ITunes will not add files to my Library

Greetings.
My iTunes will not add my recent downloads to my library.
I have tried adding the entire folder to the library and adding each song individually with no success.
Please help if you can.
Thanks for reading.

@CPL_STEELE: can you try to post these specifications in your own topic? (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=985161&tstart=0)
It's not very nice to take over someone else this topic, because the topic starter (Ganieda) could have another problem than you. It's also very confusing for everyone who is trying to help because there are now 2 problems in the same topic.

I am having this problem as well, both with audio files AND video files. Very frustrating, as I just got my first iPod and want to load it up so I can play! (Not new to iTunes, though...just didn't have everything loaded into it).
I see a lot of posts on this forum regarding this...can anyone help??

  • Newest version of iTunes will not add files to library.

When I go to add a file to my iTunes library (11.01.1), the file does not show up in my Library. However, it shows up in the "Recently Added" playlist. Bizarre. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes other peole have found 2 possibilities
If iTunes Match is used try Store > Update iTunes Match
if you do not use iTunes Match try logging out of itunes store and logging in again.

  • ITunes will not add my files

I'm having trouble adding files other than music to iTunes. If I add a file using file> add file to library, iTunes will not add the file, no matter what i do.

What kinds of files are you trying to add? iTunes will only add certain kinds of files. For example, I realized after about an hour of trying to drag and drop them into my library, that iTunes hates .wmv files, and I had to convert them.

  • Itunes will not add to library some song I bought.

Itunes will not add to library some song I bought.  The PC is a new computer.  How do I fix this?

Diesel vdub asked a question which you have answered yourself, although you don't appear to realise it.
He/she (sorry diesel, I don't know) asked: "Is the song actually on the computer?" and you stated that: "I transfered all songs onto the new computer" and "I looked in the folder but the songs just cant be found" so the copy hasn't worked.
You also mention manually copying, as opposed to a previous (presumably different) method.
How are you trying to copy these songs? Do the copy first and make sure that works. If your first method doesn't work, try a diifferent one - such as the manual copy you referred to (copying onto a memory stick, card, disc etc. etc.)
Until you sort out why your method of copying hasn't worked, everything else you "try" is a waste of time.

  • ITUNES will NOT add mpeg4 files to library!!!!

So I've tried many video converters on many settings...the files are fine. They play fine in quicktime.
I cannot get the newly made video files into Itunes. .mp4 and .mov files will not add to the library. When i try, absolutely nothing happens
Itunes WILL add .WMA Files to the library and actually play them. These files will not convert to ACC format so i can play them on my ipod however.
all files meet the video file requirements that apple claims will work. (320x240, under 768kbps, etc.)

YEs, files downloaded before Monday are fine, coul add them ti library.
I'Ve now changed the FTP client, from Transmit to Cyberduck, and can now add new files to the library. All files transfered via Transmit however remain unacceptable to iTunes. It is a pity, as Transmit is much faster and user-friendly.
HAve written to Transmit for their input.

  • Itunes cannot play certain songs and will not add them to the library

i have music files on both a hard drive connected to a router plus i have placed the specific files onto my mac to try to fix this issue to no avail.  while songbird, vox, and several other players will easily load correctly and do exactly what i want, itunes will not play these songs, will skip over them when i try to add to the library and will not play the file if i drag and drop, try to load it through the  "file, add to library" method.  the files are .ogg, .m4a, .mp3, .m4p, and they just will not show up. Any media players out there that will recognize an ipod so i can load these files up and get away from my mac for a while?

  • ITunes will not add songs to my libraby

Everything was fine last night, until my computer crashed. So i had to re-install Windows and everything else on my computer, but when i re-installed ITunes it said my IPOD's link was to another ITunes, and it asked me if i wanted to take all the songs off of it, and put the ones in my current library which was one, so i said no. But now when I put a song into my library it won't go onto my IPOD. It just sits in my Library and will not add to my IPOD
And my songs from my IPOD do not show up in my library, any help would be very appreciated

check to make sure iTunes is set to update automatically. you can do that in preferences.
as for getting the songs from your iPod to your library you will need a program called,"iPod agent".
this will allow you to take information from your iPod to your computer.
you can find it at download.com

  • Itunes will not recognise and load my library

I know just enough about computers to be dangerous.  After years of relatively hassle free itunes I now have a distinct problem.  my most recent hard drive failure resulted in the purchase of another new drive and the loadingf of all of my programs.  This has happened numerous times in the past without upset but this time after inmstalling the latest v11.1 itunes it will not recognise and load my library.  I run 64 bit Win 7 an d to date I have:
Uninstalled itunes and bonjour, deleted my original download, redownloaded and reinstalled.
Checked preferences / advanced / path to make sure it is looking in the right place - changed paths and back again.
Yes, it is 64 bit itunes.
I only use MS Windows Defender and it has never blocked me before.
In the past as soon as itunes has installed it has gobbled up my library but this time all I see is that stupid Mr Scruff et al.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Itunes will not add folder to library - no error messages

I have an archive of about 4 thousand albums and have decided to use Itunes to manage them. Windows Media Player is terrible for large archives - it's database is poorly designed. Anyway, when I tell Itunes to add a folder (containing 1000 artists each in its folder)to its library it stops at around seventy every time. Also within the 70 artists folders it ingested I have several albums that didn't ingest.
    what's going on?
on a related subject, Itunes does not seem to be smart enough to know that it already has a song in its library that you are trying to ingest.
    thanks for any help!

iTUnes for windows has a limit, not sure exactly what number that limit is yet but if you goto file>add folder to library it only catches so many til it reaches a limit then it stops.
Also iTUnes is designed to add whats called "Duplicates" because it takes for granted your the smarter one. If you had to songs that are somewhat the same, one is the original, one is a remix, the tags might not note this. You may have .... Britney SPears - hit me one more time then another one thats a remix BUT the tags say the same thing "Britney SPears - hit me one more time" So instead of stoping the second song from coming in, it lets it in so later you can edit the tags to denote its a remix.
Now since you have such a large swath of music all in there own lil folders, Id think the easy thing to do is let iTUnes auto search your system and add them all. Theres no feature like this built into iTUnes UI but theres a feature like this when you delete a hidden pref file. When this file is deleted and you open itunes again, you get a set up wizard, it in this wizard you get the option to have iTUnes search the whole system for music and media files.
Go here to B noirs post about deleting this pref file http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=531850&tstart=0

  • Itunes will not play music in old library after upgrade

please help! everything has been working great until I finally responded to the upgrade prompt itunes is always giving and upgraded to the 7.2 version. now, the itunes program will not allow me to play any of the songs that were in the library before the upgrade. they are all marked with an exclamation point in the first column, and when i click on them they say itunes cannot find the file...when i search for the files, I find a "previous itunes" folder but cannot retrieve the music. afraid to connect ipod to computer, for fear of wiping all of those songs off the ipod. have over 400 songs...would like to be able to retrieve them. already authorized computer. what should I do?

Dave, you are a god among mere mortal men!
I had used the check to only load certain tracks on my iPod mini that my kids use, while loading everything on my iPod 60GB.
I guess I should come up with a different method for that.
Thank you for clueing me in on how the checkmark works.
I'm a happy man once again.

  • ITunes will not delete file (after confirming & sending to recycle bin)

Files deleted within iTunes do not disappear from my hard drive.
I answer "Are you sure you want to remove the selected podcast from your iTunes library" and select the "Remove" button.
I then answer "Do you want to move the selected podcasts to the Recycle Bin, or keep them in the iTunes Music folder?" with "Move to Recycle Bin".
Music files (mp3) occasionally delete properly but video podcasts (Geek Brief to be specific) will not delete.
Music is stored in J:\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music which is slightly non-standard but seems to fit the rule of being "inside" the iTunes folder.
Any ideas? [I've seen similar but not quite the same posts where people are trying to delete files outside the iTunes folders......]

I too have this same problem with deleting video podcasts. The problem doesn't happen all the time, but probably a majority of the time. It is quite annoying as many of the video podcasts I subscribe to are in HD format so it is rather frustrating to have to manually delete them from the iTunes folder after deleting them thru iTunes, but since they take up gigs of space it is necessary to go in and clean them out every once in a while.

  • Itunes will only add 5 songs to library each time?

For some reason i cannot understand,
my itunes will only let me add a maximum of 5 songs to the library at any point..
anymore than that and it just goes back to the library and doesnt add anything at all..
which makes it hard when id like to add afew hundred files..
anyone have any clue how to change/fix this ?
    (itunes 7.3 btw)

Try using the add folder option instead of add file option. The add file option is limited as you found. Put files you want to add into a folder, run the add folder option selecting that folder, then delete files from folder if us have iTUnes set to copy files to library when adding.

  • Itunes will not recognize file properties

I cannot get Itunes to recognize file properties (comments/composer etc).
I will change a group of files that I have saved in a certain location, eg. songs from a roadtrip. I then change a certain property in those files ie composer, or comment, or something else that is included in Itunes' file information.
Then I open I tunes, and save that folder to itunes. Itunes does not recognize the properties. I cannot do a smart list, based upon the properties saved.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

iTunes 7 is having this problem with my iPod 30GB Video. It worked at first, but the system hung while attempting to update my iPod to 1.2. After rebooting it never recognized my iPod. I've since checked my iPod out on my laptop and my work computer and it works fine at both of those. I've finished the update to 1.2 on my laptop, but it still doesn't work on my main computer.
I've tried uninstalling iTunes, using the Windows Install Cleanup software, deleting files from temp directories, all of the stuff that the troubleshooting docs suggest on this site. None of it has gotten that computer to recognize my iPod again. I am not about to reinstall windows so what is my next option?

  • ITunes will not convert file to AAC, please help.

I have a rather large file, an audiobook to be precise. It is in .mp3 format and is approximately 8.5 hours long. I would like to convert it to AAC but iTunes does not seem to want to convert it. It seems to convert the file until the last few seconds and then stops, coming up with the error message:
'Error occurred while converting the file "File Name". An unknown error occurred (-50).'
As soon as I click the 'okay' button, it deletes the AAC file and I'm left with nothing. I've tried several times before and after restarting my computer and also I've converted smaller song files (3-4 minutes)successfully.
I'm using the latest iTunes and I am using Windows Vista. I have a strong suspicion that my problem is something to do with either the file length or perhaps the file has a fault in it. However, before I take action to resolve this I would like to know if there is any possibility it is an error with my iTunes.
    Thank you for helping. =)
