ITunes wants me to set up or restore my iPod Touch again-or eject it!

I bought this iPod Touch only two months ago. And since this is my second iPod (the first was a 5 gen that I had had for a couple years), I only did the initial iTunes 8 update I had to do when I bought it. Since it had been working fine, I didn't do any subsequent update(s). My motto is if it ain't broke...Anyhow, I don't normally do updates unless there is a really big gain I want. However, as of yesterday whenever I tried to sync it, iTunes wanted me to set up my iPod touch as a new iPod or restore it. Although it recognized the iPod's name, it wouldn't list any of the other information on it (playlists, etc.). The only other option I had was to eject it. I didn't understand why with no changes to my iPod or iTunes I would have to set it up again or restore it all of a sudden. When I called apple support, I was told that, "there was a problem that has been fixed and now in order for it to stay fixed, you have to restore it one more time." The lady that told me this got this from a product specialist. So I asked her what was the problem? Was it with iTunes or my iPod? How did it get fixed? She couldn't answer these questions but said that something kept updating and since it has been fixed but sees certain issues on the iPod, it wants to restore it so I had no choice but to restore it. Okay. I never updated iTunes 8 since the first time I downloaded it in September. So, why is it updating itself anyway??? Or is it something else that is updating itself? What's updating when I haven't done anything at all? I don't get it. I asked her if I could speak to the specialist myself because I'd like to be able prevent this from happening again (and to just have a basic understanding of what happened). She said I could and put me on hold and nobody ever picked up. I called back and a very nice guy answered that said that these things just happen sometimes (like once a year). I'm not really angry with them. They didn't make the things. I just want to know why it happened. Does anyone out there have an explanation? Have you had this experience?
Okay. This might be a better area to post this so...

I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes it says i have to restore my iopd touch to factory settings and will loose my files. I have a few films on there and they show up on my purchases. If i restore, will i be able to get my films back ? as at the moment my ipod wont work now untill i restore anyway.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

  • ITunes error 13/14/1604, Can not restore my iPod Touch

    Hello,
My iPod Touch crashed when using a app, so I did a hard reset.
After that it displayed the "Connect to iTunes thing"
    The problems started that
So I connected it to iTunes, and it said that it couldn't make a connection because of my password.
There was no way to enter the password though, because of the connect to itunes picture.
I've put my iPod in DFU mode, and then tried to restore.
It gave a unknown error (14)
I asked on some forums and they gave me some tips, I tried them, got a 1604 error, tried to restore again, got a 13 error.
Now I keep getting an 14 error
I have no idea what to do now, I do not have any warrenty, since the water indicator is not the color it should be.
But that happened 4 months ago, and all the time it worked perfect
Can someone please help me out

Ok. I have spent the last 8 hours researching this problem and have the absolute 110% answer to everyone's problem with this issue.
Error 13 and 14 : Are checksum problems with the firmware image that is in the update package.
The update package is a .ipsw (IPod or IPhone SoftWare). This file is actually just a .zip renamed .ipsw.
The error is caused by a failure to download a crc-free version of the file. Not really sure why there are so many crc problems with the iphone updates, but Apple does not check the integrity of the update package before wiping your current version of IPhone software and that is why all IPhones that start an update with a bad update package end up in recovery mode. These errors are NOT related to the iTunes installation, antivirus software, or firewalls.
Recommendation : use a program like "Object Fix" (Freeware) to verify the integrity of the file prior to commencing with any new updates. You will have to keep trying to download it until you get a error free file. Once you have a CRC error free file this problem will go away. (I thought TCP/IP helped get rid of CRC errors.)
I had another problem and that was...
Error 1603 and 1604 : These are USB driver connectivity problems.
Recommendation : FULLY uninstall and re-install itunes software as stated in the Apple support documentation. Be sure to reboot between each step and these problems should clear themselves up. In addition, firewalls and anti-virus software may cause these errors as well.
Finally, shame on apple for not properly documenting their software so that end users do not have to decrypt their error messages with no true support to solve the issues. These are problems that enough people have had that there should be specific documentation on these problems.

  • How can i restore my ipod touch 4g (?) without passcode or itunes

Hi and thank you for helping as this is urgent.
I forgot my passcode for my iPod, and guessed it to many times so it got disabled.
The problem is I don't have iTunes and can't get it on my laptop, but need to restore my device. Right now on the screen it has a photo of a USB cord, an arrow, and the iTunes symbol. So, how can I restore my iPod touch without my passcode or iTunes?
    Thank you SO much.

Right now you can't without a computer. Once you get to a computer you can restore it using DFU mode.

    Welcome to the discussions,
are you using the same iTunes account? If no, did you authorize iTunes with his account info again before you connected his phone?
To keep your accounts separate on one PC, create a new windows user, log in, disable autosync in iTunes, set up the second account and back up manually by right clicking on the device in the device list and choosing "backup". This will save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer. Music, unless bought in iTunes and transferred with your purchases, is not part of the backup. But you can share music between different accounts on one computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • My husband and I have upgraded our phones (iPhone 4s and iPhone 5) to the iPhone 5s.  We have given 2 of our kids the "old" phones and want to set them up as an iPod touch.  Both kids have email and need to be able to text (iMessage).

My husband and I have upgraded our phones (iPhone 4s and iPhone 5) to the iPhone 5s.  We have given 2 of our kids the "old" phones and want to set them up as an iPod touch.  Both kids have email and need to be able to text (iMessage).
I have read multiple posts on how to do this and I am still confused.
    Apple ID/ICoud:
We want to be able to monitor what they do, but do not want their devices linked to our emails/contacts/etc...  Each kid has their own email account.  So, from what I have read the best way to do this is to use our family Apple ID, but set them up with a separate iCloud account?  Is this correct?
    Reset/Restore/DFU:
To start fresh we have done multiple factory resets.  I did one that someone said was a DFU and a plan ol' factory reset, etc...  Not sure the difference.  However, when I do that I get the "hello" screen and am able to start setting the phone up anew.  However, when I go to set the phone up as an iPod I end with the same result.
So, here is what I am doing (tell me what I am doing wrong):
    Hello Screen
Asks me to select language and selecting:  English
Select Your Country or Region:  United States
Choose a Wi-Fi Network:  select my home wi-fi network
Enter password:  entered my home wi-fi network password
Activiate iPhone - wants me to enter Apple ID and Passwordsays that this iphone is currently linked to an Apple ID (k*******@gmail.com).  Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPhone.
Location Services - I have enabled location services
    Set Up iPhone
    Set Up as New iPhone
    Apple ID
Options are to sign in with your Apple ID or Create a Free Apple ID
Or I could "skip this step"
I signed in with my Apple ID
    Terms and Conditions - Agree
iCloud - I can select either to use iCloud or Don't Use iCloud - I selected use iCloud
Find My iPhone - I can select either to use find my iPhone or to not - I selected use find my iphone
Once I do this it says iMessage and FaceTime and shows the following:
    my email
my other child's cell phone number
and my husband's work phone number
This is where things do not make sense.  I only want the phone set up with the current child's email address.  Where did I go wrong?

There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.  To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPod.
Take special note of the article about using recovery mode. Many times, that is the only way to bypass the pass code and restore the device.
