ITunes update trashed my itune.  Get error messages. Can't burn to CD

Windows XP Home SP3 on a Dell Pentium 4. 2G RAM. iTunes 10.3.1.55. iPod 4 Gen (32G)
I got the recent iTunes update request from Apple two days ago and downloaded/installed.  Got a Windows Warning that the install had not passed the Windows Logo testing for XP, but accepted anyway as Apple said the update was for my computer.  When I reopened iTunes I got the following warning:
ITunes connects with my iPod and it can read an import audio CDs, but it cannot burn a playlist to a CD.  It says no audio CD found.  I did a CD/DVD diagnostic test, inserted a prerecorded CD as requested and got the following screen:
I quit iTunes and did a System Restore with no discernable change.  I then tried to do a Repair of iTunes.  Near the end of the Repair cycle, the following
screen came up:
I have done at least a dozen Repairs, Uninstall/Reinstalls including the complete Uninstall including QuickTime, Bonjour, etc. as per the Apple Knowledge base.  I have done the uninstall of Gear software using both the manual method and the uninstall software tool on their site (Note that the registry entries and files that they said need to be removed, did not exist on my computer).  Each time I tried the reinstallation (both of Gear and iTunes), I got the above message concerning the DVD/CD-ROM drives software not being verified for XP.
I am at my wits' end here.  Can anyone save me.

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
download iTunes again from Apple.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.
Windows is notorious for having "other" issues that make it unstable, we as volunteers helping others can't always resolve those issues.

What can I do to download updated itunes. I get error message can't locate "itunes.msi." folder.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Deleted items from Ipod Nano to make room for new. Emptied trash. Still getting error message when I try to copy items from ITunes to Ipod. What should I do now?

Deleted items from Ipod Nano to make room for new. Emptied trash. Still getting error message when I try to copy items from ITunes to Ipod. What should I do now?

If you delete songs (and other items) from the main iTunes library, yes, you need to empty the Trash because iTunes puts the song files into the Trash.  When deleting items from an iPod, the items are not being deleted from the main iTunes library, so nothing should end up in the Trash.
Hopefully, you are not deleting items from your main iTunes library, just to sync those deletions from the iPod.  If you are, there is a better way.  You can post back if you want more info...

im trying to download itunes 10.5 but keep getting error message that says: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A problem run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. I am using windows XP 32 bit, all the other computers in my house downloaded just fine, no problems, however this is the computer my iphone is set up to, ive tried doing a virus scan, windows update, downloading other things, updating everything possible, everything works fine, its just itunes that wont download, anyone have any other ideas?

Yes, I had found a similar solution also.  I'm running XP Pro, SP3.  I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair.  Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess.  Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes.  Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing.  I haven't begun to work on that.

  • When I try to instal latest version of iTunes onto my computer I get error messages, and then the only way for me to access iTunes is to do a System Restore to and earlier restore point

When I try to install the latest version of iTunes, during the installation I get error messages saying that a program is trying to change registry and the installation is stopped.
After this happens the only way that I can open iTunes is to do a 'system restore' to an earlier time.
Has anyone else experienced this and can you help?

Could you please post the exact text of the error message or provide a screenshot?
There is advice on issues with the update at  Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates. One of the entries in the further information section refers to a possible registry permissions problem which might be what you are seeing.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if AAS won't install normally.

I am trying to activate new itunes card. I am getting error message: The code you have entered has not been properly activated. Does this mean the store did something wrong or me?

Yes, the store didn't properly activate the card. If the store is nearly then you could try going back and asking them to do so, if it isn't (or if they can't/won't help) then try contacting iTunes Support (you will probably need to give them images of the front and back of the card, and possibly its receipt) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes

This seems to work for some users ...go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Restart the iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut down. Hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears to power up again.
    Then try again.

  • Had to uninstall Firefox, now I can't reinstall. Get error message "Can not find archive file." Please help!

I believe I had some kind of virus attack. I got everything cleaned up. (I HOPE) In the process of cleaning the virus, I unintalled Firefox because it wouldn't open. Kept getting the error message that Firefox was already open and I had to close out of the sessions or restart the computer. After restarting the computer several times and not being able to find any open sessions in task manager, I uninstalled. When trying to reinstall, I get the error message "can not find archive file." I've tried downloading Firefox from cnet as well as the Mozilla site to no avail. Please help. I'm getting tired of using Chrome already!

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.
