ITunes, Vista 64-bit, Black screen

I recently purchased a new PC which came with Vista 64-bit. I installed iTunes and when I open the application the iTune window is black. I have found several thigns online about disabling desktop compsition, switch then makes the entire screen green when I open the iTunes application.
Is this a known issue with iTunes and Vista? Is there a fix?

Well I have an update. I uninstalled MS Office and still had the black screen issue with iTunes. Resizing did not help, Turning off DEP had no effect.
To make a long story short. I found a utility I had installed from the Samsung T260 monitor CD was causing my Problem. I disabled MultiScreen in the start up configuration (msconfig from the Command prompt).
iTunes (including the new version 8) has not had the black screen since I disabled (and then uninstalled) MultiScreen.
I do not know if there is an update to MultiScreen - I don't use it anyway.
Neilapril - this has worked for me... I hope it does the same for you.

  • ITunes Vista 64 bit --- display errors

I have recently run into a problem with iTunes 8.2 for Vista 64 bit. When the window is not maximized, or close to taking up my entire screen, podcast and album covers, icons for the 'GET" for podcast, the icons for closing/max/min in the top right corner, and the store front does not scroll properly. There is a weird drawing error that seems to get resolved once I maximize iTunes to take up the entire screen.
I have uninstalled, redownloaded the latest iTunes Vista 64 bit, but to no avail remains unresolved. For the life of me I can't figure out why this is happening. I don't recall having this problem with the prior version of iTunes. I am running on a new Sager 9262 laptop with a GeForce 9800M GTX. I can't imagine this could be a video driver issue since it was working fine before.

I cannot See or hear movies or trailers I download to iTunes (Vista 64-bit v). The screen just remains blank even thought he progress bar shows seconds of play are passing. the files are .m4v. I tried opening them with Quicktime instead, but that didn't work either.

Are other iTunes Vista 64 users able to watch movies and trailers?

My iPhone prompted me to download the latest version of iOS7. I did, and now my phone won't power on. It just shows an iTunes icon on a black screen. When I connect my phone to iTunes on my laptop, the only option it gives me is to restore my phone's factory settings. But won't this erase all my photos, contacts, etc? Any suggestions?

It's in recovery mode. You don't have a choice. You have to restore the phone. Anything that was on it is already gone.
If you've been backing up/syncing on a regular basis, you won't lose anything except what's changed since the last backup.

  • Windows 7 64 Bit black Screen when trying to got back to desktop

    Hello,
just bought my a new Imac and isntalled Windows 7 64 bit without any problems.
When running a game under windows and i try to go back to the desktop with ALT+TAB or the windows key the screen gets black.I can still hear the game sound but i am not able to go back to the desktop or back to the game. The only solution is to hardboot (power on/off) the whole system. It has to be something with the 4850 HD drivers i think, i tried already to update them from the ATI homepage, no changes.
Has anybody else experienced the same problem?
    Kind regards

I recently had a problem that was similar but with OSX 10.6. It may be a long shot, but have you considered that the BIOS in the Apple Mac may be the problem?
Windows / Mac / Linux, etc... all require a series of components to unanimously agree that everything is fine and funky. If one does not, then, dependant on the problem it can either Freeze, crash or cause instability problems. At the core of any OS is its link to the base hardware, which is to all intents and purposes the BIOS.
So coming back to the problem, when I upgraded my white Macbook (4,1 version) to 10.6, I wanted to find out if it would work with the 64bit kernel of Snow Leopard. To the best of my knowledge the machine has a 32bit EFI firmware. Initially it was all bunnies and flowers in Mac-land and everything was happy with the 64bit kernel. However, this is the 'But' that usually surfaces, this was all well and good till it went to sleep. When I tried to wake the machine, things happened but it failed to reinitialize the video hardware, so a black screen and an even more puzzled look on my face. A hard reboot would solve the problem, but repeating the sleep function and putting the machine to sleep, repeated the video initialisation problem and I was cold rebooting again. Before you all come out of the wood work and say that this machine is not authorised by Apple to run 10.6 as a 64bit version, I know and did it as a test, by hacking two files in the system - It works, just don't let it sleep on you or you'll be pulling the plug. My needs for a 64bit OS are due to Adobe Lightroom and its memory problems under 32bit, which seem to be largely neutralised with the 64bit kernel. As a small side note, my newer 13.3" MacBook is all bunnies and flowers in Mac-land, even coming out of sleep mode.
Now it suggests that in the dreaded Black Screen of Death, that seems to be popping up with an alarming regularity, may have more to do with the BIOS in machines not properly sorting the peripherals and components on the PCI and PCIe buses when something radical happens. As you know, Windows Vista did some real funky stuff when switching video modes or jumping between one full screen program and the desktop. Just remember Vista did some strange video funkiness when bringing the UAC to your attention. It reminded me of the weird stuff ATI did with their 9800XT & Pro video cards when windows first started, Black screen and then reinitialise.
In your example, I believe that Direct X 10 needs to switch from the game or application to the Desktop UI. As normal windows applications are not full screen they work within the framework of the Direct X 10 and UI, but when you deal with full screen that's a different matter.
For years we have all been 32bit and happy, but then the switch to 64 bit hit the shelves and all of a sudden things ain't so good. After all the PC BIOS scene is not exactly standard fair, and in most cases the versions that float around on the Internet are all different.
I would suggest (If you can get a copy) you try to see if you can get a 32bit version of Windows 7 and see what happens - although some of the draconian measures that Microsoft go to lock you in can be frustrating, so my apologies if this is not possible. Also have you checked that the Mac has a 64bit EFI BIOS and that it is able to support this type of OS. If it does have 64bit BIOS it is generally Apple who chained their OS by restricting certain machines with capable BIOS, not the actual Hardware that is the problem. So if you have a 64bit capable BIOS then I can only think you need to check for an update or something.
The other problem is that everything Apple, but the Mac Pro, is tightly controlled by Apple. On the Mac Pro, it is feasibly possible to change some of the components in the system, all other machines are fixed. Take for instance the Video BIOS, can you find any updates or files - unless Apple deign to release it we have to suck it. After all they are in the business of supporting their machines and OS combinations, not the other Operating systems out there.
Anyway just my ten pence worth. Hope it helps.

  • Windows 7 64-bit black screen and blinking cursor for ages before boot

    Help!
I'm having the black screen with blinking cursor whenever I try and boot up Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit thru Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. If i let it just sit there for maybe 2 or 3 minutes, it then goes to the Windows Boot Manager screen and allows me to click on Windows 7 and the it boots perfect. I've tried installing it twice, same thing. No problem booting OS X Snow Leo 10.6.3. Got the right NVidia drivers installed, makes no difference. Have Paragon NTFS installed so I can get thru to NTFS partition from OS X. I badly need Windows too and don't wanna slow it down by running it in Parallels or VMWare Fusion. A little help?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Itunes Screensaver just displays black screen

I just upgraded my older Macbook / Tiger OS to a new one with Snow Leopard and used Migration Assistant to transfer all of my files and settings. All of my Itunes music has artwork that I can see when I listen to them in Itunes. However, when I turn on the Itunes artwork screensaver, it just shows a black screen. Any help is much appreciated!

--HI I just checked the subject artwork to be my screensaver---the pane was black and then slowly filled in with 7 rows across by 5 rows down of thumb nails of art. I wonder if it depends on having enough songs so the art has more artwork to rotate with. My question is why does the time now not show up near a normal clockface location as it did in leopard.

I recently bought a Qosmio X300-130 notebook which shipped with Vista Home Premium.
The problem was that I could not get onto our domain at the office. So installed Vista Business 64-bit. Can anyone please tell me what software or driver did I forget and where can I find it?

    Hi LenBlazer,
I did and they seem fine.
I contacted Lenovo customer service this afternoon and they have advised me to send my machine to them. They also mentioned that they have recently been receiving same complain from other users as well and this seems to be caused by recent windows upgrades.
I agree that the next thing that you should do is to send the unit to Lenovo for repair. Just be sure that you have backup all your files and data since Lenovo might restore the drive to factory condition. Use one Key recovery and chose a location that can accomodate the backup image files.

  • IPhone + iTunes + Vista 64-Bit OS = No Bueno

    Hey Community,
I have searched the forums and Google for the answer to this problem. I would call, but they are closed right now.
Ok, so I just bought my iPhone a couple days ago. I installed iTunes (64-bit version) for my laptop Gateway MD2614U with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit. I then proceeded to connect my iPhone to the computer and then iTunes comes up and says "The iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."
I have done this numerous times with no avail. I have tried a solution that was on here before that said that the usbappl driver was not in the correct place, but that didn't help me. In fact the usbappl file I found was usbappl64.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

iTunes doesn't officially support 64 bit Windows and the 64 bit Gear drivers you need for burning arn't supplied. You can download them from here:
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm
A number of people also had problems with the creation of the CD configuration folder, but as your iTunes is working, I guess that doesn't apply to you.
