won't let me set iTunes as the default player, I get the error message "An error occurred when updating the default player for audio files types."  I tried Whitesides' remedy (changing Read Only status in folder in Windows) but it didn't solve the problem.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
    J

Oddly enough. I think I just solved it. It looks like, for some reason, my computer has about 8 different "iTunes music" folders, and I've been saving my music to the wrong one. Neat. Music now imports and plays as it should. Copying things over is going to be so fun tonight!

  • TS3771 My iTunes U no longer works since the update, an error message pops up saying that "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed the tutorial that suggests to change to from 64 to 32 bit and it didn't

iTunes U video files no longer work on my computer since i update to Mavericks. The following message appears on the screen "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed a tutorial that suggested to go to Applications/iTunes/Get Info and change to 32 bit. Now my iTunes does not open at all, it says it requires 64 bit. I am a bit confused and disappointed. What should I do to get it fixed? Buy a new MacBook?

Marcello, I am having the same problem.  When following the advice of many in the community to start iTunes in 32-bit mode, I get the following error after I have done so:
I am running 10.9.2 on a mac mini.
I am hoping this will be fixed or at least a solid answer could be given that iTunes will no longer support certain types of media going foward.

  • "cannot be updated because Itunes selected no longer exist"

Hello. When I hooked up my Ipod for the first time it sucked up the 800+ MP3 files from My Music folder. Now I want to update my library and delete them all from the Ipod (not my hard drive) and start over with songs from the Itunes folder.
I unchecked all of the songs in the library and reconnected, but it will not delete them and I get this error message:
"Cannot be updated because one or more of the Itunes playlists selected to update no longer exist"
I'm thinking I need to "reboot" the Ipod and clear out the memory but I don't know how. Or somehow figure out how to get around this error. Can anyone help???
    Thanks!

    Have a look at this.

Installed latest itunes update and computer tried to burn a playlist to CD and realized computer no longer recognizes my CD/DVD drive.
