ITunes will not Launch - System error

After updating my OS X to 10.4.3 and updating iTunes to 6.0.1 I found that I was unable to launch iTunes. The error message stated "unable to read file or write to disk".
This seemed to sound like the file or app was locked down from what I understand from my other mac friends.
I am desperately missing my iTunes music and the ability to view Quicktime as well. Not sure if they are inter-linked.
Somebody please help?
17" Metallic G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Put me on the list of people for whom iTunes won't launch anymore.
I got the notification that iTunes had a new upgrade last night. So I let it. After that, everthing seemed to go normally except that after I click to accept the licence agreement, an error comes up
"The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred. 0x666D743F"
That's it. I've tried removing iTunes and reinstalling about 4 times. I've also removed both iTunes and Quicktime, then reinstalling. I don't use Norton firewall. I do use Norton Antivirus. NAV is up to date.
I've used the registry editor to check for anything that may be left behind. It appears clean after an uninstall.
An interesting thing is that the desktop icon after a reinstall is a generic looking one with 6 little icons inside a slightly larger rectangle. When I right click to change to the nicer iTunes icon I notice that a lot of information to "start the program in" is missing. I've tried putting the path to iTunes in there, but that doesn't help either.
I sure hope some help or a fix/workaround or whatever is forthcoming. My iPod nano is going to be useless soon without a functioning iTunes.

    Yeah

OK, so i cannot enter into iTunes safe mode, whilst monitoring proccesses in the task manager I noticed that itunes will only stay open if i keep my fingers on shift and control-i dont know if that is worth mentioning- the proccess promptly ends after the release of the said keys, (I tried both the shift control keys on either side of the keyboard-same result) so i am stuck there.
    P.S.
This version of iTunes had previously worked before, I uninstalled everything apple related after noticing how many processes (-id est-) /applications, were using up my memory.
afterwards I had need for iTunes, (i needed to wipe my iDevice) I reinstalled and this problem has arisen.

  • ITunes will not launch--no error message

I just got a new iPod for Christmas (5th Gen 30 GB iPod with Video--Black), and I've been trying to set it up. I have yet to even plug my iPod into the computer because there is a problem with iTunes. Every time I click on iTunes or attempt to open anything with iTunes, nothing happens. For a few seconds the cursor will have an hourglass as if something was happening but then it goes away and nothing happens. I've tried many methods of fixing this problem but nothing is working, and without an error message, identifying the problem has been made difficult. I've reinstalled iTunes a few times and there really are no other problems with anything else on my computer. Can anyone help me?
Edit: I do not have Norton on my computer. I do have McAfee, Windows Defender, Lavasoft Ad-aware, and Spybot--Search & Destroy
Also, Quicktime is working fine, and no, there is NOT a flash of the license agreement
    Thanks

That was my first attempt at fixing the problem and it didn't work. I guess I'll try it again.
    Edit: Nope, nothing

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

After loading Maverick iTunes will not launch.  I get an error code: -45054.  I am the administrator and have no groups or guests.  Sharing options don't fix this.  Also Fetch will not launch, I get error code: SSL error 9807.  These worked perfectly before installing Maverick.  Also everything that loads, all programs, take twice as long to load.  I have MacKeeper and have cleaned and discarded all the garbage.

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

  • Itunes will not launch on Windows Vista no error code

Itunes will not launch on my computer. I have windows vista. I have uninstalled and downloaded itunes repeatedly. I have also tried all of the troubleshooting tips available on the apple support site. But none of them worked. Quicktimes works fine. It is just itunes. I even opened up task manager to check the processes and itunes appears for about a second in the processes tab then just disappears. I have no idea what to do i have an iphone 3gs and havent updated it for a few months now and cannot sync my iphone without itunes. I Have kaspersky internet protection but i doubt thats the problem because itunes was working fine until i updated it.PLEASE HELPPPPPP!

Presumably the configuration fails to complete, so every time you start iTunes it has another go.
As iTunes works normally when you plug in your iPod, you should be able to work round this by creating a new iTunes short cut.
Go to Program Files\iTunes and right click on iTunes.exe. Select: Send to>>Desktop(create shortcut). If you are lucky you will be able to open iTunes using this short cut.
However this work around does not fix the underlying problem that WIndows fails to complete configuring iTunes.

If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
Not sure if the following site/link will tell the method...

  • ITunes will not Launch 10.6 Snow Leopard

I just upgraded to 10.6 last night and now my iTunes will not launch. I removed all my extra plugins and am trying to start fresh. Here's the error message that pops up in the Console:
    8/29/09 10:26:15 AM [0x0-0xbddbdd].com.apple.iTunes[9902] [Deprecated] CocoaJava: com.apple.cocoa.foundation.NSRuntime
8/29/09 10:26:15 AM [0x0-0xbddbdd].com.apple.iTunes[9902] -[NSJavaVirtualMachine initWithClassPath:] FATAL: cannot initialize ObjCJava. Exit
    8/29/09 10:26:15 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[237] ([0x0-0xbddbdd].com.apple.iTunes[9902]) Exited with exit code: 255
    Any ideas?

OK, this solution worked for me:
Quit all programs, force-quit iTunes if it is locked up.
    Disconnect any iPhone or iPods
Go to: Macintosh HD/users/"your user name"/library/preferences, and drag to trash the preference panels: with itunes in the name: including>com.apple.iTunes.plist, com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
Download iTunes 8.2.1 from theApple website,
    Run the iTunes 8.2.1 installer
It will have you set up iTunes as if for the first time.
Launch iTunes after it is set up, it will take a bit as it creates new prefence files.
Quit iTunes>restart the mac>Launch iTunes and after it loads plug in your iPod or iPhone.

itunes will not launch in XP because: "itunes library.itl.cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes"
Is this an apple problem or a computer problem? If I reinstall itunes will my library still be there?

Uninstall and reinstall the Apple software.  See the following.  That link also has a link for Win7 and Vista.

  • ITunes will not launch after upgrade--click, bounce bounce, nada

iTunes will not launch after upgrade--rebooted nothing--2 bounce icon
then shut down all and unplugged, restarted--no change, iTunes still will not launch after upgrade
    iTunes current version
    on imac w/10.6.8

    I have the same issue.
Allready uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, but the same problem occurs.
Icon keeps bouncing, and all that's visible is the first menu-item in the top menu bar, named iTunes. Nothing is clickable though.
The iPhone Configuration Utility doesn't seem to work either, it crashes on uploading an app to my iPhone. I guess it's using some of iTunes' libs or something.
Does anyone know how to get iTunes working again? I'm getting pretty desperate over here...
    Thanks!

Since upgrading to version 11 ITunes will not launch I have removed and reloaded again but it still will not launch.

  • Yosemite working but iTunes will not launch

Finally got Yosemite running OK on my MBP even though I could not redownload it from the App Store.  iTunes has not been working through this whole ordeal so that is not surprising (I thought).  But I just did a complete download of the Yosemite Installer so they must be separate.  iTunes will not launch.  The icon is in the Dock and it will bounce three times when I click it but it won't launch/open.   Can this be fixed by launching the Yosemite Install app now in my Application folder?  I haven't found a way to download/reinstall iTunes separately.  I had/have iTunes 12.0.1.

I have had this problem, I even went into package contents to Macos folder, ane when I launched from there, it seems that Itunes is not conecting to a server, and hence times out with the spinning wheel of death so no matter how many tiles i uninstall and re install, it keeps coming back to this?

  • SW upgrade wiped out my iTunes library and also now iTunes will not launch

I just completed the recommended Sw upgrade for iTunes and now iTunes will not launch and my iTunes library is TOTALLY EMPTY.
Clearly, I am NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. I have lost a substantial investment of $$ and time in losing my iTunes library - so Apple should be paying me for my loss.
I need help, can you, will you help me?  I want my iTunes library back and I'd like to reinstall the previous version of iTunes, because it worked fine.
    Barbara Bowen
    Apple, 1983-1993

You don't say which versions so we don't know to which version you wish to revert.  Reverting won't get back your library anyway, if it is truly gone.
Have you checked if your library is truly gone?  Have you looked in the iTunes folder and the media folder inside of it?  The library has two main components, all the media files for the individual tracks and the iTunes Library.itl file which give them the structure you see in iTunes.  Sometimes iTunes just loses track of the library file which can be re-linked, and what's really important anyway are the media files.
If the library is truly gone you can restore it from the backups you make of your computer.  Backups are a responsibility of any computer owner ever since computers were invented.  If you don't have backups then it may be possible to redownload items purchased from the iTunes Store.
I know I have glossed over some of this but it's not worth going into details on how to do all the different things until we know precisely what it is that needs doing.
