  • Itunes Updating Issue iMac OS 10.6.8

Ever since updating my iPhone5 to OS7, I have been unable to sync my phone to iTunes, obviously because of the requirement to install iTunes 11.1
I am currently using iTunes 11.0.2.  I have tried multiple times over the past month to download 11.1 and each time I download, go through the install process, get confirmation that the install was successful, re-launch iTunes and it is STILL 11.0.2, thus leaving me unable to sync my phone.
I have tried checking for a software update from the OS update menu, and it says there are no updates. Checking for updates within iTunes itself says that I need to upgrade to 11.1 but any attempt to download either thru iTunes or direct from iTunes.com results in the same sequence described above.
Launching iTunes direct from the application folder rather than the dock, has no impact.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
btw iMac 2007ish - running 10.6.8 snow leopard

Indeed it does.  Closing iTunes again and clicking on the 2nd of the results seemed to finish the application in some way and I am now up to date.  Thanks so much!

  • Yosemite upgrade issue - iMac freeze and cannot boot again

    Dear all,
Two days ago I updated my iMac 27" (mid 2011) from OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion to 10.10 Yosemite.
Clean installation was done via USB, 3 user created one admin and 2 standard users (all with the option increase contrast option on). The following software installed:
    Adobe Lightroom 5.7
    Datacolor Spyder4Elite 4.5.8 (monitor calibration)
    Microsoft Office 2011
    PlayOnMac 4.2.5
    iMovie 2.1.1
    VLC 2.1.5
    Google Chrome
After one day I had the first strange reboot, but than it seemed working fine.
Today while using it, something strange happened: the image on the screen "shifted" 5cm to the left, meaning that the 5cm on the left of the screen were moved to the right and than everything freezed. With a power off I rebooted.
Thinking the issue was related to the screen I uninstalled and removed Spyder4Elite.
I rebooted and it was working fine.
After a while, the screen went almost completely blank, I could see the very top first 3/4 pixels and recognize the top bar. Nothing. After a while I forced a reboot.
I tried to reboot, but the same appears. I turned it off for a bit.
Turinig it on again the following happened:
    Boot screen
    White screen flickering black
    Black screen
    White screen
    Reboot
White screen stating the the computer restarted after an error
Boot screen with pink vertical lines (see image below)
    White screen
    Black screen
    Reboot
    Start again at #7
    Image for #7:
    Image for #8:
I then turned everything off and disconnected the plug as well. After turning on again now everything starts directly at point #7 into an infinite loop.
I tried to start and hold "D" key for the diagnostic tools. Nothing happens boot and whitescreen.
If I hold the option key I can select the boot options, choosing Recovery 10.10.1, white screen appears and than reboot again.
    Does anyone know what happened?
Does anyone else had a similar issue?
Is there a way to run diagnostic tool to check hardware failures?
Is there a way to browse the HD content to save a file?
    Any other suggestions or ideas?
The only thing I have, is the USB key with Yosemite on it.
Fortunately on the external HD I still have the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app": is there a way to create a bootable USB key of Mountain Lion using windows?
Thank you for your kind support,

Before deciding that you can't replace the drive yourself, visit the following site and find the step by step instructions for replacing the drive yourself:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
If you see the instructions and feel that you can replace the drive yourself, you will save money that way. I'm not that familiar with modern iMacs, but I know it was very easy to replace the drive in my old iMac. It may not be as hard to do as you think. If you want extra help, you can post questions on the iMac forum.
If you still don't feel like it is something you can do yourself, try looking for an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your area and see what it might cost to have the AASP do the replacement. Often an AASP can do a repair for less money than Apple, and they will usually be willing to install a drive that you have obtained elsewhere for a reasonable price. From what I have read on these forums, many people have used AASP's to install bigger and faster drives on their machines.
Definitely contact Western Digital about your drive. Usually WD drives come with a 3 year warranty, and if the drive fails before then, WD will replace the drive. KT has mentioned that the drive apparently is not under warranty, but might qualify for some sort of an upgrade. Before shopping elsewhere, check to see if this upgrade might entitle you to a very good deal on a replacement drive or something of that nature.
    Good luck!

  • RESOLUTION.!!!..Motoroloa SLVR/iTunes Upgrade Issues

After weeks of frustration after realizing my Motorola SLVR phone was no longer recognized by iTunes when plugged into my computer..I finally have a resolution. Surprisingly it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be after reading the numerous threads here. After spending about 15-20 minutes on the phone with Motorola my problem was solved. Of course I was frustrated with having to do everything I had already done (remove the battery/memory card/sim card; restarted my computer), but the reformatting of my memory card fixed whatever the issue was. If you want to try it yourself..just:
    1. Go to menu (top middle button)
    2. Go to settings
    3. Go to phone status
    4. Go to storage devices
    5. Select card
    6. Press menu (top middle button)
    7. Select format
I’m almost sure I remember this is what I did...But in the event you try it and it does not work...Call Motorola...They’ll walk you through it. 1.800.657.5778

Do I judt keep replying back to the same person or keep submitting NEW requests till I get this resolved?
Either or both. That's what I had to do when I had a similar issue back when the iTunes Store first was shifting all the music to iTunes Plus. It can be frustrating, I know, to deal with the "canned" responses, particularly when they seem totally inapplicable to the question, but patience and persistence is the only avenue; there is no other contact point.

  • Itunes 10 does not 'see' my iphone after upgrading my Imac to Snow leopard

    Hi,
I just upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard 10.6.3. When I plug my iphone (4) (USB), Itunes does not sync my phone, and it does not even appear as being connected to my iMac. I dont have any other issues.
I should add that I always have connected my Iphone through the USB on the keyboard, as I dont have enough USB slots in the back. This has worked just fine in the past. The keyboard is wired.

Try plugging it into one of the USB ports on the Mac itself and see if that works.

  • Multiple Issues with iTunes on New iMac

    Hello Apple Community,
I recently bought a 27" iMac with 3.1Ghz i5 processor running on Snow Leopard and finally set it up.  I have owned many Macs in the past and currently have been using a 5 year old 15" MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard that has been running flawlessly but I needed something with a bit more processing power.  When I first took my iMac out of the box I went ahead and used the Migration Assistant to move my applications and files over from my MacBook Pro but after multiple attempts I had to stop and simply move the music, document, and photo data on to a portable hard drive while I got the Migration Assistant to move the applications.  I simply moved the old iTunes music folder over to my new iMac and replaced the iTunes folder on my iMac.  The new iMac has already been authorized through my iTunes account and the music will play.  Now here are my current issues.
When I play a song on iTunes, there appears to be a random amount of fade-in and/or crossfade when I switch playing songs.  I have checked the playback preferences and crossfade is not checked.  Some songs the crossfade will take a second while sometimes it will be as much as 10 seconds of crossfade.  On my MacBook with the identical library and settings, it does not have these issues.
The other issue I have been experiencing is if iTunes has been open and my computer sits for a little while (usually after awaking from sleep or even listening to a few songs without touching the keyboard, the songs will stop playing on their own and when I press the play button, it begins to "play" the track but there is no sound coming from iTunes.  I have checked the volume slider in iTunes and it is still at max volume while all other applications still work and output sound.  iTunes will only work properly if I close it and re-open it.
The final issue is similar to the last one in that when I try and play previews in the iTunes Music store it will not play but when I hit the play button iTunes will then appear to be "playing" but no sound from either the store or any of my songs from the Library.
iTunes works perfectly fine on my MacBook Pro and it does have any of these issues.  Both Macs are currently running iTunes 10.4.1.  All songs in each library are checked and will play to a degree.
I have deleted iTunes and all corresponding library files, (basically anything with iTunes in the name) and tried to reinstall iTunes and used multiple methods to replace the music files including using Home Sharing, a portable Hard Drive, and dragging and dropping the music files from the shared folder and no matter what I try, I still cannot get iTunes on my iMac to work properly.  I have been searching around the support forums for others who might have had this issue but I cannot seem to find much.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had not tried that before, but from your suggestion, I went ahead and did it and it seems to have gotten rid of the crossfade issues I was experiencing but whenever I try and listen to a preview in the iTunes music store it still does not appear to be working.  Also, I was testing a number of tracks and it seems like there are a few tracks in particular that will make iTunes stop playing when I click on them and then if I attempt to play something else, iTunes says it is playing but no sound is coming from it.
What I have found that is interesting is the first time I ran the Disk Utility it repaired a HUGE number of misc. files.  After running it and still experiencing problems I tried to run it again but this time the files were not as numerous and were all within the /Library/CoreServices menu.  Each subsequent time I ran the Disk Utility and rebooted, I tried to run the Disk Utility again and the same files seem to still be having the same issues.  This is just an example of one of the files I have been having an issue with.
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/zh_TW.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib" , should be drwxr-xr-x , they are -rwxr-xr-x .
    Repaired "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/zh_TW.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib" .
One in particular gave me a Warning and said it could not be repaired.  I'm not sure if it is important to repair but I still seem to be having some issues here and there.  Here is the message from the Disk Utility regarding the file in question.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

  • After upgrading to Imac updating Iphone and Ipad I can no longer sync in Itunes

I have newly upgraded to IMac and love it! I also traded in my IPad to IPad Air and updated my IPhone from 4S to 5C. When I was using a Windows PC I had all my gadgets synced to ITunes (this includes a MacBook Pro and two IPods, Yes I'm hooked). Now I can no longer sync any of my gadgets to ITunes on the new IMac.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • I have recently upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8 and now find that the upload photo to Facebook facility no longer works. I have reset Safari but this has not resolved the issue - any suggestions?

I have recently upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8 and now find that the upload photo to Facebook facility no longer works. I have reset Safari but this has not resolved the issue - any suggestions? I can click on the "upload photos/video" field and it takes me to Finder to select the photo - but on selecting the photo, the Finder screen disappears as normal but from then on nothing happens.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
    Now empty the Safari cache.
Back to the menu bar, click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
Quit and relaunch Safari then try Facebook.
If that doesn't help, it may be a Safari extension preventing you from uploading content to Facebook.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

    MacKeeper is utter garbage!!!!
Before even attempting an OS X upgrade, completely remove this serious "crapware" from your system!!!!!

  • WiFi self assigned IP and no internet connection after OS & iTunes upgrade

I have two likely related issues that started as a direct result of upgrading to OS X 10.8.5 and/or iTunes 11:
Starting tonight, after upgrading my OS and iTunes I am no longer able to use Home Sharing between my iMac and Apple TV. Apple TV is logged in to my network and Home Sharing is on, on both devices (signed in to the same account), but Apple TV says Home Sharing is not connecting to my iMac. My iPhone 5 is also not showing a Home Sharing connection.
I've restarted both my iMac and Apple TV several times. Logged in and out several times. Turned Home Sharing off/on several times, power cycled and reset my network modem once.
While trouble shooting my Home Sharing connection I noticed that under my Network settings, Wi-Fi is yellow instead of green and reads "Self-Assigned IP... Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xx and will not be able to connect to the Internet.".
When I go back to Apple TV I've found that althought it's connectted to my iMac through WiFi and I can see my purchased movies I can't view them becasue there is no connection to the iTunes Store (no internet coinnection through WiFi). But my actual network connection on my iMac is just fine.
So it seems that my new OS or iTunes upgrade has caused my WiFi to no longer allow an internet connection across teh wireless network.
Can anybody here tell me why that would happen and how can I fix it?
    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    David

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
