ITunes vs iPhone 6 Plus storage

I Have had the 4S, 5S, and now the 6 plus and I noticed that in iTunes it shows 2 oddities. in iTunes it shows 1.81 GB available on my 6 plus and total photo usage of 1.28 GB with 621 photos but when I look at available space in the settings on my phone shows only 211 MB available and I have less than 500 photos.  I have also started getting the storage almost full message a lot more since I got my 6 plus never saw it on my 5S or 4S.  Any ideas on these issues?

There is apparently a bug with photo storage. The following document explains how to find and delete photos that may still be taking up storage when they shouldn't be: Why does my iOS device say I have more photos than I can find?

hi, I finally got lucky and past the "other" memory status issues when syncing. Now I'm "waiting for changes to be applied" sync stuck all night (itunes yesomite iPhone 6 plus). is this a bug? I have not had a single successful sync with yesomite.
please help. this issue prevents music from syncing. I have set the sync setting to convert songs to 192kbps AAC to save space, I figure that could slow the sync
down, but it's hanging indefinitely (I've left it for 24 hours with out it completing.)
the the only music that appears on the phone are songs purchased from the iTunes Store. 95% of my collection are rips from my CDs.
    thank you for any help!

Yeah it's pretty sad that $1000 phone they put out you such cheap memory It causes issues, I have iPhone 6+128 GB actually this is the second brand-new one they gave me because they keep affording it trying to act like that's not the issue because they're too stupid to know how to check what memory is in each one before they give it to me when I have told them multiple times my back up runs perfectly fine on two 5s phones and a 6 64GB of course running MLC memory.
I told them it's because just like the write ups say I have 809 apps but I have not even put all my music on the phone so I'm still running 50 to 60 gigs free and it crashes and reboots itself sometimes in multitasking and more often than it does that in between multitasking I get a black screen for 1 to 2 seconds in between apps and upon start up the Apple logo screen will flicker and do weird things, One of the genius idiots asked me if I could just delete some of my apps, really that's the answer to fix the phone the customer needs to limit the amount to apps they put on their phone, why the **** get a 128 gig if you can't put on anything you want to it guess they need to start selling them saying you can only put a limited number of apps on them, it's really is a **** joke, I have over $20,000 of Apple merchandise easily and always get the new phone every year but I'm starting to reconsider my decisions in the future because this company is starting to go downhill, The reason water not recalling the phones is because they're dealing with their top-of-the-line thousand dollar phones in this case and most people don't have over two or 300 apps so they're not having as many issues, so basically they have messed up phones they just don't know it in their hands and Apple is just too **** greedy to recall the phones, they'd rather sell customer spends that only work half ***.
Stuff like this will be the downfall of their company, all the people that stay with them because as long as you don't jailbreak their stuff it normally just works without issue will be soon jumping ship if stuff like this keeps up, because I can guarantee they got me thinking now.
not that I wanted to know or should I be expected to but I even offered for them to open up my brand-new phone and just replace the memory to MLC memory which is something I shouldn't have to do with a brand-new **** phone, they should just make one with the right memory and give me a new phone, actually just don't sell customers that buy the top-of-the-line phone from you trash ones in the first place that would be a great option.
what burns me up the most is when you talk to AppleCare and Genius Bar they try to act like the issue isn't there and they're unaware of it, they say that Apple hasn't come out with any information about it, yeah that's because they don't want to recall the trash.
Apple has became nothing better than your run-of-the-mill company, android is becoming just as good as they are sad to say this since I have been an Apple fan for so long but there is no excuse for BS like this they have been looking for options to fix my phone for a month now this is not the way you should treat loyal customers, I would've been better off keeping my 5S and in the future just switching to android.
it's pretty sad that the company has no idea how to check which memory is in their **** phone and even after I offered to let them just replace the memory in my new phone by opening up my brand-new phone to replace it they have no idea how to do that either, yeah Genius Bar sure, I think that should change the name to idiot bar and Apple don't care instead of Apple care.

  • IPhone 6 plus storage usage spikes over 30GB

    I have an iPhone 6 plus 64GB. iOS 8.2.
SInce the 8.2 update, my phone has been giving me a notifcation saying that it has low storage. When I look at my usage, I have 5GB of photos, 2 GB of music and various smaller apps under 1 GB. The available storage number is small or even 0kb. After I close all of my apps, the available storage spikes to about 35GB!
Any ideas as to what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hey vinedine,
I would suggest reviewing your storage usage in iTunes to get another perspective of the data that is being stored on your iPhone.    See the "View storage usage for your iOS device in iTunes" in the article below.
Take a look at your Mail and Messages apps.  Many times, the photo and video attachments in those applications can take a lot of space on your device.
See how much storage you've used on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201656
If your device is near its capacity or you get an alert that your storage is full, you can remove some of your less used content to make room for more.
iTunes displays how much space the selected songs, videos, audiobooks, and apps use in the status bar on the bottom of the screen. You can also see this information by selecting an item and then choosing File > Get Info. The size is available in the Summary tab.
You can transfer or sync content to your computer from your device. If you want to remove certain types of content from your device, learn how to manually manage content using iTunes.
    Hope that helps ...

  • IPhone 6 Plus Storage Mystery

Here's the scoop: I've got an iPhone 6 Plus. I can find NO audio files anywhere on it. I stream my music using either iTunes Match or Rdio. I've perused settings > general > usage > manage storage, looked in every app listed and there are NO audio files. Anywhere (that I can find)! So, how--or more precisely WHERE-- could I possibly have 22 audio files taking up 4.1 GB of storage (see image below)?! And, how could 22 audio files eat up that much space anyway?! They're not in Podcasts, the Rdio app (I don't download), or Music. I have no audio books. The app taking up the most storage are Messages, and it's currently only using 471 MB; s a matter of fact, I added up all the apps and they're only using 5.7GB. So, what's using up all this storage and, more importantly, how the heck to I get rid of those unwanted, phantom 4.1 GB of 22 phantom songs?!

Thanks to both of you for your help.
@ sberman-- neither music tab showed any songs. The iPhone music tab showed that iTunes match is on w/the sync voice memos box unchecked. The My Device music tab showed no music at all.
The mystery continues: when I synced the phone this evening, the phantom 22 songs were gone but now the "Other" is eating up over 6 GB--the manage storage settings are the same as last night. I'm just going to restore the phone from the backup. I had the same issue on my iPhone 4, and that would always do the trick. Wish Apple would come up with an easier way to clear that "Other" storage--seems to be an ongoing issues.
    Thanks again.

  • Can't sync personal ringtone from iTunes to iPhone 6 plus

    Hi
I have created a personal ringtone , a 20 sec clip. I saved it as an arc and renamed it to .M4R
I added it to iTunes which correctly put it in the tones folder. I connected my iPhone - checked the sync tones option /all
    and hit sync.
The ringtone refuses to come across.
I am using iOS 8.1 and iTunes v12.0.1.26
    any help would be great
    thanks
    Tony

    Hello,
I just discovered something yesterday as I was having the exact problems. Here are some questions that I'll ask with my comments next to them.
    1. Did you burn CDs onto your computer's hard-drive? If so, your iTunes will treat these files differently than if you had used iTunes or downloaded an .mp3. There are quite a few different formats which can be played on your iTunes or iPhone. They are: .mp3, .wav, .m4a, and more . I have no problems with the .mp3 format, but I do have problems with the other formats. I believe that you would have to convert your format of your song from, let's say, a .m4a to a .aac. Then, I delete the .m4a format to avoid redundancies.
This was my biggest issue, and I hate it. It's very cumbersome. I hate iTunes, in general.

  • Mac itunes trying to restore my iphone 6 plus

Both my Mac iTunes and iPhone 6 Plus are updated to the latest version. When I connect my iPhone via usb to my MBA, the Mac iTunes is asking to either set up my iPhone as new or restore from backup. The problem is the back up is only showing my iPad and iPad mini which probably I had them backup to the Mac instead of iCloud.
I would like to sync some content from the Mac to my iPhone but is not able to do so because of this. Btw the iPhone had been restored from my previous iPhone using iCloud backup which is under the same account as the iTunes (same username and password).
I have no problem backing up my photos and videos from the iPhone to the Mac using iPhoto.
How do I solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

Also having the problem. Phone ended up restoring to the last iTunes back up I'd made in October. Lost a few apps, texts and photos (also gone from photostream too) but music / playlists thankfully ok. Given up using iCloud for back up, decided to try to stick with iTunes again and see if that helps.

  • IOS 8: iTunes Match hogging huge amount of storage space on iPhone (6 Plus)

    Hi there!
I use iTunes Match for a long time now, Have about 18k Songs in in all tagged incl. covers (compressed with JPEG mini app)
After updating to iOS 8, I'm quite sure that Match seems to be the root of a massive use of "other" storage space on my new iPhone 6 Plus. I opted for the 16GB because I thought I don't need more because of iTunes Match. Apparently I was mistaken as the baseline design by Apple is no longer sufficient for using the basic services Apple provides. I tried to solve the problem by restoring the Phone two weeks ago, but the problem reoccurs no matter wether I create a new iPhone and activate iTunes Match or restore it form an iCloud Backup.
I made some screenshots to show the problem:
Note that I have deleted every single cache-file prior to this screenshot and that there is not a single music file on the iPhone.
There also still seems to be a problem with the delete-function integrated in iOS, as music-data is not always wiped, but that's old news I think:
After experimenting with deactivating and activating iTunes Match on the phone and downloading a short album (~50MB) for testing purposes, this happened:
I am out of ideas how to fix this...Applecare is more or less not available right now here in Germany because of the iOS 8.0.1 disaster.
I'm really ****** of as more and more space is eaten up on my phone without even having any use of it. Restoring my iPhone every 2 weeks can't be the answer.
Does anybody have an idea how to fix this? Is this problem a known bug and fixed in iOS 8.1?
    Any help is appreciated
    Kind regards,
    Thorbjörn

    Hello Dan,
I am having the exact same issue except mine might be a little worse. I restored my phone and "set up as new" about 3 times. I didn't have much to lose as far as "backup" was concerned so I just went ahead and wiped the whole phone clean. I am missing 10gb.
I Have accepted the fact that iOS takes 5.2GB of storage to run my phone (which is ridiculous). I have also added up all my used data in the "manage storage" portion in setting and it adds up to about 2gb. So basically I have about 10GB unaccounted for. I chatted with apple twice and talked to supervisors and they all tried to walk me through the same process of restoring, rebooting, clearing cache, resetting etc. nothing has worked. I've come to the conclusion that it's a faulty flash drive and we just need to return our phones for new ones. Nothing can be done.

  • My iPhone 6 Plus connected to itunes but wont pop up on My computer i cant manage my internal storage

I tried several times to appear the internal storage file on my computer but it wont

    Hi SeanRamos,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPhone 6 Plus connecting to your computer. Are you experiencing the issues within iTunes? If so, check out the relevant article for your operating system:

  • Storage Breakdown On iTunes and iPhone Do Not Match Up

I will preface this question by providing the following information:
    Computer Information
Model: MacBook Pro, mid 2009, 15 inch
    Capacity: 1 TB
    OS: Yosemite (10.10.1)
    iTunes Version: 12.0.1.26
    iPhone Information
Model: iPhone 6 Plus, purchased early 1/2015
    Capacity: 128 GB
    OS: iOS 8.1.2
Okay here's the problem. I was attempting to sync my iPhone 6 Plus with my iTunes library. I have about 50 GB of music which I normally carry around on my iPhone, which amounts to about half of my total storage. On my latest sync, I was told in iTunes that I do not have enough space to complete the sync. Here's what the display looked like:
    As you can see:
    > The total capacity for audio is displayed as being 49.67 GB (aprox. 6889 songs).
    > The total capacity for photos is displayed as being 6.89 GB (aprox. 10,647 photos).
    > The total capacity for apps is displayed as being 5.04 GB (aprox. 110 apps).
    > The total capacity for other is displayed as being a whopping 45.08 GB.
Upon seeing this, I'm shocked that the other category is taking up so much space. I immediately go to my iPhone to begin trying to eliminate things that could possibly be taking up all this space. When I take a look at my iPhone usage, I see this:
As you can see, the photos and apps are approximately correct, but the songs are way off. In addition, the free space I have on my iPhone according to iTunes is 6.12 GB. According to my iPhone though, I have 47.1 GB (see the screenshot of my iPhone above).
Essentially the storage breakdown on my iPhone and iTunes does not match up. I'm not sure how to fix this problem without restoring the phone, which I want to avoid doing if I don't have to.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is anyone aware of a possible solution?
    Thanks.

If it was an iOS bug I would expect to see it on the 3 devices I have upgraded to iOS 8. I don't see it on any. I would also expect there to be thousands of posts and views about it, as somewhere over 100 million users have updated. This is the only thread I have seen, and you are the only one posting about it.
Go to Settings/iCloud. Turn off Find my iPhone. Then go to Settings/general/reset - Erase all content and settings. Check your "Other". I would expect it to be minimal.

  • IPhone 6 plus usage/storage almost full

My 16gb iphone 6 plus is giving me a warning that I am almost out of space , yet when I sync it to iTunes it lists that I have 4gb of space. I have all my music on iTunes Match and have about 1.3 gb of photos. I've cleared out caches of some apps and deleted and reinstalled others like Twitter and Instagram. I wasn't able to use my camera because the storage was full, yet another camera app camera pro worked. What am I missing?

I know that a portion is for the OS. But it under the storage it shows 1.3 GB used and 10GB free. There is at least 2GB missing. Now with some apps installed I have 5.4GB used and 6.4GB free. Thats 11.8GB, so the OS is 3-4GB in size?

  • Missing Storage Space on iPhone 6 Plus

I have an iPhone 6 Plus 16GB Verizon model and although I know this question has been asked a number of times, I can't seem to find an answer that actually makes sense to me so here goes.
The phone was bought new in January 2015 and a backup from my old iPhone 5 was loaded onto this phone.  Going through the process, iTunes showed the phone as having a capacity of 14.x GB of space before the backup was installed.  After the backup, Settings - General - About shows capacity as 11.8 GB as seen below.
So far so good.  I follow that the loss from the touted 16 GB down to 11.8 GB is due to formatting and iOS taking space.
Now the part I don't seem to understand.  I just connected the phone to iTunes and did a backup and iTunes shows the phone as having 6.45 GB of available space.  If I eject the phone and reconnect to iTunes, it still shows that there is 6.45 GB of available space, yet when I go to Settings - General - Usage, it states that 8.5 GB are used and 3.3 GB are available as seen below.
So, where is the missing 3.15 GB.  I clicked on Manage Storage and went through every item listed and added up all the space that these items are using and the total comes to 5.35 GB, yet it is saying  8.5 GB is used in the pic above.
Can someone please explain where the missing 3.15 GB can be found.  I have only been using the phone for about 3 months and I don't stream music or videos, etc  and I do NOT have iOS 8.3 sitting on my phone waiting to be installed.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me a rational explanation as to where this hidden 3 GB resides and how I can reclaim it.
    Thanks.
    Dan

  • Iphone 6 plus screen frozen when downloading movies from itunes

My iphone 6 plus screen froze up when I tried to rent/download 2 movies on iTunes. I did  not have enought free space to accommodate I guess, so instead I tried downloading it on my iPad since I had more storage space...but when I tried to rent it on my iPad instead, iTunes says I already rented it... Will I be paying for the two movies I rented since I dont have enough space to watch it? And how do I unfreeze my screen?

    Hello there, Zara2aj.
When renting movies on your iOS device, the following Knowledge Base article explains where to locate it and the availability of that rental on other devices:
FAQs about renting movies from the iTunes Store - Apple Support
Where can I find movies that I rented?
Find your movie on the device you used to rent it. Follow these steps:
Mac or PC: Go to the Rentals tab in the Movies section of the iTunes Library.
iOS device: Go to the Rental tab of the Videos app.
    Apple TV:
2nd or 3rd generation: Look in the top shelf of the main menu.
1st generation: Go to Movies > Rented Movies.
Where can I watch movies that I rented?
    Mac or PC
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (with iOS 3.1.3 or later)
iPod classic, iPod nano (3rd, 4th, or 5th generation)
    TV using Apple TV
Watch your movie on the device you used to rent it. If you rented the movie on your computer, you can move it to an iOS device or Apple TV (1st generation). To do this, connect the devices and sync using USB. When you move a rented movie from your computer, it will disappear from your computer’s iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as much as you want, but you can only have it on one device at a time.
If you rented the movie on your iOS device or Apple TV, you can’t move it to any other device.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Iphone 6 plus will not connect to itunes through my computer

Got the new Iphone 6 Plus and for some reason when I plug into computer (which should normally automatically start up iTunes) it does not!!!  Can anyone help me in setting this up.   I played around with it for some time, and it will opened up and I did manage to back up and sync the iphone 6+ & computer.  But it will not do it again.  I have the latest ITunes and have done a restart.  Any help out there???  Thanks

There might be reasons to use both methods:
Use iCloud and iTunes Backup together
For an extra level of backup for your data, you can use iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup together.
Using iCloud Backup doesn't disable iTunes Backup completely; it just turns off Automatic Backups via iTunes. You can trigger a manual iTunes Backup whenever you want to create a new one.
If you're using iCloud and iTunes Backup together and you want to speed up your iCloud Backup and restore, you can save iCloud storage by turning off iCloud Backup for very large data types. For example, in iOS 8 with iCloud Photo Library beta turned off (or in an earlier version of iOS), if you have a 15 GB photo library on your iPhone, you might not wish to back it up to iCloud because it's already being manually backed up to iTunes.

  • Cant sync iphone 6 plus to itunes, can only restore backup or setup as new

I recently bought a new iphone 6 plus and set it up through itunes by restoring from the backup of my previous iphone.
Since then I have made updates on my new phone (installed some apps, updated IDs and passwords, etc), and most recently let it install the ios 8.1.1 update.
Today when I connected my phone to my PC to sync it with itunes, the only options I am given are for setting up the phone, not syncing it.
Specifically, it gives me 2 choices.  1) Set up as a new Phone, 2) Restore from this backup (the backup from when I already originally set up the new phone).
I do not want to restore the phone in either of these fashions, I only want to do a sync to a) get the updates on my phone backed up into itunes and b) install music from my itunes onto my iphone (which for some reason did not come across in the original setup).
How can I SYNC my phone without simply having to RESTORE it to the state it was some time ago ?
If I am having this problem now, it seems I would be stuck in this situation in the future too.

It's been almost 3 weeks since I posted this. Any suggestions on how to fix ?
