ITunes v10.6 crashes on Windows XP

Hi,
Just updated to 10.6 through iTunes, as it told me a new version was available.
Now when I try to start iTunes I get the error message 'iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close'. When I submit the error report, I'm advised, kindly, by Microsoft that a solution has been found, and I'm taken back the Apple site where I can download iTunes v10.6..... :-) So i'm just going round in circles...
Now, searching the web some kind soul suggested deleting (or, as I did, renaming) 'Album Artwork', which gets recreated the next time you start iTunes. This worked a couple of times and I was able to open iTunes, but all of the artwork I downloaded myself, for albums I already owned and were not purchased via iTunes, were missing. And now iTunes has stopped working again - I can't do anything with it it at all, I simply get the error message as soon as the program starts. And in any case, it took me HOURS to add my own artwork to the hundreds of albums I have stored.
So it seems a problem with v10.6?
Does anyone else suffer this and, more importantly, does anyone have a solution? Can I uninstall and reinstall a previous version, without losing all my artwork and libraries?
Cheers,
Paul

Many thanks, Paul.
Modname is corefoundation.dll and Modver is 1.630.16.0 offset 0004183c
Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch properly now?
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

  • ITunes-v10.6-crashing at launch

3 days ago iTunes-v10.6-started crashing at launch with a brief dialog that it quit while opening its windows. The iTunes window does appear and it even starts contacting the iTunes store (apparently I had last successfully closed it down while in the store) but the dialog box does not accept any input and the program crashes to desktop in about 5 seconds from startup; I had to start it 3 or 4 times just to be able to read the dialog box that appears.
Re-installing didn't work. I had tried downloading the latest version from apple.com but it behaves the same. I had previously looked for software updates to it but none were found. I had not installed in plugins and had not done anything to the software since it was first installed.
I tried running it with all security software disabled but am getting the same behavior.
Safe mode doesn't work. I still get the dialog and crash.
I tried backup via time machine but get a message that I "can't modify iTunes" as it is "required by Mac OS X".
I have not just my music, but also movies and TV shows on my laptop that I've used to keep my daughter entertained on the road and now I obviously cannot access any of it. So, I'm a bit frustrated at the moment.
    Any suggestions?

Welcome to the iTunes 10.6 iTunes CRASH Festival.  This as well as a bunch of other resaons for iTunes crashes has been reported since the launch of 10.6 on March 7.  This is both for Windows & Macs.  It has got to be one of the worst Apple software update I have seen to date.
    It is now 10 days since the launch and no patches nor official mentiones from Apple either.  Oh yeah if you call tech support they will very nicely tell you "This is the first time I have heard of this.".  The best solution is to go back to the 10.5.3 version of iTunes, but you mind find a temp solution somewhere on this thread;

  • How do I backup iTunes v10.5 library with windows XP

With iTunes 10.5 there isn't a backup option. How do I backup my entire iTunes library under windows XP? I assume with iCloud the backup is done automatically but iCloud isn't supported under XP.

"how can i reinstall itunes 10.5.2 on windows xp, after i deleted the older version?"
    Go to apple.com/itunes/download
    Download the current version.
    Install it.
When installing, are specific errors being generated?

  • ITunes 10.5 crash on windows 7 x64

I upgraded iTunes to the latest version and rebooted my pc. Now, when I start my pc it crashes, there is always a blue screen that says "insufficient memory". It does not recognize mouse or video driver. Any idea?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Itunes 11.1 crashes on Windows 7 when using the new radio

Sometimes it will take 30 minutes or more.  Once it happens itunes player CANNOT be used unless you reboot.  I believe the new radio maybe be using a port that Microsoft Lync uses.  I have tried killing the process, but iTunes will not come back.

The issue is definitely with the new radio option.   The issue seems to be the way the radio interacts with the iTunes store.  It works for a while, then when it changes a song at some point, it seems it cannot talk to iTunes store.  When that happens it will shut itself down.  This does not happen with Internet or Songs/ Albums.

  • Itunes keeps crashing with windows 7

iTunes 7 keeps crashing on windows 7. please help.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • ITunes and iTuneshelper crash when I plug in my iPhone

I'm out of ideas on this problem...
Beginning yesterday, when I plug in my Iphone to sync it with iTunes, both iTunes and iTuneshelper crash, and Windows gives me the option to create a crash report. As a result I can no longer sync my iPhone with my Thinkpad.
No new software in the past several days, no other change in system stability. iTunes 9.0.3.15, iPhone OS 3.1.2, Windows XP SP3 with all updates applied.
Is there a log or dump file I can upload to help point to my problem?
    Thanks in advance.

edit: I should add that when I plug in the iPhone, iTunes doesn't even get to the point of displaying its gui...it crashes on start and iTuneshelper goes with it. If I leave iTuneshelper not running and just re-run iTunes by manually starting it, it won't recognize the iPhone but doesn't crash, either, when I plug in the phone. I know iTuneshelper interfaces the phone to iTunes, so I guess something is going wrong in the iTuneshelper-iPhone exchange.

This is interesting: when I attempted to re-boot into safe mode I inadvertently booted into the Thinkpad Rescue and Recovery partition. The first thing it does is check the core OS files, and it found that ws2_32.dll was corrupted. It replaced the file and I re-booted Windows in normal mode. After it finished booting I plugged in the iPhone and up came iTunes. The phone synced and I'm back in business.
I'm going to take a look at the article you just pointed to, never heard of that tool. Hopefully Windows remains stable and whatever corrupted ws2_32.dll was a one-time actor.
Thanks for your help here, you got me headed down the right path.

  • Itunes 10.6 crash sort-of fix?

i know there's a lot of people out there who have had difficulty with itunes 10.6 crashing when they try to open it. it quits immediately upon launch. after much messing about i've found a temporary solution to the problem that DOESN'T involve a bunch of downloading, uploading, re-installing etc. i know this won't solve everyone's problem. some people are reporting problems with movies etc. which i don't use on my itunes. but hopefully it will solve a number of people's problems until a new software update is issued.
first off when you go to open itunes and it crashes a window pops up saying the report has been sent to apple and you can either view the details of the report, "ok" it, or try and reopen itunes. reopen it, and if it continues to crash keep trying to reopen it. try and try and try. it might take a while but eventually (for me anyway) it finally opened and stayed open to my music with the "album cover view" sorting.
now what i've discovered is that the "album cover view" sorting itself is what is causing the crash for me and i'm guessing for a lot of people as well. for me, once i got to this point it didn't mean the issue was fixed. if i tried to scroll up and down through my albums on this page itunes would crash again. and i would have to do the whole re-open thing a billion times AGAIN.
instead of trying to do ANYTHING on this album cover view page do this instead. once you get itunes to reopen and STAY open to it guide your mouse to the top middle-right of the itunes window and change the way your albums/songs are displayed. there should be list view, album list view, album cover view (NO!), and album cover flow view (also possibly NO!). i changed mine to album list view, the second option, and i've had no trouble opening, playing, downloading, syncing, or anything else with itunes or my iphone. 100% no problems at all.
obviously this is a temporary fix and the greater problem needs to be fixed with an apple software update ASAP! but if you can live with viewing your albums and songs sorted in a less fancy way for the time being then i hope this fix works for you.
anyone have any questions or additional problems feel free to reply. i really hope this helps some people out there.

Right on, this approach worked.  I had to click another sort method multiple times while iTunes was trying to crash, but once ot took, iTunes was up and operating.  Well done!!

  • Trying to sync music onto iPod but iTunes 11 keeps crashing

I am trying to sync my entire iTunes library music onto iPod but iTunes 11 keeps crashing (using Windows 8 laptop)
I have tried to do it manually in little chunk and also tried the auto sync method too.
I have restored my ipod to factory setting 12 times now and retry but just when I think I'm getting somewhere iTunes freezes in the middle of the sync and then tell me it "cannot copy  because of unknown error (-50)"
From then on my Ipod refuses to accept any more syncing, it may do one and then it freezes again, iTunes says there is an issue with iPod, so I run a scan fix, it is repaired but then iTunes wants me to "restore to factory settings" again, it's a never ending circle, I get it fixed, iTunes crashes and then I have to fix, restore and start all over again just to have the same thing happen all over again
I have read here and there that there seems to be a bug in iTunes 11 when it comes to syncing.
I don't know what else to do, except revert back to iTunes 10 but I don't know how to do that either.
Anyone else had same issue syncing their library over to their iPod and how I fix it?

    Hi, ktchinagirl.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple reason this issue could be happening.  I have included a couple troubleshooting resources below that may help resolve this issue.  Some of the articles are missing the steps for Windows 8, try the steps for Windows 7 as an alternative.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3219
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause this error. Contact the software manufacturer that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows:How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
This could be related to security software conflicts.  If the steps above have not resolved the issue, I would recommend going through the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

I hope I am just not finding the discussion about iTunes 11.2 crashing on Windows 7 systems. I accepted the download from Apple, then found that iTunes crashes as soon as it completes launch. Restarts did not help. Redownloading and reinstalling did not help. Can someone let me know what to do to fix this issue? Thank you in advvance!

  • Itunes v10.5.2 will not re-open after using it and closing it once on my Windows XP computer.

After installing the latest version of itunes, v10.5.2, on my Windows XP computer, I find that once I close itunes, it will not re-open until I restart my computer.  The itunes icon remains in my system tray and is unresponsive.  The only way I can use itunes after opening and closing it once is to restart my computer.  I've checked for updates and support guidance on itunes.com to no avail.  I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it did not fix the problem.  I was not having this problem with the previous version of itunes.  Any advice.

Have you tried the following option also?:
    - Close the frozen itunes using task manager
    - In task manager go to the 'process' tab
    - Find and select 'APSDaemon.exe'
    - Click 'end process' then close the task manager
    - Re-open iTunes.

  • ITunes 10.5.3 Crashing on Windows 7 (32-bit)

I've recently downloaded the iTunes 10.5.3 updates onto my laptop, the operating system of which is Windows 7 32-bit. Since updating it, iTunes has been crashing when I try to access iTunes Store, use iTunes Match, or import music, presenting me with a report that "iTunes has stopped working" and simply reads "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." It doesn't tell me what the error is or why it has stopped working. I've in response tried reinstalling both iTunes and Quicktime. I've checked my computer for any viruses, malware, etc and the scans have come up empty. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?

  • Itunes 10.5 crashes with no error when trying to play any music, video, or import/scan from the library folder on the compter with Windows 7 Pro.

Fresh install with all older itunes un-installed as well as other Apple software.
Now cannot get any songs, videos, or even scan library folder for songs to work on the computer.
itunes just simply crashes with no error comments.
This is itunes 10.5 on a Windows 7 Pro system.

Same here, though on XP. Have tried cleaning registry, reinstalling, deleting preferences. Created a new user with no library and I have the problem there, too, so it's not the library.
Is there no one to call about this??
