Itunes vs IOS6 vs syncing... issues

Hi community
I just upgraded 3gs to IOS6.  During original upgrade, iTunes became non respondant which forced me to crash it.  then the phone power cycled continually as the IOS upgrade hadn't completed.
I had to factory reset the phone and verify the firmware.
Since then IOS6 is now on the phone and I have done a backup restore from the iCloud.
Issue I now have is that iTunes keeps asking me if I want to setup a new iPhone or restore my data listing my last few backups.
I have done the 'restore' a couple of times in the hope it would go away, but to no avail.
I now no longer have any option to sync the phone. and havent been able to pull the music through to the device
Thoughts/ideas ???
Cheers

I had the same problem with the ipad, at the top of the screen there should be a tab that says continue or miss this step.

  • IOS 6 and iTunes 10.7 WiFi Sync issues

WiFi sync works for a day or two then from the device is just keeps saying Looking for Mario Michela's iMac...  I restart iMac, reboot iPhone and or iPad. connect via usb cable, uncheck WiFi Sync (apply), recheck WiFi Sync. It will work again for 2 or 3 days. Then starts to fail again.
I've tried using Eithernet and wifi on the mac (no difference)
I've tried turning off the firewall (no difference)
I've reset all setting on the iPhone (no difference)
I've reset SyncServices Folder (/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsy nc.pl full) -(No difference)
I've called Apple Care 3 times, I keep getting passed around because sync is between product departments.
iOS doesn't support desktop applications, iMac doesn't support mobile devices..
I'm hoping iTunes 11 fixes this issue.. This issue didn't occur prior to iTunes 10.7.

I am getting sync issues too (although on OSX) - seems like others are getting issues too:

  • Itunes 7.5 speed sync issues (WAY TOO SLOW)

Ok. I googled this and found that I'm one of a few thousand people suffering from the same problem.
    Short Story:
    - My ipod died and is being sent to factory for replacement.
    - Borrowed girlfriends ipod since she doesn't use it much.
    - Wiped iPod and started to sync my library to it.
    - Took about 4 hours to copy a few songs... wth?
So, I looked this up online and sure enough there is a major complaint from lots of people stating that Itunes 7.5 has major issues, especially with sync-lag. I can't wait the required 7 days to sync my 15K songs and hundred or so audiobooks... so?
I can't use the "revert to Itunes 6.0.5" trick because my library is HUGE and I've made massive edits to the library since the upgrade to 7.5.
Itunes was running GREAT prior to last week. I've been using it on Vista for most of two years now with absolutely no problem... until now.
Is there any update on when Apple is going to correct this bug? Are there other threads about this? (Official threads on here I mean.. they are all over other forums on the web) (I searched but came up empty after a brief attempt).

I have a similar problem. I get a message saying Itunes was not properly installed and that I will not be able to copy or burn. Also not able to Sync Ipod touch. Told to uninstall and reinstall. Do this as suggested via the help site but same problem.
    Any ideas anyone

  • I have a itunes 11, iMac, iPad sync issue... all new kit, the itunes library and photos are on a networrk drive but syncing is useless, no music, no photos, no video, sometimes music and videos may be visible but greyed out on the ipad....

This is my first posting so sorry for the messy title... I didn't realise how it all worked here.
I have a shiny new imac, shiny new ipad and have all my media on a network hard drive - itunes works fine on the mac - no problems - photos visible in finder and photoshop - no problems, but when I come to sync the new ipad - several things may happen (I have tried many times now)
    1) a long wait - whirly gig round spinner thing - then music visible on the ipad but greyed out and useless
    2) no photos at all synced
    3) no videos synced
    4) info syncs ok
    5) apps seem to have synced OK
It is not a data size issue as the same amount of data synced before the new kit from my old windows pc on to an iPod - I daren't try syncing the ipod as I need it for my next business trip.
I tried removing the ipod cache files for the photos - no difference - I tried restoring the ipad - no difference
Have I completely wasted a large amount of money?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

  • ITunes and iPhone 4 sync issues with Windows 7 64 bit

I am getting several errors with sync'ing iTunes to my iPhone on windows7 64bit. I reinstalled iTunes, I did a repair on iTunes, even tried a RESTORE on iPhone, but it gives me so many errors one after another after another.
    1. Some of the items were NOT copied to iPhone "iPhone" because one ore more errors occured.
    2. Attempting to copy to the disk "iPhone" failed. An internal device error occured.
    3. The iPhone "iPhone" can NOT be synced. An unknown error occured (0xE8004006).
    4. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. The required file can not be found.
    5. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. A duplicate filename was specified.
    6. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. An internal device error occured.
These errors keep appearing one after the other.
I have fully uninstalled iTunes and ALL Apple programs from my PC, rebooted, disabled antivirus/firewall software, etc.
I have tried changing time zones.
I have created a new user account on same laptop and still have same issues with iTunes.
Restore fails with error "Unable to read file or file is corrupt".
Yet iTunes works fine on a 32bit operating system of Windows 7.
The problem is that I upgraded my laptop and the new laptop is Win7 64bit. I have ALL the newest drivers, and I checked to ensure it was not a BIOS or CHIPSET driver causing issues. All windows updates are up to date and current.
I have been trying for over a week with every piece of trouble shooting I can find to make this work.
Any help or further information would be VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED.
    Thanks in Advance

I too am having the exact same issues on the same laptop! I spent an hour last night with "supervisor" in tech support who didn't solve my problem but did close the ticket (210757099 for any Apple people that might read this). Thanks a lot Ben!
I have seven ipod/iphone/ipad devices so I am very familiar with how to sync. In the last few weeks, version 10.2 of iTunes (I'm up to 10.2.1.1) has gotten less and less reliable in successfully sync'ing to the devices. It started out with my 3GS, but my iPhone 4 was fine. Then I got an iPad2 and now NOTHING will sync properly. Every time I plug one in (or press the sync button) it wants to do a restore from the backup made the last time it sync'd. It does that, reboots the device and sync's.
    I've gotten a ton of errors, here's a sample.
iBooks couldn't be installed on my iPhone unknown error 0xE800000C
Textie couldn't be installed on my iPhone, unknown error 0xE8000013
"failed required file not found" - This is one of my favorite error messages. It demonstrates how Apple is becoming like Microsoft. It is 100% accurate and totally useless. It would be helpful if it told me the NAME of the file that was not found...
    unknown error 0xE8004006
"duplicate file found" - Again, in true Microsoft form, it didn't tell me the NAME of the file that was duplicated.
I tried everything discussed in the following thread but it did not work.

Stopping the enhanced USB controller didn't work. Mine is the Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller (version 9.1.1.1020).
A few days ago I got hundreds of errors in a sync. When it completed, a dialogbox came up asking if I wanted to send this crash report to Apple, I said yes. So, crash reports are now automatically being sent. You can see evidence of this in the %appdata%\Apple Computer\Logs directory.
This section of the log looked interesting because it says it couldn't connect to USB mux port 32498

  • Belatedly upgraded to iTunes 11; iCloud and syncing issues with iPod

There are now a bunch of tracks in my library listed as iCloud tracks; confusingly, some are duplicates of other tracks, and some are not. Also, with no other change than the iTunes upgrade, it's telling me that I'm way over the limit and can't sync my library to my iPod. I'm sure this is simple but I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    diesel vdub, i use 11.1.1
solved the issue today. first sync with itunes, so all the stiff you bought on the mobile will be backuped.
    1. uncheck sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be erased from mobile device
    2. check music player on the mobile device. just the unwanted songs will still be there
    3. go on the iphone to settings, general, usage, music player. there is just a few mb from the remaining unwanted songs. swipeleft and erase the content. switch iphone off and on again
    4. repeat step 2. there will be no data. otherwise repeat step 3
    5. check sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be back again but not the unwanted songs.

  • ITunes, iPhoto & Aperture - odd sync issue

    Hi all,
I am a user of both iPhoto & Aperture, with unified photo library, and occasionally sync one or more events to my iPhone (rather than syncing all photos automatically).
I've noticed recently a rather odd issue, where iTunes does not seem to be "seeing" my iPhoto library. If I set Aperture to the source, then all my events/projects show up correctly. If I choose iPhoto as the source, 0 photos .
Opening the library directly in either iPhoto or Aperture works just fine - all events and photos present and correct - so the issue appears to be around the link from iPhoto to iTunes - weirdly, given the unified library, Aperture to iTunes seems to be fine.
Whilst I _could_ just sync to Aperture, a) the error bugs me , and I'd like to sort it out, and b) iPhoto is a better manager of events (chronological order etc) so I would prefer to use iPhoto to sync to iPhone, iPad etc.
I'm running Mountain Lion and both Photo apps are up to date. Hopefully some kind soul can assist!?

    Hey Aljrob_UK
Thanks for the question. It sounds like there may be a permissions issue with your iPhoto library, let's see if repairing this will help to resolve the issue. See the additional information section of the following article:
Important: Please backup your library first (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2504)
iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638
    Additional Information
iPhoto 9.3 and later introduces a new Library First Aid dialog in place of the previous rebuild options.
If Repair Permissions does not resolve your issue, attempt Repair Database and/after Rebuild Database. You can skip the Rebuild Thumbnails.

  • IPod Touch 4G and iTunes 10.2.2 sync issues on mac?

    Hey,
I recently purchased an iPod Touch 4G 32GB as a replacement for my iPod Touch 2G 8GB, I plugged it into iTunes on the first boot up of the iPod, like normal, and expected to be presented with the usual set of prompts about how I would like to set up my iPod. However, the iPod appeared in the sidebar, but nothing happened to the main portion of the program, and upon unplugging the iPod, iTunes simply crashed, and I was presented with an error message. I put the iPod into DFU mode, and tried a manual restore, then had to restore from a separate firmware file I downloaded for 4.3.2.
I assume from the failure of all of these methods, there must be some sort of problem with iTunes 10.2.2 for Mac and iOS 4.3.2 for iPod Touch 4G. In the end, i managed to get the iPod operational on my PC in an older version of iTunes, however, it still does not sync properly, and if I try to sync movies to the iPod, iTunes crashs like it did before. Is there a known fix for this problem? Or have I got a faulty device? Also, the sync messages are all distorted.
    Thanks!

  • ITunes upgrade and iPod syncing issues

I opened itunes and it said there was an upgrade for it. I installed it and when I plug in my ipod, it syncs, then when I try to sync it again, it does not. on the initial opening of itunes I noticed that windows has the ipod drive listed as "G". upon syncing it disappears. I unplugged the ipod and then plugged it back in. windows again recognizes the ipod and the ipod automatically syncs when connected so it can find it in itunes. as soon as its done syncing, again it disappears from windows. there has to be a fix for this. as far as I can tell its in the itunes software that is causing this because I have not changed any drivers. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't want to do manual update, theres nothing else we can really recommend. You might want to invest in a cheap External drive and put all your music on it. You can get one for 100 or less if you shop around

  • ITunes and iPad 4 sync issues

After I have watched and deleted a video, if I do so on my iPhone or iPod touch when I sync then the blue circle disappears showing the video has been watched.
However, on my new iPad 4, when I have watched and deleted a video, when I sync with iTunes the blue circle doesn't disappear and the video is still showing as un-watched.
    Any ideas ?
I am running Windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes and iOS on the iPad.

  • ITunes 11.1.3-syncing issues

I've been having this problem for a few days now. I've been unable to sync some of my music on my ipod touch, which is a 5th generation. It's starts and stays on the "waiting for changes to be applied" bit for about a minute, then when it gets to around the 8th song (sometimes it's over 200 songs that need to be synced, but recently, it says only 29), then it cancels by itself. I've tried everything I can think of and everything the websites say. I've reset the ipod to factory settings, I've restarted my computer (it's a PC), I've updated my itunes, I've unticked and reticked my music, I've selected "manage music manually", I've changed USB ports, basically everything that's available. And judging by the threads I've seen on this website, I'm not the only one having this problem.  It's never had this problem before, and I really want this to be sorted.
Additional info: most of the music that refuses to sync has come from CDs that I've burned onto iTunes. I've also been charging my iPod in a special USB plug, since my computer had been completely wiped clean a while ago, so I lost everything and had to put togather a spreadsheet of all the songs I had and still had. It's fine now, but I'm not sure if reintroducing the ipod to my computer caused this problem. It's never had that problem before. I've charged it away from my computer loads of times and it turned out fine.

  • Itunes and Iphone 3gs syncing issues

I have tried to sync my Iphone 3gs (3.1.3) and Itunes (9.1.1.11) a couple of times. It has been about 2 1/2 hours into each sync and it appears to get stuck, or atleast very slow, not even a 1/3 of the way. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Justin

You could do that, or just completely reset your phone and re-sync everything. You may have a corrupted file somewhere that is causing the back-up to take so long. When I had the problem, it went away when I deleted the news reader apps. I think the apps where causing the problem because I could read the news articles offline, so they were being cached and all that content was being backed up every time as well. If you have any app like that where you can use it without a cell signal, it could be that.

  • Itunes - AIR Iphone application - Sync issue

I created a test AIR application using iphone packager. I followed all the steps descriped in the developer guide
    to build the application.
When I sync the application with my iPhone it shows the error :
The application "xxxxx" was not installed on the iphone "xxxx" because the entitlements are not
    valid.
I tried deleting all the certificates/provision files and created new ones. Still, I get the
    same error.
    Any help is highly appreciated.

Looks like the issue is in specifying the app-id. I removed the bundle id from the app id in the configuration
file. It installed without any issue

  • HT201210 Anyone having Windows 8.1 and ITunes, IOS 7.1 sync issues

I'm having multiple issues with all my devices that have been updated to Windows 8.1 (PC) and the latest updates for ITunes, especially on the devices that have already been updated to IOS 7.1. I'm only referencing my IPhone 5S because it was the first device I had trouble with. I am having issues with all my other devices too but this is the latest hardware and software from both Apple and Windows. Please advise. Would like to know if it's just user-error or a systemic issue.
    Thanks in Advance

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Itunes/Outlook Calendar Syncing Issue - UTF-8 Flavor

I have had the usual and much discussed issue of outlook calendar does not sync with iTunes. The recommendations have been to remove iTunes and re-install, even blow away all the configuration files as well, and it even worked for me once. But not this time.
I was running Windows XP, and all of a sudden the Outlook 2007 calendar just stopped syncing. I upgraded from XP to 8.1, and that was not fun, but inevitable, and still didn’t correct the problem. Now, if you never upgraded from XP to 8.1 – you can’t – at least it is not a direct flight. First, you have to upgrade from XP to 8.0, then from 8.0 to 8.1, and there is no upgrade in place from XP to 8.0. So what does an upgrade in place mean? Your applications and profiles are not carried over. Just your data (if you ask nicely) is carried over – but all applications have to be re-installed from scratch, and reactivated if there was license activation.
So, forget about re-install of iTunes, I changed OS, reinstalled iTunes and Office 2007 from scratch. And still had the syncing problem. So, I wasn’t getting off easy.
In searching, I found some debugging stuff which I tried, as follows to turn on logging:
    So, I ran the following:
    cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
    defaults write com.apple.Outlook.client.exe ShouldLog YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogEverything YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogPersonalInfo YES
And this turned on a lot of tracing. The tracing helped me understand what was going on under the covers, But I am not sure I was getting enough of the information that I needed to really zero in on the bad record.
Now, I will pause and provide some observation of my specific Sync.
An iTunes Sync on a Windows machine when using Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer is selected on the INFO tab of the page for the device.
Selections include Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks and Notes.
One of the programs involved with Outlook Synchronization is: com.apple.Outlook.client.exe
The program is called when Outlook data needs to be accessed, and is used for contacts, calendar and notes when those items are paired between the iDevice and Outlook. Bookmarks are usually paired with the browser, for example IE.
During the sync operation, each of these are sync’d separately, that is why if you follow the sync actions, iTunes will reflecting what is being synced at the moment, for example “syncing contacts”.
When syncing the calendar, and iTunes is running a slow sync, it reads the Outlook calendar using the com.apple.Outlook.client.exe and does processing of the recursion and time zone information.
    For example, for recurrence:
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Setting recurrence data <04300430 0d200200 000000ae 06000c00 00000000 00000400 00002120 0000e703 00000000 00000000 00000000 0000a0e7 980cc016 d10c0630 00000830 00000000 0000a005 00000000 00000000 00000000>
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] 0 recurrence exceptions
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Reading the Extended Exception Info (i.e. Unicode data)
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Done making compatible recurrence
    For example, for timezone:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:43 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Could not create a time zone from outlook name, tried using name (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Then the calendar entries are pushed, for example:
    ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829304082700 =     {
            "all
    day" = 1;
            calendar
    =         (
                ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829382800000
    "com.apple.outlook.freebusy" = Free;
    "com.apple.syncservices.RecordEntityName" = "com.apple.calendars.Event";
            "end date" = "2020-05-11 12:00:00 +0000";
            location = "United States";
            "start date" = "2020-05-10 12:00:00 +0000";
            summary = "Mother's Day";
So, my SYNC fails, and I crash and burn with:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:22 2014] [_ISDVLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] SyncServices assertion failure (nil != strUTF8) in [(null) (null)], SDLogging.m:641 could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:23 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] objcMain caught an exception:
    name
    NSInternalInconsistencyException
    reason     : [(null)
(null)]: could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    user info  : (null)
    call stack : (
Now I’m back. So, during the extract and push of the outlook calendar entries, iTunes is building formatted strings. Now, Unicode is usually 16 bit (2 characters) Unicode, sometimes called double byte code. UTF-8 is single byte, so realize you can’t squeeze 16 bits into a 8 bit byte. However, you could if the Unicode string only contained characters that were valid for the UTF-8 character set. My interpretation of the error message above was that somewhere a formatted character string contained a “non-UTF-8” character and raised the assertion. Now, my issue with the excessive detailing from the logs was that – at least with the logging parameters I had turned on – I couldn’t figure out which calendar entry caused the exception to be thrown.
First instinct was  that the last calendar entry in the trace was the culprit, so I deleted that calendar entry, ran again, the sync went up to the previous entry, and threw the exception. This gives me two theories: Either the sync was processing the next entry – which wasn’t printed in the trace yet – and failed, or the sync was going back to previous records – like reviewing the buffer. In either case, the trace wasn’t helping and it was all theories.
Now what? What has everyone been saying? Issues with recurrence. And in the trace, as you see above as an example, “0 recurrence exceptions”, “reading the extended exception info (i.e. Unicode data)”.
Now, I have no clue what that means. My initial guess was that recurrence exceptions (I had non-zeros on some) was an error. But further research I realized what it could mean was that these were situations where there were recurrence exceptions. What is a recurrence exception? Suppose I want to schedule a meeting on the 4th day of the month, for every month of the year. Well, except maybe July 4th, because it is a holiday and the office is closed. I would send the meeting invite, and then a cancellation for the July 4th. (I hear there is no simple way to do this). I now have an exception because I broke the recurrence chain. Other forms of exceptions is if I keep changing the location, or the body of the invite – e.g. every month I update the agenda, but only for one recurrence, not the entire series.
So, keep in mind,  that if the issue is conversion to a UTF-8 character, and it is failing, then uninstall/reinstall of anything is not going to help if the real issue at hand is the data in Outlook and is not a coding or configuration issue. Now, sometimes it is an issue, but you need to see why the syncserver tasks are failing, and may fail due to other reasons including other data issues.
So, what did I do? Well IO have 15K calendar entries, which, was taking an hour or two to slow sync (I call it a slow dance) and I was, spending days (maybe a couple of weeks) trying to fix this – and frustration was on the high end.
I removed some of my older recurrences, and changed others from never expire to like 25 maximum occurrences. No idea which one worked, or even if it was a coincidence. However, the UTF-8 error went away, and then I moved to the next issue.
Now, before we get there, with outlook 2007 finding recurrences is not difficult. Go into the calendar, and select appointment or list view (Outlook 2013 list view works ok). You can then sort on the recurrence column and see which (if any) items gave a recurrence pattern. Now maybe someone can figure out specific BAD calendar items that are throwing the exception to give us a better idea of what to look for and then report it so we can do further research.
Now, once we can get the issue out of the way, stop iTunes from throwing an exception, we are not 100% done yet. By this time what is in Outlook and on the iDevice is out of sync. We need to get that message to popup asking us if we want to merge the data between the iDevice and Outlook. This can be important if you don’t want to lose data. My issue is that with iTunes 11.2.2 for some reason won’t do it, i.e. when I select “reset sync history” it doesn’t work. At that point I was forced to rename my iTunesprefs, the syncserver folder, and a few other folders. In this case, for Windows 7 and later, the folders in “Apple Computer” of both the local and roaming paths, and I had to cancel running tasks that had those folders open. One way or another, you want the iTunes message asking if you want to merge the folders.
What can you do to help?

Report if you are getting the same UTF-8 message, or if you are seeing other exceptions
Report specific cases of calendar entries that you find that you have isolated to be throwing an exception
Report any other logging/tracing parameters that you may find. It looks like you can turn on “ShouldLog” using the defaults.exe command for other tasks that iTunes runs.
This syncing issue has been going on for years, under different iTunes versions, there has to be something going on and an easier way to troubleshoot this problem. I wish I had the time, but right now I fixed the problem I had and was able to resync my Outlook with my two iPads and iPhone.
The only issue I have left at the moment is the message “the ipad xxx cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-54). – despite this error message, I am syncing, but the message is distracting and annoying.

Yes - both have time zone support and are set to London/GMT
The most recent of these aberrations was not even crossing a DST change - just a simple recurring event (which I've manually changed to single events by copy/paste).
I just tried a new one which goes back 1 hr 27 Oct - when UK clocks go back. As it's a dummy apt I'll leave it and see if if goes back to the correct time on 27 Oct! In the meantime, I can't afford for my appts to get screwed up so will continue to do them manually!
    Thanks for your input.
