ITunes was interrupted whilst restoring... iOS4

I have had a major set of problems with my iPhone 3G upgrade to iOS4 but I left it last night and all appears to be working fine today.
Now however when I plug my iPhone into my MacBook I keep getting the message:
"iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iPhone "XXXXX". Would you like to restore this iPhone again? [Cancel] [Delete Backup] [Continue Restore]"
I keep selecting [Cancel] as it appears to be working.
How can I stop iTunes for displaying this message EVERYTIME I connect my iPhone?

Having the exact same issues here. I'm hesitant to just hit the delete backup button because I fear it may delete everything on my phone again. I am using the most current version of iTunes with a 3G 16 gig iPhone.
I had many problems updating to iOS4, but after nearly a day of re-updating it finally went through, but wiped my iPhone clean. I hit the restore from backup button and everything seemed to restore normally but I had a message on my computer that iTunes was unable to restore the iPhone. Now, every time I plug my iPhone in I get the message "iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of iPhone". If I hit cancel, I seem to be able to sync my iPhone just fine, but I get this message every time I plug the iPhone in and I can't seem to back it up.
This seems to be a problem affecting many of us 3G users. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • ITunes was interrupted while restoring... iOS4.2.1

I have had a set of problems with my iPhone 3G upgrading to iOS4.2.1 but now all appears to be working fine today.
Now however when I plug my iPhone into my iMac I keep getting the message:
"iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iPhone "XXXXX". Would you like to restore this iPhone again? Cancel Delete Backup Continue Restore"
I keep selecting Cancel as it appears to be working.
How can I stop iTunes for displaying this message EVERYTIME I connect my iPhone?

thanks nick101 - there doesn't appear to be any antivirus programs running.
Tried a third MacBook, which recognized there was an upgrade for the iPhone to 4.2, downloaded it and then when appearing to be done went right back into the Restore loop - back to brick one..
    Any other ideas?
    thanks

  • Everytime I connect to iTunes the message ' iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iPhone. would you like to restore the phone again now? With the options cancel, continue restore and delete back-up??

I upgraded to iOS 5 on my 3GS without any issues but now everytime I connect to iTunes the message ' iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iPhone. would you like to restore the phone again now? with the options of cancel, continue restore and delete back-up. what happens if i click delete back up?

I'm not getting the message anymore!
    What I did:
1.- Went to preferences in itunes/ Devices --> erased the corrupted backup (there were two backups)
    2.- Upgraded to iOS 5.0.1
    Done!
PS: Maybe upgrading solves the problem without erasing the corrupted backup

  • IOS 5 seems to work, but when I connect the ipad to my macbook, i get the message that itunes was interrupted when restoring. I try to restore again and I get the message "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-50)." What should I do?

iOS 5 seems to work on my ipad, but apparently something went wrong when restoring. I lost music and movies, and when I connect the ipad to my macbook, I get the message that itunes was interrupted when restoring. I try to restore again and I get the message "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-50)." What happened and what should I do?

I have had the same issue since day 1 of the ios5 installation.  I always hit "Cancel" and then the iPad eventually shows up again in iTunes.  Then a few hours later, I get the same message again.  Annoying, but I've not found a way around it.

  • My Digital Copy download (of the Lord of the Rings) on iTunes was interrupted and now will not re-download. How do I download my movie, or who do I contact to help me fix this issue?

I downloaded a digital copy of the Lord of the Rings' and during the downland, iTunes quit. When I restarted iTunes the download was gone; when I tried to reenter the digital copy redemption code it said it has already been used. How do I get my digital copy of LotR back? I lost all three movies in the series (as they were downloading simultaneously) and I would really love to have them on my Mac.

  • After iPad ios 5 upgrade, itunes "interrupted while restoring" restore gets error -50. iPad starts in 'configure' mode - can I configure as 'New iPad' and then restore?

After iPad ios 5 upgrade on Win7 64bit pc (x386 iTunes), iTunes gave me error "iTunes was interrupted while restoring, restore again now?" I try to restore but iTunes immediately gives error -50. Apple website says -50 is a timeout, but I have tried all fixes: changed usb ports, new cable, reset iPad, restart pc, remove sim... no good.
iPad starts in 'configure' mode, but won't restore from any of the several iTunes backups I have. Ready to giveup on 'restore'! iPad is sync'ed in iTunes, connects and syncs ok, so I don't want to lose that info.
Can someone from Apple advise - can I 'configure' as 'New iPad' and then restore or sync to recover my Apps and data etc? OR if I 'Restore' from iTunes 'Summary' tab, will I still be able to Sync to restore the iPad Apps and data?
I'm seeing a lot of frustrated Apple users online, hoping that a fix for this problem will help a few of us!! An iOS upgrade should not cause this much pain and wasted effort.

You might already have tried all of these, but just in case:
    1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes.
    2. If you're on a Windows PC, consider uninstalling iTunes and Quicktime, restarting the PC, then reinstalling. This sometimes fixes oddities.
    3. Make sure you have no firewall or anti-virus running/active.
    4. Try different USB cable; if you're using a cable via a hub, try connecting without the hub. On desktop PCs, the direct (non-internal-hub) USB sockets are usually at the back.
    5. If yoiu haven't already done so, download the iOS5 update via the direct links I posted above
    6. If using Update doesn't work, use Restore. Option-click (Mac) or Shift-Click (Windows) the Restore button in itunes.
    7. Before you to the Restore, right-lick the entry for your device in iTunes and choose Backup from the drop-down menu. You may need this backup later.
If you're srtuck in recovery mode:
    - There are some tips here for Windows users
    http://thehowto.wikidot.com/ipad-stuck-recovery-mode
    - If your device is stuck in Recovery mode, you can try putting it into DFU mode, from which iTunes should be able to Restore, as above. Details here:

  • Error 37 itunes restore ios4

I upgraded this morning to iOS4.2 my 3GS iPhone (ios 3) with the last version of itunes on my MacBookPro. After the download, the OS started installing on my device and right before the end it popped up error 37 and it said there was an error and I had to restore. After 5 restores it always stops with that message. My iPhone doesn't even turn on now,it stays on DFU mode.
I have tried with an other computer (PC windows vista), with a different version of itunes, all USB slot on my computer, the firewall is turned off...
I don't know what to do...

SAME problem just this afternoon, however, I have an iPhone 3G. I’m sure the steps to follow are similar. After working on this for 6hrs & 10min, this is the solution that worked for me:
(I am using a MacBookPro5,3 OSX 10.6.6, but I know Win, too, so will try my best to give solutions)
MY PROBLEM: This morning I updated my firmware. I can’t tell you which version it was, but I sync/update about every other day so it was the most current. This afternoon, all of a sudden, I couldn’t see the unlock slider-screen on my phone. I knew for certain that my battery was fully charged, but I couldn’t even press the power & home buttons for a few seconds to be able to get the Apple icon.
When I plugged it into iTunes, it only recognized it as “iPhone” and not by ‘Amy’, which is what I named my phone. iTunes also popped up with a ‘iTunes has discovered an iPhone in recovery mode….’ window.
I hit ‘RESTORE’ and it went thru the motions, but NOTHING. I got ‘Error 37’ and could not restore.
So, after 6-½ hours, this is what I did:
--First, I made sure iTunes was up-to-date, which it was not. Update iTunes.
—COMPLETELY disabled my anitivirus, etc. software.
—You’re going to have to delete your most recent backup (unfortunately) but better than completely losing use of the peripheral all together, right? Use iTunes to do this.
—Create a brand new user acct. on your Mac/Win and make sure the new user acct. has admin rights.
—DISCONNECT your iphone/iPad from the USB and restart your computer & login as the new admin user.
—(MAKE SURE YOUR iPHONE/iPAD IS STILL DISCONNECTED) Open iTunes and MAKE SURE it’s the most current version. If not, download update, restart your computer and open iTunes back up.
—With your cable connected to the USB *first* & making sure iTunes is open already, connect your iPhone/iPad. You should get the generic ‘iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode…’ pop-up window. Click “OK”.
—You might get a pop-up with an option to ‘Set up as a new device’. If you do, click OK and continue and let it run.
—Log back in to your regular user account that you use to to sync, etc.
—Open iTunes. It should recognize your phone/pad as a generic device. Make sure you are signed into the Store.
—On the Summary page, you should see an option to ‘Restore’. Click that and select your most recent back-up before the one you just deleted. Let it run…..it’s going to take quite a while…….
*NEVER EVER EVER let your computer go into hibernation/sleep mode during this time and DO NOT disconnect even if Jesus Christ Himself is calling your cell!
If you need detailed instructions on how to do all of this stuff, pls feel free to email me and I’ll type it all out: [email protected]. It might take me a couple days to get back to you, but I promise I’ll do it….I’ve lost going on 7 hours of time here, so I’m a little backed up. Apple is no help. Let me know which OS you’re using, too.
    GOOD LUCK.

  • The installation was interrupted message after iTunes upgrade

I would appreciate help with my problem. I'd like to use iTunes but it doesn't work.
Description of the problem: I was happily using iTunes for more than a year. I received a notice that a new version was available and I upgraded. When the installation was complete I received the following message:
"The installation was interrupted before iTunes could be completely installed."
iTunes is not listed in the Programs menu and there are no files at c:\program files\itunes (itunes folder is not there).
After subsequent downloads and installs, I get the same error. When I do the iTunes standard install, QuickTime is
available and works well. I went back to the previous version, but it continued to give me the same error. I found very old versions of iTunes on the web and they too had the same problem.
During the install the iTunes icon briefly appears on my desktop and then disappears. The message box indicating that the installation was interrupted occurs right after that.
I've tried to describe the problem in quite a bit of detail below to help avoid suggested fixes that have been tried and failed.
    1. I have followed the steps in the KB article. Please see the details of that work below.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
    2. I have Administrator access. I have verified that I'm part of both the Adminstrators and SERVICE groups under Impersonate a client after authentication. This process is found in the following doc:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300361
    3. Windows is fully updated through the Windows Update utility. See Windows version info below.
    4. I can install any other application. I use this computer for work and I can install and uninstall any other application
I try. No other known errors or problems. I've installed other applications that use Microsoft Installer and InstallShield installers without problems.
    5. I tried the Quicktime standalone install and I received the notice that "The installation was interrupted..." Quicktime is now not found on the machine and there is no Quicktime files in the Program Files. During the middle of the installation, I received the following error. Error during QuickTime Standalone (7.1.0.210) install:
Error 1905.Module c:\program files\QuickTime\qtuiPanelControl.dll failed to unregister. HRESULT -2147220472 Contact your support personnel.
When I attempt to install iTunes from the standard install, Quicktime installs properly and works. It only fails during the standalone install.
    6. No strange characters in the folder. There is no itunes folder so it contains no folder. The download exe is on my desktop.
    7. Temp Folder emptied and machine restarted (many times)
    8. Uninstall older versions - They are not listed as installed so there is nothing to uninstall. The Windows Clean Up utility does not list them so I can't use that tool to remove them. It appears that iTunes is cleaning itself up when the installation fails so there are no files. There is no iTunes folder at c:\program files\.
    9. iPodService alert is not there so I don't need to delete it.
    10. Redownload software - It has been downloaded many times. Each time I'm careful to permanently delete the previous install exe so it is redownloaded.
    11. AntiVirus software has been disabled. I'm using McAfee VS Enterprise 8.0.0. I have also checked the AV logs to see if it has blocked an install or other event around that time - there is nothing in the AV logs to show any blocked or prevented activity. No activity at all because the software is disabled.
    12. Registry - A search of "itunes" in the Registry Editor finds a lot of references. Too many to list, but most are in keys that apply to file types.
    13. I have downloaded and attempted to install the Windows Installer 3.0 package from the following URL:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5FBC5470-B259-4733-A914 -A956122E08E8&displaylang=en&Hash=9PV3FS4
I'm told by a box during the install that the version I have installed is newer than the one on the website and there is no need to install it.
    14. The version of iTunes that I'm trying to install right now is 6.0.4.2. I've had this problem for at least three months so I've been trying many versions before its release.
    15. Other than the mentioned AV program, I don't have a third-party firewall, anti-spyware or monitoring program installed.
    System:
    IBM ThinkPad T42
    Windows XP Pro
    1 GB RAM
    McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Version: 5.1.2600
    Service Pack: 2.0
    Location: C:\WINDOWS
    Hot Fix: KB913446
    IBM T42   Windows XP Pro

It is a miracle - After about 9 months without itunes, the new release installed on my machine today and appears to be working.
7.0.0.70 is the verion I just installed.
Another note to add to this now resolved issue. I bought an AirPort Express and I was not able to install the Admin software on the CD. I received the same error as I received with iTunes and Quicktime. This leads me to believe that this problem is in the registry or some other installer issue that is specific to Apple installations. I will have to go home and try to re-install that software. Maybe the new iTunes version cleared up the problem.
