Everytime it is running since then, even in the background i noticed that the process for it is has a vey high cpu usage (above 95% at all times). This is while im not even using it to play or sync or anything.. the problem is persistent. I think thats really abnormal. can anyone suggest soemthing?

• ITunes using 95% CPU?

I'm running iTunes 10.7, Mountain Lion, on an iMac with 4gb RAM. Periodically while running iTunes my computer gets really sluggish; a look in Activity Monitor reveals iTunes using over 90% of the CPU. If I close and restart iTunes, it behaves itself for a while, but this can happen even if iTunes has not been open for long. What's going on, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

I'm having the same trouble!
My difference is that I'm running Lion (10.7.5) on a Mac Pro with 12GB RAM. I have oodles of space on all drives (total of about 13TB).
After iTunes is running for a few minutes the entire system become VERY sluggish!
The display mode does not seem to matter at all.
Screen updates for pointer interaction, window dragging, and etc. slows to about 2 or 3 FPS (slow!) Even typing this right now is slow slow slow!
UG! Yet another wonderful Apple software update!

• "parentalcont" process using excessive CPU

I noticed my iMac really struggling this evening with a web conference - the case heating up and the video connection dropping quite often. I looked at Activity Monitor and the % User value at the bottom jumped to 25-30% every few seconds with nothing really running, but no processes in the list were showing high CPU use. I used the "top" command in terminal and found that the process "parentalcont" was consuming excessive CPU cycles (it showed around 95% every few seconds).
I just set up an account for my 6-year-old to play with her online disney games and what-not a few days ago and enabled parental controls. Never used them before. After going to "Preferences>Users" and disabling parental controls the problem went away.
Anyone have any idea why parental controls would act this way? When I'm not even logged in to the account that uses them?
Thanks.

"parentalcont" is what displays in the "COMMAND" column when using the "top" function in terminal. That column appears to be limited to 12 characters so it is probably truncating the name. (e.g. "Folder Actio" is another one listed). This process doesn't show up at all in Activity Monitor.
An update: After some trial and error, I've found that the "Limit Applications" function of parental controls appears to be the culprit. When I tell it to limit applications to "Up to 9+" the CPU use skyrockets after a 10-30 seconds, and the process shows its state as "stuck".
Kind of a head-scratcher but I think the solution may be to just not use the "Limit Applications" feature. All I really wanted was the Simple Finder and to block bad websites.

• Forte Partition using excessive CPU

Dear All,
I have an intermittent problem whereby a forte partition seems to be
hogging excessive CPU but upon investigation doesn't appear to be doing
anything.
We can identify the partition and want to restart it with logging on the
partition.
Does anyone know what flags to set so that the problem can be diagnosed

Could you do us the honour of linking to this fix? I'm having the same problem; java using 100-120% CPU for some mystery process, even when every app has been quit. Googling it only points in the direction of coder sites and this thread, which whilst being 'fixed' doesn't actually offer one.

• Creative Cloud using Excessive CPU

Since an update early today (9/12/2013), the Creative Cloud executable is consuming excessive CPU. It's basically using an entire 100% CPU of a core on an i7 6-core system. At first it said I had updates in the task notification area, so I clicked on the notification, but no response occurred. After several minutes of no response, I noticed the fans on my computer were running fast, which is unusual when the computer is sitting there idle. I opened up process explorer to see what was going on. I found the Create Cloud suite consuming an entire core's worth of CPU. See snapshot.
Is this app doing a busy-poll loop?
is someone at Adobe listening? Please fix this problem ASAP!

• Poor audio quality - iTunes uses 100% CPU for 15-20 seconds

About 6-7 seconds into an MP3, iTunes pegs my CPU to 100%, and the audio lags or shuts off completely. Protected AAC files play without issue. Converting the MP3 to AAC does not help: the audio and CPU give the same results. Winamp, WMP, and *even QuickTime* can play the same MP3 files without issue. It is only MP3s and only iTunes. I have uninstalled my antivirus, but that did not help. I removed all start up applications and closed any program that wasn't essential to the computer's operation. I have even killed non-essential processes. These files have played in in iTunes previously, it has only been in the last few months that I have had a problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of iTunes just this morning. Nothing has helped, and I'm not about to reformat my PC just to see if that will help when these files play just fine in all my other media players.
So, to recap:
- Problem is ONLY with MP3s -> M4Ps play fine
- Problem is ONLY iTunes -> Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and WinAmp play the MP3 just fine
Ideas?

I have no idea what is causing this, but iTunes is rather sensitive to ID3 tag versions - the usual symptom is that it will not play the file.
As an experiment try selecting an MP3 track, then right click and select convert ID3 tags. Convert to "None".
I would do this on a copy of the file.

• ITunes v7.7.0.43 syncclient. exe using excessive cpu

I recently updated iTunes to v7.7.0.73 and my orginal iPhone to v2 and the syncclient.exe process is going nuts! As soon as iTunes is started, this process consumes almost all available cpu and creates constant disk reads (VERY BUSY) until I kill it.
I found similar posts on the iTouch Discussion so this is clearly a iTunes problem. Disabling Sync in iTunes will prevent the process from starting but...

• Why does iTunes use 100% CPU all the time, hogging my Macbook Air?

Decided to post this here instead of the iTunes forum, since it might be related to hardware too.
New owner of a 2011 13" Macbook Air, core i5 based.
My problem started about 1 week ago, after it had run out of power completely one day. At the first boot after that it was incredibly sluggish, totally unusable. After waiting for 5 minutes and still being unresponsive, I turned it off and then back on. Then it booted fine. HOWEVER, ever since that time I noticed the following behavior:
- iTunes stays at 100% + CPU all the time, mostly between 100-120%. Even if it's not playing. Even when I deleted the entire library and left it empty.
- iStats reports CPU idle between 50-65%. However, CPU temperature is still about 55 degrees C (which, I think, is far less than what it should have been with 50% idle cpu). I can confirm the low temperature by touching the chasis.
- the cursor freezes and jumps every few seconds, making the mac kind of unusable with iTunes open.
This has been going on for 2 weeks now. The problem goes away every now and then (iTunes sometimes goes back to regular CPU usage of 3-5%), but most of the time it's there.
Help!
P.S.
Mac OX X 10.7.2
iTunes 10.5.2

Cee Pee You, is a OS modification. Apple recommends that you un-install these prior to a OS update because Apple makes changes to the OS all the time which breaks programs like these.
I avoid Unsanity LLC products like the plague. Notice the company is a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), which makes it difficult to sue the company in case of a defective or malicious product. So the risk using their products is all yours. Their APE framework modules have been used for malicious purposes because anyone can write a module that uses the APE framework.
I also avoid installing anything that requires a administrative password unless I completely trust the source, like Apple mostly. That admin password is the key to the security of our machines, not to be given out lightly or carelessly.
You'll have to contact Unsanity's [email protected] because what I'm reading online is it's very difficult to remove as it doesn't "exist".

• Our MacbookPro began running very slow a few days ago. I ran disk repair, permissions repair, and restored the OS from the Apple server. Kernal_Task appears to be using excessive CPU.

I uninstalled all of the Intego products. I restarted the laptop, also ran disk repair and permissions repair again. Then allowed the machine to run with no apps active, just in case the OS was perfroming cleanup funtions. Results: No discernible improvement in performance. The kernal_task shows 500+% and the CPU graph shows 70%-80%.
There is one hardware issue: The magsafe battery port stopped charging the battery, so the laptop must be plugged in all the time.

• WMP300N uses excessive CPU

On a fast dual core processor, WMP300N can chew up half of the cycles.
This executable becomes active when LinkSys Monitor is used to manage the WMP300N PCI Adapter.
On the Linksys Wireless-N Products page
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Promotion_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1144421946975&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper
The WMP300N adapter isn't even listed.
Even when there is no network traffic at all, WMP300N chews up about 20% of the cycles, so I set about to find out why. Pretty simple, really ... just run sysinternals Filemon.
http://www.sysinternals.com/
Download:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html
And you'll see wcmp300N chugging thru %windir%\temp looking for GIF files for every Beacon Interval.
Pretty silly ... When can I expect a fix for this?

There are a number of discussions here looking at the different possible avenues. A quick troubleshooting would be to:
If you do not want/need to sync over wireless then disable it (uncheck the “Sync with this iOS device over Wi-Fi.” when you have your device connected to iTunes). There seems to be quite a few issues with the APSDaemon.exe.
Run the Diagnostics in the Help menu of iTunes and chack any issues using the help button.
See what is using up the CPU & Memory besides APSDaemon.exe in Task Manager.
If your Security Software is also constantly active see a) and b) below.

In my case it appears to be Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 (avp.exe) fighting with Apple Push (APSDaemon.exe) on my Windows XP Pro box. I am not set up with the “Sync with this iOS device over Wi-Fi.” but APSDaemon.exe is running anyway. If I kill it in Task Manager the CPU resource usage drops to normal. No cure yet, just work arounds.

• ITunes using 50% CPU

I need some help. It seems that iTunes is taking up over 50% of my CPU and is fragging everything ese to a massive slow down. I have tried all of the suggestions on the iTunes support page, to no avail. Has anyone been abel to resolve this? It seems related to the upgrade to 7.6.2.
As soon as I go into iTune the CPU pegs and iTunes is horribly slow.

edit: warning: for some reason iTunes 7.0.2.16 doesn't want to recognize (authorize) my purchased music. I will update this if I find out how. I tried deauthorizing my computer but it wasn't successful at deauthorizing itself.
I found out how to fix it; go back to a previous version of iTunes. I found an old version of iTunes at http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=itunes (I just downloaded iTunes 7.0.1 according to that website--which is actually 7.0.2.16).
I had to export my library before uninstalling iTunes. Then after uninstalling the new one and installing the old version I just imported my exported library file from the previous sentence. It uses considerably less CPU now. With iTunes open and visible it takes ~15-20%. If I have the option selected to minimize to the system tray and I minimize it, it uses ~5%.

• Apple mobile device exe used excessive CPU

I am running iTunes on Windows 7 32 bits and as sson as I open Itunes, Apple Mobile Device exe. will start to use up to 50% of my CPU. Even when I have closed iTunes this contnues. Is there a fif for this since it will of course mean that all other processes will be slowed down and that the heat from the CPU finally will lower the life of my lap op.

You can try looking at some of the previous posts on the right under the heading "More Like This" with your same problem.

• Itunes uses 100% cpu

There has been a great deal of discussion and comment about Itunes consuming 100% of CPU on my windows laptop. I have seen various solutions but have to say none of them actually work for me. I have disabled the Apple exe for itunes startup but of course this is not a solution its just sticking plaster. Does anyone know of a certain way of resolving this please.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

• Itunes uses half cpu on xp

iTunes 10.5.0.142 is using 1/2 of the memory on my dual core HP using XP Media Edition. Read some forums and found relief by using command "netsh winsock reset". This removed the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe temporarily but had the side effect of impacting Internet Explorer - it couldn't find the server. As soon as I rebooted and the service ran again, IE worked fine. Anyone with better solution? Reluctant to delete iTUnes and reinstall. Others are having same problem, is Apple addressing this?

I also tried everything on this website
