Itunes update + other Apple Updates killed iPhone connection to desktop

Updated my iPhone 2G from Apple Updates, including iTunes, Quicktime, Security Update, etc.
Now my iPhone isn't recognized by my Computer/USB. It won't charge, and iTunes won't recognize it. I tried my iPod, and it functions normally, so it's not the cable (which I tried different ones anyway). The iPhone does pick up a charge when plugged directly into the outlet.
Apple, this is getting ridiculous.

same problem on the 3GS, but the software wiped my phone THEN said it couldn't communicate. I'm screwed!

Try installing the Epson drivers from here:

and then seeing if adding and printing with USB works.
This site really works and my computer is now printing.

  • I have music on my iphone, but Itunes says 'Music - zero items' when iphone connected. How do i manage my songs?

Background info: I have music on my iphone that i would like to change / delete / update manually. Software versions of both itunes and iphone are up to date.
    So, in chronological order:
When i connect my iphone to my PC, itunes detects it. Fine. No problem.
I click on the 'on this iphone' tab (where I would expect to see the music i know to have on my iphone)... It says 'Music - zero items'. Hmmmm - i know i have over 1 GB of music on there...
I click on the summary tab for my iphone. 'Manually manage music and videos' is checked. The status bar at the bottom shows i have over 1 GB of 'other' information on my iphone, but no music.
Basically what i'm after is being able to delete and add music from my itunes to my iphone as i see fit. At present i am unable due to the reasons outlined above. Tried contacting Apple direct but providing me with only 140 characters to describe the problem to them is.. well... pretty w@nk.
Any help appreciated- have been scouring the discussion boards but cannot find anything that correlates directly.
    Thanks in advance

  • ITunes and other apple-software | nothing's possible anymore

    Hi,
I know there's been some discussion already on several issues with iTunes especially that also cover ONE of my problems but unfortunately the given strategies to resolve those probs didn't work out.
So I'd like to post my problem once more. Since I, unfortunately I can't really tell what I did, I think I did an Update via "Apple Software Update" an my PC crashed, I can't open up any Apple Software anymore. I can't open up iTunes - a message appears "that this action is only valid for products currently installed ". And the worst thing about this all is that I can't uninstall iTunes directly because there is no "uninstall information" and I can't (re)install iTunes or Quicktime or anything else because it is not possible for the installation-routine to uninstall the "old" versions neither...
An Idea: Is there any - let's say -hack to delete iTunes from my PC that the installation routine can be run correctly without trying to uninstall the old version of iTunes that isn't working anymore anyway?
I'd really appreciate some help because I'd like to use my new iPod that is just lying around for about three weeks now.....
    Thanks in advance... biboff.
PS: Of course I will provide additional information if needed.

    Dear Katrina,
thank you very much. Now iTunes is working again.... Sending many thanks to Redmond too... !! Before closing this thread as my problem is solved now, I'd like to update my experience with this MS tool "Windows Installer Clean Up Version 3" so the others users reading this thread might also be able to solve their probs.
So while first running this little "MS Install Clean Up" and deleting "iTunes", the iTunes Installation Routine broke up again afterwards, whilst installing QuickTime.
So I ran "MS Install Clean Up" again and deleted every Apple Product I could think of being connected to iTunes - so far I thought of "Apple Mobile Device Support", "Bonjour" and of course "QuickTime" since QuickTime-Installation was the drop-out of the Install Routine.
I hope I could add some additional information on this issue and again thank Katrina very much for her help. My question was answered and I am enjoying iTunes again at the time. I'm even thinking about switching over to Mac soon.... hopefully something like this doesn't happen on a mac. This even was written using SAFARI, so I'm almost there....
    Thanx.

  • Itunes no longer opening automatically when iphone connected

iTunes sees the iphone if I launch iTunesbut it no longer opens automatically.
could it be a preferences file problem?

Hmm if click the Apple >> system preferences >> users and groups >> login items, do you have itunes helper listed?
    You can also try this:
Open in Image Capture in /Applications with your iphone connected.  In the lower left, you'll see "connecting this iphone opens with" (if you don't see it, click the triangle/box icon to show it).  Click the menu >> select "Other" and navigate to itunes and choose that.  Quit Image Capture.
    Test.

  • Is it safe to download latest update from Apple to my iphone 4

The reason I ask, is that I amd many people had a problem with an software upgrade for the 3S and I have heard that similar problems have followed after downloading the latest update. Is it safe to download the latest version or will it slow my phone and cause battery life problems that I have heard so much about?

You only read about the problems here, because people who don't have problems don't usually post. Also, if you go back in time you will see that there are problem reports after every update for the past 5 years; if you take them seriously your phone would still be on iOS version 2.1.
A few people have problems after every update. And a few people have problems not associated with any update. If you update your phone will most likely work as well or better than it did before. If it doesn't you can almost always fix any issues that arise. To minimize the chance of a problem there are a few precautions you can take before updating:
Connect to a USB port directly on your computer to update if you are not updating over the air
If you are updating over the air connect the phone to power, and make sure you have a good charge level (>50%)
Reboot your computer just before updating if not over the air
Disable your antivirus just before updating if not over the air
If using your computer click the "Check for Update" button, then choose "Download Only". This way if the download fails your phone will still be usable. After the download completes click "Check for Update" again.
For both "tethered" and over the air updates do it at a time when you are unlikely to receive push email, calendar or contact updates
Kill all 3rd party apps (in the Quick Launch ribbon) that use Notifications just before updating
Except for the first 2 the rest are being extra careful, and will be unnecessary in most caes. But they won't do any harm either.

  • Updated my Apple ID, now cannot connect to iCloud.

Hi, I changed my Apple ID name to my new email address (with my existing one still linked in). However whenever i go to back up my iphone on iCloud, it asks for my iCloud password under my 'old' Apple ID. It is still the same ID, just a different name, yet it won't accept my password, so i cannot back up my phone. I am running the latest IOS and it is an iPhone 5. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sign out of iCloud, the sign in with the new ID/ Password.

  • Purchased movies not shown in itunes (but on Apple TV and iPhone 6)

    Hello,
I bought some movies on apple tv and they are shown correctly on iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.2) and Apple TV 3.
But I can't see them (the movies library is shown empty) in iTunes 12 on my MacBook Air (mid 2012, Yosemite 10.10.1).
My music is shown correctly with iTunes match so i don't think it's a problem with iCloud.
Any ideas what i can do to see my purchased movies in iTunes?
Thank you a lot and happy new year!!
    Peter

I've had this issue a couple of times on my Apple TV (3rd gen). I managed to get the newly matched content to show up a couple of times by editing the metadata for the album and then changing it back to the original (i.e. I changed the album title to add an 'X' to the end of it, then changed it back to the original) and it somehow triggered the iTunes Match on the Apple TV to update itself. I haven't really found a way to force Match on the Apple TV to update itself if it's being stubborn. Best of luck getting this sorted.

  • Can iTunes open and not iPhoto when iPhone connected?

When I connect my iPhone 5 to my iMac, iPhoto opens and I have to manually open iTunes. Is it possible to have iTunes open automatically and not iPhoto when I connect the iPhone?

Go to preferences of each program and set it up however you like.

  • How do you remove iTunes and other Apple products from my PC, manually?

    I just bought a $250 5th-gen iPod. But I can't install iTunes.
A while back, I think I just deleted the program folder or something, or maybe the the uninstaller just somehow broke on its own. In any case, the program folder is gone and the uninstaller doesn't work.
Running the iTunes installer gives me the following error:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below.
I did a search and found the iTunes.msi file in a temp folder. I selected it in the installer to try to solve the problem, but I received another error message:
The file "C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temp\IXP460.TMP\iTunes.msi" is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes. Try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes.
So, I uninstalled QuickTime and tried to manually remove every iTunes files and iTunes-related registry entry. No good.
When I run the iTunes installer now, it hangs\freezes when it gets to "Registering modules."
The only solution to the problem is a full manual uninstall.
I called Apple tech support and explained the problem, and they said that registry issues were a third-party problem, emailing me a tech support page I'd already read and suggesting I call Microsoft -- but oh, she said, make sure you don't tell them it's a problem with iTunes registry entries "or they'll refer you back to us."
Yes, because what the iTunes installer does to my PC is not a third-party issue.
I don't blame the tech support people, though, and I hope my post here doesn't lead to any of them being reprimanded.
Anyway, my request is simple: Someone, anyone, give me a list of every file and registry entry that Apple software adds to my computer, so I can remove it manually.

When I run the iTunes installer now, it hangs\freezes when it gets to "Registering modules."
hmmmmm. by any chance do you have SpyCatcher (or the version of GhostSurf platinum that contains SpyCatcher) on that PC?
if so, try uninstalling SpyCatcher altogether prior to the itunes install. if it goes through properly this time, launch itunes at least once prior to reinstalling SpyCatcher.
    see:
iTunes 7 or later for Windows Installation stops responding while "registering modules"

  • IMac and other Apple devices lose wireless connections

We have two Apple iMacs, a MacBook Pro, an iPad and iPad2 and they all intermittently lose their Wireless connection to my network.  All of my PC's work just fine and stay connected.  This is funny... the MacBook Pro booted to Windows 7 Pro stays connected, but the MacOS doesn't.
It appears to be a problem with DNS, because if you ping to a remote host, you get a response back.  Also, if you put an IP address into Safari on the iMac and MacBook then a site will come online.  However, the iPads just say "You are not connected" while in Safari.  I have verified that I'm using the correct DNS addresses provided by my ISP, and I have a Windows Domain server running DHCP/DNS on the inside of my firewall.
We recently moved and were issued a new wireless router by our ISP.  I was thinking that might be the problem, but then we don't have the problem with any of the Windows PCs.  This router is manufactured by Arris.  My other router was a Cisco that worked like a champ.
Turning off the Airport feature and turning it back on restores Web Browsing capability.  Interestingly, if I have a remote desktop session running, it never gets disconnected even when the web stops working.  Again, symptoms point to DNS issues.

If you feel it's DNS related then change the DNS setting to:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences

  • IPhone 5s stopped connecting to home wifi. Circle just spins in settings. Already tried to reset network settings. Other apple devices are connecting just fine.

I reset network settings. All other apple devices in home connect as intended. Circle in settings just keeps spinning next to connection but won't connect.

I have the same problem. I connect my iPhone 5 to my home wifi (airport express) and to a MiFi Jetpack at work everyday. After about 2 days the phone will no longer connect. I just get a spinning circle next to the wifi name. The same thing will happen at home and at work at the same time. I'll reset my network settings on my phone then I can connect to both wifi spots. After another couple of days the process repeats. Obviously it is not the airport express or Jetpack since it only affects my iphone and not anyone elses and the reset on the phone fixes it.
