ITunes upgrade fails

Every attempt to install iTunes upgrades since 0.1.0.79 has failed. It was suggested to download and install manually. This also fails. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

“Error writing the file c:\Program Files\Quick Time\QTTask.exe ... Verify that you have access to that directory”
That's consistent with disk/file damage, Markos.
Let's first try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's instructions and a guided help in the following Microsoft document:

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, are you able to successfully reinstall QuickTime afterwards?

  • ITunes upgrade fails due to QuickTime

I tried to upgrade my iTunes to version 9.3.xx. Unfortunately the upgrade failed. The application since then is not opened and the following error message appeared.
    “Error writing the file c:\Program Files\Quick Time\QTTask.exe
Verify that you have access to that directory”
I followed all the support suggestions uninstalling all the Apple applications and re-installed them back but with no luck. The above message appears every time iTune is trying to install QuickTime and as iTunes needs QuickTime the whole upgrade fails.
Any suggestion how I can solve this issue?

  • ITunes upgrade failed on Vista  PC,  I now have no Itunes

I had a working installation of Itunes and Quicktime on my Vista PC. The only problem was on each launch I was greeted with a message that a new version was available and presented with an option to upgrade. The upgrade always failed with a message that I should try the stand-alone installer. Also failed to upgrade. I uninstalled ITunes (from add/remove SW) hoping a new install would be the answer. Unistall worked fine. Itunes is gone.
New install does not succeed. It ends on a message:
    “Error getting file security: C:\ProgramData\Apple\Computer\Installer Cache\Quicktime 7.55.90.70\ GetLastError:5”
Followed by “Rolling Back Actions” and “The Installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime.”
I have a working installation of QuickTime version 7.5.5. It opens without error from the default install location. However, attempts to ‘Update Existing Software’ fail with the same “Error getting file security…” message and “Rolling back…” message. Same response on attempting to uninstall QuickTime from Add/Remove Software.
Where I previously had a working version of iTunes with only an annoying popup message, I now have no iTunes at all. I do have a working down rev QuickTime (that I cannot remove) but that is of no use to me without iTunes.
I need help to remove QuickTime so I can proceed from ground zero. I assume this is likely a Windows registry issue. I am competent to maker registry edits but not by trial and error. I need more knowledgeable advice on how to proceed.
    Thanks

Just a thought, but maybe consider returning the device.  Seems it might be a bit too complicated for you.

    Hi there willjay3976,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open

  • On Windows 7 PC, got the "upgrade iTunes" notice, said sure, but the upgrade failed, now I can't access iTunes "invalid permissions"

On Windows 7 PC, got the "upgrade iTunes" notice this morning, said sure, but the upgrade failed, now I can't access iTunes "invalid permissions"
I wasn't paying attention so I don't know the precise error I got on the upgrade failure.
All other iTunes upgrades have been fine...no brainers.  Done several on this W7 PC.
If I re-download and install a fresh iTunes I assume I will lose my library...true?  Can I find and save off my library so I don't have to "discover" all my music which is scattered all over the PC and a 1T attached USB drive.
Or is there some way to get the iTunes upgrade to successfully restart and install correctly?
    Help!

    Hello there, Konami84.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some recomendations for troubleshooting:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Help needed: iPhone 4 software upgrade failed many times

Hello. I've bought an iPhone 4, which its operating system is 4.3, and was prompt by iTunes about this iPhone 4 software upgrade to iOS 4.3.5. I've downloaded the software and waiting for quite some time and after the dowloading has completed, the file will be processed. After processing, there is a popup saying that somehow the software upgrade failed and said something like make sure that your connection is correct etc. Do you have any idea on how to solve this issue?
Help me, please. Thank you very much.

  • ITunes Upgrade results in no access to ITunes Store

I've recently downloaded the latest version of Itunes (9.2.1.5) as since doing so I cannot access the ITunes Store. Prior to downloading this laterst version, I had no trouble with access. I've tried deleting the download and re-installing it, and I've tried just reinstalling it to "repair" any damaged or fragmented files. Nothing helps. I've tried rebooting, I've tried closing Itunes and re-opening, and I've tried clicking on Podcasts and then on Itunes Store. Again, nothing helps. The error I get is:
"ITunes could not connect to the Itunes Store. Network Connection timed out."
I ran the diagnostic and my connection to the internet was fine, the only red line failure I got was:
"Secure link to Itunes Store failed."
Everything else was fine. Again, I've never had this problem on this machine with any previous downloads.
I performed the download Saturday evening, so I thought that maybe Itunes Store was off line for maintenance or some other reason. But, at mid-day on Sunday, I'm still having the same issue, so I doubt it is the store. I've tried everything I can find on-line, and the bottom line is, nothing lets me have access to the Store.
In downloading the newer version of Itunes, I wasn't able to access it by opening the Itunes application. When I opened Itunes, I would get the dialogue box asking if I wanted to download the latest version of Itunes. When I clicked on the response to download the latest version, the dialogue box disappeared, but nothing was downloaded. So, I went to the Itunes webpage and downloaded from there.
I was doing other things on the computer while Itunes downloaded the new version, and it could have sat waiting for a response for some time. But, I had an active connection to the internet the whole time, and have not been without access since.
Basically, I'd like to know how to regain access to the Itunes Store with this latest version of Itunes. As a fallback, I'd like to revert back to my latest version that worked fine.
I'd be grateful for any help you can offer.
These are my system specs and the results of the last diagnostic.

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? There have been reports that some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from connecting. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).
Check the settings for your utility. If iTunes is still listed, remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes. Consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure. If you have Norton, you can find instructions for that utility on Symantec's web page for iTunes. You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error message after iTunes upgrade

    The error message reads:
"The attempt to burn the disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
    What does this mean?
I am using the same discs as I always have. I just installed the latest upgrade. version 6.0.5
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Well, I thought that the iTunes upgrade had something to do with my inability to burn CDs. I can't say for sure that was the case but I do know that what fixed my problem (if you can believe this) was installing the QuickTime update. I'm thinking that the iTunes update corrupted something, but installing the QT update corrected the problem. Now I can burn with no problems whatsoever. You may want to give it a try.

  • HT203163 I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; as secure link to itunes store failed. I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works.....

I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; it displays the message under diagnostics 'secure link to itunes store failed'.
I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works......
    Please help.

Update:  I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?

  • Iphone 3.1 upgrade failed, unable to restore my iphone, Apple has no clue !

I never expected that from Apple. Tried upgrading my 3G to 3.1, upgrade failed, started restoring, but restore failed as well giving me error 1002 and USB and itunes logo. Opened ticket with Apple support, they had no clue, referred me to apple store, where they tried to restore it back twice, but in vain. Phone being out of warranty, they gave me no option but to pay $200 bucks to replace with new phone. I DONT deserve this from apple. I am not going accept no for an answer from apple.
    This is breaking the trust!

I finally got through to my carrier 3s support and the news is not good. Apparently 3.1 is not backward compatible and will not restore to previous versions. If tomorrow I am not successful at trying to restore the phone to the current 3.1 release on 3's machines, the phone will stay dead and be replaced.
After being an apple customer for just over a month now, I am already sorry for leaving Nokia's faithful service and buying this friggan overcharged toy! Even with 3.0.1 I had sync trouble, sluggish performance and bad reception!
So please, what is the response from Apple as to why their firmware upgrade is bricking so many of their phones? Surely, it can't be just server problems! Anyone?
