Itunes wants me to install 4.0 OS, but then it doesn't let me?

Okay, so something weird is happening with my iPhone.
I connected it to ITunes today and it said that a new update was available, 4.0, with the download & install, and download only, or cancel buttons. I clicked download and install, and I had to hit agree to installing and downloading the 4.0 update. But then when I tried to install it, halfway through the update an error pops up saying
"This iPhone OS is not backward compatible with iPhone 3GS, 3G, or the original iPhone."
What does this mean??

Because as already provided several times, 4.0 has not been released to the general public.

Since you ask this, you shouldn't want to install the update anyway, so ignore and decline the prompt to update when prompted - it is just a mouse click, nothing that is not "peaceful".
This is what has been released to date regarding the 4.0 update. When 4.0 has been released to the general public, you will not be required to install the update which you shouldn't do until it has been officially released to the general public.

Hi Jeff. I did purchase Premiere Elements 8 from Adobe (download version), but couldn't find the files to download again on the adobe.com website. I did, however carry out another search of files from my old PC and eventually found the files to reinstall on my new PC, using my registered product serial no. Installation has worked. It seems that Adobe has stopped supporting version 8 as I could only find version 9 and later for download from the adobe.com website.

Okay, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Funny, iTunes can be found in a program folder, but it does not show up in the programs list. I tried to look for it using the command prompt ("wmic" --> "product get name") but iTunes is not there either. Doesn't even show up in the registry to try to uninstall.
I just want to "properly" uninstall and reinstall iTunes (plus the other usual suspects, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, & Apple Application Support). If anyone out there has any suggestions, please help! (I'm running Windows Vista -- don't judge/laugh) :-)

Okay, feeling like an idiot, but will share so others don't have to. I rebooted my computer and that enabled iTunes to reappear in the programs list. Don't appear to be having the same problems as before (no error messages now). Problem solved!

It sounds like you would like to erase your MacBook Pro and install a new copy of OS X, but the Mac does not boot to OS X Recovery when you hold the Command + R keys during startup.
If your Mac came with OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) or earlier, I recommend referring to the steps in this article:

For a newer Mac (OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite), try reinstalling OS X by using Internet Recovery, as described in the "OS X Internet Recovery" section on this page:

Re-downloading of films is currently only available in the US (due to film studio restrictions), and not all films can be re-downloaded there as not all film studios are allowing it. Have you not got a copy of them on your computer and/or on a backup ? If not then you can try contacting Apple, but they are under no obligation to let you re-download them : http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/contact/

thought that it was possible to have the same iTunes library on any machine that was authorised, a kind of cloud-iTunes I guess.

What operating system are you using, and what version? You may be running into a compatibility issue between your older version of Acrobat and the OS that you're running.
Please let us know a bit more about your setup, so we can get to the bottom of this printing issue.

I have the same issue with pages/keynote and numbers (iWorks). Came preinstalled when I bought the macbook air back in 2010 (Out of warranty). It crashed a couple of months ago so I took it to Apple but when I got it back the iWorks was no longer there. I cannot go back to Apple for a few months as there is no Apple store where I am currently.

ITunes 6.0.1.3 install seems to finish, but then dies

Alrighty. So I'm a tech by trade in Austin, Texas. I've seen plenty of iTunes installs, and itunes install problems, but this is the first to stump me. My little brother's computer was running itunes 4.7 just fine. However, since version 5 i have been having this issue.
When I use the installer for itunes, it gets to the very end where it says registering product, publishing,etc...and then the installer flat disappears. The iTunes icon at the same time disappears from the desktop, and all files in the /program files/itunes/ folder also vanish.
Odd.
So i did an extensive removal of all things itunes and quicktime from this computer. Files, registry, and everything. I got it all out of there. The in used windows update to install microsoft installer 3.1. After I restart I then downloaded and attempted to install itunes again.
Same thing...every single time.
I'm quite lost as to what the issue is here. Looking at the application logs in the control panel I can see two messages generated by this installer. The first reports a successful installation. But then the one right after it says itunes installation failed.
Anybody? This is insane.

Itunes says it is installed successfully on computer, but there is no itunes on computer.

Okay so I decided to download the latest itunes (10.5 I think). My computer is a Dell equipped with Windows XP. First, I had the issue of "Error 127". Looked it up on this forum and was told to uninstall itunes and anything Apple related on my computer. So once that was done, I downloaded Itunes again and installed it. I thought something was off when it installed way too quickly and this was confirmed when it said it installed successfully, but then there was no shortcut nor could I find itunes or any affiliated programs in the Start menu. So first I tried to restart my computer to see if everything would be there and it wasnt. I have never had this problem before with Itunes. As of know I am really disappointed with Itunes. I am begging for someone to help me with this. I have a new ipod and now I can't even use it.

Go to add and remove programs (control panel) and make sure you remove itunes and quicktime.Make sure your restart computer and that you don't have itunes nor quicktime installed anymore. Then, try to install any other or newer version of itunes and that should do. It happened to me too.

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.
If they no longer stock the very old Panther OS, try eBay but make sure they are retail disks, not some machine-specific update.

My Itunes program will open up....but then close down after 20 secs or so.....very frustrating...

I recently did a major backup from Time Machine. When I now use my I tunes program...it will open and run for about 20 secs, but then will crash and stop. I have recently been playing with Sportify program so I am wondering if that may have an influence on this continuing crashing problem. I believe if I do a safe reboot...(holding down the shift key on startup) the I tunes program will run fine. I am running Itunes 10.53 and system 10.6.8.

Repaired permissions with Disk Utility?
Try starting iTunes with the option key held down and have it create a new library as a test. Try moving the Genius file in your user library to another folder and start from your normal library (hold down option key, guide to your usual library). See also below about Genius issues. Try starting iTunes with the shift key (command+option on some versions) held down which disables third party plugins. If it runs under these conditions then you probably have a conflict. iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
There are various iTunes preferences files that can be isolated to test if they are creating the problem.
