ITunes Upgrade nows allows individual file & album selection!

Not sure if this has been posted or is just old news. I thought it be nice to mention how Apple has actually listened to some of their customers. I kinda want to hear from people who decided to upgrade all their songs and those who waited to do so.

  • ITunes upgrade - now forces mp3 file association to itunes

Older versions of iTunes would allow me to keep .mp3 file association pointing to winamp, but the latest version of itunes "steals" the mp3 file association back everytime it starts up. Winamp has a "reset file association at startup" checkbox in it's preferences, but I can't find anything like that in itunes. Am I missing something, or is there some other way to get iTunes to not steal this file association whenever it starts. Or is there a way to uninstall this latest upgrade?

Find one of your MP3 files in Windows Explorer and right click on it and select Open with>>Choose Program.
On this dialogue, tick "Always use selected brogram to open this kind of file", then select Winamp and click OK.

  • Time Machine 10.5.3 can now recover individual File Vault files?!

I don't know when this happened, but it appears that I can now recover individual files from a FV protected account using TM in Leopard 10.5.3. It works just like it does with an unprotected account;choose a folder, click in the dock, zoomy UI.
What's more, while logged into a FV protected account, I can chose BackUp Now... and it does just that. The only difference is that when I log off of a FV protected account, a backup is performed, which makes sense since individual files cannot be backed up once the FV protected account is logged off.
Am I right? This was such a big user issue I am surprised Apple didn't make a bigger issue about announcing it.

Neither OS X nor QuickTime natively allows the playback of .flv content. However, adding Perian to your system

playback. I imagine that at some point in the past, you must have installed Perian on your MBP but not on your Mac Pro.

  • Ran an Itunes upgrade, now it won't open...Vista

I ran the latest upgrade for Itunes and now it opens but stops working immediately..please help.

I am having the same problem and I do get the "iTunes has stopped working" message. Just did the upgrade today and this is the first time I've had this problem. It occurs on both accounts on my computer, so I know it's a system wide problem.

  • ITunes 7.1 Coverflow messes up album selection

Running iTunes 7.1 (59) for Mac.
Using the browser, I select the artist and album I want to play and start listening. If I then select the coverflow display, instead of seeing just the tracks on the album chosen, I now see the entire contents of my library in random order. As soon as I get to the end of the current track, it jumps to a completely different album, not the second track of the album I was listening to.
Have I misunderstood the way this coverflow option is supposed to work ?
    TIA

iMac 20" Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It sounds like you have shuffling enabled. Go to Preferences > Playback and select "Shuffle: Albums".
If your library is appearing in a random order, make sure you are sorting it by the column you wish. I use "Album by Year", myself.
You're correct that switching to Cover Flow loses your Browser selections, which seems to be a bug.

  • Recent Itunes upgrade, now cannot access store, PLZ Help

My Itunes was working perfectly until I did the recent upgrade. Now I cannot connect to the store. The connections are the same, only change was the upgrade.
I ran the restore feature in windows to roll back to earlier time, but still having same problem.
I would gladly uninstall Itunes and Quicktime and reinstall fresh, if I knew _how to save the 300 album cover artwork and playlists and purchased items_ I had saved in itunes to link to my apple t.v.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Scroll down through this : http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/the-complete-guide-to-backing -up-your-itunes-library/
and it will tell you what folder in iTunes contains what you want to preserve.
Copy those folders to a safe location and then, after the new install, move them back to the correct locations.

  • Apple TV and iTunes upgraded, now won't sync

About a month ago, my Apple TV upgraded to 3.0.2, and then required me to update iTunes to 9.2.0.61. The Apple TV continues to work well with the TV. It is also connected to my wireless network and the internet, since it browses the iTunes store and YouTube, as well as connecting to internet radio stations. "About" shows the correct name for the Apple TV, as well as the proper SSID and IP address for my wireless network. BUT...
In iTunes, the Apple TV does not show up in the menu list at the left side of the iTunes window, where you now find "Library", "Store", and the iPod, and where you could formerly find the Apple TV listed.
In iTunes, clicking Edit/Preferences and selecting the Apple TV tab, the list actually does show the Apple TV as connected to iTunes, with the status listed as "syncing". However, the Apple TV has not successfully synced since the upgrade to 3.0.2, as all the content remains as it was before the software update.
On the Apple TV tab, "Look for Apple TVs" is checked and "Prevent Apple TVs from syncing automatically" is unchecked.
    Any ideas?

  • Upgraded now cannot open files

At the prompt of App Store that updates were available for Numbers, I upgraded today to 3.0.1.  Now, I cannot access any of my spreadsheets.  The dialogue box comes back: "The file “xxxx” couldn’t be opened.  Even if I open a new document and try to save it, I get a message back: "The file “xxx.numbers” couldn’t be opened."
It appears that following the App Store update, I how have two versions of Numbers: the new 3.0.1 updated today and an iWork'09 version 2.3 updated 5 December 2012.
The 2.3 version can create new spreadsheets but it cannot open any of my existing files.
I can open the same iCloud spreadsheets and edit them on my iPad with Numbers 2.0.1, but afterwards I can still not open them with Numbers 3.0.1 on my Mac and the spreadsheet manager on the Mac shows the spreadsheet as Zero bytes.
    MAC OS X 10.9 (13A603)   Numbers 3.0.1 (1483)   &  Numbers 2.3 (554)
    iOS 7.0.4 (11B554a)    Numbers 2.0.1 (1074)
    Thanks

Another post which I cannot find at the moment, had a response to restart/reboot the Mac and, for me, this has worked.  There may be other issues, but you should try this if you had similar problems to mine.

  • ITunes upgrade, now won't open on external drive

    Hello, mac genii,
I recently moved iTunes to my external hard drive.  It has worked well.  Just upgraded iTunes to 11.2.1 from a 10.? version.  Now iTunes won't open.  I have a 2009 13" macbook pro, using a western digital 1T ex. drive.  I moved iTunes using a method I learned in this forum (from Limnos), by moving the iTunes folder to the ex. drive, and holding the option key down while clicking the iTunes icon, choosing the ex. drive for the location of the library.  When I downloaded the upgrade, i had the ex. drive plugged in.  It appears as though it upgraded in both the ex drive and internally.  I tried doing the option + iTunes icon and nothing happened.  The iTunes folders are all still intact as far as I can tell.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

My 8.1 will not start either. Starts to open the iTunes library, then I get the "quit unexpectedly" message.
I still have iTunes 8.0.2. When I try to open it, same thing happens, even though that version always worked just fine.
I have tried restarting. No luck.
    Help appreciated.Thanks.

this was in a download but i can not access i tunes since i did the upgrade sept, 21st of this year...

"Will not work" is useless when asking for help.  Without specifics, no assistance can be provided.

  • HT1222 I got an error message on the last Itunes update about a dll file not installing. I would need to reinstall the enire Itunes program. If I do that, will I lose my library?

Received error message during last itunes upgrade. Said dll file did not install. I should reinstall whole itunes program. If I figure out how to do that, will I lose my library?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • File path select pop ups. Multiple searches found

I just had a new HD installed, and I now have mountain lion. When I open Logic pro on an existing song, I now get a "File Path Select" box, which says that there are "multiple matches found in file." Is this because my audio interface, Inspire 1394 is no longer compatible with mountain lion? What can I do to remove this?

Do you have many files with the same name in different songs, like "Bass" or "Guitar" etc? Perhaps with the new drive, the original file paths connecting your files to your songs no longer exists, so logic is searching and finding multiple files matching the file name that the song is looking for. Do you see the filepath belonging to the song in the select box? If so, select it.

  • I have the iPhone 4, and yesterday I synced my photos onto iTunes, but now I have albums on my phone that cannot be deleted, and there is not an option to delete the items in the albums individually... How do I get rid of these unwanted albums? Windows 7

I have the iPhone 4, and yesterday I synced my photos onto iTunes, but now I have albums on my phone that cannot be deleted, and there is not an option to delete the items in the albums individually... How do I get rid of these unwanted albums? Using Windows 7.

If you used iTunes to get the photos on the phone, then use the same iTunes and uncheck the music you don't want and do another sync.
