Itunes will not identify my ipod

I just bought an ipod 8GB nano.
connected it successfully at least three times to my computer
Filled it with files.
tried to reconnect for changes and charging and everything froze (ipod and itunes).
Reset the ipod (pushing the menu and select buttons together) so it will work as a player and Itunes doesn't freeze anymore
but when I try to connect it to my computer, a message comes up
"an ipod has been detected but could not be identified please disconnect and try again"
the ipod charged up ok but will not identify; tried other usb ports tried restarting. tried reloading drivers
I've tried going through the apple support pages and the only thing that has helped is the reset buttons; (at least I got the player back) but I can't try some of the help options because they send me to the ipod under itunes and it isn't there
I have windows vista home premium with service pack 2 and itunes 9.01
I did not have the ipod set up to work as a disk when i last disconnected but it worked fine in itunes
any help you could provide would be most ... helpful.

uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes,
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

I recently connected my new ipad to my itunes, but now itunes will not recognise my ipod classic, and 50gig of music has gone. ipad connects ok but no longer ipod which has been there for two years! help!!!

What happens when the iPod is plugged in?  anything?  any errors?
Why is 50GB of music gone?  All music should exist on the computer.  Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.

  • HT1459 Serial number is faded and too small to read. Itunes will not recognize my IPod Classic. How can I delete the current iPod software and reinstall it to see if this would solve the problem?

I recently upgraded my Itunes softeware, now itunes will not recognize my IPod Classic. If I delete the current IPod software and reinstall it, would this solve the problem, and if so, I'll need step by step instruction.

I'm using a Mac desktop and it/my itunes will not recognize my ipod touch. I have resent my ipod and have also done all the suggested things on the apple website and still it is not being recognized, I do not know what else I can do. My macbook will recognize my ipod touch but I don't want to sync it to that itunes since it is already out of date, I want to sync it to my desktop mac where I already have the latest version of itunes, and all the music I want to sync onto my ipod touch. What can I do?

  • My itunes will not recognize my ipod shuffle after installing Mcafee

My itunes will not recognize my Ipod shuffle, I have tried almost everything Itunes has suggested including uninstalling and installing Itunes.  I am at a loss, the computer recognizes the ipod and assigns a drive to it.  When I click on the drive there are flies in it.  I have disabled the firewall, checked all firewall settings as suggested in previous forums.  I have tried deleting the temp files but that keeps getting hung up on a file that says it is in use.  I can stll use my ipod because it charges but I can not update songs etc.
I contacted Mcafee but all they did was turn the firewall off (I could have done that myself).
If there is any help I would appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Nadine

The first thing I did in the morning was contact McAfee they turned the firewall off it didnt work so they said it wasnt their problem.  I attempted several other things using ITunes help but none of the solutions worked.  I would say it is something in my computer but the drive shows up in my files so the computer is reading the USB port.  I tried changing the drive but that didnt help.
I cannot find a universal "OFF switch" in McAfee But I have turned the firewall off several times after many different attempts.
I do not find an area where I can tell Itunes where the Ipod is in Windows Explorer, that would be helpful at least it could try to locate it then. You would think this feature would be available since Itunes would like us to purchase music through them to load on our equipment.  Since my computer does not recognize my Ipod there is no need for me to purchase music.
Do I sound frusturated - I AM But I appreciate your trying to help.

  • ITunes will not recognize my Ipod touch.

iTunes will not recognize my Ipod touch.  It attempts to perform a recovery, but must restore first.  but the restore fails, gives my 1604 code.  I have switched cords, USB ports all with no success.  I have a second touch (an older generation), a 160 GB Ipod & a shuffle that all work fine.  Not sure where to go.  One place said that I should reinstall iTunes, but wasn't sure if I would lost my library and apps.  Pleas advise.  Thanks.

Try to reinstall iTunes as explained in this article:

Backup your iTunes before, just in case. Apps and other bought media from iTunes can be downloaded again for free:

Itunes will not recognize my ipod. How do I fix this?

Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.

Well, there is always the possibility that it's been jailbroke, in which case, you're out of luck.  However...

  • Iphone 4 will not turn on with or without charger. Lock/sleep button is broke. Itunes will not identify phone.

My Iphone 4 shut off randomly last night while charging. It will not turn on with or without charger (I have tried multiple working outlets and usb ports. Didn't work)
The lock/sleep button is broke (I tried pushing it down on multiple surfaces as hard as I could while holding the home button. Didn't work.)
My Itunes will not identify the phone is hooked up to the computer (my itunes is completely up to date. I tried all the methods of pressing down the home button and pluuging in the usb chord while Itunes is running.Tested my roomates Iphone 4 with my chord and it charged and Itunes identified it. Tried his chord as well. Didn't work.)
All the advise I can find in these communities involves using the phone. The screen is black completely black no matter what I do. It makes no noise either (called it several times) I have read about 15 different posts on here and tried every method I found more than once. Do I just need to take it in?

Apple won't repair it, they just offer you an out of warranty replacement, cost is US $149. Me? I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a discontinued model. I'd sell it for parts on eBay or go to a third-party repair shop. Be aware, if you go the third-party repair shop route, you forfeit all support from Apple, including the right to an out of warranty replacement.
