Itunes, why fix something that isn't broke?

I use Itunes with my Ipod classic mainly for podcasts and audiobooks. I put the audiobook disks in Itunes just fine but what i can no longer do is join the tracks. By not joining the tracks i get around 20 files for each CD and they end up all over ipod and impossible to listen to the book. I used the help section but it did not lead me to the 'join tracks' in fact the join tracks link just was not there nor the icon that the section implied. please please please give me my 'join tracks' back

Have you hired all of the lame staff at Microsoft? One of these days you nerds will find out that life is too short to have to worry about learning every task anew each morning. The automobile industry, as bad as it is, has never done anything as stupid as you do gooders! Who would imagine walking out to their car one morning to find the steering wheel had been moved to the back seat. Who could imagine calling GM or Ford and being told that the car you bought to transport 6 people can now only transport 4, because they decided to do away with half of the front seat to improve visibility for the driver who must now sit in the back seat. You may think this is a stupid analogy, but I ask you "Why is any analogy necessary?". You have not justified your sweeping changes like "moving the tabs from the bottom to the top" and then requiring one to download another program to "FIX" this - good God man - THINK! Who gives you permission to do this? Is it the people you serve? I DON'T THINK SO !

HT4623 Is there any way to get iOS 7 off my iPad? It is MUCH slower and less responsive than it was! Why do you people always have to fix something that isn't broken?

Is anyone else experiencing sluggishness and the need to practically pound the screen to get a response from the keyboard?

While you are correct that cover flow appears to have been dropped, you can still see the artwork in large form, by clicking on the thumbnail that you mention:

Why "fix" things that are not broken?

I have been using Macs since day one and lots of Windows machines as well. And from day one it has always been the case that when you start up your browser it opens with your Homepage. Now, after all these years some genius at Apple has decided that should change. I am running Safari 5.1 under Snow Lepoard and when I start up Safari it will only come up in the Homepage IF I set "Open new windows with <homepage>". Fine, but that means that if I want to open a subsequent page it is always the Homepage and not, say, the same page. This did not used to be the case. The "Open new windows with" option only applied to new windows that were opened after Safari was already on some page, not at start up. This all gets even more complicated in Lion with the new Respond option in the System Preferences. Apple has developed this pattern lately of messing with these little things that work perfectly well. Then when they do not work as expected any more it causes folks a huge amount of frustration and negative energy. That is what WINDOWS is famous for and one of the biggest reasons we are all APPLE fans in the first place. PLEASE stop trying to turn into Microsoft!

I currently left all Google services I used, Gmail, Chrome, etc.. because of the recent selling info to the gov and what not and although it may or may not be true I am being safe and switched to Firefox and a different email provider. Anyway so far I like Firefox I am using DuckDuckGo as my current default search and I would like to use it as my search engine when I type in a search in the address bar, by default it's Google how do I change it to a search provider I want to like DuckDuckGo?

**Edited** with line not working properly eventually sorted by engineer visit. I have now had a bill from BT trying to charge me £129 for engineer home improvement. If this had been done properly in the first place when the original BT engineer installed everything I wouldnt have had to have someone else look at it in the first place. Furthermore if this money comes out of my account I could go overdrawn. I have absolutely no intention whatsoever of paying for this as not my fault but BTs fault. Also this charge was never discussed per previous incident. I assume this has come from a seperate department or has been triggered automatically as the mods here are always extremely helpful and sort issues out very efficiently. please can you therefore get this rectified for me asap. thank you.

Yes, you can attach a listener to anything, all that is required is an interface implemented by the object being observed (Observable) that defines methods to add listeners, remove listeners and notify listeners, an interface implemented by the listener (Observer) that defines a method to receive the notifications. I use this pattern all the time for things that have no relation to Swing, or AWT.
This pattern is formally known as the Observer Pattern and was described by the GoF several years before the advent of Java.

Hey Ryan, When you looked at Get Info as Illaass instructed did you compare all the info listed in iTunes Get Info on the computer's copy? When you looked at the song(s) that are separated, do they list anything different like a featured artist? Or a different composer / song writer? Sometimes that will trick the the software into thinking it is 2 different albums. Make the info about the album and artist match, then sync to your iPod. The songs should go back where they belong on your iPod. Good luck. Cheers.

What happens when you try to reset it? Have you gone to Settings/General/Reset on the phone and tapped Erase all content and settings?

HT4859 My ipod has been disabled and I don't know how. And now it says to connect to Itunes and that isn't even letting me. So, how can I fix my disabled ipod if it wont connect to itunes and/or the internet?

Okay so I let my baby sister play with my Ipod and then whenever I came back home the next day the Ipod says "Ipod is disabled" "connect to itunes". But whenever I try to connect it to itunes it says there is an error and wont connect it. So therefore I cannot connect it to itunes to fix the Ipod.

Your sitter must have tried logging into the device using the wrong passcode. Do it too many times and the device becomes disabled.

You may need to do this more than once.

I have music on iPod touch that isn't listed in iTunes, can't seem to "manage" the content

Sheesh. I know it's supposed to be simple & intuitive, but I can't quite figure some things out. Now, I may have reloaded iTunes since I had to rebuild my PC. Fortunately, my library of music - mainly from CDs - was saved on a backup.
1. I have some music that isn't quite listed in iTunes
Creedence Clearwater Revival album Chronicle Volume 1 also shows up as Chronicle, Vol.1 on the iPod
but it shows up only as Chronicle, Vol. 1 in my Music Library. How did it duplicate itself and how do I get rid of the duplicates?
note that these duplicates do not appear in iTunes, so clicking on Display Duplicates does not find them.
2. I cannot remove the rogue versions of songs either directly from the iPod or from iTunes
3. I cannot adjust the columns or sort order when viewing my iPod's Music in iTunes
4. Sync is not checked for any of the categories in iTunes
if I check the Sync box for music, it states it will wipe out my music and replace it with my library. My whole library won't fit on my 8 GB iPod. How do I pick and choose what goes to the iPod. Do I really need to wipe out the contents of my iPod first?
5. Last question - Can I assign the album art that was ripped from my CDs to the albums/songs imported from My Music in Windows to iTunes?
So I'm a bit frustrated but very open to solutions. My iPod touch is maxed out and I want to adjust what content - pictures, apps, music & playlists only - gets loaded on the iPod.

- From your description you did something to iTunes on the computer such that the iPod sees ythe iTunes library as a new library. That is why you are getting the message about erasing when you try to sync. Yu can, as you are doing, managing music with the computer since you can do that among different conputer. See:

- If all music, apps, sysnced photos are on the computer you need to:
--- Make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecing Backup and then restore the iPod from that backup.
- You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- You can transfer non-iTunes purchaed music by using one of the third-party programs discussed here. Some of those may also do synced photos.
