ITunes wifi sync doesn't work since moving Mac to a new Airport

Hi,
I recently moved my Mac mini which acts as an iTunes 'server' for all the other devices/computers that I have at home from being Ethernet connected to the airport base station in the middle of my network (the Time Capsule described below) to the Airport Extreme at the end of my network. Since moving this, all my devices continue to show in iTunes but if I try and initiate a wifi sync it spends 10 to 20 seconds trying to find the device and then fails (the device then shows "Sync will restart when mini becomes available" or similar). If I completely reboot all my airport base stations it seems to start working for a while. For info, I have tried disabling the Mac mini firewall but it has no impact. Sync works perfectly with a cable and used to work pretty well (but not 100% of the time) before I moved the Mac mini.
Any help or ideas would be really appreciated, my network layout is described below:
My network cosiest of a Sky TV broadband ADSL model & wifi router which provides internet and DHCP using 802.11b/g.
Connected to that via a long Ethernet cable I have a latest gen. Airport Express in a different part of the house creating a 2.4Ghz 802.11n only network with 'Allow this network to be extended' checked.
I then have a 1st gen. Time Capsule extending that network and an Airport Extreme (not the latest version)  which extends the network further. If I look at the iPad Airport Utility app I see this network as a long, straight line where each extends the previous.
I have all the Apple Airport devices in 'Bridge mode' so that the Sky device is providing DHCP for the entire network.
I have an old-ish Mac Mini (Intel single core) running a fully updated version of snow leopard (can't update to Lion on a single core)  with the latest version of iTunes. I have several iOS 5 devices (fully updated).
Regards,
Phillip.

Just noticed a typo: I moved FROM plugged into the middle of the network to the END of the network and then plugged into that base stations ethernet.

  • IPhone/iTunes Wifi sync doesn't work

    Hi guys,
I don't even have hope to solve this problem anymore but I guess I should post this anyway and show apple the crap software they're giving us.
I'm on Lion 10.7.4 (iTunes 10.6.1) and, after upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1, my Wifi sync with iTunes stopped working. Out of nowhere. Looking for an answer I started digging on apple foruns and found out there are dozens of threads discussing the problem and literally hundreds of possible solutions. I've tried the following:
    - Restart iTunes and iPhone (full power cycle).
    - Check the "Sync over Wifi" option on iTunes when iPhone is connected using cable
    - Uncheck the "Block iPhone, iPod and iPad from automatically sync" on iTunes > preferences > devices.
    - Restart Router
    - Reinstalling iTunes
    - Restore iPhone
    - Move to trash "com.apple.iTunes" and "MobileDevices.framework" files. Restart Mac after.
    - Make Airport on Mac and iPhone forget the saved networks and reconfig them
    - Open ports on router 123 (all), 3689 (TCP) and 5353 (UDP)
    - Disable and enable uPnP on router
    - Install Remote app
    - Use "Release Liase" option on iPhone under Settings > General > Network > Wifi > Blue Arrow
NONE solved it. I gave up. Apple *****.
    Interesting behaviours:
    - Remote app doesn't work at all. I can't use it under Home Sharing or that code thing. My phone and Mac simple can't see each other anymore.
    - iPhone conects fine using cable. Everything is working and, when I pull out the cable, iPhone vanish from the list. Even with the Wifi option enabled.
So, if any of you can solve it, you will have a place in heaven. And in Apple developing team, probably.
    Thank you!

    Hi guys,
As I suspected, none of the previous solutions worked. I strongly believe this is some crap in iOS 5.1.1 OR iTunes 10.6.1. More precisely: this is APPLE fault, not something we did wrong or didn't do.
My Wifi sync worked great before this updates (Lion 10.7.2 and iOS 5.0). I can't isolate the problem because I did both updates in less than 24h from one another. Now I'm back to cable and I think I'll still be until Mountain Lion is out.
@rodrigonewtonI sent apple my feedback. Basically everything I wrote here. And I can't connect bluetooth either. Luckily I barely use bluetooth on my Mac.
@ou812ManySushi Lucky you! I'd already tried this without success. What is your iTunes and iOS?
@joejohns90 Doesn't work here, the option is ALWAYS greyed, waiting for my Mac to do something. The only way the "sync over Wifi" button work is pluging the cable. Ironic, isn't it?
Anyway, thanks for the feedbacks guys!

  • Since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1 I'm having compatibility issues with my speakers and my iTunes wifi sync isn't working. Anyone else having the same problems?

Since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1 I'm having compatibility issues with my speakers / docking station and my iTunes wifi sync isn't working. Anyone else having the same problems? Both worked fine until the update...

Okay. I got it working again by setting it up as a new phone instead of just syncing. Then I backed up. All is good today.

  • Itunes wifi synce won't work on windows 7, why?

I've tried everything to get itunes wifi synce to work on windows 7. But I don't seem to be getting it. It's not working.
I'm running Ios 5.1.1 and the latest itunes 10.6.3. Any solution about getting itunes wifi synce to work.
I'm open for any solution and will try al l of them.

I've been dealing with this issue for quite sometime now, keep going back to the same suggestions over and over from here and other sources. The common thing I see here is having the bonjour services restarted to get things working correctly. Being on windows 7 64x I didn't have a problem before. Something changed though. Today I though of "hey what about running as admin" since it seems some programs require admin running status to work properly. So in Task Manager under the Processes, (have show processes from all users checked) Anything that has to do with iTunes/Apple/Mobile/etc. I right clicked> Properties>Compatibility>Run as Admin.
So far this has solved my issue. Hope this helps others.

  • Itunes wifi sync does not work after upgrade to OS X Yosemite

    Hi,
After upgrade to OS X Yosemite itunes wifi sync with my ipad and iphone stopped working. After attaching the iphone and ipad with a cable, I could sync, but as soon as the cable was removed, the ipad and iphone disappeared again from itunes. And wifi did still nok work.

Apparently something is not being saved somewhere and this technique forces the save.  Below is a C&P from another poster describing the technique on a different thread.  It's been working for him for some fifteen hours.  I tried it and it's been working but it's been only ten minutes.  My gut feel is that quitting and relaunching iTunes are critical steps.
With the device connected via cable, click on its icon
    Uncheck WiFi syncing
    Click Apply
    Quit iTunes
    Launch iTunes
    Check WiFi syncing
    Click Apply

  • Wifi sync will not work since 5.0.1 update

since i did the IOS 5.0.1 update, itunes now will not wifi sync on my mac.
I've restored, ive reinstalled the IPSW manually...ive ticked and unticked sync in the options, ive deleted the backup file and set up as a new phone...
    ive ran out of ideas...
PS, this seem to only be an issue with macOSx as wifi sync works on a PC with this restore...
Theres no new software installed and seems to be a mac vs iphone issue as my other half also has the same issue now with the mac.
Any ideas or is it a trip to the apple geeks?
    thanks in advance
    zesty2k

Same problem here with iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
Apple have just released iTunes 10.5.1 which I hoped was a fix but no.
Wired sync still works fine on both devices.
Ran iTunes diagnostics and the sync test caused iTunes to crash on several with both devices so there obviously seems to be a problem with the software.

  • I try everything but the wifi sync doesn't work, please help...

    Hello,
    I tried:
Restore my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1.1)
Check router settings (tried default settings and reset also)
    Check everything in iTunes
    Connect to different wifi
Upgrade my MacBook Air to Mountain Lion (1.0.8.0)
    ....etc.
I have everything latest, I read almost everything about it, tried tweaks, but none of this doesn't work.
When I've got my iPhone connected to Mac through USB with wifi enabled, sync work well...
Everything worked fine all the time and from day to another it doesn't work anymore.
It's a pain in the ***, I have already lost my mind. Nothing work.
I appreciate any help from you guys, thank you very much
    (sorry for english, I'm czech)

I probably do not understand your question. But try this, maybe this is what you want. Try iCloud on your iPhone.
Tap Settings App > Wi-Fi > turn it ON. Then go back to Settings and below General tap > iCloud. Make sure your account is there, turn ON what you like and then at bottom select Storage & Backup. Hopefully this will help you.

  • ITunes Wifi sync has stopped working

iTunes has stopped syncing over wifi with my iPhone 5S and iPad Mini. It's always been a bit flaky, but has recently stopped working completely. iTunes will not see the devices unless I either reboot them, or plug them in with the Thunderbolt cable, deselect and select "sync with this device over wifi" and apply. If I try to use wifi sync, iTunes gives me a "looking for device" message and then drops the connection.
My set up is a Mac Pro running 10.10, hooked up to an Airport Express via Cat 6. Both iOS devices are on iOS 8.
I have tried changing the IPV6 settings on both my machine and my Airport Express, resetting the network settings on both iOS devices, and flushing my machine's DNS cache.
I see the following messages repeated in my system log:

  • Iphone 4 wifi sync doesn't work on iOS 6

Hi, my phone synced without any problem on iOS 5.1.1. Now since I've upgraded, it doesn't want to sync. I found many solutions on apple support, but none seems to work. Any idea how to enable it ?

    Same here!
ibooks is set to sync as well as music/contact/calandars/photos. Everything but books sync.
I tried uninstalling ibooks, and reinstalling. No change.
I deleted all the books from my itunes library and  re added them, no change.
I rebooted my imac, and ipad, tried to sync. no change.

  • Sync doesn't work between my mac and android

    Hi,
I'm using FF 30 on both my mac and android. I had everything working fine on earlier versions of FF, but as I had to change my phone, I reinstalled FF, upgrading to FF30 in the process. Now I want to get my bookmarks etc back on the phone, so I set up an account on the android, connected to it, and connected to it with my mac as well. All the sync options seem to be checked correctly, I get no error message and both devices tell me I'm connected to my account. Still I can't get the bookmarks on the android. Can you please help me out ?
    Cheers

If you open the Sync settings on desktop does the settings say "Pair a Device" below the account info? See attached screen shot.
If so then unlink the device. Restart Firefox and then reconnect the desktop computer to Sync. If not reply and I'll follow up with the Android side.

  • Reset iTunes wifi sync, broken cable

I have an iPhone 5 cable that is now of questionable origin upon closer inspection.
It powers the phone, but can't get the iPhone to show up in iTunes/iPhoto.
Is there a way to reset/setup iTunes wifi sync without using a cable?

No, but a new cable is $19.

  • Internet connection freezes since activation of iTunes wifi-sync

    Hi there!
First off: iTunes wifi-sync is working great!
...but: since i activatet this option, my internet connection (over wifi) freezes after a few minutes. no matter if my iphone is actually syncing or not.
only deactivating the wifi-sync will de-freeze my internet connection.
restarting both, iTunes and MacBook doesn't help.

Just noticed a typo: I moved FROM plugged into the middle of the network to the END of the network and then plugged into that base stations ethernet.

  • ITunes 11.1.5 wifi sync does not work

I have 10 wireless devices and an Apple Mac Mini with Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.5 and alll devices are running iOS 7.1.1.  I noticed the other day that none of my devices have backed-up since late March and none of my devies have connected through wifi.  I have attempted a shutdown, a stop process of the AppleMobileDeviceHelper and restart the iTunes and even did the stop process of AMDH shut-down/restart and then attempted the iTunes wifi sync to no avail.  Anyone have the same problems?
Devices are Airport Extreme Base-station, Airport Extreme (Tower), and Airport Extreme TimeCapsule
Mac Mini (Latest), two MacBook Air (Latest)
    Multiple iPhones from 5s, 5, and 4s
    2 iPad second gen
    2 iPad mini Retina

In case there is any confusion, iTunes did WiFi sync to iOS devices for years.  It was rumored that Apple stopped it but only for a time.  However, iTunes always had a check box for selecting WiFi syncing for the selected device.  If you hook up the device by USB, select it on the left panel and go to the Summary tab, you will see a box "Sync with this iPhone over WiFi".  Some trouble shooters have suggested unchecking, clicking apply, quit iTunes, then restart and recheck.  In the past that would occasionally work for me.  Now it doesn't work at all.
The really odd part.  Often when I quit and restart iTunes (maybe reboot the Mac), the iOS devices will indeed appear in the list (when not connected via USB).  However, selecting them simply brings up a progress indicator that disappears 30secs later and the device name disappears from the list.
Apple, if you can hear us, please FIX THIS!

  • ITunes WiFi Sync works fine for 4 devices, but not for my iPad2

I'm using the latest version of iTunes (11.0.4)  on an iMac with the latest version of Mountain Lion (10.8.4) and multiple iOS devices listed below:
    iPad 1 (iOS 5.1.1)
    New iPad (iOS 6.1.3)
    iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3)
    iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3)
    iPad 2 (iOS 6.1.3)
iTunes WiFi Sync works fine for all the devices but the iPad 2. They all show up in the "Devices" area of iTunes (though sometimes I need to power them down and restart them to get them to show up properly) and they all sync automatically when plugged into a power source.
The iPad 2, however, behaves thusly:
    - Shows up under "Devices" in iTunes
    - Can be synced wirelessly IF initiated from the computer
    - Does NOT automatically sync when plugged in to a power source
    - CanNOT be synced wirelessly from the iPad itself, as under settings > general > itunes wifi sync, it shows the screen that says "to enable wifi syncing with itunes, connect to ituens on your computer using a cable..." as if I have this feature turned off in iTunes (which I do not). The "Sync Now" button is not displayed (not even a grayed out version).
    What I've tried:
    - Repeatedly powering down and restarting iTunes, the computer, the iPad, and the router in various orders and combinations
    - Repeatedly turning off and on the wifi sync feature via iTunes
    - Experimenting with the "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected" option as this actually fixed a similar issue on my iPad 1
    - Actually restoring the iPad to factory settings, then restoring from backup in case there was an issue with the iOS install
    Nothing has helped
    What I'm sure it's not:
    - A problem with the usual iTunes settings (check "enable WiFi sync", uncheck "prevent iPads from syncing", etc.). Since all other devices work and I actually can perform a wireless sync when initiated from iTunes, I don't see how the issue could live here at all.
    Any ideas? I'm pretty stumped!

Another oddity: When this iPad syncs, it does NOT create a backup as part of the process (whether wired or wireless). All my other devices do, as one would expect...
