ITunes -v- CD drive

I am having problems with getting iTunes to run on a PC.
Basically after installing iTunes and without restarting everything works fine. After restarting however the PCs CD drive no longer works.
Looking in device manager it has a code 41 error saying the driver was loaded but the device couldnt be found.
Running iTunes diagnostic software brings up the following:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
NEC Computers International Packard Bell EasyNote
iTunes 7.1.1.5
CD Driver 2.0.6.1
CD Driver DLL 2.0.6.2
LowerFilters: AFS2K (3.1.21.0), PXHELP20 (2.0.0.0),
UpperFilters: asapiGEARAspiWDMGEARAspiWDM (2.0.6.1),
Current user is an administrator.
Video Display Information:
SiS M661FX
Connected Device Information:
DiskDrive, IC25N040ATMR04-0, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
CDROM, Slimtype COMBO LSC-24082K
Uninstalling iTunes returns the CD drive to operation.
any suggestions on the problem/ fix?
Many thanks

the code 41s on Packard Bells in the UK (for some reason, 9 times out of 10 a code 41 report will be from a UK Packard Bell) are generally caused by a snarl up in the device filters in the registry.
in your case, the Upperfilters entry is looking wrong:
UpperFilters: asapiGEARAspiWDMGEARAspiWDM (2.0.6.1),
so let's try editing that key as per the following document:

  • How do i install itunes on another drive other than c

I would like to install itunes on a drive other than c drive in a fresh install to keep it free from my operating system.Itunes is not currently installed on my computer, so i dont need to transfer anything or move anything and i dont want to put itunes on a external hard drive as i just simply want to do a fresh install on a drive other than c drive. Can itunes accomodate me in this simple task.

Install it normally, launch it with the Shift key held down, and create a new library on the desired drive. The iTunes application contains system components and therefore must be installed on the drive or partition containing the OS.

  • How do I get my uploaded material to show up in library after transferring itunes to another drive?

I've recently had to transfer my itunes over to drive D in my laptop, since drive C was just about at its limit. Anyway, I transferred my itunes over to drive D, but all that shows up in my library is the material I purchased frrom itunes - none of my uploaded cd's are showing up at all. The uploaded material shows up in my itunes file folder, and but it won't show up in my library until I play the song through the file folder. I'd rather not sit there playing all of this material just to get it to show in my library (since there is a LOT), so is there any quickie way I can get this stuff to show up in my itunes library again?

Have you tired to adding the music to the iTunes library by choosing:

    Hi Maciejhttp://forums.adobe.com/people/Maciej%20Przepi%C3%B3ra
    Thanks for your inputs.
I have memory leaks in my code. I have tried iDialog->Release() code which reduces some of the memory leaks
Though I want to use more clean method of InterfacePtr.
"To prevent reference counts  from incrementing, as in Type 1a and 1b, use this constructor, which does not  call IPMUnknown::AddRef:"
Which Constructor you are pointing out, I didn't get it.
    I tried InterfacePtr<IDialog> iDialog((IDialog *)iWidgetParent->QueryParentFor(IID_IDIALOG));
It started giving me assert again.
Please give an example how to do it or which InterfacePtr constructor doesn't call AddRef().
Many thanks for helping me with this.

  • C drive is full how do I move iTunes to d drive?

How do I move iTunes from one drive to another? My c drive is full I changed my preferences to d, yet I still can not back up my iPhone or iPad. I think I need to move iTunes I am just not sure if I should uninstall from c and reinstall to d?  Any suggestions or help.
    Thank you
    Sue

Copy the entire iTunes folder from your music folder to D:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library.
Click Choose and navigate to the file D:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
Check the library is working properly.
Use the option File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files to import any stay files to the new library folder.
Delete the old iTunes folder on the C: drive.
Ideally you will also backup this library to another drive.

  • Installing iTunes on slave drive

i want to install itunes on my d: drive(where all my msuic's stored anyways)to keep my c: drive less crowded. when i do this, itunes seems to copy all my music onto my c drive anyhow. can snyone tell me how to rectify this...it would be most grealtly appreciated.
      Windows XP

Ok you can only install itunes on C drive, its hard coded. You can store your library anyplace. Once itunes is installed you need to change the library location in the Edit > Preferences dialog.
    Hope that helps.

  • Followed cnet direct. to move itunes from c drive to ext. drive, worked, deleted off c, still worked, now says AVFoundationCF.dll not found-reinstall, don't want to lose data

I recently followed cnet directions to move itunes from c drive on pc running xp pro, to external drive, for space reasons.  Process worked.  I tunes ran from e drive, verified data on e drive, deleted all apple applications on c drive so I could remove itunes and recover space.  Verified itunes still worked off of new short cut and and that target was e drive.  Now itunes won't open and get message "AVFoundationCF.dll not found - reinstall", or "not installed correctly Error 7 (windows error 126) - reinstall."  Tried download, install from apple.com for itunes on c drive, but message "library can't be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes."  How do I fix this without losing all of our "material" saved on the itunes program?

Thank you for the reply, but so far no go.  I tried through control panel and add remove programs with repair option as suggested but got error..."C:\programs......AppleAplicationSupport.msi cannot be found."  This was after I have done new download and install of itunes to the c drive.  I have not taken any steps to try use that down load or reload any material on it.  I changed path to external drive an folder, E:\ itunes and got the "error not valid installation package."  Still looking for answers...

  • Moved iTunes to different drive - now my library is empty???

I should've left well-enough alone, but someone suggested I move my files to my second hard drive. I moved iTunes from C drive to F drive and changed the settings in my iTunes preferences; however, now my iTunes is empty. I moved them back to C drive, but still nothing. I can find the files when I look under C drive in my computer, but I can't get them to show up in my library.
    Any suggestions??

Set the location to what you need and then try the steps here:

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • If i move itune to external drive does time machine still have backup?

if i move itune to external drive does time machine still have backup?
I just moved my itunes off my macbook pro because it was taking up too much space and put it on an external hard drive. i have a second external hard drive that i use for time machine. when i update time machine next will my itunes files be removed from the backup since they are no longer on my internal hard drive (what time machine backs up?) basically, i want to make sure i have a second copy of my itunes besides the one on my first external hard drive and i was wondering if time machine will still have all of that data (on the second external hard drive).
i cant find this answer anywhere!!! thanks so much!!!

Check to see whether or not it's excluded in the Time Machine pane of System Preferences.
Items deleted from the hard drive won't be deleted from the backup until the backup location runs out of space.

  • ITunes makes DVD drive disappear

I installed iTunes for the first time on my machine after getting an iPod Touch. The next day I discovered my DVD drive icon was missing from the Computer window. I assumed it was because of iTunes since that was the only that had changed. I tried restarting my machine, no good. I uninstalled iTunes and my drive was back. I re-installed and uninstalled several times along with updating the DVD drivers, no difference in the outcome. I would like to be able to use iTunes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The problem is caused by "filters" in the registry.
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
The registry is a dark and dangerous place. It's easy to mess Windows up by making changes in there. If you are not familiar with registry surgery, read about it first. Start here.
What is the registry? - What is Registry Editor? - Back up the registry
Then read in the Help section of Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
Be sure to export keys prior to modifying them.

  • Storing TV Shows Downloaded from iTunes on External Drive?

My HP has about 137 GB of storage available and I am now using almost 130 GB. 60 GB is for several TV shows and movies I have downloaded. (Entire 1st year of Six Feet Under, West Wing and Mad Men plus Godfather, Animal House, etc.)
What I want to do is store these items on an external drive and access them only when needed. The saving to the external drive went well, but now I have three questions:
    1. How do I take the TV Shows out of iTunes/my hard drive to free up space?
    2. I have an iPod Touch and iPhone for my wife. How do I sync these machines so that some or all of a series of TV shows is captured on the devices? (I intend to leave my music in the iTunes library as well as photos etc., if possible to do so and still sync.)
    3. I accidentally deleted several episodes of a program from my iTunes library -- is it possible to get these back without buying them a second time?
    Thanks in advance
    Kerry

    1) Hey there, I think the best way for your case is to use 2 separate itunes libraries.
One for TV/movies and a second for music/podcasts/etc.
So use this article to create a new itunes library _on your exHD_ - meaning, the actual ITL file you create _is on the exHD with movies_. Post back if you do not understand this important part. Otherwise you are going to have a big mixup of library files on your C: drive, I think.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.0/en/15502.html
It will show up as a blank library, and then you just drag the movie/TV folders over to it fro WIndows Explorer.
Once you are sure that new library is working OK, you can delete them from your original itunes library. In itunes just highlight them, and press delete.
Don't delete them from your actual C: hard drive until you have made sure everything is OK!
And you might consider burning them to a DVD data disk - it's risky having one copy of purchases.
    Even exHDs can fail.

  • Where can I download the iTunes64.msi driver. I can't update my current Itunes without this driver.

Where can I download the iTunes64.msi driver. I can't update my current Itunes without this driver. I can't find it on Microsoft's website or Apple's website.

You can't download the individual .msi files, but they can be extracted from the setup.exe files if required.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

  • New hard drive on ibook=troubled relationship between itunes/ipod/ext drive

A few months ago, I bought an external hard drive to accomodate my large music collection. I got wonderful advice from this forum about how to sync that with my itunes/ipod using 'preferences' and selecting the folder from the external drive as my itunes library.
Then, the hard drive on my ibook g4 had to be replaced. Very sad.
NOW, when I open itunes and set the preferences to the itunes folder on my external hard drive, itunes does nothing to show that it recognizes that folder.. the music doesn't appear in the itunes library (though it it still on my external drive.)
FURTHERMORE, since the new hard drive, when I connect my ipod to the ibook, I get a prompt saying that my ipod is connected to another library... but this is my only computer, the only computer my ipod has ever been 'married' to.
What should I do to get my itunes/ipod/external drive relationship back in sync now that I have the new ibook hard drive?

  • Windows Vista Home + iTunes = no DVD drives

I am a long time iTunes user, and have been having an issue with iTunes for the last little while. When I install iTunes (I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit, by the way), after the required restart, my DVD drives' icons disappear (I have 2 of them). I can see the DVD drives in the Device Manager, and they say they cannot start. The only I think I've had these problems since about iTunes 7.0, but I don't burn CDs that often, so I've really not felt too bad about it, except that my wife would like to do so. I've done the registry change where you remove the upper and lower filters, which corrects the drive issue, but then presents the seemingly inevitable Registry issue dialog box, without the option to burn CDs. Here are the steps I've done thus far to try to get my computer and iTunes to play nicely:
    1. Tried reenabling the UpperFilter for GearAspiWDM as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305422
    2. Tried downloading new GEAR drivers from their website.
    3. Tried uninstalling Quicktime, and then installing it separately.
    4. Uninstalled my other music service software (SonicStage), and then reinstalling iTunes.
    5. Completely uninstalled iTunes, and then reinstalled it (a couple of iTunes versions ago).
    6. Tried uninstalling the non-functioning DVD drives in the device manager, and then scanning for hardware changes. When the UpperFilter was still present, this part failed. It passed after I removed the UpperFilter registry entry.
    Please help!
