ITunes update to 10.5.3 does nothing
OS: Win7 x64
current iTunes version: 10.3.1.55
In iTunes when I click on Help > check for updates a newer version is found, 10.5.3. I click on Download iTunes and diaglog box goes away. Nothing happens after that, no error, no progress bar, nothing.
I have disabled AV and run iTunes as an Admin, still does nothing.
I've reparied the Apple Software Update under Programs and Features, stil nothing.
Any suggestions?
I've downloaded 10.5.3, if I run the install over the top of the current iTunes folder will it upgrade that way?
When going through the iTunes program installed on my machine it does not download the new version. I click on Help > check for updates a newer version is found, 10.5.3. I click on Download iTunes and diaglog box goes away. Nothing happens after that, no error, no progress bar, nothing.
When I went to the iTunes webpage I was able to download 10.5.3 for Win7 x64, but when I run it from that download it appears to be trying to install fresh as opposed to update what I already have.
So, if I run the version I got from the iTunes website and install it to where iTunes is installed on my machine will it update the version I have or overwrite it?
I'm hoping the manual update will correct the failure of the update within the program itself.

The question apparently needs to be typed in twice... good work. Here it is again:
I cannot install iTunes updates as of today. Does anyone have any idea what changed with iTunes? Is this a distinct issue from the 42404?
If so, are you getting an error message when you try to install iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.) -

Wow what a pile of crap you must wade through to ask a question .
Ok so the problem is I did an update on my IPad and now it does nothing but show a graphic showing the power cable connecting to ITunes
So I connect iPad to my IMac and prompt iTunes nothing happens. So I try sinc nothing happens.
So I try restore and the popup says I am not eligible for restore.
What is going on with this stupid machineMachines are incapable of being stupid. Not so of their operators.
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
* If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information. -
Trying to do a software update, but my macbook pro does nothing after it prompts me to restart
I am trying to do a software update on my Macbook Pro so I can update the new iTunes so I can start using my new iPod. Every time I go through the process of the computer searching for updates and confirming there are software updates, then being prompted to restart my computer, it does nothing. After my Macbook Pro turns on again, nothing pops up and I go into my information and it says I still have the old software. Nothing is prompting me to do the update after I restart my computer, or beforehand for that matter. HELP.
Are you really still running 10.6.2? If Software Update isn't working for you, you may want to try using the 10.6.8 combo update found here -->> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399.
If that doesn't work, call back...

My ipod touch is saying its disabled and to connect to itunes but when i do that it does nothing, what can i do to fix it??
If your iPod has been disabled due to multiple incorrect passcode attempts, restore the iPod from the computer to which the iPod is synced. For information and instructions, see:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the iPod into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:

ITunes update version 10.6.3 does not load after selecting "download"
iTunes finds update 10.6.3, I select the download and nothing happens. Have not had this problem before.
(apologies, kipwil. This is a side note for wha.)
Some interesting observations on this by markarich over here, wha:
Re: apple software update in windows help!!!!
My thoughts there:
In the normal course of events, SoftwawareUpdate.exe is not set to run as an administrator.
In the normal course of events, if SoftwareUpdate.exe is set to run as administrator, then the Apple Software Update.lnk compatibility mode tab should also be showing that ASU has been set to run as an administrator. So it's not clear why a discrepancy was being seen there.
(Granted, if we've dealing with weird permissions **** here then the symptoms ought to be a bit weird, by definition.) -
Clicking on "View more information about this update" for 31.5.0 does nothing
I got a pop-up today that Thunderbird 31.5.0 is available. I clicked on "View more information about this update" because that usually takes me to the release notes and I prefer to read about updates and download and install them myself, rather than have the system do it for me. (I do this so I can save previous versions in case I run into a problem with the latest and want to go back.) But when I clicked on "View more information about this update" nothing happened. It didn't switch over to the browser nor start loading the release notes.
About 5-10 minutes after I had clicked on "View more information about this update" a few times (and had manually gone to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/31.5.0/releasenotes/ and downloaded and was in the process of installing the new release), my browser opened up three tabs on that page. I guess it was just a very delayed response.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Thanks. I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data. Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.
