ITunes will not authorize "Protected AAC" files

After dealing with this for a week, I'm going to try and seek help here.
Second Tier Express Lane Support Agent has confirmed that my iTunes will not authorize any "Protected AAC" files in my library (1303 files total).  They have no idea why and have referred me back to iTunes Store support, which has not been able to help.  None of the affected files are available for redownload from the iTunes Store.  None of the items are available as "iTunes Plus" downloads (according to iTunes Store).
When I try to play one of the affected songs (or videos), I am asked to authorize the computer by entering Apple ID and password.  Once I enter that information, I receive a pop up window that indicates the computer is already authorized and the file will not play.  Same thing when attempting to sync with an iPod.
I have tried the following steps in order to remedy the problem:
Turn off User Account Control
Sign out then sign back in to iTunes store
Sign out, deauthorize computer, exit iTunes, delete the SC Info folder, restart computer, sign back in to the iTunes store, authorize computer
Uninstall iTunes, restart computer, install iTunes
Restore library from backup
Some additional information:
I am running the latest version of iTunes.
All songs were purchased using the same Apple ID (confirmed)
Incoming and Outgoing connections for iTunes are allowed in the firewall (and turning firewall off had no effect)
iTunes Store confirms only one computer is authorized
Previous version of iTunes was 10.0 (could that be part of the problem?)
Diagnostic information appears below.  Is anyone else having these problems?

UPDATE:
This issue was finally resolved by a second level iTunes agent.
Apparently, we somehow had two iTunes accounts with the SAME APPLE ID, so it was necessary to change one of the Apple ID's to a different email address so the original account could be restored.  The downside is we now have two accounts rather than one, but the good side is, at least we have access to all our content again.
I hope this posting might help someone else with a similar problem.

  • My shuffle will NOT play protected AAC files but will play ripped AAC files

When I download a playlist to my Ipod Shuffle all files appear to transfer OK, but only the regular AAC files (the ones from my CD's) will play (i.e. the protectet AAC files will NOT play). If I create a playlist with only protected AAC files purchased from Itunes, NOTHING will play.

Any Ideas!!! Has anyone seen this before?

    Hi,
Check the iPod hardware properties. Make sure that the iPod shuffle is connected to computer.
    1. Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
    2. Select Device manager.
    3. Then select Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    4. Right-click USB Mass Storage devices and click Properties.
    5. Click the Details tab.
Check for the string of numbers if it is 000a.2700.FFFFFFF then send the iPod shuffle for service. http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/

or take it back to the place from were you brought and ask for a replacement.

  • Itunes will not reconize music in file

itunes will not recognize music files in new computer.  I have done everything in the help video and in the instructions.  I have re-download itunes also, and restarted the computer many times.

Dave, you are a god among mere mortal men!
I had used the check to only load certain tracks on my iPod mini that my kids use, while loading everything on my iPod 60GB.
I guess I should come up with a different method for that.
Thank you for clueing me in on how the checkmark works.
I'm a happy man once again.

  • Itunes will not authorize apple tv

Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
    1)  We have 5 apple computers (4 computers and 1 mac mini server all running 10.6.8).  Additionally, we have 3 ipads, 3 iphones and 2 apple tvs (1st generation).  We consolidate all of our movie purchases on to the server.  All 5 computers are authorized for home sharing.  At various times, if we are traveling, we will download a movie on one of our laptops.  Later we move it to the server (to have everything in one place).
    2)  We have recently encountered an issue where movies purchased on itunes will not stream to the apple tvs.  Specifically, a message appears on the apple tv that a movie is not authorized.  The movies stream fine to the ipads (via our wireless network).  This seems to be a recent issue as before the recent upgrades to itunes, this was not a problem.
    Has anyone else encountered this?
If so, what did you do to get the movies to play on the apple tv?
    thx.

Thanks; however, this did not work.
More specifically, by removing the SC Info folder, the situation gets worse.  By doing so, itunes purchased movies (that I previously was able to view) can not be streamed to the apple tvs.

  • ITunes will not play all music files in music folder

My iTunes music folder is on an external HD. I have 4662 songs in the folder. iTunes plays approx. half of the files though the all of the songs show up in the iTunes player window. When I try to play a "lost" file, nothing happens, no "!" nor window telling me it can't find the file. When I go to the file and click on the song, iTunes adds another copy to the iTunes player window and plays the song. Recently, I clicked on all 2000 songs to get them to play and deleted the copies that didn't. The songs that won't play won't download to my pod. When I finished clicking on files and deleting copies, I updated my pod.
When I shut down the computer, it lost all the changes and it is back where I started! I connected my pod and it deleted all the songs that iTunes won't play. Any suggestions?

    WiseBird,
There might be several causes for that kind of erratic behaviour:
1st use Disk Utility to check your internal disk as well as the external one.
2nd Your Library database might be damaged
    - Quit iTunes
    - Goto ./Users/YourUserName/Music/iTunes
There will 2 files named something "Library" - move them to your desktop
    - Launch iTunes
As you're now starting from scratch, iTunes will offer to search for audio tracks - Don't let it.
    - Your iTunes should be "clean"
    - in iTunes Preferences - Advanced - General:
Point the Music Folder Location to the appropriate folder on your ext hd
Disable "Copy Files to iTunes music folder....."
    - Quit Preferences
    - From iTunes Menu - File choose "Add to library..." + select that folder on your ext hd that contains all your tracks.
    - All your tracks should be back by now in iTunes Library.
    - To get your playlists back: From iTunes Menu - File choose "Import" and open that .xml file that you moved to your desktop (might work but need not).

  • Itunes will not sync photos - itl file corrupt

    Hello All,
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP.  The XP install had my drive partitioned and my itunes data was on the E drive.  Now with Windows 7 I have one partition (C) and I was able to restore everything from Itunes to the new drive.  All is well accept my photos which will not sync.  I renamed the itl file and let it create a new one and my photos will sync.  If I go back to the original itl file the photos stay there as long as I don't uncheck the syncphotos box.  I need to go back to my old itl so that my music libraries are correct - including album art, etc.  I don't know why this happened or if there is a way to get the itl file back to where it should be.  If I did not have so much music I would just use the itl file and recreate my music library.  I did see an article talking about moving the xml file to the desktop and deleting the itl file then restoring from the xml.  I am just afraid that my xml file has been updated so much since I had this issue start that it will not be correct.  Does the xml file only keep info on the music or is it a repository for all itunes data?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Rob

    Me Too.
I have just updated the ipod touch software to 4.1. The update seems to have helped improve the very sluggish performance introduced with 4.0 but now photos just won't sync.
These are the same photos that are on the ipod Touch from software 4.0. The other sync items seems to have worked.
The sync gets stuck with either "Finishing sync" and barber-pole scroll or Syncing photos 4 of 4.
Unchecking the "Sync photos" Allows the sync to complete.
The "Remove photos/Keep photos" option appears when changing the "Sync photos" option. Keeping the photos leaves the previously installed images on the IPT. Using a PowerMac G5.

  • Previously purchased iTunes will not authorize or play

    Hi,
I am having an iTunes Authorization problem.
In the past I purchased 55 songs from iTunes using the account name I had at that time (also my email at that time). Later I signed up for a .Mac account and got a new email and I changed my iTunes account name to that new email. I purchased items under this new name. Everything was fine ( i.e. - I could play all of my music ) until I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes 7.0.1. Playing of all music and syncing to my iPod was working fine even after I installed iTunes 7.0.0.
Here is what is happening now:
Items purchased from iTunes under the current iTunes account name play fine on my Mac and transfer to my iPod.
Items purchased in from iTunes under my former iTunes account name will NOT play on my Mac and I get a message when I try to sync my iPod saying that I am not authorized to play 55 items and that they will NOT be transferred to my iPod. When I try to play one of these 55 songs on my Mac I get the pop-up asking me to authorize the old iTunes account name. When I type in the password iTunes says the account does not exist and authorization fails. So I CANNOT play any of these 55 songs that I purchased.
What can I do to fix this ? I have 55 songs that I paid for from the Apple iTunes store that are now rendered worthless to me. Please help !!

I've already tried the DVD drive with the same results. iTunes also will not burn from the library or an inserted disc. Other programs allow me to burn CD's, but not DVD's. (That's a whole other problem...) Since other programs will rip and burn, that would mean the problem is with iTunes, not the drives, no? I've also tried to uninstall and reinstall iTunes to no avail. Quite frustrating.

  • Itunes will not open new mp3 files in Recently Added playlist

I just downloaded the newest update from itunes.
Before this, whenever i downloaded an mp3 file (not from itunes) it would open in itunes in my Recently Added playlist.
Now, when i click open in Itunes, the itunes window opens up but the file isnt in the playlist or in my library at all. I have to find the file and add it to my library. Is there a way i can fix this?

    Do you mean using Safari?
    Safari prefs > General.
Tick Open safe files after downloading.

  • ITunes will not authorize certain apps

I got a new MacBook Pro and an iPod touch. I tried transferring all my apps from my old computer, but only some of them will load onto my iPod. I have authorized my new computer. It keeps telling me I'm not authorized.

Sounds similar to this other post - I notice your screen name contains AOL.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11552804#11552804
There have been quite a few reports of songs purchased with old AOL itunes userIDs not getting authorized properly.
My advice is to contact itunes store support. The link is in that other thread.

  • Itunes will not authorize apps from previous purchases onto iphone 4s ios 7

I keep getting the same warning regardless of how many times I enter/authorize the computer. I had my apps saved to an external hard-drive and copied them over to iTunes. It's not just this app, but all of them from previous purchases, free and paid. I tried to get them from my old 3g iphone, but iTunes would not reconize the apps. It shouldn't be this hard.

Have you restored as a NEW device (not from a backup) to test?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
You are actually asking two different questions - and two different approaches.
iTunes does have restriction policies concerning its folders -- for example, you cannot save data into certain areas within the iTunes setup, even though you essentially the rights to most of your computer.    You cannot write into protected areas - other areas you cannot even access files or data.
You can perhaps make a list of the songs you have, depending on how you go about it, and save that list into a file -- and then save that file into a location on your computer in which you have permission to save files.
You can save a list into Office Word format (.docx) and then save that file into a .pdf format.
You can then print that .pdf file.
If you can view the files on the screen -- and if an image will suffice as a "list", then you can use Snip to create an image of the file and then print that as your list.

  • ITunes will not synch all lossless files

I am using Easy CDDA Extractor to rerip my CD's into Apple Lossless format.  Unfortunately I am finding that many, (very many) will no longer synch to my iPod Classic 160.  I can't find any official limitation that would explain this.  Is there one?

Here is the Apple Support Article on iPod Compatible song format.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1334?viewlocale=en_US
As for Apple Lossless, you have to update your iPod Classic firmware to version 2 series, if your iPod classic model is after 2009. Your iPod Classic software vesion is shown in the iTunes summary page. You would be out of luck if, it is version 1.1.2, as the hardware is not compatible with iPod software version 2 series.

  • ITunes will not authorize

I have a macbook pro and i am having trouble authorizing itunes. A message keeps popping up stating "The required directory was not found or has a permissions error....."  i have the correct password, just need help figuring out how to make it work.

Thanks...Unfortunately I already tried that and it didn't help either. I should have put that in the original post.

  • ITunes will not Authorize songs

I have tried several times to get this to work and I have already tried deauthorizing as well
When I try to play songs that were originally purchased on my G5 in the iTunes library (I transferred everything onto my new Macbook Pro using the firewire method) I am asked to Authorize over and over again. Even though I login and get the message that 1 computer of my 5 available is Authorized.
What is going on with this?

Thanks...Unfortunately I already tried that and it didn't help either. I should have put that in the original post.

I fixed the problem myself.  By wiping all the iPad content and doing a fresh resync, this got all my music back including the songs which were not syncing before.
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all Content and Settings
Upon reconnecting to iTunes, I was prompted with the option to restore from the last backup.  I selected my latest iPad backup, and then let the restore complete.  Resync'd apps and music as well.  Bingo!
