Itunes update problem - missing file?

I've been trying to install the iTunes version 9.2 update, it doesn't get very far into it before i receive this message:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Bonjour64.msi' in the box below.
Use source: yadayadayada.. (and gives me the option to browse for another source where the stated file is)
I've looked through every file imaginable (yes, the recycling bin too) and can't seem to find it anywhere! there's another file it says it's missing 'appleapplicationsupport.msi' as far as i'm concerned, i haven't deleted any files related to Apple. I've tried uninstalling the program but it says that it can't because those files are missing, i tried redownloading it from the Apple website - same problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem/have any suggestions? thanks.

I was having this problem for a while and searched through a number of forums for the answer on how to locate .msi files that I must have accidentally deleted. I needed the .msi files because while attempting to uninstall the Apple Software Update another Apple related program from my Add or Remove Programs list I was getting an error similar to:
"The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the intallation package 'AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi' in the box below."
I followed these steps in order to locate the .msi and successfully uninstall:
1. Download the correct version of iTunesSetup.exe. This is the same version that you are attempting to delete on your computer. For me it was iTunes 9.1.1. (It is key that you download the same version you are attempting to remove!)
2. Install WinRAR: http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=winrar&tag=srch&searchtype=downl oads&filterName=platform%3DWindows,Webware&filter=platform%3DWindows,Webware
3. Run WinRAR and point it at the iTunesSetup.exe you downloaded in step 1. Extract the .exe to a folder.
4. Go to Add or Remove Programs and attempt to uninstall the broken Apple software.
5. When the uninstaller asks for the .msi, point it to the .msi file in the folder you extracted to in step 3.
Voilà! You should be able to successfully uninstall all your broken Apple applications this way, including QuickTime.

  • Update, restart, missing files

I just updated to itunes 12 because i have not updated in awhile, after the update, i restarted like it asked, but then when i tried to open itunes it had an error saying there was missing files and it couldn't open and to reinstall itunes, so i went to reinstall itunes and it said a later version of itunes was found. anybody else had this problem? also if you've fixed it, please tell me how.

This has just happened to me, and i am really annoyed ! I update and missing files, has happened to me before and i have un-install and install quicktime and itunes separately. So this, i should never update itunes again ?
Lizz88, what you have to do is locate where the original file/copy is. It is asking that because you moved the file to somewhere else.
For example, if i legally download a song, paste it into my desktop. Open it up with itunes and stick it in my library, then next day i moved it from the desktop, then itunes will ask to re-locate where the song is. So, wherever that song is find it, and locate it
If you deleted the file, then, i am not sure S:

    Me too.
I have looked at 2-3 other posts, and they still fail to resolve this.
I have reinstalled iTunes; I have repaired every other Apple component and ......
    Same message every time.
I am running fully updated Windows 8 (not 8.1 yet though)
Looking at the number of posts in this discussion group, it does appear to be something that Apple could take a more proactive lead on.  Either a more meaningful error message, or ideally a fully loaded iTunes installation.
COME ON GUYS - help us out here.
If it wasn't that I NEED iTunes to manage and backup my phone, I'd uninstall the %^$*&^ lot.   That said, my 4G upgrade to the iPhone 5S is now in serious doubt ... maybe a time for a complete change.

Sorry I gave this a 'this helped me' but after a long struggle I found some ticked box somewhere from some unauthorised chrome extension blaaa....... the link you gave was great, not only did it confirm all the bad things google is supposed to be up to it provided a better browser. Cheers man.
Anyone who find this; I disabled all extension in chrome. I then searched the word proxy in the settings section. A button came up, "change proxy settings" I clicked on it. Earlier it was greyed out as an extension was interefering.. It brought up a box with my own settings from my computer. Then I clicked LAN settings, then unchecked the 'Use a proxy server' button.
P.S. If you're using chrome, bail, and dowload Komodo Dragon. It's virtually identical, but you're not tracked, and you can use chrome extensions, and you can quickily transfer your chrome preferences into it.

  • ITunes update problem leading to a Windows NTLDR error

I also experienced the "MCVCR80.dll is missing" / "Error 7, Windows error 126" iTunes update error like almost everyone else.  I followed turingtest2's solution that has been posted in the countless threads on this problem (e.g. <a href="https://discussions.apple.com/message/24618776#24618776" >https://discussions.apple.com/message/24618776#24618776</a>);  really, turingtest2's solution is coming from Apple's own <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923" >HT1923</a> &amp; <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925" >HT1925</a> articles.
My computer would not reboot, though!  I got the error, "NTLDR IS MISSING", which indicates a *major* operating system problem.  In trying to troubleshoot this problem, I've gotten myself into a real mess:  it looks like I may have inadvertently wiped Windows and perhaps all my installed applications off my hard drive, in effect taking me back to my new out of the box state in 2005!!
I had Windows XP SP3 with all current updates installed, along with the Apple software needed to support my iPod Touch 3 and my iPad 3.
    Here's what I did:
    (1) I removed the applications in the order turingtest2 stated, running into the anticipated problem with Apple Mobile Device Support but pressing on as suggested.
    (2) After uninstalling the final application, Apple Application Support, I retried uninstalling Apple Mobile Device Support one more time, but it failed to uninstall again, so I just pressed on.
    (3) Because Apple Mobile Device Support failed to uninstall, I decided to check out the <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925" >HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP</a> article per turingtest2's suggestion, and did the extra step of making sure that iTunes and its related components are completely uninstalled.
    (4) That included manually removing the Apple Mobile Device Support subfolder from the Common Files folder, that I assumed was still around because Apple Mobile Device Support failed to fully uninstall (btw I did NOT have any problem with iPodService being removed).
    (5) I rebooted my computer.
    (6) During that reboot process, as my computer was trying to load Windows from my hard drive, on a black screen appeared:  "NTLDR IS MISSING, PRESS CTRL-ALT-DELETE TO RESTART".
    (7) No other key press worked, so I did a ctrl-alt-delete, and the computer rebooted and then just displayed the same 'ntldr is missing' message.
    (8) I did a forced shutdown (by holding in the power button) and turned on my computer again, just to get the same ntldr message.
    (9) I used my iPad to research that message on the Internet, and found that I may be missing a couple of operating system files (ntldr &amp; ntdetect.com) on my hard drive, which I can reload from my original Windows CDs .  But like with most PC owners, my computer didn't come with any such CDs, though I did create Recovery CDs at home as advised (the ones I found in my desk were SP3 luckily).
    (10) So I followed <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/ntldrmissingxp.htm" >the Internet instructions</a> of inserting 'the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer", rebooting the computer (I first verified that my BIOS is set to boot from a CD before my main hard drive), and pressing the "R" key to repair Windows.
    (11) The remainder of the instructions would have had me then logging into Windows and copying the two before-mentioned files off the CD and into the root directory of my hard drive.  But it didn't let me do that.  Instead it just began automatically restoring Windows off the CD and onto my hard drive.
    (12) Once that started, I didn't dare attempt to intervene.
    (13) When it finished, it had me reboot.
    (14) After loading, Windows displayed the first screen of the newly installed Windows setup procedure, a screen that I have seen many times on computers at work that I have reformatted hard drives on and installed a fresh Windows on (I served as my small (20-employees) company's network administrator because, though technically a novice relative to most network gurus, as an experienced computer programmer I knew the most about computers there).
    (15) Afraid of taking another step forward, I haven't gone past that first screen.  This is where I'm at right now.
I'm scared of going further because I don't know what Recovery has done to this point.  I assume it would leave all my data files alone, though that wouldn't be a catastrophe, since I do full and incremental backups to an external drive.  But has it in fact already reinstalled whatever the Windows it had on that CD overtop of the Windows on my hard drive?  Has it already wiped all my installed applications from my hard drive?  Or will it do any of this in the steps following this first screen?  Can I avert a catastrophe or is it already too late?
If I were a regular user it would still be a big problem.  But as a guy who makes his living with his computer, it is a catastrophe. Yes, I have all my original purchased software CDs.  But I also have accumulated dozens if not hundreds of freeware software programs.
I don't know which of Apple's steps to uninstall iTunes caused my problem, but of course one of them did, in combination with my unique computer's state.  Please, turingtest2 and others, if you can help me, I would so appreciate it.  And of course it would be best if we can find a solution to avoid others potentially having the same problem.
    Thank you,
    Gary Schankula (Canada)

  • HT201210 update has missing file, msvcr80.dll

Itunes was working fine till Apple requested to update to the latest version.  After it updated to 11.1.4 it now complains about missing file MSVCR80.dll and will not start up.  Is there an older version still avaiable somewhere that I can back up to.

I read that there are a lot of us having the problem and the cure is the deinstallation and reinstall of the files listed in latter discussion.  It works and I am back with Itunes.  Thanks for the good info.

  • I'm unable to uninstall or reinstall itunes because of missing files.

I've been having trouble for about three months with installing updates and I had the last straw today so i decided to uninstall and reinstall itunes. I went to the control panel, but it wouldn't let me uninstall because of missing files. I've tried deleting the files manually and that hadn't worked either.

  • ITunes Update Removed All File Associations in iTunes

This is ridiculous. I installed the latest iTunes update and when I opened iTunes, all of my music was gone. Did this happen to you?
I found a way to fix this problem. Your music should still be in MyDocuments/iTunes in individual folders for your artists. All you need to do is import the entire iTunes folder and it should work. This should also include your Podcasts.
What this won't do, however, is re-associate your purchases and downloads.

  • Latest iTunes update problems with repeated error messages every 65 seconds??

After this mornings' update of iTunes.  Problems with Applemobiledeviceservices.exe.  Error message every 65 seconds - software exception (oxc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812fd3.
    How do I stop this?

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • ITunes Updating Problem

    Hey,
I;m trying to update my model or iTunes from 7.2.0.35 to 7.3, it updates everything like quicktime and security but when it gets to updating iTunes it says "A later version of iTunes is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue." So any help or clues on what I should do ??
    Cheers

    kia ora, Jack.
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. (Launch CleanUp, find any iTunes or QuickTime entries in the List that displays in CleanUp, and remove those iTunes and QuickTime entries.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • Post-backup problems: missing files

    Hi guys!
I just reinstalled OSX (but saved everything to the "Previous System" on my Mac HD), but many of my GB projects are missing files - where and how can I get them back?
    Thanks!
    Alec

Yosemite is very buggy.. network side and time machine are both in the poor category. Or the most and worst bugs.
    Did you upgrade install Yosemite?
Did you start a fresh TM backup after you installed.
When you say it is not backing up all the files what size is the whole sparsebundle.. check it by mounting in finder??
If it is in fact larger than 350GB it should be backing up everything.. but has display issues.. this is what most users are finding.. TM is in fact backing up but it refuses to display the backups.
Someone recently posted the method of getting Yosemite to display backups.
    Find files in Yosemite.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6681850?searchText=time%20machine%20yosemit e#27139370
While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
Also note.. yosemite is dog slow.. over wireless.. the dog is overweight dachshund, dragging its belly over the ground. You need to be patient. Like many hours patient.
If all this gets you nowhere.. a strong possibility with Yosemite.
Let me suggest you either do a new TM backup to an external drive.. if you are currently using a TC. You haven't given a target.. but if you already use an External drive.. start a new one.. or wipe and start fresh with the old drive..
    OR
Buy a third party reliable backup.. mostly all of them are.. I use Carbon Copy Cloner and suits very well.. it is fairly cheap at $40 and can be used on all the computers in your household.. it can create bootable clones.. once you have used one.. you will see it has huge advantages over the TM method.
But I do still use both.. CCC for occasional bootable clones and TM to TC.. but then.. I don't use Yosemite. As it is still not up to standard. and when installed onto my network caused utter and complete chaos.

  • Music & iTunes Update Problem

    Hi Everyone,
I'm soooo hoping that someone here can help me out. I'm totally stumped and have no idea what else to try.
I plugged my iPhone 3GS into my pc the the day before yesterday to clean up my music and clear off some of the apps. I started by deleting all my music so that I could start again. I also asked it to transfer any purchases that I'd made over to iTunes.
It wouldn't transfer the purchases, I don't remember if I got an error or not, I know I should have taken note but I didn't think much of it at the time. Then I tried putting music on my phone. Things went alright for a little bit and then I started getting errors telling me that it couldn't read the disk (I'm pretty sure that's what it said) and then it was telling me that my music files were corrupt, yet the music that I was transferring has been in my iTunes since I bought my phone a couple of years ago. I checked all the music and it was all playing fine and the files weren't missing or anything like that.
I unplugged my phone and checked my music and there was nothing there. When it's plugged in it shows there is music but as soon as I unplug it, no music. This kept happening over and over. I didn't get any error numbers or anything like that, so I googled my problem found the most common solutions were to update my iTunes (which I did need to do though I didn't realise) and to delete my photo cache. I couldn't download the latest iTunes because I didn't have any internet at home and for some reason it just wouldn't download on my friends internet when I connected to her wifi through my laptop. I went to the Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel and did a repair of iTunes aswell.
After deleting the photo cache and doing the repair though, I plugged my phone and it worked fine. Got a bunch of music on there. I thought the problem was fixed, so yesterday afternoon I sat down to put the rest of the music on and the problem started all over again.
So today, after finally getting some internet credit (I'm on a prepaid plan) I downloaded the latest iTunes and went to install it. I wouldn't work. All got was the pop up telling me it couldn't verify the program and I did I want to run it. Clicked 'yes' and nothing happens. Tried again by right clicking and running as admin, still nothing. Deleted that copy and re-downloaded another. Still the same problem. Tried updating through iTunes itself and got an 'invalid signature error'.
Here is what else I've done to try and resolve the problem:
    Turned off my firewall.
    Rebooted my computer.
Followed the instructions on this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/5892486#5892486
I've been using Chrome to download iTunes so I'm now about to follow the instructions from this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1406 to see if that makes any difference.
If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be pushy, I'm just giving this a quick bump in the hopes that it's seen a bit more...plus, I wanted to add a quick update.
I used IE 9 (I think it is, the latest IE) to download iTunes, instead of clicking save I clicked 'run' and when it finished downloading it told me it was an unsafe file and wouldn't run it. I wouldn't even give me the option to ignore IE's opinion and run it anyway. So I'm now off to my friends to see if I can get it to download using her internet and see if that makes any difference.
Also, if I were to update to the latest firmware using my current iTunes (which is 4.2.2 I think) would that possibly make a difference or would it more than likely just create more problems? What about restoring my phone through my current iTunes, would that possibly work?
    Thanks again.
