ITunes V5.1 software - your opion
I formated my desktop and iTunes was one of the first programmes I installed. Previously I was running V4.9 which conveniently worked perfectly for me, now I am running V5.1 and it seems to be very buggy.
Now I don't know if it's just me or if others have experienced major problems with it.
Since the update, iTunes constantly seems to be crashing, the iPod updater refuses to update the iPod and it also conveniently wiped my iPod completely clean whilst refusing to acknowledge the iPods existance. Even when iTunes asked if i wanted this iPod linked to the current library to which I said no and it did it anyway.
Now I have tried the basics, I've reinstalled, I've formated, I've reset, rebooted, I've even danced on my head but I have come to the conclusion that if I could install V4.9 I would and my troubles would be solved... the only problem is that I am struggling to find this version.
My question is hows your experiences with itunes software V5.0 or higher?

Ok. Since no one's asked me about this, I'll just tell you. My suggestion is to simply make the Sources sidebar into a menu on the menu bar. Then everything wil be shifted over (<), so 800x600 users (like me) will see the entire Music Store page w/o having to scroll horizontally.

Ok, so I plug in my touch 3rd gen and I can't tell if it is really charging. It doesn't seem like it is. I can only see the charging icon sometimes, and then after the icon goes away, the ipod won't respond! I'm not sure what to do. Than I thought the USB port was messed up because it doesn't always work, but I plugged it into a diferent port and it said on the ipod, charging isn't supported with this accessory.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode. -
I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8. Just updated my iphone 5 & can not back anything up from itunes because my software on my mac is not up to date. What software should I now have to be up to date? Im so confused by all that is offered! PLEASE HELP ME.

my itunes wont open it tells me that my itunes library was updated by a newer version on itunes but my software is uptodate any one else have this prob?
Look under your Start Menu for Apple Software Update, but before doing that, check the time and date on your computer that it's correct.
It's also saying the iTunes Library .XML file in your iTunes Folder file is new, for some reason, but your songs should be still in the iTunes Folder.
You can move the XML file out and restart iTunes and it shoudl creat another, you lose your playlists and have to import all your music again. -

After Stopping it and Restarting and it is still not reconizing your device Then start uninstalling
Start with: Itunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device.
I had an issue uninstalling Apple Software Update, and was unable to get it off my computer.
But after all that download and reinstall itunes.
After doing all that i was able to get mine to show up in itunes

My ipad 1 is stuck on IOS 4 as these IOS 5 update instructions do not work. When I use itunes update the software looks for an IOS 5 software update file and the apple site doesn't seem have one anywhere!
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

There are three major portions involved in a restore:
1. Downloading the latest copy of iOS to your Mac for installation on the iPhone.
2. Installing the software from your Mac onto the iPhone.
3. Restoring all the contents of your iPhone (except iOS, which was done in the above step).
Step 1 will depend on your Mac's download speed. We are talking about downloading more than 1GB.
Step 2 should take about 10 minutes or less.
Step 3 will depend on how much personal stuff (e.g., apps, photos, music) you had on your iPhone. It might take minutes, or an hour or more. -

Before doing any update you want to ensure the data on the iPod Touch is backed up to your PC/Mac so that you can sync it back to the iPod Touch as needed.

Itunes not supported in your country
I have a UK Itunes account where I reside but am currently working in Qatar. When I try to connect to ITunes via WI-FI on my 2G Iphone I get the following message "ITunes not supported in your country". Works OK on my Macbook. Ive seen this question posted before but there doesnt seem to be a fix. Have resync with Itunes account, changed countries etc but no fix. Is this something with the 2.2 software update maybe. I brought the Iphone to save lugging the laptop around so am disappointed with Apple if this is a permanent lock out.

Safari, iTunes Store connection, Software Update won't work
I'm having a strange problem with my iBook...Safari will not load/open, Software Update from the blue apple menu at the top won't work and now I can't access the iTunes Store. I have no problem with my internet connection and Firefox works fine along with Mail. Safari has never worked actually, but the iTunes Store and Software Update are the new issues. I've repaired the permissions over and over, and I have not loaded any third part apps. Anybody have a clue about what the heck is going on here?!??!!!

I see you did the 10.4.10 update. Did the problems exist before the update?
Whether they did or not, you have network issues. iTunes/Safari/Mail all require networking preferences and they can become corrupted. You said Safari has never worked... that could be the culprit of all your probs right there. And much as I like Firefox, it has caused too many connections issues to list.
First... before you do anything, back up important files, data/audio/images etc.
Second.. the following are System Preferences that need to be trashed. I know you've tried a few before, but try this anyway. If it works, you will have to reset your Sys Prefs, but that beats a clean install.
Go here: MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences. Locate and trash the following files: com.apple.networkConfig.plist
com.apple.softwareudpate.plist
Now.. go here: MacintoshHD/Users/Home/Library/Preferences. In the Preferences folder locate these files;
com.apple.safari.plist users
com.apple.itunes.plist users
com.apple.internetconfig.plist
com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
com.apple.internetconnect.plist
com.apple.recentitems.plist
com.apple.safari.plist

Also, if you don't have a good disk cache cleaner... get Onyx. It's FREE and it works like a charm. Run the Maintenance and Cleaning Scripts once a week to avoid problems such as you are experiencing. Download and intall Onyx per the instructions. Only takes a few minutes...

Have you ran Disk Utility from your system restore disk to check for errors on the disk? You need to verify the disk is OK. If you need help with that, just post back..... I really hope something helps for you.
If all the above fails, at this point you might consider doing a complete Erase and Reinstall from your system restore disk(s).

The problem I have is that it wants me to uninstall all itunes and related software then reboot and download itunes installer. If I do this will I loose all music and movies form my Itunes library?
Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)

My iPhone 3Gs is now no longer a recognised device on iTunes after I downloaded the new iTunes with iCloud software, but it does recognise my iPad2??
I run both Mac and a PC and have iTunes on both, which has previously recognised my iPhone. I had updated my Mac with the new iTunes software with iCloud and updated my iPad2 just yesterday. I then wanted to do the same with my iPhone today, but my Mac wouldn't recognise the device so I tried it on my PC, which recognised the phone but told me I needed to update my iTunes and this in turn wanted to update my iPhone software. After completing all this and restarting, my iPhone now shows the iTunes icon with the USB plug pointing towards it, obviously wanting me to plug it in to my computer to re-connect with iTunes, but now neither of my computers recognise my iPhone and my PC states an 'Unknown Device'. My Mac doesn't even see it. Can anyone help as I really need to get my phone working?? ThanksHold down the Home and Power button for 20 seconds. And try to update again.
