ITunes volume control issue?

Ever since I updated my Mac to iTunes 8.2.1 I've noticed that the volume control in iTunes is fixed on about 40% volume. I can drag the control up or down and it changes the volume but it snaps back to where it was when I let go. I can still change the volume on my Mac but it won't go as loud as it could. Any ideas?

Hey tvas22,
I will do my best to assist you  in the hopes of resolving the issue with the sound button. The steps that I would start of with first, would be to do a hard reset. I have included the document Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset.
If you are still experiencing the same issue, I would set the communication level to do nothing in the Playback devices option. I have included the steps below for you to follow.
1. Right click on the Sound icon in the System Tray
2. Click on Playback devices
3. Click on Communications
4. Click on Do nothing
5. Click Apply, and close the Window
The next step to do if you are still experiencing the same issue, would be to perform a clean boot on your Split. I have included the document Using Microsoft System Configuration (Windows 8). See if following these steps you are still experiencing the issue.
Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps.
Best of Luck!

  • 5s Volume control issues

Anyone having volume control issues?  My wife's 5s (less than a month old) is having issues with the up volume.  If she mutes it using the down volume, it won't go back up.  I can get it to work if I hold the volume a long time and it eventually comes back.  Or last time i had to remove her case, hold the volume and release several times before it finally kicked in.  Any thoughts or ideas?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Please test in other computer to see if the issue persists, it may be caused by the bad output channel.
But for better solution, I recommend you go to MSDN forum for further help.

  • How to use itunes volume control in mainstage

    Hi everyone!
I want use itunes volume control in mainstage (by slider or something). Can someone help me?

You would need to write an Applescript (there are some already under Parameter Mapping>Actions>Applescript). Check online at "dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/eqandvolume.php" for some scripts for changing iTunes volume. You will need to put the Applescript in the same folder the other Mainstage Applescripts are in (drive>Library>Application Support>Logic>Mainstage Scripts). I haven't tried this myself, but why not give it a go?

  • ITunes volume control script

With the included scripts in Mainstage, I was surprised not to find one for controlling iTunes volume.
This would allow me to mix the iTunes volume from the Axiom 61 sliders while in Mainstage fullscreen.
Does anyone know of an AppleScript for this purpose?
    Thanks in advance

Well, I hope someone can find a solution to my issue. (itunes sound volume using sliders)
    Thanks for your input guys.
My knowledge of Applescript is very basic, however, I did find a script for changing the itunes sound volume using buttons.
One button increases and the next button decreases the sound volume a little bit at a time.
Here are the scripts. I modified one I found online. There may be some unnecessary lines.
    on action(parameter)
    tell application "iTunes"
if the sound volume is less than 95 then
set sound volume to (sound volume + 5)
    else
    set sound volume to 0
    end if
    end tell
    end action
and to decrease use the one below.
    on action(parameter)
    tell application "iTunes"
if the sound volume is greater than 5 then
set sound volume to (sound volume - 5)
    else
    set sound volume to 0
    end if
    end tell
    end action
A script for changing the itunes sound volume in Mainstage using a slider from my Axiom 61 is still what I'm after.

  • Volume Control Issue (Satellite L505D-S5983)

    My laptop: Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983
    So here's the issue:
Just recently I've started having problems using my volume control located next to the SD card reader slot.. You know, the volume 'slider'. It's been acting rather strangely, when I try to adjust my volume it doesn't change at all from the current volume percentage that it's at... Even when I'm sliding the slider. So then, I have to go into the manual volume in my hidden icons menu to change the volume. However, after I go through this step, I am then able to use my volume 'slider' control, and it actually works.
    So, I'd like to know:
    A) Why this is happening?
    B) Am I able to fix this issue?
    C) How would I fix this issue?

  • How does iTunes volume control affect digital output?

I'm using iTunes on a Mini with an external USB DAC. The volume control and equalizer inside iTunes affects the volume so it must be processing the digital data in some fashion.
It doesn't appear you can disable the volume control so how do I know what, if any volume setting outputs a digital stream that has not been processed by iTunes?

  • Airport or iTunes Updates Neutered iTune Volume Control ?

Not sure exactly which update did it, but, somewhere along the way when I updated to iTunes 7, the latest AirPort Update 2006-001, and Security Update 2006-005, the volume control in iTunes quit functioning. It used to work with streaming radio audio to my home stereo system. It doesn't appear to function at all. Introduced bug ?

Have you tried unplugging the Airport Express, if that does not work try resetting it

  • Option to disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers?

I have noticed that with iTunes 10, the option to disable the volume control for remote speakers seems to have disappeared from Preferences>Devices. If you click the "?" button, the help window gives an explanation of what its for but the option to check/uncheck it clearly isn't there. Since iTunes 10, streaming my music from my iMac to my Denon receiver via Airtunes/Airplay with an Airport Express has been disappointing. The volume is far too low. With version 9 and every version prior, the volume control option was always there in preferences and I always had it disabled; music came through loud and clear but since this option appears to no longer exist, the volume through the Denon receiver fails to impress, even with the iTunes volume slider at max.
Anyone else noticed steaming volume too low? If so, agree that it's a bug?
Message was edited by: Brian I.

I wholeheartedly agree with "I also used to disable the volume control to reduce the amount that my computer interferes with the sound before it gets to the external DAC." There is no reason why Apple shouldn't restore this important setting option as the volume control does negatively affect sound quality in a high-end set-up and we'd rather not just take their word for it that the volume control's maximum setting is the same as disabling it. Why does the volume slider change the output level even when using the Airport Express' digital output? It shouldn't, and it seems the sound is now being force sent through a stupid digital volume control for no good reason. If for no other reason the "disable" option should be restored to avoid inadvertent volume changes via the Remote app for iPod Touch and iPhone. Strangely as compared to several other posts here, my perceived volume level now seems louder than before, not softer as others are reporting. People that are serious about sound quality do not want iTunes or AirPlay (formerly AirTunes) to manipulate the volume level or any other aspect of the sound at all ever, as it can't help but only hurt. I also thought the "disable" setting was available in the Airport Utility previously, but it's vanished from there too.

  • 20g gig 4th generation--volume control issue

    Hi there!
I bought a 20 gig 4th generation ipod just over a year ago now. I've loved it from the start! Lately I've noticed something amiss in the volume of the ipod. I had a brief search on the forum but didn't seem to find anything in relation to the issue that I'm having.
Basically what I've noticed is that I'm needing to crank the volume up even louder than before in order to hear the music (no i'm not going deaf--my friend told me I have hearing like a bat!)
It's not the headphones--I've still got the original headphones (they work and sound fine in other things); I can hear all the songs, see all the songs, etc--it just seems that I need to crank it up higher than I've had to before.
I've also noticed this in the car when I use the tape cassette adapter. The sound system in the car is pretty good but I noticed I had to crank that up as well as the ipod in order to hear the music. The Ipod had to be cranked almost to full volume.
I don't get the sketchy sounds or distortion that I've seen people mention on the forums here. I've also got the latest firmware installed. Considering the other problems I've read on the forums, I'm considered lucky!
Any suggestions or solutions to what might be going on?
    Thanks,
    Lea

Basically I'm out of ideas. I will not consider replacing the ipod.
Well, if it's a hardware issue, then I guess you are out of luck.
However, I was considering buying earbuds with built in in-line volume control.
Will this somehow solve my solution?
It may help a little, but if you aren't wanting to have it replaced, what other options do you really leave yourself?

  • Ipad Keyboard dock: Volume Control issue with headphones.

I recently got an Ipad keyboard dock. I am unable to control the volume when a headphone is plugged in. Is there a setting that needs to be adjusted or is it bad hardware? The dock volume control works well without a headphone though...
    Thanks!

While it's nice that they tell you this on the keyboard documentation, it's still very undesirable.
Apple, please update this in a future OS release so I don't have to plug the headphones in every time I doc.
    Thank you.

  • After upgrading to 10.9.4 I have no sound.  iTunes volume control is maxed, but greyed-out.

I've updated to OS 10.9.4.  Now I have no sound from the internal speakers or my firewire sound interface ( Mackie Onyx 1640i )  I have tried different configurations in Audio setup.  Also, I recently updated my Cubase DAW software to Artist 7.5.  iMac.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do notappear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • ITunes volume control

Does anyone know if there is any way to make sure the music I record is all being recorded at the same volume. Right now, when I play my music, every song is at a different volume setting, sometimes ear-jarringly so. While listening, I have to keep adjusting the volume, which is especially annoying when I'm listening in the car.

This isn't an answer - rather glomming on to say I experience the same issues. {Didn't see fit to posting still another question about volumes, as I think I have one of these out there already - and several other people do. Partly because of sketchy & poor headers, I suppose}.
I know there is the SOUNDCHECK setting & that there is an individual track setting - neither does the trick!
SoundCheck & individual iTunes adjustment (under "get info for specific tunes" does not work.
I have had this problem for ages - ever since I started using iTunes for my purchases & burning. I've been updating - up to current X.4.10 - it hasn't worked in several revs (it NEVER has).
The last recent update to X.4.10 was the full installer 140+ MB.
    running on a PPC G5.
If this is such a common problem, I hope they cover this in depth in the help files for Leopard.

  • Ipod shuffle 3rd gen volume control issue

I have IPod Touch and IPod Shuffle 3rd gen and I bought a new pair of headphones in the Apple store in London few months back and the headphones were totally fine when used in IPod Touch. Yesterday I put them into my IPod Shuffle and I am experiencing a problem with the volume - I can't put it up or down.
It's not the "limit volume" thing, I already tried that...
    Any suggestions..?

    Hey paralelopipak,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the headphones have a volume problem only on this iPod. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Volume control issues in iOS6?

Hi, I have a Iphone 4S and have never had any volume issues while listening to music until I upgraded to ios6.
Sometimes when I use the increase volume button (pressing it only once) it keeps raising the music volume to max, and this has
deafened me a few times. I'm wondering if this is a bug in the new software update or a hardware issue. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

Try rebooting the phone by holding both the power and home button until the apple logo appears then wait for pone to restart. Try sound again
