ITUNES Video purchase

I purchased 3 videos from the Itunes store. 1 will load or sync to my IPOD 5th gen but the other 3 will not. When I click on the file and get information I see it is protected. that is the only difference I see between the files. How can I get these files to sync to my IPOD. I have read the FAQ related to this subject but i only have 3 IPODS so this should not be a issue.
Can some one tell me what is wrong?
How does purchased video differ from other video?
Videos purchased from the iTunes Store have FairPlay digital rights management embedded in the files and are in a format that can be readily synced to a video capable iPod. Just like with music you purchase from the iTunes Store, you own the videos you purchase. You can authorize up to five computers to play purchased videos, and you can sync the video to as many iPods as you like. An iPod can contain purchased content from up to five accounts; iTunes will not allow you to add data from a sixth account to iPod.

Take a look here for some tips on how to look for the missing episode.
If you can't find it, iTunes Store Customer Service (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find a button to send e-mail to them) and explaining what happened.

  • ITunes video purchases corrupting my ITunes Library

Got a season pass for this season of "Mad Men" - but thus far two of the downloads have corrupted my LIbrary and seem to be lost for good (along with the other episodes that were in the Library).
In both instances, when ITunes crashed, this alert message came up on the screen: +"The file "iTunes Library" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged)"."+ - but when I look for these supposed files on my computer they are nowhere to be found.
Now - I am pretty new to the ITunes store - I've imported some music from other sources over the years and never had this kind of problem so am wondering: do people just EXPECT Itunes to crash and so back things up a LOT? My computer is pretty old and does not have that much storage space - do I have to back up each one of these TV episodes from ITunes just to be sure I'm not going to have to re-purchase them from the ITunes store?
Do people have any other suggestions about keeping these videos from corrupting my Library files?

Fortunately for me, the folks at ITunes restored the lost episodes to me - but I would still like to know if anyone has any words of wisdom about what I can do to prevent this from happening in the future.

  • Hrd Drive Full- Archive iTunes Videos to DVD?

My daughter has filled up her laptop's hard drive. The big culprits are movies and TV shows purchased from iTunes. Is there a way that these files can be taken off her hard drive and archived to a DVD? She's not watching the files now and is OK if they come off her iPod, but doesn't want to erase something she paid for in case she might want them at some later date.
Is this possible? If so can someone point me to directions on how to archive these to DVD and how to restore to the hard drive at a later date?
    Thanks!

Hi L Powow- thanks for responding to my question. That's not quite what I had in mind. I don't want to back up the entire library, I only want to back up select iTunes video purchases for archival purposes.
I would like to remove the iTunes video purchases from the iTunes library on the computer's hard drive, because they take up too much space and they are not being currently used on the iPod.
I want to know how I can back-up only purchased videos to DVD, so that if I remove them from the library on the PC's hard drive and if, at a future date, there is a requirement to load the videos back onto to the iTunes library, I will be able to restore the videos from a DVD to the iTunes library on the PC hard drive.
Any suggestions on a backup and restore procedure to do this? Thanks.

  • Itunes HD purchased movies

Not having considered things, and getting carried away in the moment, i purchased 5 series of a popular tv show on the Apple Store in HD format.
I have an Apple TV, and a 500GB iMac.
So the Apple TV sync'd with the iMac, and now i have 160GB (100 odd episodes) eating up space on my iMac disk (which is running low on disk space as it is). I have several terabytes of external storage, but this is not always plugged into the iMac, so it kinds of defeats the whole media online thing.
Ideally id like to be able to burn the tv shows to blu-ray (i have a burner). I know i could burn them to dvd, but i'd only get 2 or 3 episodes per dvd, so it will take an age (should be obvious from opening sentence that patience is not one of my stronger points .
What is the recommended Apple solution to this problem (or maybe a non-Apple recommendation). I'm sure guys with the smaller (40GB) Apple TV must hit this problem all the time.
    Thanks in advance.

You cannot burn itunes video purchases.
From the itunes store terms of service:
"You shall not be entitled to burn video Products "
    http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html
Only put the episodes that you plan to watch very soon on your Apple TV/Imac. Keep the rest stored on back up until you need them.

  • HT3209 My purchased iTunes videos no longer play on either of my Windows 7 computers.  When I try to play any of them, it shuts down iTunes.  Any ideas?  I do have the latest itunes software loaded.  jgh

  • I can't get video purchased from iTunes to play on iTunes

So, I upgraded to iTunes 6 and I installed the upgrade Quicktime 7.0.3 that came with the upgraded iTunes. I have all the current XP Pro updates installed, I have all the memory, videocards, etc etc that are in the system requirements for iTunes 6.
I go to the music store to see how this new and snazzy video purchasing works and I bought a music video of a band I like. iTunes Music Store takes my money, iTunes downloads the video and it's in my library. Cool.
I then select the video and a picture shows up in the bottom left hand corner and I click play and sit back to enjoy this new feature.
Nothing happens. nada, zip, zero. It just doesn't play. New sound, no video, nothing. I try it again. I go to the help menu the only thing they say about problems is to give me a link to a systems requirement list.
I open up Quicktime since the help file also says I can play my purchased video on either iTunes or Quicktime. I try to open the file and I get:
    Error - 36: an I/O error occured
I check everything I can think of and still nothing.
I drop iTunes Support and they send me an email back 4 days later that says, sorry, we can't help with technical problems so deal with it (but I can't find a single article about this problem on the website) or call our help line and probably pay a fee.
I'm at a real loss as to what to do. I bought this video (granted it was only a couple of dollars, but still) and can't play it. Do any of the wonderful people out there have any ideas? I'm just glad I didn't buy more than this one video.
Thanks so very much in advance,
    Shalva del Castillo

I know exactly how you feel. I bought a video and haven't been able to watch it either. Imagine all the "couple of bucks" here and there that Apple gets to keep.
Especially when they is no one here to answer questions and we need to trackdown someone. The FAQ's are useless, like every other companies FAQ. Nothing has anything to do with real problems.

  • Issues Transferring Video Purchased on iTunes to My Video iPod..Help!

Just bought a new 60 BG Video iPod. I purchased a few videos from iTunes. However, when I connect my iPod to iTunes, only my music is transferred. The videos are not transferred. When I try to transfer the video to my iPod, I get the following messages...
'Update not possible. Error Message -50.'
'The disk could not be read from or written to.'
Anyone able to help me? Much appreciated...

There is no legal way to play videos purchased from the iTunes Store on an Archos player. They can be played on your computer or on an iPod with video.

  • My ipad2 will not play my iTunes video that i just purchased; i've deleted and reloaded, but they still won't play, only the music

My ipad2 will not play my itunes videos that i just purchased; I've deleted and reloaded them twice, but still won't play; plays music only, any suggestions?

You are playing them in the Videos app correct? Music Videos will play the video in the videos app, not in the Music app.

  • Burning a DVD with m4v music videos purchased from iTunes

Instead of buying Apple TV, I would like to burn a DVD with my collection of music videos purchased on iTunes. Most of them are Protected MPEG-4 video files, having the extension .m4v
My question what I need to do to burn a DVD with these files, without loosing the quality and maintaining the video's aspect ratio? I don't mind to upgrade my iDVD programme to the version of 2008 and QuickTime to the version of Pro, if that will help to resolve my problem. Currently iDVD 6 does not support the protected m4v files, hence I can't burn them into a DVD for watching on TV screen. Your advice is highly appreciated.

This is from the Terms of Service page for iTunes. The bottom line is that you can't burn the videos to DVD.

  • HT203180 how can you check prior to purchase if the video format is compatible, and how to get refund if purchased itunes video cannot play on the ipod

Is it possible to check prior to purchase that the iTunes video about to be purchased can played on the iPod.  Also is it possible to get refund if purchased videos from itunes are not compatible on their own products (i only play videos on my ipod).

I am having this same issue since I updated OS7. Please advise.

  • Video purchase does not appear in itunes

I have all the necessary requirements (Itunes:6.0.2, quicktime: 7.0.3,etc) When I download a video purchase. It downloads but when its in finalized mode (candycane bar) it crashes about 2-5 seconds into it, but I did find the videos in Itune folder in the main users folder but will not play in Itunes and or quicktime. When in Itunes it can not be found in the library or purchases. When I tried to load the video from the Itunes folder again Itunes crashes. On this computer there are four ipods that use this one Itunes account. I e-mailed apple support and followed their instructions and it did help with finding the videos but still does not play any videos on anything. Any suggestions would be greatly apperciated. David

You may need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service that is installed with iTunes.

  • Why aren't my video purchases on the Purchased tab in the iTunes store?

I went onto the iTunes store. They said that I could download past purchases to my new machine, which is great. But, I can't seem to find any of my video purchases, which is what I need to get. I've found Music, Apps, and Books. Am I missing something?

actually its not a cropping effect of iDVD, it's actually a cropping effect done by the TV. if you play it in say...apple DVD player, you will see everything because computer monitors (unless you set it up wrong) don't crop images.
TV does this whole cropping thing (called "Overscan" in the industry) because back in the day (and to some extent still today), CRT TVs (the big clunky ones that aren't LCD or Plasma) are very sensitive to power ratings...if you turn on something that uses a lot of electricity...say a Vaccum, the CRT will actually shrink the video in size until you turn the vaccum off. This causes some consumers to think there is something wrong with the TV and they return it. The industry solved this problem by setting the TV tube to show display everything on the glass plus some on the internal cabin of the TV (which is the part of the picture you don't see). that way, when something draws a lot of power, the whole image doesn't shrink smalller than the display surface...it just fills it. Thus, giving the consumer the benefit of the doubt.
However, with the emergence of Plasma and LCD TVs, I'd say Overscan will be a thing of the past in a few years.

  • Trouble transferring videos purchased in iTunes to video iPod

I found this to be a bit curious. I just purchased the White Stripes' "Hardest Button to Button" video in iTunes (along with 4 other music videos from other bands), and I was unable to transfer the file to my video iPod (the other four videos transferred without problem). The message said that it could not be played on this iPod. Is this a widespread or unique problem? I thought all videos purchased on iTunes were compatible with the video iPod, if not, is there a way to determine this before purchasing? Is there a way to solve this problem without purchasing additional software?

Unhelpful boilerplate response from the iTunes customer service team below. I have all of the updates (for iTunes & video iPod) and still no luck. I've even done the restore to factory settings thing, and also, no luck.
Has anybody else encountered this quirk (see my original question) and managed to work around it without purchasing any additional software?
