ITunes will not add my files

I'm having trouble adding files other than music to iTunes. If I add a file using file> add file to library, iTunes will not add the file, no matter what i do.

What kinds of files are you trying to add? iTunes will only add certain kinds of files. For example, I realized after about an hour of trying to drag and drop them into my library, that iTunes hates .wmv files, and I had to convert them.

    So I've tried many video converters on many settings...the files are fine. They play fine in quicktime.
    I cannot get the newly made video files into Itunes. .mp4 and .mov files will not add to the library. When i try, absolutely nothing happens
    Itunes WILL add .WMA Files to the library and actually play them. These files will not convert to ACC format so i can play them on my ipod however.
    all files meet the video file requirements that apple claims will work. (320x240, under 768kbps, etc.)

    YEs, files downloaded before Monday are fine, coul add them ti library.
    I'Ve now changed the FTP client, from Transmit to Cyberduck, and can now add new files to the library. All files transfered via Transmit however remain unacceptable to iTunes. It is a pity, as Transmit is much faster and user-friendly.
    HAve written to Transmit for their input.

  • Itunes will not add files to Library

    Greetings.
    My iTunes will not add my recent downloads to my library.
    I have tried adding the entire folder to the library and adding each song individually with no success.
    Please help if you can.
    Thanks for reading.

    I am having this problem as well, both with audio files AND video files. Very frustrating, as I just got my first iPod and want to load it up so I can play! (Not new to iTunes, though...just didn't have everything loaded into it).
    I see a lot of posts on this forum regarding this...can anyone help??

    @CPL_STEELE: can you try to post these specifications in your own topic? (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=985161&tstart=0)
    It's not very nice to take over someone else this topic, because the topic starter (Ganieda) could have another problem than you. It's also very confusing for everyone who is trying to help because there are now 2 problems in the same topic.
    Never the less, feel free to follow this topic if you think it could be interesting for you problem.

  • Itunes will not add to library some song I bought.

    Itunes will not add to library some song I bought.  The PC is a new computer.  How do I fix this?

    Diesel vdub asked a question which you have answered yourself, although you don't appear to realise it.
    He/she (sorry diesel, I don't know) asked: "Is the song actually on the computer?" and you stated that: "I transfered all songs onto the new computer" and "I looked in the folder but the songs just cant be found" so the copy hasn't worked.
    You also mention manually copying, as opposed to a previous (presumably different) method.
    How are you trying to copy these songs? Do the copy first and make sure that works. If your first method doesn't work, try a diifferent one - such as the manual copy you referred to (copying onto a memory stick, card, disc etc. etc.)
    Until you sort out why your method of copying hasn't worked, everything else you "try" is a waste of time.

  • ITunes will not import mp4-files.

    For some reason iTune will not import mp4-files into iTunes. The files only contain audio, no video. I know that mp4 is a format that combines the two.
    The files were generated in an earlier version of iTunes, like in 2006 or something. They were imported from CD's. I can locate them just fine on my computer and they play without problem in Windows Media Player.
    The problem is that when I try to import them the way that iTunes want me to import files its like they don't exist. ITunes locates the folders and sub-folders, but its like there's no content in the folders...
    I've tried changing my import settings but nothing seems to help...
    Have any of you encountered a similar problem, could you fix it and how?
    I've contacted Apple-support but they were unable (incompetent) to assist me...
    To me it seems like the only option left is to convert all the files, like 2 GB, from mp4 to mp3.
    Thankful for any help I could get solving this ***** of an issue...

    iTunes can handle just about any file format that works with QuickTime and will play any file purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store. If you've got video files that end with a .mov, .m4v, or .mp4 file extension, you can import them to iTunes with ease. However, the video especially the MP4 video must meet the following specifications: it must be encoded as 540 kbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with an approximately 128 kbit/s AAC audio track or encoded as 1.5 Mbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with a minimum 128 kbit/s AAC audio track. If not, you will fail to import MP4 to iTunes.
    Even if your MP4 files meet the above specifications and are added to iTunes successfully, it may still fail to sync to iOS devices. For iPhones, iPads, and video-capable iPods play videos in more specific video formats and codecs.

  • ITunes will not add songs to my libraby

    Everything was fine last night, until my computer crashed. So i had to re-install Windows and everything else on my computer, but when i re-installed ITunes it said my IPOD's link was to another ITunes, and it asked me if i wanted to take all the songs off of it, and put the ones in my current library which was one, so i said no. But now when I put a song into my library it won't go onto my IPOD. It just sits in my Library and will not add to my IPOD
    And my songs from my IPOD do not show up in my library, any help would be very appreciated

    check to make sure iTunes is set to update automatically. you can do that in preferences.
    as for getting the songs from your iPod to your library you will need a program called,"iPod agent".
    this will allow you to take information from your iPod to your computer.
    you can find it at download.com

  • ITunes will not import wav files

    iTunes will not allow importation of Apple Lossless or WAV files.  It will allow AIFF files to import but won't play them.
    Any ideas will be helpful.
    Thank you: Patrick

    Are you positive they didn't import, or is it just that there aren't where you expect to find them? The thing about wav files is they don't accept tags, so if you import them they will just get added under the filename.
    I would just copy across the whole media folder with libraries and all, then start iTunes with the option key held down and point it at the media folder. This will just use the library in its new location and you don't have to import, etc.

  • Newest version of iTunes will not add files to library.

    When I go to add a file to my iTunes library (11.01.1), the file does not show up in my Library. However, it shows up in the "Recently Added" playlist. Bizarre. Anyone else have this problem?

    Yes other peole have found 2 possibilities
    If iTunes Match is used try Store > Update iTunes Match
    if you do not use iTunes Match try logging out of itunes store and logging in again.

  • Itunes will not add songs

    I store all of my music on an external hard drive. I have been using it this way on an older Dell laptop with Windows XP for over a year now. I recently purchased a new Dell Inspirion with Windows Vista. I've been trying to add the same songs into Itunes on the new computer, but for some reason it is only loading 11GB of them when there should be well over 20GB of songs. I have my preferences pointing to the location of the music on the share drive, just as I have my old computer set up. I have tried clicking 'Add folder to library' both with the 'Copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library' checked, and with it not checked. I have also tried dragging and dropping this folder into itunes, and consolidating the library with the same result. I am able to play the songs that are not being added in itunes by clicking on the file on the hard drive. They open up and play in itunes with out any issues, and then appear there as if they were added successfully. I noticed these folders are listed as 'Read only,' but all of the files that did add successfully are listed as 'Read only' as well. I have also tried creating a smart playlist with the 50,000 most recently added songs, but that did not pull any of the missing songs.
    How can I get these songs display in itunes on the new computer?

    I have no idea if this will help, but I also have my library on an external drive. I thought this would allow my to carry the drive back & forth between work & home without authorizing a second computer, but it did not. When I took the drive to work, it reimported everything, then when I hooked it back up at home, it reimported again as if it were a new computer. Are the songs you are unable to display/import ones you have purchased from the iTunes store? My only suggestion is that you may need to authorize the computer.

  • Itunes will not add folder to library - no error messages

    I have an archive of about 4 thousand albums and have decided to use Itunes to manage them. Windows Media Player is terrible for large archives - it's database is poorly designed. Anyway, when I tell Itunes to add a folder (containing 1000 artists each in its folder)to its library it stops at around seventy every time. Also within the 70 artists folders it ingested I have several albums that didn't ingest.
    what's going on?
    on a related subject, Itunes does not seem to be smart enough to know that it already has a song in its library that you are trying to ingest.
    thanks for any help!

    iTUnes for windows has a limit, not sure exactly what number that limit is yet but if you goto file>add folder to library it only catches so many til it reaches a limit then it stops.
    Also iTUnes is designed to add whats called "Duplicates" because it takes for granted your the smarter one. If you had to songs that are somewhat the same, one is the original, one is a remix, the tags might not note this. You may have .... Britney SPears - hit me one more time then another one thats a remix BUT the tags say the same thing "Britney SPears - hit me one more time" So instead of stoping the second song from coming in, it lets it in so later you can edit the tags to denote its a remix.
    Now since you have such a large swath of music all in there own lil folders, Id think the easy thing to do is let iTUnes auto search your system and add them all. Theres no feature like this built into iTUnes UI but theres a feature like this when you delete a hidden pref file. When this file is deleted and you open itunes again, you get a set up wizard, it in this wizard you get the option to have iTUnes search the whole system for music and media files.
    Go here to B noirs post about deleting this pref file http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=531850&tstart=0

  • I have two users on my laptop. when i try to share my itune files from the main account, the second acount itunes will not find the files. the help suggestions must be for an older version of itunes. when i click find files-nothing happens.

    I cannot share itune files on the same laptop. I have two users on my laptop using windows 7.file sharing is turned on,when i click on the itune startup screen-find music files, nothing happens. the instructions in the help section must be from an earlier version of itunes because the edit folder is not laid out like it describes.

    Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
    Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
    Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

  • ITunes will not accept XML File

    Hello,
    I have been trying to upload my normal weekly xml file and iTunes won't accept it.  In the past, I copy and paste the previous entry in the xml file, make the upates (name of file, length, date, title, etc.) and then upload the updated file.  Been doing that for years.  Now, for the last six weeks, I have to recopy the previous week's entry, make the updates and save numerous times.  Sometimes iTunes will accept it, sometimes it doesn't.  Is there a limit of how many lines you can have in an xml file?  When I try to validate it, http://validator.w3.org, i get the following error:
    line 8185, column 2: XML parsing error: <unknown>:8185:2: mismatched tag [help]
    </channel>
    There is a <channel> on line 05, so this error doesn't make sense to me.
    Can someone please take a look at the file and help me figure out the problem?  I would appreciate it.
    Here is the link:  http://graceplace.org/media/audio/podcast.xml
    Thank you!

    The problem is just before your first 'item' tag:
    <itunes:category text="Religion &amp; Spirituality">
    <itunes:category text="Christianity">
    </itunes:category>
    <item>
    In the second line quoted above, you have not closed the tag, so that everything for the rest of the feed is seen as being within that tag - including the closing 'channel' tag, which is where the error has been flagged,
    Those lines should read
    <itunes:category text="Religion &amp; Spirituality">
    <itunes:category text="Christianity" />
    </itunes:category>
    <item>

  • ITunes will not import .WAV files encoded by iTunes...

    I just recently switched from a macbook pro running leopard to an imac with snow leopard. I needed to move my itunes to the new computer, but none of my wav files imported. On my macbook, I put the CD in and imported into iTunes directly using its own WAV encoder. All my mp3s imported fine. All the wav files play in quicktime and in preview.
    I know that itunes does not recognize some wav types, but I used itunes' own encoder, so it doesn't make sense that itunes wouldn't recognize them now...I don't want to have to reimport or re-encode these with another program =(
    Thanks!
