ITunes wants to download new iOS update even though iPhone has already updated.

I updated my iPhone 5 to 7.1.2 through my phone settings. I connect it to iTunes so I can restore my phone because I like doing so to get a little bit of storage space back every now and then. Once I click Restore, it says iTunes wants to download the 7.1.2 update. Now my question is why does it want to download it when it says that my phone is already updated to 7.1.2. This is very tedious because the download shows up to at least five hours. My iTunes is updated to most recent one as well. I just want to be able to restore my phone without having to download this 7.1.2 update even though my phone is already at 7.1.2. Any help would be appreciated and thank you.

I've managed to log in - reset everything to English - and run a backup - which of course took ten minutes and then gave me an error -1 code at the end.
All of my apps seem to be sitting on my imac itunes but they are not sitting on my ipad anymore.
Going to try to sync one of them over to my ipad but I suspect that all of the content in them is probably gone....

I'm having the same problem. Although iTunes says it is syncing Calendars and Contacts the Calendars are not being synced (I haven't checked Contacts since I don't make lots of changes to them.)
It also does not appear to be backing up to my desktop (at least not each time) - I just did a sync and the backup date is over 30 minutes ago.
This is very worrisome.
(And I am not using iCloud.)

I'm not convinced that starting it before it was downloaded has anything to do with it, you should be able to do that. I'd try restarting the computer and if that doesn't help, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History.

I'm not aware of a way to reset the password for an encrypted backup. If you have forgotten the password for an encrypted backup, your only alternative is to put the phone in recovery mode and restore it as a new device. Your data will be lost.

ITunes wants to download too many apps to my iPhone.

After getting an iPad Air the other day, when I went to back up my iPhone, iTunes keeps trying to download all the big apps that came free with the iPad into the iPhone. I don't want Garage Band, Numbers, iPhoto, etc. on my iPhone. It doesn't have enough memory to hold them all. There must be a way to tell iTunes which apps are for which device.

Well I let them download, then deleted them. We'll see what happens the next time I try to back up the iPhone.

Anyone else having battery life sucked out of their iPhone since downloading new iOS update? I don't use the phone much yet it dies faster now.

The new update is killing my phone faster than before. Is there a way to fix this problem? I have shut off my location setting and lowered the brightness and shut wifi off when not at home.

What do you mean "get your phone back"? What error did you see exactly? Was this error on the phone or the computer? Please provide all of the information about the error. What computer OS are you using?

App Store Says Download LION OS X Even Though I am already running 10.7.3

In the app store under purchases on my MacBook Pro it says that Lion OS X should DOWNLOAD instead of installed. I already have Lion OS X Version 10.7.3 running on my computer. Why won't it say installed?
What should I do? I've re-downloaded it and installed and it still says DOWNLOAD.
I went to do a disk repair and it told me my HD is corrupt and I have an invalid directory item count twice (149 instead of 150) and (34 out of 35), invalid number of file hard links.
I'm not sure what to do. I do have two users on this computer if that helps.

Hello, and welcome to Apple Support Communities!
This just downloads the Installer application. You don't need to have the installer Application on your computer if you have already installed Lion, so you can ignore how it says "download" and delete the Install Mac OS X Lion.app file from /Applications.
It should only show you the download button on a Lion-running Mac if you hold the Option key while clicking Purchases, but I have seen several computers that work normally and exhibit the same behavior as you're experiencing.

Same phone and ios, same problem. Worked just fine for me Sunday, but nothing today, all day. As a workaround I found I can still connect using iTunes on my Macbook Pro, the I synch my iPhone. There are way too many people with the same problem for it to be anything but Apples problem. Hope this helps.

ITunes update dumped library; now re-download of IOS update is going to take even longer?

To put this in a better perpective, I thought I had updated iTunes so I tried to install the new IOS update for iPad earlier (it only took about an hour to download) but it kept giving me an error saying I needed to update itunes in order to install... So, since I thought I already had it installed I uninstalled iTunes (since that's worked for me before) and tried installing it again, but that dumped my library (not a big deal since it's pretty much all on my computer)
The only problem is when I plugged my iPad back in to update again it started re-downloading the IOS file that I already downloaded earlier with hours to go. Do I really have to wait for it again, or is the file I already downloaded still there? (It's okay if it's not, or there's no way to use it... I can wait for the download, I'd just rather not find out I don't have to do this twice)

- secondly i have restarted my phone and restarted itunes many times & i have the latest version of itunes
- restarted everything again. i synced my phone for the fun of syncing hoping that might help although i didnt have anything to sync but anyway now its reduced the time & said "8hours remaining" but in the space of 10minutes went up to "11hours remaining" seriously? please help .

I tried powering down and re-starting the iPhone (as suggested at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275). This seems to have cleared the "...not connected to the Internet" problem, and iOS 6.1 is now in the process of downloading.

I realise there have been a number of threads like this now that I have started looking, the problem is the back-ups i made were saved to a server network which has now also gone down, a case of dreadful luck really. Is there any other way to get the music back?

You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it! Helps to tell them you have an iPad/iPhone & you can't run 10.6.
